Setting default volume level for Java Desktop

Hello,
I am running Sol 10 11/06 for sparc. How do I permanently set the default volume level for the Java desktop? If I change the volume manually and "save settings" on logoff, the saved setting is not saved after a reboot, after which I have to set it again.
Thank you......

Annoying, isn't it?
Unfortunately the only thing you can do is lower your system volume before opening those pages. The volume could be controlled by the Web page author but most are clueless.

  • Setting default volume level.

I have a 2nd Gen Nano which I am using in my car. I have an OEM adapter which connects to the iPod through the dock adapter and allows the car's stereo controls to operate the iPod. (The stereo thinks it's a really big CD changer.)
My problem is that the sound level from the iPod is significantly lower than that from either the radio or the actual CD changer, so when I have finished listening to the iPod I have to be careful and remember to crank the volume way down or else the radio blasts when I select a different source.
Looking at the iPod I have made sure that the volume limit is set to maximum, and I am confident that I don't have a EU crippled unit since the sound level through the earbuds is plenty loud even at half volume and keeps going up from there.
The thing is that when it first wakes up the volume level is always set to 50% on the slider. I cannot manually change the volume level when connected to the car because when it's connected to the adapter the iPod's controls don't work (besides it is mounted in a fairly inaccessible location), but I don't even know if doing so would help since it communicates with the stereo through the dock connector.
My question is: Does the iPod's volume control have any effect on the signal level out through the dock connector, and if so is there a way to permanently adjust the default volume level the unit uses when it starts up? What I'd like to do is set the default volume level on the iPod to, say, 75% or whatever will balance it with the other source input levels that the car stereo uses. I tried adjusting the volume manually and then sliding the lock switch to 'Lock' but it didn't work.
    Thanks in advance.

This sounds like the problem that I'm experiencing and <a href-"http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2694517#2694517">aske d about a couple of days ago. The sound level resets to 50% after shutdown.
I tried setting the levels in Audio MIDI Set Up as suggested above, but that hasn't changed anything.
In answer to B_web, I am running my external speakers through the headphone jack.
    So, any other suggestions?

  • How to set default audio device for java apps on Linux?

I would like to find a way to choose a particular (ALSA) audio device for java applications. How can this be done without reprogramming the application or changing the default ALSA device? I came across "sound.properties", but could not find any information how to use this file on an ALSA system.
    Thanks for any help, Mark

We can't satisfy everyone. What you want is a corner case. For most people ALSA and dmix works appropriately, and that is what esd uses by default. We cannot document and automate every configuration possible. That's up to the users.
However, if you don't want to restart gnome, try the below... I make a few assumptions, but even if they're wrong, they're hardly difficult to work around.
Just copy the /etc/esd.conf to ~/.esd.conf, make your change, then do killall esd. Presumably gnome will restart esd, and it ought to read your local config. If it doesnt, start it yourself.
Feel free to write a script that automates this, or document it on the wiki.
I have to restart Gnome to get this thing working. Other OSes *automatically* can use an alternative device. But if I change ESD, I will have to restart Gnome, no?
Well, if you try my suggestion above, no. You can restart esd yourself. And that's what all the other distros do, except with some fancy GUI.

  • Setting default zoom level for creating bookmarks

I am creating a PDF file in a couple of steps.  The main text is created from Word, which gives me bookmarks automatically set to "Inherit Zoom."  I also create subsets of tables and figures by "combining files in Acrobat" from Windows Explorer.  That step creates bookmarks automatically that are set to "Fit Width."  I then add the pages from the tables and figures into the PDF created from the Word document.  The bookmarks come in the proper location, but the zoom level stays "Fit Width."  I'd like it to be either "Inherit Zoom" or "Fit Page."  Is there a way to set the default zoom for bookmark creation so I don't have to manually change each bookmark?

It seems like the DVT by default zooms to fit the available real estate. But is it possible to set a fixed zoom level (say 75%) even if the node does have 100% zoom level. We would like to show the 100% zoom level only on hover to the node. But by default, wanted to to set the viewer to always show 75% or 50% zoom level.

  • Want to set a default zoom level for safari?  Here's how you do it.

If you like to set a default zoom level for safari so you don't have to hit Ctrl+ (or Ctrl-) every time you start Safari and open a new tab, here's how you can do that. This should work on Safari for mac, too:
    1) create a file named defaultzoom.css (or any name you like, just make sure it has a css extension.)
    2) copy and paste in the following:
    body {
    zoom: 130%;
change 130 to whatever number suits you. >100 means zoom in, <100 means zoom out. Don't forget the % percent sign!
    3) in safari, go to Preferences > Advanced. Under style sheet, select Other... and point to the file you created.
    4) you may need to restart safari for the change to take effect.
    Voila. Hope that helps someone.

    Yes you are right!
This CSS zooming is a crude hack. I think it basically treats a web page like a pdf document where you just enlarges everything.
When you zoom manually, safari does a smarter sort of zoom where it enlarges but tries to keep widths of the elements the same size, reflowing text where needed and scrolling only when necessary.
If the web page has a fixed size that is smaller than your browser window, like this forum, css zoom works ok. But with a page like gmail, which has no width constraint, you get into trouble.
Hmm, wait, I just checked out wiki, which also uses up all available screen real estate, but does NOT have this problem.
Notice in gmail, even if you zoom way out below what should be 100%, the login is still off the screen. The font gets real small but the width of the page stays the same. The css zoom basically "sticks" and isn't completely reversible.
Bottom line: you have to decide which is more annoying: having to hit Ctrl+ for every tab you open, or running into some problematic pages.
On Windows, I use autohotkey (a kdb and mouse macro scripting program) to switch off the CSS on the fly when I need to. I think Mac has similar capability built in, right? If I were really clever, I guess I could program autohotkey to send a few ctrl+ whenever it detects a new window or tab in safari, but I'm not there yet.
Bottom bottom line: Apple needs to add this feature. It's a pretty basic accessibility feature. Doesn't Apple have like an accessibility guru/advocate?

