Setting Directory for utl_file

Hi,
We've just installed Oracle 11g on our server, and I'm having trouble determining what the directory name should be so that I can read it. I have tried:
\users\mhoward\temp\
\\servername\users\howardm\temp
s:\servername\users\howard\temp
What I'm doing on the server side is signing on as sys, and doing
create or replace directory tempdir as 'c:\temp';
grant read on directory tempdir to username;
Then I look over at SQL Developer, and I do find the tempdir listed.
Then I attempt to run a program. Here's my program:
create or replace
PROCEDURE proc_load1
IS
user_name VARCHAR2(30) := user;
fhandler utl_file.file_type;
buf varchar2(4000);
BEGIN
fhandler := utl_file.fopen('tempdir','oracletest.txt','R');
utl_file.fclose(fhandler);
exception
when utl_file.invalid_path then
raise_application_error(-20000, 'Invalid path');
end;
But, I keep getting invalid path!
Would someone please tell me what I need to put in as the directory path for Windows on the server? I would like to point it to s:\users\howardm\temp, but I'm not sure how to do that.
-Mary

YES! My system administrator gave me access rights to the directory that Oracle was loaded on. I have create an alias called TEMPDIR that points to this, and was able to get it to work in my program:
Signed on as SYS as SYSDBA:
create or replace directory tempdir as 'D:\app\Administrator\product\11.1.0\temp';
grant read,write on directory tempdir to user;
In SQL Developer signed on as user:
create or replace
PROCEDURE proc_load1
IS
user_name VARCHAR2(30) := user;
fhandler utl_file.file_type;
buf varchar2(4000);
BEGIN
fhandler := utl_file.fopen('TEMPDIR','oracletest.txt','R');
utl_file.get_line(fhandler,buf);
dbms_output.put_line('Data from File:' || buf);
utl_file.fclose(fhandler);
exception
when utl_file.invalid_path then
raise_application_error(-20000, 'Invalid path');
end;
I noticed that even though I created it in lower case, it required it in upper case in the program to work.
Thank you so much!

  • How to set directory for preview files?

    I have my Media Cache folders set to an external hard drive, but Premiere Pro still continues to create hundreds of rendered preview files in the default location of Users/username/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Pro/8.0/Adobe Premiere Preview Files, filling up my main disk and then crashing when it gets full. Is the preview file folder a separate setting somewhere?
    Mac Pro 5,1, OSX 10.9.4

    I am having a problem with this as well since installing 8.0. PP 7.2.2 and previous versions did not have this issue.
    When I set the Media Cache preferences to store all cache on an external hard drive it will in fact do so with the exception of IMS files which it still puts in the default of C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Media Cache Files.

  • Illustrator needs a Relative mode switch or ability to set a Working directory for each AI file!

    Hi guys,
    I thought I would post in here because I find I'm wanting this feature more and more over the past year.
    This can apply to most of Adobes application but it would be great to see some file management functionality built into the applications themselves. This could then be further expanded in Bridge/Cue to incorporate more applications into the working project but at the very least the application itself the ability to control its own root existence.
    On so many occasions I require Illustrators file linking feature to be relative and NOT absolute which it currently is. The only relative capability it has is if ALL the linked assets are in the same local directory as the AI file itself and this as everyone knows breaks the first rule of proper file management.
    Many of the projects I work on uses many AI files with sometimes over 50 linked in assets in a variety of different formats from a variety of different clients (locations). I cannot easily move this project folder around without the painful task of linking all the data again and this creates a massive issue.
    Ideally an approach similar to Autodesks Maya and Max where you can set project directories. This means all the Save As and other operations will default to that working directory for that file. All linked data will then use the projects working directory as its root and allow the project to move from location to location and not be affected.
    This would Im sure benefit many other designers who work on projects with large amounts of data that may not live always in the same spot. For us we work with so many different people during a production that mobility is a must and at the moment we are finding it very difficult.
    As always, thanks for reading.
    Cheers
    Nick.

    Hello,
    First command
    So what does the wiki meen by: "DEVPATH sets the physical device. You can determine this by executing the command
    readlink -f /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon-device/device | sed -e 's/^\/sys\///'"
    Physical device of what, and what output am I suppose to get: Nothing, a list with output on where the symlinks lead, something else... In my case I got no output, if that is right, I do not know - since I do not understand what the command do.
    Seccond comand
    DEVNAME: Sets the name of the device. Try:
    sed -e 's/[[:space:]=]/_/g' /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon-device/device/name
    Does it meen like this - If I during my pwmconfig used hwmon1 wich was coretemp, and hwmon2 wich was nct6775, I should do:
    sed -e 's/[[:space:]=]/_/g' /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon1-device/device/name coretemp
    sed -e 's/[[:space:]=]/_/g' /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon2-device/device/name nct6775
    And that will direct every occurrence of hwmon1 and hwmon2 to the correct sensor chip?

