Setting Default Keyboard Language

I just acquired an PowerBook G4 and the thing is set to always turn on with the keyboard set to French language.
Once running I know how to switch between English and French settings (and we do use the French at times).
I would like to have the English keyboard as my default at startup.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Hi everybody,
Can somebody please enlight me where I can make
system wide changes to the default keyboard layout?OK, I have found out that I am supposed to reboot, cancel the boot process and enter what seems to be one or another system configuration utility. There I can change the layout to German and save the configuration with a name, for example "german'. Now what?! I can only enter the configuration details again with F2 or run the scan, there's no way to exit the the routine and use the fresh installation. When I reboot by doing ctrl+alt+del everything I saved is lost the next time I enter the utility.
I am pretty disappointed by the way things are handled in Solaris. Online documentation is pretty poor too. Compared to other common Unix platforms such as *BSD or common Linux distributions everything takes hours instead of minutes, all the defaults are set to the worst possible options, nothing can be found where it is expected to be found.
It would be pretty cool if there was a sample document that descibes these common troubles for people like me with a *BSD and GNU/Linux background.
Questions like;
How do I change the default keyboard layout?
Where can I change the default shell to BASH?
How do I change the PATH environment variable for all users?
and such should be answered.
So far I am miles away from a productive system and I'm already regretting Solaris before I have even used it because I wasted days just to install the bare essentials.
thanks,
Tobias

  • Default keyboard language and MacOS system  language

    After I set default keyboard language to English it is automatically applied by macOS as a default language for the whole system. Is there a way to set English as a default language only for the keyboard, but at the same time set Ukrainian to be a default system language?

    Alex_Pros wrote:
    I want keyboard to open with English as a default language
    I assume you need to have both US and Ukrainian on the list at system preferences/keyboard/input sources, right?
    Try removing Ukrainian from this list, restarting (which should give you US as default), and then adding Ukrainian again.
    If that doesn't work, try going to system preferences/language & region and using the plus button to make some language below the line (for which nothing is localized) like Afrikaans the preferred language, with Ukrainian second.  This should keep US as the default keyboard and Ukrainian as the OS language.

    I think you cannot set default value with something that is not on the list.
    try to do it differently, leave the 3 option and set the default value to New.
    then, edit the "newform.aspx" and hide the field, with jQuery
    jQuery(document).ready(function($) {
    $("select[title='fieldName']").closest("tr").hide();
    then, edit the "editform.aspx" and remove the "New" option from the drop down with javascript
    jQuery(document).ready(function($) {
    $("select[title='fieldName'] option[value='New']").remove();
    hmmm welcome to SharePoint :)

  • Set DEFAULT spellcheck language

    Running Ubuntu 13.04, firefox can't help but highlight every word red every time I type into a textbox, because the top entry in RIGHTCLICK>>LANGUAGES is "French". The others read, in order, "French (Belgium)", "English (United Kingdom)", "French (Luxembourg)", "English (United States)", "French (Swiss)", "French (France)", "English (South Africa)", "French (Canada)", "Persian", "Persian (Iran)", "English (Australia)". Now I don't deny that I may have gone on a splurge many years ago having discovered new languages' spellcheck. Whatever the case, I want to be rid of all but "English (United States)", "Persian (Iran)", and "French (France)", in that order, with "English (United States)" as the DEFAULT.
    Unfortunately, the first option ("French") is the default, which means that every textbox I go to, regardless of what I chose in the previous textbox, the spellcheck language is reset to French. There are no firefox addons that would suggest a change in language, other than perhaps Ubuntu Firefox Modifications, Ubuntu Online Accounts, Unity Desktop Integration, or Unity Websites integration that I can fathom would change the default spellcheck language, nor any such plugins or languages. about:config shows spellchecker.dictionary as a user-set en_US, and EDIT>>PREFERENCES>>CONTENT>>LANGUAGES shows, "in order of preference", en-us, en, fa, and ar; though I don't think the latter is related to my problem, since webpages show in the correct language; it's just the spellcheck.

