Setting default universal save location

hello, i am setting up my own organizational system, including automation etc., and would like to have any document i create, download, etc. saved to the same folder. for speed, i would like to have this set as a preference or something similar so i don't have to navigate to this folder every time i save something.
can anyone tell me how to do this (*i do not want to use my user document folder for this, but will use a folder inside my user folder)?
i'm thinking there might be a preference i can change in the terminal, but don't know where to start looking . . . i can work fairly comfortable in the terminal.
i've seen things like Default Folder X, but don't want to use a separate application; i would rather have this set via a preference and use condensed save dialogs.
any help appreciated!

Hi Praveen,
Based on my test, the solution in the link your post  works in SSMS of SQL Server 2005, 2008 and 2008 R2 version. However, in SQL Server 2012, the configuration of SSMS is changed.

  • Default query save location in SSMS 2012

So, finally, is there a way to change SSMS 2012 default query save location?
    Scenario:
    1. Open SSMS
    2. Create new query
    3. Click Save
I see "Documents\SQL Server Management Studio" folder, but I want to change it to be "d:\". How do I do this?
    I tried:
    1. http://visualstudiohacks.com/options/changing-the-my-projects-folder-location-and-other-settings-in-ssms/ - in folder "Documents\SQL Server Management Studio\Settings\SQL Server Management Studio\" there is a file NewSettings.vssettings,
setting it to "d:\" or "d:\\" didn't help.
    2. Changing HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft
SQL Server\100\Tools\Shell VisualStudioProjectsLocation didn't help too. There is no "Shell" under "110\Tools\"
Did I do something wrong, or is there another way?

  • Changing the default bookmarks save location

    Heya,
If i right-click a website and click "Bookmark this page". It brings up the bookmark panel with the default folder "Bookmarks Menu" is there any way i can change this default ?
"I dont mind if it goes deep into the firefox:config, system or regedit as i am mostly computer savie :)"

''Changing the default bookmarks save location:''
You would do better clicking on the bookmark star on the Location Bar.
You can install "Add Bookmark Here2" and probably make modifications in the options.

  • How to set default, rendered save directory please?

So every time I want to export (share) my movie to my PC, the default location is always "My Documents".
I have set all Scratch Disk locations for my preferred folder, not My Documents.
Is there a location where I can input a default "Share To" directory. It's a pain to navigate (Browse) through my PC every time to save to my preferred directory.
    Thanks for your time.
    Chris

The only way I have found to make the share directory stick is in a Quick Share preset. You get a chance to save the current export settings to a Quick Share preset just after the export has completed. On the panel where you see the green checkmark and "Save Completed," there is a "Save as Quick Share" button further down that you click to create a Quick Share.
The next time you want to export using those same settings, instead of going through all the steps, just use the Quick Share preset that you saved and your path should be ready to go.

  • How to set default PDF print locations to be same as source file

Is it possible to make the "Save to" location for files created using the Adobe PDF print driver to be the same location as the source file?
When I checked the prefs dialog box in the Adobe PDF print driver, the only setting I found was to make "PDF Output Folder" either the "My Documents" folder or "Prompt for PDF File Name." I wish there were a third option that said "Same as source file."
    -Danny

Hi Daniel,<br /><br />Yes, it is possible to do so.<br /><br />Here is the solution:<br /><br />1) Open the PDF.<br />2) File->Print<br />3) Click the Properties button available on Print Dialog Box.<br />4) Select the Adobe PDF Settings Tab and you will find static text "Adobe PDF Output Folder", Go for "Browse" button available against that and select your preferred location.<br />5) Now the drop down menu will display all the options i.e. "My Documents" , "Prompt for PDF File Name" and "<Your selected Option>".<br /><br />I hope this will help resolve your issue.<br /><br />Thanks,<br />Atul Agarwal<br />Adobe Systems

  • Tool Default Properties save location

    Problem:
Where does Adobe Reader X save "Tool Properties Setting" made for different "Drawing Markups"?
    Goal:
Deploy same "Tool Properties Setting" for multiple users in order to avoid that every user has to modify drawing markups default settigs manually.
See below tool properties setting for instance for a Text Box:

On Windows I believe all settings are stored in the registry.

Cinnamon uses muffin as it's Window Manager, a fork of Mutter for GNOME. I'd assume that you'd be looking at getting something for muffin to work or using something like SteveK suggested.

  • Save Location - Premiere Crashes

    Hi all,
Having a few issues getting started with PE 10.  I am trying to get PE 10 installed and working in our classrooms.  I get to the part where you want to create a new project and select the save location.  As soon as a user clicks on the 'Browse' button, we get an error and the application closes down.

