Setting default calendar to iCal Server

Can anyone help me figure out how to set up our network accounts (actually PHDs) to automatically use the users' calendars on the server instead of the default 'Home' and 'Work' local calendars? I would like to make it easy for our employees to use their server-based calendar by default, so that scheduling will work properly, etc.
I am using an Advanced setup; I seem to remember reading elsewhere that this is easier in other installations, but hopefully it is also possible somehow in Advanced.
Thanks for any advice on this,
Greg

I haven't found a network setting for that yet. However, you can make event invitations default to the network calendars by closing the heading on the local calendars (on the users iCal). Of course, deleting the local calendars works, too.

I know this email is confusing and really hard to understand...perhaps now you will know how i've been feeling--lost and confused with all the mis-information, with a hit and miss phone, and out of time with all the 1 1/2 hr to 2 hrs EACH wasted on this issue.
On top of all this, I can't even find out how to file a complaint with anyone higher up than Customer Service.
I hate to tell you this, but you didn't write an email. You wrote a discussion post on the Verizon Wireless Community forum which is a public peer to peer forum. Unfortunately since you didn't mark your post as a question, the VZW reps that roam this community won't ever see your post. Before you re-post it, don't. Duplicate posts get removed from the community.
I see there were several missteps both by the reps and yourself in your post. First you should have insisted on returning the phone within the 14 day return policy period. Second which Samsung Galaxy mini model did you purchase? The S3 mini or the S4 mini? Did you do any research prior to deciding on this device. The reps at that time deflected the easiest course of action, by trying to get you to replace the phone under insurance instead of returning the phone. The Early Edge payment option requires the current phone on the line using the early Edge must be returned to Verizon Wireless. Did you once considered going to a third party site like Swappa to purchase a gently used device for your daughter?

  • How do you set the default calendar in iCal

I have 6 different calendar. I want a certain one to be the default calendar in iCal but cannot figure out how to make it happen.

    Andrew,
The most you can do to the calendar you want to be 'default or so say' is to drag it to the top of the list in iCal. What that will do is if you get an invitation in Mail it will add it to that top calendar.
If you mean you want to be able to choose were your Notes and To Do's goto? Go to while in mail (Mail)/(Preferences)/(Composing)/ and in the (Create Notes & To Do's in:) select (On My Mac). Now you will have an option of what calendar you want to use when you make the Note/To Do.
Other then that you have to select the Calendar you want as default.
    Hope that helps,
    Weston

  • Setting Default Views of Mounted Server Shares

In OS X 10.5 server, how do I change the owner of a volume? So I can do the stuff below? Do I change the owner in the Finder...? Or do you use the OS X Server admin utility type programs?

You can set custom view options (window size, icon placement, and so forth) that clients see when they connect to a server volume via Apple File Service (AFP).
You can customize the size, position, and other view options of the window that clients see when they connect to a server volume via Apple File Service (AFP). You can do this on a per-volume basis.
To customize view options, follow these steps:
    1. Log in to a client computer.
    2. Using Connect to Server, connect to the target volume as the owner of the volume; the owner must not be an administrator account (see Notes 1, 2, and 3, below).
    3. Make any desired changes to the window position, view mode (Icons, List, Columns), icon arrangement, or any of the settings found in View Options window (Command-J).
    4. Disconnect from the server volume by dragging it to the Trash.

  • Setting the default calendar within iCal

When I click on an appointment within an Email, it is added to iCal as expected. However, I would like to have appointments imported to a specific calendar within iCal by default. How do I do that?

    sevenpercentsolution,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Click on an eligible event to display a contextual menu, and select "Create New iCal Event..." Then choose the appropriate calendar in the "calendar" field of the "New Event" window. This may not be exactly what you are looking for, but it is as close as you will get to setting a default addition.
If you right click on the eligible entry there will be additional contextual menu choices which may or may not be useful.

  • Set default calendar in the ical 5.0.1?

How do I set the default calendar for new events in ical 5.0.1   I just upgraded my iMac to Lion and have migrated to icloud.  The calendar that ical currently defaults to is an "unclicked" calendar on My Mac rather than any of the "clicked" (active) calendars on icloud.  I tried dragging the preferred default calendar to the top of the icloud calnedar list - that didn't work.
I don't want to totally delete the calendar that is being used as the default, but I certainly don't want it as the default calendar.  Any suggestions?

No worries, we all forget the obvious at times
Thanks for the star and have a great day.

  • How do I create a group calendar in iCal Server 3?

