Setting accounts mail is sent from
Hi
I've got Mail 2.1 and I can select which account mail is sent from. However, my friend has version 1.3.1 and although she's set up aliases on dot mac on the web, we can't see how to do it on her version. Does she need a later version - I think she is running Panther. Many thanks...
iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.3.6)
Hello,
The ability to send directly with .mac alias addresses was only added to 10.4 and Mail 2.0.
If you have other accounts, provided for example by your ISP, you can add the .mac alias addresses to those addresses listed in the email address preference entry box of the other accounts, and using commas to separate each address.
If, however, there is a desire for privacy, this method will show the current Full Name on the POP account. Another approach is to set up a new POP account for each .mac alias address, with the Username of the alias as Username, and the key thing is to BOTH deselect to include when automatically checking for new mail AND take the account Offline. Even Offline, it will still send. Of course you enter the same SMTP as Outgoing Server as you use with POP accounts on this mac, although it might be possible to use the smtp.mac.com now that it allowed, but not implemented in Panther -- I don't have Panther set up to test with, currently.
Since never checked, under any circumstance, it never polls the server and never fails.
Let me know if this works, or is not clear.

How do I set which account email is sent from?
I have 2 email accounts and having trouble figuring out how to set the default for which account mail is sent from.
Christopher Graham wrote:
Can he not just go into each account and set the default for each account the same "sent from" address?
No you can't. If you're in one account, and you create a new message, it defaults to the account you're in. If you create an email outside of the mail app, you can set a default account to send from. Andygoodyear has the correct instructions for that. -
Mails are sent from wron account
Hi,
My iPad is set up with two email accounts (both from Google; one Gmail and one Google Apps). When I send mail, the from address is always the same no matter which account I set as default. The compose screen shows the correct account but the mail is still sent from a specific account.
This is not confined to Mail; it also happens when sharing stuff from Safari, Photos (which is Mail at the end of the day).
I don't have this problem on my iPhone which uses the same accounts and Apple ID.
For what it's worth: The iPad is only a few weeks old and was restored from an iCloud backup.Well, it doesn't use the standard account. It uses the same account no matter what I set as standard account. Also, when sending mail, the from address is set to the address I wish to use, but it still ends up as sent from the other account.
I just tested sending from Mail again a few times. Mails are sent from the wrong account no matter what I do. Even if I open the mailbox of the account I want to use, mails are still sent from the other account.
I was wondering if it could have anything to do with SMTP and both accounts being hosted by Google. I checked the SMTP settings for both accounts and they are set up to use distinctive SMTP settings. No logins are shared or anything. -
MS exchange account on my iPhone and iPad doesn't capture sent mail when sent from iPhone or iPad! Everyting else seems to work fine. Can someone pleasse help?
iPhone and iPad use a different way of accessing the server.
I don't know the exact details, but we are using Zarafa instead of Exchange and have the same problem:
iPhone and the likes can connect to Zarafas z-push interface, which is some identical interface to the native Exchange interface, while the desktop e-mail application tries to interface with the web front end (via http) of the server.
These are completely different setups and it depends on the actual installation of the server to get this going.
So, you will most likely need different access parameters for the desktop - and the web mail feature has to be enabled on the Exchange server.
In my opinion using the web mail interface is just silly. On the other hand, the native protocol has less features comparedto the web front end, so you are somehow stuck with sins of the past.
Good luck! -
Why can't I see mail I sent from my iPhone on any other device?
I've had a mac.com email address for many years now, on my iPhone and my Mac (running Lion now).
Here's the problem -- when I check INBOXES from device to device the contents are always the same (i.e. synced), but this is not so with SENT mail. It appears only on the device from which I sent it. This is very annoying since I run my business from this account and need access to my communications wherever I am.
Gmail of course provides full sync of sent messages by default, and this works perfectly from my iPhone, desktop, etc. The same is true for other cloud-based email services like Hotmail etc. It seems strange to me that Apple mail would be the one service not to provide sync of sent mail.
Why aren't the SENT messages synced? Can anybody help me configure it?
(Thanks in advance for your help.)I'm assuming the account is setup as an iCloud email address under the iCloud settings?
On your phone: Try looking in settings >> iCloud >> account >> mail >> advanced >> sent mailbox. Is there a check in the on my iPhone section or the server section? You want the server.
I'm not on my mac at the moment, so I can't say off the top of my head where to look on your Mac. But maybe mail menu >> preferences >> accounts >> mailbox behaviors? -

I have two email accounts set up on my iPad -- one I use & one I monitor for a disabled person. On several occasions, mail I have composed and sent from my email account was sent showing the other account as the sender. This has happened both from within Mail and when emailing from other apps, such as Safari, Photos, etc. Any idea what is going on and how to prevent this from happening?
Are you confirming your POP account is selected as the sending email account before the message is sent?
And regardless if the email is a new email or is replying to or forwarding an email received by the POP account and cofirming the POP acconut is selected as the sending email account, the message is sent by the Gmail account?
All message sent by the POP account are sent by the Gmail account?
If so, delete the Gmail account from your iPad and test if a message sent with your POP account which will be the only email account available with the iPad's Mail app is recieved from your POP account/address.
If not, something else is wrong or on play that has nothing to do with the iPad. -