Our home directories (My Documents) are network mapped drives.
I have tried the usual uninstall/reboot/install methods, each with the same problem.
Is there a config file/registry entry where I could set a default file save location?
Does anyone have any idea why it might be doing this?  Even better, someone with a fix would be great!
    Many thanks,
    Chris.

Has it to do with networked mapped drives?
    Not in my case. But,
Time consuming googling and much trial and error and irritations offered a working solution in this case.I suppose this is included the price and goes with the delivery.
It was on some thread on PRE version 8 or something, where on the same problem someone suggested to create a new account and start PRE.
Remarkably, among dozens of other well-meant, but not working solutions, this one worked:
    - Create a new account - any name (for safety's sake with administrative rights)
    - Logg off and log on with the new account
    - Start up PRE
    - Choose New Project
This time default location was not grayed out: it showed: C:\Users\newaccountname\AppData\roaming....
Moreover: clicking the browse button to save the project on a different directory or partition did not result in te 'serious error' message, as did before.
So I saved the project in a new created directory on a different partition and changed the drive-preferences also to this directory. (hoping the problem was solved when I log in with my original account).
    So:
    - create an new directory for the PRE project somewhere else (not in 'users')
    - browse to save the new project in this directory
    - change the preferences (edit>prefereneces>media+workdisk) so that all the locations refer to the directory of the newly created project (later to be changed if necessary)
    - close PRE
But the next step to log off, log in on my first original account and start up PRE again resulted in the same error as before.
However, the saved project of my newly created account was still there in the directory I saved it in (extension: .prel).
So I tried to open PRE by clicking on this file with the extension .prel. PRE opened with no problem.
    So:
    - log off and log in with the original account
    - search for the new project file (extension .prel) and open PRE by clicking on the new project file.
    Then I saved the project again in the same directory, started up PRE and choosed New Project. This time the default location was not grayed out;
it showed the directory from where I started up PRE with the file .prel. The browse button (to safe to a different location) worked.
Then I erased the newly created account completely, logged off and in and started PRE from startmenu>programs. No problems.
    Finally:
    - save the the project again and close PRE
    - erase the newly created account(with account managament + manually delete directory \users\newaccountname
    - log off and log in on the original account
    - open PRE from startmenu>programs
It is hardly to imagine, since this problem exists since PRE8 or earlier, this amateuristic way of installing PRE is part of the deal. Nor any solution has been suggested by Adobe since then, nor apparently taken into account in their new versions/updates.
    Disappointing.

  • Default size and location, dialog boxes

how can I set default size and location of dialog boxes? I have tried several things to no avail,
    thanks in advance

    1. You could create your own subclass of Dialog/JDialog with your defaults set automatically
    2. You could create a DialogFactory that creates Dialogs (pretty much the same as 1)

  • Set Default Save Location for All Programs

What I need is a program that will set the default save folder (in all programs) to the same folder the current file came from.
If I do a "Save As" I want the folder in the Save dialog box to always be the folder the file is in.
This was brain-dead easy in OS 9 (General Control Panel, Save Location, Folder That is Set by the Application).
I cannot find a help file, a preference pane, an add-on program, anything to allow this.
If anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it.

    Hi,
Not sure if this is what you want but you might want to look at it
    http://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolderX/

  • Using Document Sets when I add Default PDF the save location is wrong.

Using Document sets you can add "Default Documents" to load when you use this function.  The file are stored in a separate document library, template location.
Once the user uses the function the file deploy and show in the right folder.  The problem is when someone edits a PDF form from the folder and then tries to save, the default save location is back to the template location.  I've lock
the document but it a pain for the user to have to thumb their way back to the right place to save.
Is this just a Adobe vs Microsoft fight?

  • SBS 2011 GPO for changing the default save location for Word/Excel 2013 not working