    As it turns out, OpenOffice and Firefox both use the same spellcheckers, namely hunspell and myspell, of which I have the following packages:
    * myspell-en-{au,gb,za}, which who knows how those got checked in Synaptic,
    * myspell-fa and myspell-fr, which I added myself.
    * hunspell-en-us
    After uninstalling myspell-en-{au,gb,za} in Synaptic, my English spellcheck is only us (presumably from hunspell), as I would like. I didn't uninstall FA or FR because I would like them for both OO and ff. Since I won't need it in ff or OO, I also removed fr_{CH,CA,BE}.{dic,aff} from /usr/share/hunspell.
    Finally, it seems that I was mistaken about the spellchecker.dictionary option in about:config, and that this does set the default value, as sites are now showing "en_US" as the default spellchecker upon right click. So philipp was right!
    Thank you both for solving my problem!

  • [SOLVED]Setting Default Keyboard

    I am VERY new to Archlinux, and I am just installing it into OpenSuse/Virtualbox.
    My question is so basic, it's embarrassing. When Archlinux first starts (in the shell), it defaults to the US keyboard. I have to issue the command "loadkeys uk"  everytime.
    How do I get it to start up with the UK keyboard configuration?
    My apologies again for such a basic question
    Thanks in advance

    It is possible that you have switched the keyboard layout by accident.
    * http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258824 - How to change your keyboard layout
    Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application and you may have changed the keyboard layout by accident via a keyboard shortcut.
    * http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306993 - HOW TO: Use the Language Bar in Windows XP
    * Make sure that you have the Language bar visible on the Windows Taskbar
    * You can do that via the right-click context menu of the Taskbar: Toolbars > Language Bar
    * Check the keyboard language (keyboard layout) setting for the application that has focus via the icon on the Language bar
    * You need to do that while Firefox has focus because Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application
    * The default key combination to rotate the layout is the Ctrl+Shift or Alt+Shift combination that Firefox uses for some menu items
    * To avoid an unintentional switch, assign a specific key sequence (Alt/Ctrl+Shift+number) to select keyboard layouts and remove the key combination to rotate layouts (Alt+Shift or Ctrl+Shift)
    * Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Languages > Text services and input languages > Details > Key Settings > Change Key Sequence

  • Use GPO to set default language options, IME, display settings?

    new to GPO, we have a small Windows Server 2012 domain, all clients on Win7 or Win8.  All the clients require the following changes, anything I can automate this with GPO?  thanks
    Under Control Panel\Clock, Language, and Region\Language > Add Traditional Chinese HK SAR
    Under Control Panel\Clock, Language, and Region\Language > Traditional Chinese HK SAR > Options, Add Microsoft Quick IME
    Under Control Panel\Clock, Language, and Region\Language\Advanced settings - change language bar hot keys
        - CTRL+SHIFT+0 ------  To English (United States) - US
        - CTRL+SHIFT+0 ------  To Chinese (Traditional, Taiwan) - Microsoft Quick IME
    Under Control Panel > Region > Advimistrative > Change System Locale...  change to Chinese HK SAR for non-unicode programs
    Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display > Change the size of all items, use custom 123%.
    Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display > Update Text size to 8 for Title bars, Menu, Message Boxes, Icons, Tooltips
    I found this for the display scaling registry changes but it is for 125% and it uses 78 for the dword value, not sure about custom 123%.

    Hi lilyl,
    According to your description, you would like to deploy some settings about language and display via GPO.
    According to my knowledge, the steps you provided are from Windows 8 clients. Based on my test, you can use the following methods to realize:
    Add Traditional Chinese HK SAR. Locate the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload, and then add a String Value "next number"(which has not been used)=00000404.
    The region settings. Please refer to the similar post:

    The display settings. The post you provided tells us the related registry keys, and you should try to find the right value since you want to custom it.
    In addtion, please refer to the following article to learn to deploy a registry item:

    LizMaddock,
    you can reset the input source to Spanish by selecting the Keyboard pane of System Preferences, selecting the Input Sources tab, and pressing the “+” button in the lower-left corner to select one of the Spanish input sources. The “Spanish – ISO” input source is most similar to the physical Spanish keyboard layout.

