Setting CS4 as Default File to Open Images

I am running XP and cannot set CS4 to be the default file to open my images. When I right click a file, select "open with", and choose CS4, nothing happens. I did not find this problem with CS3 or CS2, both of which I have uninstalled. Any suggestions?

I recommend you search this forum. This seems to hinge on an old registry key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT not being updated. Something to do with PhotoshopImage.90 or so. Sorry, I wasn't able to dig this up so quickly, but it's at most 2 weeks old, so you're sure to find it. Look for "file associations" or something like that.

  • How do I set Excel as default program to open CSV files?

I am using a program that creates CSV files which I wish to open with Excel. Currently, the CSV files just open as a raw data sheet on my computer. Support folks said I didn't have Excel as my default program to open CSV files; How do I do this?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

You can only set an automatic download action for CSV to open with Excel is a website sends such a file with a supported MIME type. In other cases you need to select the application to use. You can set the default application via Windows Explorer to make Firefox offer that as first choice (right click a CSV file > Open With).

  • How to change Bridge CC default's to open images in PS CC?

Bridge CC default to open images is PS CS6, how do I change the default to PS CC?

    Update on this issue:
    Concerning Ps CS6 seizing Dominance:
I did try UNinstalling and then re-installing Ps CC 14.00 but Ps CS6 still retained "Dominance" (meaning that it was impossible to change System Permissions to recognise that all PSDs should always be opened from the Finder in Ps CC).
Finally I uninstalled Ps CS6 from this HD and now CC has established "Dominance".
Bridge CS6 was NOT removed from my HD when I uninstalled Ps CS6. (You need to keep Bridge CS6 until Adobe replaces the the AOM Panel in Bridge CC.)
Also, choosing the Default File Associations in Bridge CC, now correctly sets all Photoshop-related Associations to Ps CC instead of Ps CS6.
Duplicated from another thread beause there are multiple threads all discussing the same issue!

  • How to set the system default file character encoding to UTF-8?

Hi all. This is driving me nuts, on both my Windows box and Snow Leopard; I figure much more chance of finding the answer for OS X.
My language and locale are set to Australian English. $LANG=en_AU.UTF-8
However, as I believe is expected, OS X (and Windows for that matter) will create files by default with character encoding of Cp1252 (Latin-1). That is, the FILE encoding in the file metadata - the Byte Order Mark I believe. The file itself, not the characters written to it.
This, in a word, bites. I don't want to be restricted to only ASCII by default, and it is causing me problems with certain software (a Firefox plugin) that creates text files, passing in UTF-8 encoded content, which is then mangled because the file encoding itself is still Cp1252. (I know, I've tested this by changing the file encoding manually and having it overwritten again by the plugin: works correctly.)
As a simple example, just `touch somefile` from terminal creates a file in Cp1252 -- I'm obtaining that info by opening in jEdit by the way (anyone know of something better?).
In other locales that are not English-based, I believe the default file encoding is UTF-8. But surely this can be controlled independently? There must be a system configuration value somewhere that specifies file encoding default. Can someone please tell me what it is?
    Thanks!

Apps like TextEdit and Mail have settings that let you determine the encoding of text produced. The default would normally depend on the character content of the file, ranging from ASCII for basic English to Windows Latin-1 (Win 1252) or ISO Latin -1 (ISO 8859-1) to UTF-8 for other content.
Win 1252 is not ASCII, but has twice the number of characters in the latter.
Byte Order Mark is something totally different --it's a particular character used to signal certain encodings.

For what Terminal does and how to change it, it might best to post in the Unix forum:

For problems with a FireFox plugin, it might be good to ask on their own forums as well.

  • Set nautilus as default file manager in kde?

I would give kde a good chance, but I have several issues with konqueror. Is it possible to set nautilus as the default file manager in kde? I have started nautilus from kde before.
    Is this possible?

    OK then. Install nautilus.
control center > file associations > inode > directory [ then add: "nautilus --no-desktop" ] (make sure it's primary in the list)
You'll not be able to open KIO slaves such as media:// with nautilus though. Maybe you should create launchers on the desktop running "nautilus --no-desktop computer://" etc?
There are some other cosmetic changes you can do as well, such as installing gnome-volume-manager, gnome-settings-dameon, gnome-control-center etc.
Another way is just to add "nautilus --no-desktop" as default application for inode > directory, but don't add it as *primary*, but secondary application, so you can right click and choose "open with nautilus" on the desktop/konqueror.
I've successfully run a complete nautilus desktop replacing konqueror as root window and file manager, and it works really good actually.
I did uncheck "icons on desktop" and disabled wallpaper in kcontrol.
Had to disable "hal backend" in kde to let gnome-volume-manager take care of hal mounts; "HalBackendEnabled=false" in .kde/share/config/mediamanagerrc
Then i had to run "gnome-settings-daemon &" in .kde/Autostart/startup (this file should be executable, as usual) (nautilus itself is a GUI application and will survive  the next session on it's own, because of KDE session managment)
I took the easy route and installed the whole "gnome" metapackage instead of selective packages though.
The only problem was that kedit.desktop didn't want to start as default application for say, text files, but i had to enter kedit manually in that box you get during "open with dialog".
    I bastardized KDE, i know
    It was worth it! hehe
BTW dolphin/d3lphin is really good too, as lucke pointed out.