So this is a strange one. I've got an SBS 2011 server that's the only domain controller in the org. I've created a GPO to change the default save location for Excel 2013 and Word 2013 using the Office 2013 ADMX files which were installed to the PolicyDefinitions
    folder.
The GPO (U-Office2013 Default Save Location) only contains:
    1. User Configuration - Microsoft Excel 2013/Excel Options/Save - Default file location - Enabled - Z:\
    2. User Configuration - Microsoft Word 2013/Word Options/Advanced/File Locations - Default file location - Enabled - Z:\
The GPO is linked at the OU that contains my users for my SBS organization.
When I do a gpupdate /force on a windows 7 system with office2013 installed, and then run a gpresult/rsop, the policy appears to be applied successfully as it lists my GPO under the Applied GPOs list on the workstation:
    Applied GPOs
Default Domain Policy dyndns.local AD (24), Sysvol (24)
    U-Office2013 Default Save Location domain.local/SBSusers AD (6), Sysvol (6)
In the gpresult report, the applied settings appear under:
    Administrative Templates
    Extra Registry Settings
    software\policies\microsoft\office\15.0\excel\options\defaultpath Z:\ U-Office2013 Default Save Location
    software\policies\microsoft\office\15.0\word\options\doc-path Z:\ U-Office2013 Default Save Location
BUT, when I go to the workstation, and check office->options-Save-default file path, the path has not been changed to what the GPO is pushing.
The strange thing is that in my test environment running 2008R2 server and Win7 with Office 2013 and identical settings the default save location is applied and works as expected.
    Any ideas?
I've already tried re-installing the ADMX templates and re-created the GPO's several times.
I should also note that other GPO's on the SBS2011 server such as the folder redirection GPO work as expected on the same windows 7 system. It just appears to be an issue with the default save location in office2013 and other Office 2013 related GPOs which
utilize the recently added ADMX template that don't seem to be working for me.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Justin,
Thanks for your reply. I have tried several different user accounts (all have local admin privileges to the workstation) with the same issue. The default save path does not get applied from the GPO to any of the users i've tried. Here's the steps I took
    per your suggestion:
    1. log on as a user who has never logged onto the workstation before.
    2. run gpupdate /force (entered y for yes when prompted to log off).
    3. Log back in as the user and open Office and check the default save path. It has not been changed to match the GPO setting.
    4. Check rsop to see if the policy was applied. Rsop states the gpo was applied successfully.
I have attached the gpsvc.log file from a the session described above. The GPO Guid in question is: {DC3C93EC-7C28-48E9-BA38-FCA1E275A207}. Its common name is: U-Word 2013 Default Save Location. It's only setting is:

  • Changing default save location

In our student labs we need Appleworks to default to SAVE to the Student folder - NOT the documents folder. I cannot find any place to change that setting/preference/location. Lab computers are running Appleworks 6.2.9 and OS 10.4.8.
    Thanks, Monica

    Hello
You didn't find that because there is no such preference setting.
My own tip is to store blank document or templates in the student folder and ask to the app to save in the source folder.
May you attach the preference file named "com.apple.appleworks.plist" to a mail ans send it to:
koenig then a dot then yvan then an @ then tele2 then a dot then fr
I will be able to compare it to the one available on my machine which default to Desktop.

  • How to set default file location in Illustrator?

I'm using Creative Suite CS5 in Windows Pro 64, and would like to set a default location for files in Illustrator and Photoshop when I execute the File > Open or File > Save commands.
Yes, the program defaults to the location of the last file opened, but sometimes that file is gone, or I'm creating a new one from scratch, and the program looks for files in a distant place in my file structure.
** Is it possible to set a default file location for opening and saving in Illustrator CS5 (and in Photoshop CS5)?
    Thanks.

Not that I know of. It simply reverts to the global "My Documents"/ "Documents" folder as provided by your operating system. these can of course be changed using variables and editing the Windows Registry/ Group Policies, but that affects all programs...

  • How to set default file path for save

    Hello all,
I'm currently blocked on the below issue and is hoping to gain your help and insights.
We have recently upgraded to InDesign CS6. Now when an INDD file created in an older version of INDD is opened in CS6, all the save dialogs would not default to the location of the original INDD file. Though if the same file is opened in the version of InDesign that created it, the save dialog goes to the proper location by default.
Debugged using our custom plugin as a gate way, and found out that after InDesign CS6 performed the document upgrade/convert, the database for the converted document loses file information. i.e.  IDataBase::GetSysFile() returns nil. I think we can figure out some way to get the original file path. For example, we can intercept "kAfterOpenDocSignalResponderService", and get the original file path of the opened file from IDocumentSignalData. Though I haven't yet able to figure out a safe way to set this file path to the document, so that the save dialogs would by default point at this path.
Utils<Facade::IWorkgroupFacade>()->InitDocumentAssetManagement(docRef, filePath) seems to do the right thing, but it seems to be quite intruding, and I'm afraid that it is overkilling and will cause bad side effect for the use case I'm looking for.
So I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions to achieve this without implementing/overriding the file save dialog.
    Thanks.

You should be able to avoid writing your own open-doc trap by using kDocBoss's IOpenedFileInfo to obtain the original file's path. It seems fairly reliable; the only time I've seen it come up empty is for an opened QuarkXPress document.
I'm afraid I don't know of a sanctioned way to change IDataBase::GetSysFile() without going through the database's SaveAs machinery. Overriding this behavior might only be possible by replacing the regular Save dialog with your own.
But if InitDocumentAssetManagement() is helping, maybe the workgroup/asset management approach is worth pursuing. Have you tried spying on that call in the debug app? You might be able to isolate and use one of the commands that it's invoking (IAMSPManager::BindAsset() / kSetAssetAttributesCmdBoss?) without all of the side-effects of the higher-level call.