  • Dynamic Configuration - Set Directory Path for File Receiver Adapter

    Hi Experts,
    I have a question regarding the dynamic configuration for the file adapter. Is it possible to set a directory path without a message mapping for the file receiver adapter? the problem is that I want to import a pdf document. this pdf document I want to store in a dynamic directory (depending on the filename). so I have to read the filename out of the dynamic configuration and generate (depending on the filename) a directory for this file. Is that possible without a message mapping? I cannot make a message mapping because the file has the pdf format and should not get changed.
    best regards
    Christopher Kühn

    Hi Gaurav,
    I use the ASMA (respectively the filename) for the sender adapter. After the pdf was imported into XI this filename is in the ASMA.
    But what then??? How can I get this filename with the help of the variable substitution? and if I have this filename I have to change this filename a bit to generate the name / path of the directory.
    Please explain it to me detailled
    Thanks and regards

  • How to set default directory for SQL LOADER

    hi all,
    i wanted to know how can we setup a default directory for SQL LOADER if at all we can. i connot place my control and data files in local system and use them at command prompt. rather i wanted to know if we can set default directory that the loader can use. this requirement is basically to enable all the clients to upload the data placed on the server and use the loader utility.
    thanks in advance,
    Basavraj

    Ella,
    You don't say which version of SQL Developer you are using via Citrix, but just setting the SQLDEVELOPER_USER_DIR hasn't worked for a long time (see Re: SQLDEVELOPER_USER_DIR does not function anymore). Also, since version 1.5, the default for the user directory (now set via ide.user.dir as shown below) is under the user profile area (relative to %APPDATA%), which you should be able to write to, even on Citrix.
    Assuming that neither of those help, you will need to get whoever installed SQL Developer on the Citrix C: drive to modify the sqldeveloper.conf to have a line like, where the path exists for everyone who will be using the shared SQL Developer (assumes everyone has a H: drive):
    AddVMOption -Dide.user.dir=H:\sqldeveloperAn alternative (depending on how you start SQL Developer via Citrix), is to create your own shortcut to start SQL Developer with something like:
    sqldeveloper -J-Dide.user.dir="%SQLDEVELOPER_USER_DIR%"theFurryOne

  • How to set a root directory for file management in web application

    Is it possible to set a default root directory for file management for a web application ?
    We would upload some files and store them in the web server.
    When we write the uploaded files without any path, the files are written in the config directory into the jdeveloper embedded oc4j directory.
    When we write the uploaded with a relative path ("/somedir/filename"), the files are written in C:/somedir/filename.
    We would like that all file management with relative path into the web application refer automatically to a given root directory (for example defined in web.xml).
    Is it possible ?

    I'm using the standard upload in adf faces.
    The problem is not during upload. This is managed in a temporay directory defined in web.xml. The problem is for writing the file that was uploaded (upload give us an inputStream we have to write somewhere, eventually after unzipping).
    Here is an example of our current code.
    if (mimeType.equals("application/x-zip-compressed") |
    mimeType.equals("application/zip")) {
    File destZipFile =
    new File(rootDirectory + "/" + parametersDirectory +
    "/" + uploadedFile.getFilename());
    BufferedInputStream isZipFile =
    new BufferedInputStream(uploadedFile.getInputStream());
    FileOutputStream fosZipFile =
    new FileOutputStream(destZipFile);
    BufferedOutputStream bosZipFile =
    new BufferedOutputStream(fosZipFile, BUFFER);
    // read and write until last byte is encountered
    while ((currentByte = isZipFile.read(data, 0, BUFFER)) !=
    -1) {
    bosZipFile.write(data, 0, currentByte);
    }

    Hi,
    your rep_srv.conf should look like something like
    +<?xml version = '1.0' encoding = 'ISO-8859-1'?>+
    +<!DOCTYPE server PUBLIC "-//Oracle Corp.//DTD Reports Server Configuration //EN" "file:D:\oracle\FRHome_1/reports/dtd/rwserverconf.dtd">+

    +</cache>+
    +<engine id="rwEng" class="oracle.reports.engine.EngineImpl" initEngine="1" maxEngine="3" minEngine="0" engLife="50" maxIdle="30" callbackTimeOut="90000" jvmOptions="-Xmx512M -Xss512K">+

