Setting a transparent background

Is it possible to set a transparent background in Aperture 3? i.e. erase the background of a photo to plane white then setting the transparency for plane white. Attempting to make a transparent background to add the image to a photo.

Welcome to the list. Make sure you read the [Help & Terms of Use|http://discussions.apple.com/help.jspa] section when you get a chance.
No its not possible. You'll need something like Gimp or PS for that.

  • How to set up transparent background in kdestopk?

    My goal is to put four different background image (wallpapers) on each face of my Compiz-Fusion cube.
    However, the Compiz wiki says that if kdesktop draws background already, it will cover Compiz's backgrounds.
    Then, I noticed that kdemod has this http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.ph … tent=59864
    and it is supposed to give me transparent background.
    I added BackgroundOpacity=0 in ~/.kde/share/config/kdesktoprc
    But nothing changed.
    Can some one give a little help?
    Thanks

    Like a picture behind the apps on the home screen? I think that is the wallpaper. That isn't supported on the 3rd gen. iPod touch. Only the 4th. Sorry.

  • How do you set a transparent background when adding an image?

    I've added a block arrow image to a slide in Captivate 4. I enabled Transparent background and selected white as the color within the Image properties. This used to work when I added the same image in Captivate 3. However, in Captivate 4, when I publish, the image displays with a white background. Though it is transparent in priview mode and on the slide iteself when i have the project open. Any ideas on what else I could do to make the image background transparent?

    Hi there
    Transparent background should still work in Captivate 4 just as it did in Captivate 3.
    There are a couple of reasons it may not do what you are expecting.
    The background isn't truly the color it appears to be. For example, it may APPEAR to be solid white (or another color) but in reality it's hundreds of varying shades of the color. This happens a lot with JPEG images.
    If the image is PNG format, I've seen Captivate become confused. Especially if the PNG already has a transparent background. So you may need to edit the image and save in a different format.

  • How do I set a transparent background to a div in Internet Explorer 8?

    Hello,
    I'm using a jQuery slider for a simple text slideshow on a homepage. The slideshow and each slide (div) have no background. When the site is viewed in Internet Explorer 8, each slide has a white background. I'm using the following IE fallbacks which according to many sources should work...
    #slideText div {
              background: rgb(0, 0, 0) transparent; /* default fallback */
              background: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2); /* nice browsers */
              filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr=#33000000, endColorstr=#33000000); /* IE 6/7 */
              -ms-filter: "progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.gradient(startColorstr=#33000000, endColorstr=#33000000)"; /* IE8 */
    The div's background is affected with a 20% black background but it's still over a white background. How can I get rid of this white background?
    Eventually I would like this to have no background but I'm using this 20% transparency for testing. You can view the live site here: http://www.pmi.tv.
    Thank you much in advance!

    Older IE browsers do not support CSS level 3 rgba colors with opacity.
    MS Filters cause other undesired side effects.  I don't use them.
    If you must support IE8, use a semi-transparent PNG image for your background.

  • Paint - set transparent background?

    Can anyone tell me how to set an image (.gif) transparent background in Windows 8 Paint (ver. 6.2)?  Been scratching head for a couple of hours now but can't for the life of me see how to set a transparent colour.  I'm sure that the XP version
    of pint allowed this.
    Thanks,

    There is a way! it is now hidden in a ribbon command.
    Under the Image section of the ribbon, click the "Select" drop-down menu. The bottom command is called "Transparent Selection" and it can be toggled on or off.
    Just like the older version of of paint, the Color #2 is the transparent color (so you could remove a white or black background, just make Color #2 white or black, respectively)
    FYI, the other command I had a hard time finding was to make the canvas bigger/smaller (but not shrink/stretch the image). It used to be called "Image attributes" but now you go File>Properties, and you can adjust the size there.
    Would you PLEASE walk me through it ?  I have this jpeg, I have always see the Transparent deal under "Select", but I do NOT know HOW to "select" the background to make it transparent?
    Please help and Thanks.