  • Set Windows XP Default File Dialog Directory

Anyone know how to set the default directory that shows when a file dialog box is opened in Windows XP? I am using a subVI from the NI website that allows multiple files to be selected from a file dialog box, BUT there is no start directory input into the VI, and the VI is based on DLL calls for which the code was not provided. Ideally I was hoping I could set the default directory for XP in Labview, so that each time this Select Multiple Files subVI is called I can read the directory of the files selected, then set the default directory to that directory, so it is updated every time.
    Michael

I have tried implementing the SetCurrentDirectory but it doesn't seem to work as wanted. I run the Select Multiple Files VI, and take the first file, strip the path of the file, and call the kernel32.dll to SetCurrentDirectory. If you select more than one file, the Open File dialog box will not default to that directory the next time you run the program.
I read on msdn2 (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms646839.aspx) about OPENFILENAME struct, and how it is used to determine the initial directory for an open file dialog box, but I'm not sure how to access that struct. Maybe this is what I need to change, or maybe I have to use the SetCurrentDirectory somehow in conjuction with the other DLL call (which I don't know how to do since I don't have the code for it). Any ideas?
I don't have experience with .llb's, so I'm having a problem attaching. I've attached the modified File Dialog (Windows API) VI, the rest of the files can be found at http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/4737

  • Set .doc as Default File Type

How do I set to save my files as .doc rather then .pages by default?
I choose to save as, and choose save copy as a .doc file. After that point, every time I press save, It brings the save as dialog box up again rather then saving over the .doc file.
I won't be able to cope with using iWorks unless I can choose to always save as .doc, as I edit all my files at some point on my University Windows/Microsoft Office Network.

"Making Pages write out as .doc by default would be trivial to implement, and valuable for those of us working cross-platform with Linux and Windows; its pure business logic leading Apple to make saving as .doc a more manual operation than saving as .pages"
Take a look at NeoOffice and/or OpenOffice.org. You'll notice that neither of these support setting .doc as the default format for saving word processing documents either. One or both do warn you that the MS Office format for this type of document may not support some of the formatting you have done in the document, and suggest that you save in the native Open Document format.
The same applies with Pages, Numbers and Keynote—some things you can do with the iWork applications is not supported by the MS Office applications (and vice versa).
If what you suggest is critically important to your use and enjoyment of this application, go to the Pages menu, choose Provide Pages Feedback, and request that this feature be added. If you (and a sufficiently large number of others) make similar requests, it may convince the developers to add this feature. If little interest is expressed, it's not going to happen.

    Barry

  • Change default program that opens images?

I'm having trouble with this. Been digging through gconf all day and still no avail. I'm looking for a way to change which program opens images. Ever since I installed gimp it has been opening them instead of eog. How can I change this?

If you are using gnome, then you can right-click on a jpg and select "Open with other Application".  Select eog and it should become the default after that.

  • How do you make photoshop be the default program to open image files from bridge?

I just installed CS5.5 and tried to open some pictures but it keeps opening in Windows live photo gallery. I don't even see opening in photoshop as an option when I right click and scroll down to "open with" (for jpeg images). I never had this issue with CS3, bridge just automatically opened files in photoshop.
    Thanks!

  • Setting default application to open .doc files

    Hello,
I'm having a problem with the Info box. I can't seem to set all my .doc files to open with Word 2004. I have repeatedly opened an Info box on several different .doc files, and set them to Open With: Word 2004, and then had it Change All... But it never sticks, it always defaults back to Word 2008. I have both Word 2004 and Word 2008 installed. Maybe they don't play nice with each other. Or maybe they are messing with OS X 10.4. Any thoughts?
    thanks.

Oh. Great discovery & thanks for the feedback.
UPDATE: I changed one .doc file to open with Word '04, and bingo it did! I tried it again with another file, it worked too. So it works if I use the Info box and change only one file at a time, but not when I Change All. hmmmm....
    Oh I deduce...
When you change an individual file, X is inserting a pointer to the application to start. When you do a change all, X is changing the default application to start. X is not hardcoding the default to given application, but setting the default to an application id. In turn, the application id then maps to an application. When you install a later version of the application the application id gets mapped to the new application.
Interestingly, I rarely use the global change. I change only one program at a time. I was confused because I had not worked with multiple version of the same program. I use multiple programs to edit and view HTML.

  • Setting Default File Availability

Is it possible to set the SendNow default file availability at something other than 30 days?  I would like to set availability at 14 days and leave it, rather than set it at each send. Wonderful online service! Feels as if it was made for us. Thanks.

    Hello there,
Thanks for posting! This is a great feature suggestion; we're absolutely interested in making settings in SendNow (and Acrobat.com and Adobe CreatePDF) more customizable, so we'll certainly be discussing your idea as we plan for future releases.
Also, since it sounds like you've been able to use the service a bit, I'd like to invite you to participate in Adobe's Customer Reference Program; it would just consist of a 30-minute phone call with someone from the team here, so it wouldn't be a huge commitment. We'd very much appreciate to hear your feedback on the product. Please let me know if you'd be interested in speaking with us; if you are, I can have our Customer Reference Program Manager contact you shortly.
Thank you again for posting your suggestion; and keep 'em coming as you continue to use SendNow!