    Hello everyone,
I have set up a Mac Mini server to address the calendaring needs of my company.  I have also turned on the iCal service using the Server app in the Lion OS.  While the shared calendaring functions for individual users of iCal are great, my company is in need of general office calendar for postings of things like vacation times, company holidays, special conferences, etc.  Is there a way to configure the Mac Mini server to allow the setup of such a calendar?
    Maximus. Prime

Okay, with everyone's help, I believe I have found a resolution to this issue.  I am very grateful to everyone who has contributed this discussion.  Your help has been invaluable.
    1.  The first thing I did was to ensure that the iCal and Wiki servers were both running.
    2.  Next, I created a user whose sole purpose was to create wikis on the server.  (In retrospect, I probably didn't have to do this, as any administrative account, which is what I have, can also make wikis).
    3.  I then created a wiki.  To do this open up your Web browser and enter in the name of your server followed by "/wiki" (no quotes).  An example of this is servername.local/wiki.  (If you are unsure as to whether or not DNS on your local network is working, you can enter the IP address of the server followed by /wiki).
    4.  Next login into the wiki by clicking on the lock icon in the toolbar.  (You can use the account you created earlier or any admin account on the iCal server for login).
    5.  Click the Wikis button.
    6.  Click the plus sign in the toolbar, then click New Wiki.
    7.  Enter a name and optional description.  It is much better to enter a short name with no spaces.  This will matter in a later step.
    8.  Next you will see the Set Wiki Access dialog box.  Here is where you can enter users of the wiki (calendar), and their permissions (i.e. Owner, Read-Write, etc.).
    9.  When done with the previous step, click create, and you should be taken to the "welcome" page of your wiki.
    10. Click the gear icon in the toolbar then select settings.
    11. Select Services in the sidebar, put a check into the Calendar box, and select Save.
    12. You should now see a link for Calendar underneath your toolbar.  Select it, then select Settings to adjust your timezone settings, etc.
    13. You can log out of the wiki at this point.
    14. Go to one of the users who was given access to the wiki in step 8.
    15. Open iCal -- Preferences then select the Accounts tab.
**Now here is where things get "tricky."**
    16. It is likely that this user has a functioning account on your iCal server.  If you go to the Server Settings tab of the account and check the Server Path, you will see an entry similar to /principals/__uids__/longstringofalphanumericcaharacters/.
    17. Replace the long string of alphanumeric characters with "wiki-wikiname" (no quotes).  The wikiname is the name you entered in step 7.
    18. Close the iCal preferences box, and close iCal.
    19. The user may be prompted to re-enter his/her password.  Do so, and afterward you should be have access to the wiki-based group calendar.
UH OH...what about the user's normal account?!?!?!
    20. Go back into the account preferences tab of iCal and re-add the user's normal iCal account with his/her normal credentials.  All of the user's calendar information should return because it is on the server and backed up regularly...right?
This solution appears to be working for me so far.  I have verified that users who can only read from the wiki calendar do not have the ability to edit the calendar.  Of course, those who can edit the calendar are able to do.  These test users are also able to use their normal iCal accounts without any issues.

  • Change default calendar in iCal?

I have two google calendars which sync properly with iCal. However, the wrong calendar is on top (listed alphabetically). When I enter a new event from iCal, the default is to go to the wrong calendar. How can I switch them, or convince iCal to only add events to the second one?

In the left sidebar of iCal ensure the calendar you wan to add events to is selected. Unfortunately, you can't rearrange the Google calendars in iCal.

  • Re-Set Default Calendar Reader?

Hi All, Quick Question: When I Installed Now Up To Date the OS asked a question "Do you Want to make NUTD your Default Calendar Reader?". Well, I said yes at the time but now I want to change it back to iCal. Does anyone know where the switch is in Tiger to tell the OS to make iCal the Default Calendar Reader? Let me know if you know. Thanks! Larry

    Larry,
According to Now Software Support Article ID: 001609, that preference is controlled through the com.nowsoftware.nowuptodate.plist file. Deleting the file should restore your iCal preference.
Delete the file as directed, but do not select NUTD as the default when you open NUTD.

  • New Outlook 2013 User Unable to Publish default Calendar to WebDAV server

We have a new user. Created new Active Domain account, made domain account administrator on local machine and setup Outlook 2013 with our Go Daddy pop and smtp email settings.
Email messaging works fine.  When I try and share the default calendar there is no dialogue box for our WebDAV server.  Again, I right click the default calendar and see "Share", "Publish to a WebDAV Server..." but
nothing after that.  The box for the server location and sharing details just does not come up.
I created a new calendar and can share that.  A copy of the default calendar can be published, but not the default calendar itself.
    Any ideas?

Was able to finally get the default calendar to publish. Seems that it had something to do with how many shared calendars the user was subscribed to. The user had accepted about a dozen calendar invitations.
Deleting the calendar subscriptions allowed the default calendar to publish to the WebDAV server.

  • Set default gateway on headless server (via ssh)

I'm trying to configure one of the two ethernet interfaces on a headless Xserve. I managed to give it an address and subnet mask with ifconfig, but I can't figure out how to give it a default gateway or dns server.
    I tried using this:
sudo route add default gw xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx en0
but I got the error 'route: bad address: gw'
is there something wrong with my syntax, or does this just not work on OS X?

