Setting Acrobat 7 as my default

I have both Acrobat 5 & Acrobat 7 on my machine. I keep getting 5 as the default in web browsers (safari, firefox, netscape) and when opening .pdf files.
How do I force everything over to 7?
Note: I have a machine that boots into either OS 9.2 or 10.3.9. The Acrobat 5 is left over from my system 9 days.

Hi Ken
If you wish to have all .pdf files open in Acrobat 7, locate a .pdf document, highlight and press Command + i to open the Information Box.
Where is says, Open with: choose Acrobat 7 as the application. If it is not listed, click further to Other and navigate to Acrobat 7.
Where is says, use this application to open all documents like this:, choose Change All.

  • Setting Acrobat as PDF Default in MS Outlook

I recently downloaded the most recent Adobe Reader update -- at some point in the update, the application went in and changed my default setting in MS Outlook so that all pdf email attachments are now opened using Adobe Reader (instead of the more versatile Acrobat).
How do I locate and reset the default setting?

I figured it out. I deleted the .PDF extenion from the registry (HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT>.PDF) and did a repair in acrobat.

  • Setting Acrobat Reader as default

when I open a PDF file it opens in Preview. How do I change it so that by default the Acrobat Reader opens the PDf files. I went to the Acrobat Reader website but their instructions didn't work for me. Thank you for responding.

You need to have at least Adobe Reader 6 to do this. (It was Acrobat Reader; it's been Adobe reader for several versions now.) If you have an older version, go to adobe's site and download a more recent one. The current version is 7.05.
EDIT Oh, wait. I answered this thinking you meant you wanted to see web pages in your browser without downloading them. If you mean your downloaded pages open in Preview and you want to change it, click once on the icon of a closed PDF, press command + i for the get info window, change the application to Reader, then Change All.

  • How do I set Acrobat as default over Reader?

I use Acrobat Professional but recently installed Reader to check my PDF forms.
Can someone tell me how to set Acrobat as the default program in favor of Reader?
    Thanks

    Hi Steve,
    Thanks for the answer.
This was one of those questions that one asks yet feels really dumb doing so. I've been using the Macintosh as a graphic designer for about 25 years now, but have never had a reason to do this! I recall now seeing the default notation in the Get Info boxes.
This is what happenes from long days at the keyboard. Oh well, I'm not complaining. I love my work!
    Thanks again,
    Bill

  • Windows 8.1 is forgetting Acrobat as my default PDF viewer after startup

I installed Arcobat XI Pro on Windows 8.1. I set Acrobat as my default PDF viewer during the installation. After the installation, none program was set as the default PDF viewer. When I tried to open a PDF file, Windows asked which program I want to use as my default PDF viewer. I Choose Acrobat.
Each time I start up my computer, Windows has forgotten my default PDF viewer. I did some research to find out if it was a problem with Windows or with Acrobat. I turns out to be a problem with Acrobat, becuase if I set Adobe Reader as my default PDF viewer, Windows does remember my default PDF viewer after startup.
Is there anybody with the same problem and do you have a solution?

    Hi Anand,
    Thanks for your responds.
This way is not working either. Both Reader and Acrobat are version 11.0.9.
Do you have any other solution? Beside, do you have any idea what is causing the problem?

  • Are there settings in Acrobat to enable a PDF file to open in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader by Default rather than open in a Browser

Are there settings in Acrobat to enable a PDF file to open in Acrobat or Acrobat Reader by Default rather than open in a Browser

There is a check box in the preference (under edit). I have not had great success with this setting, but that is what it is supposed to do. Don't expect it to happen in Chrome that has it's own PDF viewer (or the preview function on a MAC). You might also check the settings for your particular browser.

  • How to set the user's Default joboptions directory?

    Hello Experts,
When we installed Acrobat Pro 8.x on our Win XP Pro systems our systems were NOT in a Windows Domain.  At that time the default location for user-created/customized joboptions files was:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings
where <Username> is the name of the LOCAL Windows user.
A few years ago we migrated to a Windows Domain and converted our LOCAL users to domain users and disabled, but did not delete, the LOCAL user's account.  We did not remove the LOCAL user's Documents and Settings directory structure either.
Our users now log into a DOMAIN rather than the LOCAL account.
    As a result of that process the user's Documents and Settings directory structure changed to;
      C:\Documents and Settings\<Username.DOMAINNAME>
where DOMAINNAME is, of course, our Windows Domain Name.
    Now we are beginning to use Acrobat Distiller joboptions and I notice that when Acrobat/Distiller goes to save a user-created/customized joboptions file the default location has remained;
      C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings
which is NOT the user who is logged in
    Acrobat/Distiller should use the Documents and Settings directory of the user who is actually logged in which is;
      C:\Documents and Settings\<Username.DOMAINNAME>\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe PDF\Settings
This anomaly has created some confusion and appears to have created a dependency of the old LOCAL user's Documents and Settings directory preventing us from deleting it.
    Question:
How can we force Acrobat/Distiller to use the Documents and Settings directory of the logged in user (eg: the Domain user)?
In other words, how do we set the user's default joboptions directory?
    Pointers/tips/and tricks are most welcome.

    if the user is the one running the program, you can always get the home directory using System.getProperties ("user.home");
If you are trying to get the properties of another user, you could try using setProperties to change the user name first, before getiting the home directory, but it probably won't work because of the security manager. You could read the /etc/passwd file and parse the path out, but once again, the user of the code would have to have appropriate permission.