    Hi,
    We almost had the same requirement, but we just needed to color a specific column.
    Here goes the solution to that, you might do the same for your row highlighting
    Changes are required in jsff and one method to be added in backing bean
    1. JSFF :
    <af:column headerText="Amount"
                     id="c4" width="100"
                     inlineStyle="#{backingBeanScope.BackingBean.cellColor}">2. Backing Bean
    //searchResultTableVO is Table's VO
    public String getCellColor() {
          FacesContext ctx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
          ExpressionFactory ef = ctx.getApplication().getExpressionFactory();
          ValueExpression ve = ef.createValueExpression(ctx.getELContext(), "#{row}", FacesCtrlHierNodeBinding.class);
          FacesCtrlHierNodeBinding node = (FacesCtrlHierNodeBinding)ve.getValue(ctx.getELContext());
          Row row = node.getRow();
        if(row.equals(searchResultTableVO.getCurrentRow())){
    //You can add your inline style for font-style too
          return "background-color:Red;";
             return null;
      }Hope this is helpful :)

  • How can i make a Transparent background in flash

    I'm developing a web page for a small business I'm new to
    flash, I have been trying to learn flash for a vary long time and
    only recently had the time and resources to do it. I have
    secsessfuly made the menu and actions to work how i wanted them to
    so when you hover over the butten a drop down menu apears however
    my problem is when i export this to the web page a white background
    is present. i need it to be transparent so you can see the web page
    under the flash menu. how can i obtain this effect?

    In your publish settings, under the HTML tab is a dropdown
    under "Window Mode". Select Transparent Windowless and hit publish.
    It will generate all the needed code to do what you ask, copy that
    and insert it into your desired page.
    Basically learn from the flash generated example, its
    properties in the embed code that have it set to "transparent".
    Take a look at the source code on to see a live example.

  • Want to create an oval vignette in photoshop elements 10 with transparent background for printing w

    I am fairly new to PSE and I want to create an oval vignette in Photoshop Elements 10 with transparent background for printing on white paper using MS Publisher. Using the white background on inverse selection makes a slight line impression and either it should have a defined "frame" or nothing.
    Appreciate any guidance.

    Try with the Elliptical marquee tool:
    On the tool's option bar set feather 25-40 px (experiment)
    Drag out the Ellipse to embrace the object
    Go to Layer>new>layer via copy, or CTRL+J
    Your selection should fade out as a vignette and be surrounded by transparency
    Save this layer via File>save for web, select PNG-24, and tick "Transparency"

  • How to save transparent background images to have transparent background thumbnails with Photoshop 2014?

    In old versions of Photoshop there was a feature that made thumbnail images have a transparent background.  I'm a CC member using Photoshop 2014 on a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.9.4 and every thumbnail of a transparent background image I've created in Photoshop 2014 appears on my desktop with a solid white box background that has a thin black outlined box inside of it.  How do I save the transparent background images I've created in Photoshop 2014 so they will appear on my desktop as thumbnails with a transparent background?   I'd like to continue to be able to replace the default background-less folder icon that that appears on files with transparent background thumbnails to customize my files as I use to do with older versions of Photoshop.

    If your layered document has a Photoshop background layer it visibility need to be set off when saving a PNG or Gif file for Photoshop background layers do not support transparency.
    Thumbnail may be a bit more complicated than you think. I do not use Lightroom, and only occasionally use the bridge.  I believe Lightroom and Bridge  keep thumbnails they develop for image files  in their library databases and caches.  Other programs do not have acces to  these.  RAW Files and Image files have Jpeg previews stored in then.  I believe most application use these previews jpeg to create thumbnails.  Jpeg format does not support transparency.
    Icon on the desktop are not always thumbnails some are embedded icons in application modules other are icon in dll these may well have transparency. However image file on the desktop have generated thumbnails.  However you can create a shortcut for an image png file and create a icon with a transparent background for the png file and change the shortcut's icon for the png file to the transparent ico file you created for it.
    Also many Photoshop release ago an Adobe module created Thumbnails for image files in Windows File explorer and most likely system file dialog. Adobe stopped supporting that stating Microsoft changes how windows works.
    Today I use FastPictureViewer Codec Package to generate image thumbnails for image files including RAW and PSD files in File Explorer and system file dialogs.
    I don't use a Mac don't know what available for your Mac.

  • Combining 100 pngs with transparent background, vertically into one image PSE9

    As the question suggests,
    In PSE9 is it possible to combine 100+ PNG files (with identical dimensions & transparent background) into a single PNG file where the images are stacked vertically? and without trimming/cropping the transparent part of the image! I want to retain the exact original image dimensions so that they all stack neatly and precisely.
    So far what I've tried is opening up the 100 PNG files in PSE9, create a new document with transparent background using the same width as the individual files and the height set to the individual file height multiplied by 100. (i.e. original image is 36 x 120 so the new file will be 36 x 12000) Then I get stuck! Whenever I drag a single file into the newly created document, it seems to be cropped to the image edges and no longer retains it's original height and width. Not to mention that hand dragging 100 files seems like a long-winded way of doing things... My automate button seems to be greyed out (so no contact sheet?) and I can't find any other automated process.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks
    N.
    PSE 9 on Win 7