  • Default Privilege Level for ASA users authenticated by Radius or TACACS when using ASDM

    Hello,
I'm trying to figure out what the default privilege level is for users that are authenticated to the ASA via a remote authentication server when using the ASDM.
the command "aaa authentication http console TACACS+ LOCAL" is used in the ASA config.
The remote server is NOT setting any privilege levels for users.  There are also no aaa authorization commands present in the config.
So what privilege level do the users receive when they login with the ASDM?  I'm being told that the users receive admin access which includes config write, reboot, and debug.  But I cannot find any documentation stating hte default level.
Please advise.  And providing links to cisco documentation would be great too.
    Thanks,
    Brendan

    Hi Berendan,
Hope the below exerpt from document clarifies your query. also i have provided the link to refer.
    About Authorization
Authorization controls access per user after users authenticate. You can configure the security appliance to authorize the following items:
    •Management commands
    •Network access
    •VPN access
Authorization controls the services and commands available to each authenticated user. Were you not to enable authorization, authentication alone would provide the same access to services for all authenticated users.
If you need the control that authorization provides, you can configure a broad authentication rule, and then have a detailed authorization configuration. For example, you authenticate inside users who attempt to access any server on the outside network and then limit the outside servers that a particular user can access using authorization.
The security appliance caches the first 16 authorization requests per user, so if the user accesses the same services during the current authentication session, the security appliance does not resend the request to the authorization server.

  • Can i change the volume level for just a part of a track?

i am trying to raise the volume level for just a little section of a track without raising the volume for the whole track, just a one little section. can i do that on garage band? how would it do that?

    Yes you can
On the track instrument selector, there is a row of small buttons, one being an upside down triangle. Click the triangle to display Automation. The default controller is Track Volume. You will see a bright green line which is the volume level throughout the track..
Simply, go to the location where you want to reduce the volume, click on the green line to insert a control point. The first click is used the maintain the current volume. Go to the point where you want the volume to be reduce to, and click-and-hold the line and drag the new control point to the target volume.
NOTE: Use the Shift key to adjust incremental amounts.
    Have fun!!

  • Set default grid artwork for composer grid view

As the title I wanted to know if there is a way to set default grid artwork for composer grid view.
    Thanks.

Nope. It is the first image from the first track of the first album that has artwork. As you move your pointer over the icon you will get any other images assoicated with that composer.

  • Where can I set the log level for the "Inbox log file" ?

From the Siebel 8 Bookshelf, it says :
"To set the level of the Inbox log file for troubleshooting
*In Siebel Tools, set the Log Level for the Inbox log file (Alias = InboxLog) to 5*."
But where exactly in Siebel Tools can I find that Log Level ? Which object does the Siebel bookshelf talk about ?

    Hi,
Loglevels are not configured in Siebel Tools. You have to configure them with the siebel client. You can find a parameter at "Administration - Server Configuration / Server / Events"
Search for "Inbox General Log Events". Set this parameter to 5. It think this should help you.

OTOH, it this is an app. with a GUI, it is easier to launch it using webstart, and request extra memory in the JNLP descriptor (the webstart launch file).

  • Hi, with mix16 pro app, can anyone tell me when you set different audio levels for different tracks, does the app remember the level set the next time you use it?  Or does it default to the original setting when you power down after a show?  Thanks!

    Hi
I use backing tracks for some songs with a live band and we are having some issues with levels.  Some are higher than others etc.  I use i pad to run the tracks.  I am looking for an app that where I can control the levels better.  Ideally, an app where I can set the level of each track to a desired level and leave it at that level for good.  Mix16 Pro  seems to do that but I wonder does it save the setting as I do not want to set the levels every time I use it.

  • Is there a way to set new default heap size for Java?

    Hi,
I have a problem with setting global heap size for installed version of Java. By global I mean that every program that will be run using that version of Java, will be using that amount of memory. for heap. I know that I can use Xmx and Xms for each program that I start, but I don't want to do this. I just want to set some kind of property for installed version of Java.

Launch Firefox and set the web page as wide as you want by dragging the hash marks at the lower right corner. Center the page on your screen where you want it. Then quit Firefox. launch Firefox again. The page should be just where on the screen and sized as you set it prior to quitting.

  • Setting individual volume levels per song

If i set my song volume levels individually through itunes. When i transfer them to my iphone will they be set at that level?
Also if the songs are already on my iphone and i change each a volume level on one particular song through itunes. When i plug in my iphone to itunes will itunes recognize that i have changed that songs volume level and correct it on my iphone?

    1. Yes. Sound Check is supposed to do as you suggest, but it mangles the sound sometimes. I avoid it for this reason.
    2. Yes. Usually the tracks for a given album are balanced well against each other. If, for example, you know a particular album is quiet, you can select all tracks in the album and boost their volume.
I'm sure iVolume works well for lots of people. My experience wasn't good. I used iVolume over two years ago and it didn't work with my protected music bought from the iTunes Store. I used iVolume's recommended setting at the time (can't remember what it was), and it made everything much more quiet than the protected music. Perhaps its algorithm or default is better now. If you use it, test it on a few tracks and then play them next to your protected tracks...