    Something's wrong with your syntax
    Try:
    <pre class=command>sudo route add default a.b.c.d</pre>
The keyword 'gw' is not needed, and you also don't need to specify an interface since the OS should be able to work it out from the IP address(es) assigned to your interface(s).

  • Is it possible to set a default Calendar in iCal?

I use a calender that is served by Kerio. I want to set that as the default, so that when I create a new entry (as in Apple-N) it uses the set calendar, and not the first one in the list in iCal, which is a local file. I cannot delete the local ical files, as they contain loads of data from before we started using Kerio, and the Kerio calendar cannot be shifted to the top of the cal list, so as to be selected as default it seems!
If it is a question of moving all the local data to the server cal file and then deleting the local file(s) so that the desired calendar is at the top of the list, is there a bulk way of doing this? I have years of old data, so doing it item by item is not viable!

    Hi,
If you first select the calendar on the left, so that its background is highlighted blue/grey, when you make a new events they should be added to that calendar.
    Best wishes

  • Set a Default Calendar for New Appointments in iCal?

I never found a post with a sufficient answer to this question. However, it seems as though I may have stumbled on a resolution myself.
iCal has it's own default calendars: Home and Work. I use MobileMe so the MoblieMe calendar is listed there as well. I also have an iPhone 4. I wanted all calendars to syncronize automatically when I create a new appointment on any of the 3 locations (laptop, cloud, or phone). I found that when create a new event in iCal on my macbook pro, it wouldn't update with mobileme or my phone. This was because when I double click to create a new event, iCal automatically puts the new event into my "Home" calendar, even though it was unchecked and not highlighted. As soon as I double click to create the new event, iCal's default kicks in and the Home calendar in the "On My Mac" section suddenly becomes checked and highlighted all by itself and the new event is automatically placed there, never to be updated with the cloud or on my phone.
I think the problem may be related to something I read under "How Do I Set a Default Calendar for New Appointments in iCal?" There a solution given was that the uppermost calendar was being defaulted to and it was suggested to drag the desired calendar to the uppermost position. None of my calendars would drag anywhere. However, I find that if I uncheck Home and Work in the column on the left under "On My Mac" AND then click the arrow so those two calendars are hidden (very important), and then check and highlight the only showing calendar: MobileMe, that (so far) when I doulbe click to create a new event, a new event is created in the MobileMe calendar, and Home and/or Work under the "On My Mac" section never becomes checked or highlighted. So the new event is created only in the MobileMe calendar listed and updates on my laptop, in the cloud, and on my phone.
So far that has been my experience; but, it has been only minutes since I tried that, so let's see what happens after a couple of weeks or so of normal use and see if the problem is actually resolved.

I have been searching for this information for weeks now -- thank you!
This works for Google Calendar as well as for Mobile Me. I'm going to type a little more information here to see if I can help this answer come up more quickly for other users when they keyword search as I was doing.
This answer helped me reset and change the default calendar for iCal. I can now set my Google Calendar as the default calendar in iCal. When I create a new event in iCal, it syncs to Google Calendar as the default calendar without having to choose another calendar. All my iCal new events now go directly to Google Calendar and sync to my iPhone and iPad. I couldn't move the gmail google calendar to the top position, and just unchecking Home and Work didn't change where new events defaulted. Now my new events automatically go from iCal to google calendar, and I don't lose track of any events. I think you can set any calendar as the default iCal calendar for new events using this approach.

  • ICal Server Shared Calendars "403" Error

    Greetings,
We are currently running a 10.7.4 Server with 10.7.4 clients. The problem is with the calendar system's sharing funtion. Some users will consistantly receive an error message "403" Stating that the user does not have permission to edit the item when they edit an item or change an existing event to another user's shared calendar. After some troublshooting I found that if I made the claendar in question the default calendar in iCal, I was able to create vents without problem. I have tried removing the problemed users from that calendar's list of shared users, and changing permissions back and forth from Read to Read/Write without any success. There are no iCloud or MobileMe accounts on any of the client machines, a pertinent negative as searching for a resolution to this issue yeilds many similar problems related to those services.
    Summary:
Creating or editing an event in a shared calendar within iCal (while not the host of sdaid calendar) results in a error code 403. However, when the user in question changes their default calendar to the shared calendar, there is no issue creating new events. The issue is only persistant with a few users. Other users have no issue manipulting existing records in the same shared calendar.
    Configuration:
    OS X Lion Server (10.7.4)
    iCal service is configured properly
    Clients are all running 10.7.4
    Screenshot of the error message:
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    I have got same problem.
After importing the calendar user can't create new appointments.
It isnt possible to add a new appointment.
let me know if there is an solution?
    Thanks.