Why is mail being sent from wrong account
I am trying to send mail from a specific account, however even though it is showing as the correct account when it is received it is from my partners account. I have followed the @mail@ set up and checked everything - which appears to be ok - but it is still wrong somewhere. HELP please.
I am having this same issue. I have several accounts (all .live) which I use for my various different jobs. Frequently now I am sending a mail, or replying to a mail, and it is being received from the wrong account.
- I check the account at the top of the mail that I am sending is correct.
- the mail listed in my 'Sent' folder shows as being sent from the correct account.
- When a client replies to my mail, the reply comes to an incorrect account, and on their email the heading for my original mail shows the incorrect email address & name.
- the email accounts seem to be random - not always the same incorrect one is used. -
All mail being sent from default account!!!!
Hello. I have four (4) email accounts linked to my iPhone. Whenever I send a message from any account, it sends it from the default account. Is there a way to fix this?
I'll try to explain in better like this ...
- My default account is #1 of 4
- I want to send a message from account #2
- It sends find, but it sends it from account #1, not #2
- So, when someone replies to my message, it gets sent to account #1, not #2 like it should.
I have talked to a few of my friends that have iPhones and they said theirs didn't do that, but they weren't sure how to fix it. Can anyone please help me!
Thanks!jvnatale,
How are you sending messages? If you are sending a website link or a picture, it will use your default email address. If you want to send a message from a particular email, you need to go into Mail and into the account you want to send from before tapping on the new message icon. That way the iPhone knows you want to send from that account.
Hope this helps,

How do i set up Mail to receive from an internet account?
Hi.
I wonder if anyone can tell me how to set up Mail so I can check my messages from an internet based e-mail? I'm using Wanadoo and would like to able to receive messages straight to Mail rather than have to check them 'online'. Hope someone can help, thanks in advance.Hello Tymon.
I checked Wanadoo's website and it appears you can create your Wanadoo account in Mail and with other email clients as a POP type account.
Wanadoo provides instructions for doing so using Windows Outlook Express but the required account settings are the same to create the account with the Mail.app such as:
At the Mail.app menu bar, go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts. Select the + sign at the bottom of the accounts window to add a new email account selecting POP as the account type.
Account Description: Whatever you prefer such as Wanadoo.
Email Address Field: Enter your Wanadoo email address.
Full Name: Whatever you prefer which will be shown next to your email address when a message is received.
User Name: This should include everything after the '@' symbol for your Wanadoo email address. Note: If you use their Broadband service, do not include '@fs' at the end of your Username for email.
Password: Your Wanadoo account password.
Incoming Mail Server: pop.wanadoo.co.uk
Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.wanadoo.co.uk
This should be all you need.
If your email address includes Freeserve instead of xxxxxx.wanadoo.co.uk, the incoming and outgoing mail servers are different.
Check this link.

How NOT to save iCloud Mail messages sent from iPhone?
Using iCloud Mail on a MacBook / Safari, e-mail messages are NOT saved - the relevant box in Preferences is unchecked. However they are saved in the Sent folder when sent from an iPhone. Is there any way they are NOT saved either way?
Again, ON MY IPHONE only has Sent option. There's no way you can set the Sent mailbox to any Trash anywhere.

It seems the mail is sent in plain text and when I try to open the attachment on my phone i just get a screen with the document name and type. If I send a plain text mail from my outlook client with the same attachment then this works fine.
Is there anything I can do to make these attachments open on my iPhone?
Thanks in advance

Way to avoid setting up Mail to email from online links?
I recently got a new macbook pro, and have not set up Mail yet. I do not plan on using it. When I click on any contact links online (safari browser) it does not display address but automatically sends me to Mail and prompts me for setup. I don't have transfer info for account and don't want to use mail at all. Maybe this is more of a safari question, but is there any way for email links online to direct me someplace other than mail or just display the address instead of opening mail app?
thanks. You don't have to use Mail and Mail can change the default email application.
Open Mail.
From the Mail menu, choose Preferences.
Click the General button.
Choose your desired default email application from the Default Email Reader pop-up menu.
OR you can use RCDefaultApp to change the default email client. -
E-mail messages sent from Dynamics CRM
Hi,
I have Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online (recently updated to version 2015) integrated with Microsoft Office 365 midsize business so we also use Exchange Online on the same domain.
Is it possible, when I send an e-mail from CRM, to see it also in the Sent Items of my Mailbox?
It seems that they are not "integrated" even if the system is in fact the same!
thanks in advance
DaniloDear Friends,
E-mail messages sent, are received not in the paragraph-form as sent, but are broken-up into small segments, one line finely printed, the next line may appear with two or three words printed on it, then the next line will show a few words at the end of it, while the next line appears as the start of another paragraph, and so on and on and on. So that the original message, although sent in the one paragraph-form, winds up being received as several paragraphs, each broken up into several segments. My contacting Apple has produced no solution thus far. I am new at this computer
business and would greatly appreciate any help you can give me on this score. Thanking you in advance for your interest and kind help.
Yours Truly,
Broduff.