  • How to set default language for typing english if my OS language is russian?

    Hi.  I cant figure out how to set english as default typing language. Opening Skype, new browser window, vpn client, switches my input to russian (my os language). Especially this annoys if im trying to enter login and password.

    oleg.lestat wrote:But still when i setting cursor in Google Chrome addrese bar, or my vpn client password field it switches to russian
    Changeing language (e.g. to have english menues or keybord layout) on a system, took place in applications too only if the application supports that language, or uses by default the system librarys to adopt the language settings.
    Not all applications use automatically the system librarys of your Mac for language settings or spell checking. Most will do so, some only during installation, some never.
    Applications can have own language settings others have only the installation language available.
    Have you checked this on Chrome (Wrench -> Options -> Advanced -> Change Fonts and language settings -> Language -> Google Chrome language) and your VPN Client?

    Hi All,
    We use EP6.

  • ECC BUPA BDT: setting default CAM "Communication language"

    Hi,
    I thought I'd better ask for help before I'm starting to feel like I'm loosing sanity... My system is NW 702 SAPKB70211, IS-UT 605 SAPK-60508INISUT, all screens and behaviours from Transaction BP.
    I'm trying to set the defaults for Central Address Management (CAM) Communication language and country for Organizations and Groups (and Correspondence language for Persons). I've done the ISDAT BDT "Event" FM reccomended so often on SCN, setting the busdefault-country and busdefault-langu using  BUP_BUPA_FIELDVALUES_SET, and all seems well - the Address tab at least:
    - for Person:
    - for Org and Group:
    The trouble starts when one tries to create Adress from Address Overview of Org or Group - the default language is just not there, and neither is country:
    It turns out that, after defaults have been taken over in BUA_BUPA_PBO_BUA110 once, SAP standard resets (why, Hasso, why on earth would your guys need to do something like that.!?! ) the busdefault-langu if the BP type is other than Person (and telnr, faxnr_call, mc_city1, country, mc_street, post_code1, house_num1 for all types). In my desperation I even tried to use the SET/GET parameter SPR from FORM d0100_read_address of LSZA1O02. The trouble is - BUPA calls the thousand and one global flags CAM monstrocity so that g_address_is_optional is always set.
    So... before I start controlling what of their glabal data for BUPA defaults SAP logic can or can not modify via implicit inhancement in BUP_BUPA_FIELDVALUES_SET (if the logic is fine with taking those over once per session, why not n times...) does anyone know a straightforward and reliable way of defaulting CAM language and country (for organization and group)?
    I've searched OSS up and down but found nothing appliccable that would be helpful.
    Thank you and cheers
    Janis

    Ok, since the standard logic for BP default values is barely more than "useless" (defaults taken over only once, if the transaction mode for BP is create... meaning, they will not be taken over if you create an address in change mode of BP...), I ended up with:
    - implicit enhancement at the begin of BUP_BUPA_FIELDVALUES_SET protecting (SAPLBUD0)-gl_busdefault against overwriting via this FM (it obviously can't protect from changes within SAPLBUD0 itself... of which there are plenty);
    - implicit enhancement at the end of BUP_BUPA_FIELDVALUES_GET, delivering e_busdefault from the state protected within my singleton;
    - implicit enhancement at the beginning of ADDR_EXP_SUBSCREEN, setting the VALUE(SUGGESTED_VALUES) from busdefault state protected within my singleton for ADDRESS_GROUP 'BP' (I shouldn't really be changing input parameters inside the FM, I know, I know...) AND pushing the protected state back into (SAPLBUD0)-gl_busdefault via BUP_BUPA_FIELDVALUES_SET...
    The latter I needed to fight against standard logic loosing default country for Persons if one navigates to Address overview and deletes the standard address...
    The reason I'm going to such lengths to set this stuff programmatically rather than via SHD0 transaction variants or something similar... I don't want to have to find every transaction within ECC that permits to edit BP and create variants for them; I don't want to have to adjust those variants when something changes in dynpros.
    I'm thorougly fedup with BP and ECC and am ready for "R/4" (or whatever replaces it)
    cheers
    Janis