    Please compare the resoultion of the two documents too. And a better way of arranging the layers would be to use distribute option in the move tool. You can find more about the move tool at http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/using/moving-copying-selections.html#main-pars_h eading_0
    Thus your workflow would be:
    Create a new document with the required dimension.
    Use File>Place to place all your png files on the created document as layers
    Use distribute option in move tool
    A still better workflow would be to use put all the files in a folder and write an ExtendScript to read the files and place them as layers on the document of said dimension

  • How to Export with Transparent Background

    I have created a logo in Freehand 10, and I need to export it
    as an EPS with a transparent background to place in an InDesign
    document. How do I export the file with a transparent background?
    Thanks!
    -Elisha

    > Please excuse my lack of experience, but can you please
    explain what you mean
    > by "without screen image"?
    In general contents of eps files (encapsulated postscript)
    cannot be viewed with layout programs and alike. Therefore a screen
    image must be included for placing. When the document is printed to
    a postscript printer or exported as pdf the screen image is omitted
    and the postscript code is used. In this case it is not 'What you
    see is what you get' but "What you get is what you can't see'.
    In Windows the screen image has always been a opaque bitmap
    image but in mac screen image can be 'clipped'. In both platforms,
    however, the postscript output is the same i.e. without background.
    > I did try exporting as Illustrator 7, but it only came
    in as a grey box in
    > InDesign. I'm waiting on approval to purchase the
    upgrade to Illustrator CS3.
    I'm not sure if InDesign CS2 can show contents of eps files,
    both Mac and Windows. I just tried exporting eps and ai from
    FreeHand and they worked well in Windows InDesign CS3.
    Usually eps file without screen image appear as white box and
    all the images as grey boxes if Disply Performance is set to Fast
    Disply in InDesign. So check InDesign display settings.
    Also try to export eps with a screen image.
    If the logo is simple with just outline objects it can be
    copypasted into InDesign as well. In FreeHand 'copy special' and
    select the clipboard format.

    I've never gotten it to work either. I usually set the
    background to something not used in the animation, like bright

    don't know if this is possible.

  • Image with transparent background changes surrounding fill color when PMS...

    Hello.
    I have a .PSD image I'm using in InDesign CS3. It's a greyscale image with a transparent background. When I bring it into InDesign and set the background color of the image box to a Pantone and then print it, the PMS color within the area of the .PSD image size changes color compared to the rest of the page. But, when the same document is printed, but with "All Spot to Process" via the Ink Manager, the page prints fine. I get the same results on a number of different Canon and Xerox proofing printers. I have uploaded a PDF to my web server showing an example of the results I'm getting the PDF can be found here:
    http://theboyk.net/temp/PMSvsCMYK.pdf
    The first page is the document printed normally. You can see the color change in the green (Pantone Green). The second page is the same document printed with "All Spot to Process" via Ink Manager.
    Does anyone know why this happens when I leave it as printing a spot color?
    Any advice would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Kristin.

    I totally forgot to put that in my post.  Yes, I am putting logos with transparent backgrounds in front of colored rectangles.  That's how I noticed that this one logo is showing up with a white background.  The weird thing is that the other two logos are fine.  I did find a different version of this logo and this one works fine.  The one that works fine is a JPG and the one that shows up with a white background is a JPG.

  • Weird bug?  Transparent background is black instead of checkerboard in RGB mode

    If I try to make a new RGB document with the Background Contents set to Transparent the canvas is filled with black instead of the checkboard pattern.  However over in the Layers window the little icon for the layer shows it as transparent with the checkerboard. In the Channels window it also appears transparent, and if I click on one of the channels which selects just one of them the canvas changes from black to the checkboard.  If I click on the RGB channel at the top the canvas changes to black again.
    Why is this happening and how do I fix it?
    If I open a new document in CMYK I get the checkerboard like I'm supposed to.
    I bought a new PC a few days ago and this is a fresh install of Adobe CS4 on Windows 7.  Photoshop is updated to version 11.0.2.
    I could swear this wasn't happening a couple of days ago when I first installed it, and it never happened on my old XP computer.
    edit to add: all files show a black background in RGB mode instead of the checkerboard pattern, not just when creating a new document.

    What are the Photoshop > Preferences > Transparency & Gamut > Transparency Settings?
    Boilerplate-text:
    Does turning off OpenGL in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?
    Other than that are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, font validation, etc.)?