  • Adobe Acrobat X - initial (default) window size to large

I recently changed my monitor and now whenever I open a PDF the default window size takes up 80% of my screen.  I'm using Filemaker 12 to create these PDFs, and the inital view is set to Page Only, Single Page and 100% Magnification.  The problem is the Acrobat window is about twice the size of the page width, covering up the rest of my windows.  I cannot find the setting to specify the default window size?
    I'm running Acrobat X 10.1.6, running on OS X 10.8.3
    Please advise.

How are you creating your PDF from Excel? Are you using the PDFMaker macro or the Adobe PDF printer?

  • Acrobat X, change default message in emailing Forms

I have searched raised questions for an answer, there is one in 2010 on the same issue but for Acrobat 9, where Adobe simply say it can't be done, and the question writer tells Adobe they are foolish to not provide such an obvious requirement. So, hoping that Acrobat Pro X has adopted this since then. . . .
When distributing Forms via email, Acrobat provides a default message to go to the recipient. This can, of course be chnaged, but, everytime a new distribution is made, the default message has reverted and it has to be changed again. Any software designer with a ounce of intelligence would realise that the Forms creator needs to retain the modified message, and moreover, needs to keep a set of various standard messages that can be quickly selected.
I have found the file that holds the default message in location Documents and Settings\User\Application Data\Adobe\Acrobat\10.0\Forms\AdhocWorkflowBackup. This is a file without any extension. I have a programme that can view the file content and see the default message wording, but, I can't modify and save.
Please can someone help. Currently, I have to keep wordings I need in a Notepad file and continually copy it in.
In Acrobat X, there are several small things not provided that a user of the programe would need to make it a really good service. It's as if Adobe just did not bother to finish it off with a full set of normally needed tools and functions.
    Regards Jonathan

OK.  I will live with the fact that I can not change the text in the purple instruction heading.  I have a new problem.  In order to prevent others from tampering with the form, I have used Password Protection, Restrict Editing, entered a password under Change Permissions, allow printing and filling in form fields.  Then I used the Save As feature, Enable additional features.
I now have what I wanted, a form that can not be changed.  A day later I decided to add yet one more line of instruction.  I can NOT get into my own form.  I know the password (obviously), but I can not get to a screen that will allow me to enter it.

  • Acrobat Pro as Default PDF Reader

How can I make Acrobat Pro my default PDF reader, I am using a Mac and whenever I open a pdf it opens it in the Mac OS's 'Preview' software instead of Acrobat Pro

Select any PDF, Ctrl + click on "Mac", and select Adobe Reader under "Open With" option. Once the PDF opens with Reader, you will see an option to set it as default application to open PDF.

  • Set Print Annotations as Default for document

I revised a form provided to us by another agency. I inserted our "letterhead" using a textbox and then created another textbox to show the form number.
I tried to use the method of saving the form document as a PostScript file so the two textboxes would print, but I lost all of the form fields. Preflight won't work; it keeps failing before it gets even 1/4 the way down the first of seven pages. I was able to set the Print dialog to default to printing the first page only, but there is no apparent way to set the dialog to default to Documents & Images as well. This seems to be a change from v7, but I could be mistaken. We use use Acrobat Professional v9. Everything displays correctly. Is there a way to print everything the screen view shows?
    Thank you.

  • When I email myself a picture from my iphone 4s, the email is sent from an email account that I don't have set up as the default account. How can I set it up so that the emails are coming from the default account selected in Mail?

Under my mail tab, it shows that I have a specific email account set up as a default account. That is the account I would like for me emails to be sent from. But when I actually send out an email such as a picture, it is being sent from one of my different email accounts that is not set up as the default. How can I change this so that future messages will be sent from the default account? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!!

All photo attachments received or sent with the iPhone's Mail app appear inline or viewed in place within the body of the message when viewed with the iPhone's Mail app which is the same with the Mail.app on a Mac. A photo attachment that appears inline or viewed in place does not mean the photo was not sent as a true attachment to the message. A photo attached to a message with the iPhone's Mail app is sent as a true attachment to the message. How an inline or viewed in place attachment appears on the recipient's end depends on the recipient's email client. If the recipient's email client does not support viewing an attached photo inline or viewed in place within the body of the message, the attached file must be manually selected and opened to viewed.
I am getting the email with the Picture Inline ( not as attachment),The picture is shown distorted , no metter what i do and with what mail client i am using (Gmail\Hotmail\My Enterprise exchange mail), i still get the same behavior.
    With which email client?

I have a similar problem: I switched from mac mail to Outlook 2011 as the default client, and want to switch back. Mailto links (eg from browser etc) default to Mail.  However, when I try to email a Word document as an attachment, it continues to open Outlook.  Outlook has a button in its prefs for making it the default client, but I don't see a way to turn this pref off in either Outlook or in Word.

  • My HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus prints emails as landscape only; how to set to A4 as default?

All of a sudden my printer has set to landscape printing of emails; how to set it portrait as default for printing?

Hi there @OB1214 , welcome to the forums
I understand your emails are printing in landscape. If the issue is only when printing emails, there may be a setting within your email settings to change the print settings.
If all of your programs are printing in landscape, check the print settings on your computer.
Changing Print Settings in Mac OS X
Changing Print Settings in Windows 7
    I hope that helps!
If the problem continues, please let me know the details and also which OS you are running.