    +<!--property name="tempDir" value="your reports temp directory"/-->+
    +<!--property name="keepConnection" value="yes"/-->+
    +</engine>+
    +...+
    some more definitions
    +..+
    +<!--pluginParam name="proxy" type="file">proxyinfo.xml</pluginParam-->+
    +<pluginParam name="xmlpds" type="file">xmlpds.conf</pluginParam>+

    *+</environment>+*
    *+<environment id="APP2">+*
    *+<envVariable name="REPORTS_PATH" value="/application2/reports"/>+*
    +</environment>+
    +</server>+
    The environment ids you can choose yourself and you have to put them in there yourself too (here I put two environments for two different applications "1" and "2").
    If you call a report from Forms, then you have to code something like
    ADD_PARAMETER(p_list,'ENVID',TEXT_PARAMETER,'APP1');
    Details depend on how you call your reports, my example is for using a parameter list and calling a report out of application1
    Hope that helps.

    I am using the absolute path now but am finding that the length of DESNAME is to long.
    eg -
    DESNAME - D:\yamba\reports\SERIALS\mb0332.pf - works
    DESNAME - D:\yamba\reports\SERIALS\mb0332.pdf - doesnt work

  • [RESOLVED] Unable to move dev directory for Apache, keep getting 403

    Hello,
    I'd like to move my default /srv/http directory for my PHP pages to a different location (somewhere in my home directory) for convenience.  This is exclusively for local development.  However, after making the same change in two places, I restarted Apache and keep getting a 403 error.
    Here is my httpd.conf:
    # This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file. It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2> for detailed information.
    # In particular, see
    # <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.2/mod/directives.html>
    # for a discussion of each configuration directive.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do *not* begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so 'log/access_log'
    # with ServerRoot set to '/www' will be interpreted by the
    # server as '/www/log/access_log', where as '/log/access_log' will be
    # interpreted as '/log/access_log'.
    # ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
    # configuration, error, and log files are kept.
    # Do not add a slash at the end of the directory path. If you point
    # ServerRoot at a non-local disk, be sure to point the LockFile directive
    # at a local disk. If you wish to share the same ServerRoot for multiple
    # httpd daemons, you will need to change at least LockFile and PidFile.

    You're right.  I can't get there.
    I tried to make Apache start up as me (my user), but got an error that said that it cannot start it up like that.  I think I have a possible solution for the given problem.  I'll my user to the http group and then work from /srv/http.
    I'd love to get some feedback if someone has a different approach .  I love to learn from the experience of others .

  • Single Student home directory for Multiple users

    Hi all,
    I'm currently working in an education environment and we have 4x labs of mac's. Currently, when students log in, their login info/permissions are pulled from AD and OD. When they login for the first time, it creates a local home directory with their username, so when they login subsequent times they still get all their saved movies, music and pictures. Nothing special.
    We are aiming to change over to a new system in which the students login with thier username/pass, but they all use the same local home directory called 'student' (which will actually be refreshing with the default-homedir-refresh script by Bombich). To compliment this, as they will not be able to use thier movies folder, we will have a seperate partition on the computer in which they save all thier work. Idealy, we would like the files that one user saves not to be accessable (deleted) by another student, but i'm not sure if this is possible even though they have logged in using different username/passwords, as they are all using the same directory. To add to this, the users will also have thier network space mounted on login (as its on a novell server, currently we mount it by specifying the address in WGM under preferences->login items, with Mount item with user's name and password checked).
    My questions are
    1) how do we get the students to use the single 'student' home directory?
    2) If we have a separate partition set up for them, will the files they create have the permissions assigned to the individual users or will they all be able to access each others file as they will use the single 'student' home directory.
    3) Will our method of mounting their Novell drive still work with the new system?

    I can't help asking: Why?
    Might help if we knew exactly what sort of issues you are trying to avoid, since you're moving away from what appears to be a perfectly functional setup

  • Write access to a directory for ASP 2.0 application stops working on Windows 2012 Standard Cloud Server

    Just moved our ASP 2.0 based web application to a Windows 2012 Standard Cloud Server.  A directory is used for temporary copying of files for the application.  The Read Write access is properly given and everything works but then stops working
    in about 2.5 hours.  The settings are still there, to make things work again typically I add "Everyone" to the security list and apply and then 3 hours later I remove "Everyone" and this refreshes the security setting and things work
    againg for a couple of hours.  Last Cloud server was 2008 R2 and we had no issues.  Recently moved to this new cloud server.  Code has been functioning fine for years and can not migrate it to newer ASP since will have to make quite a few code
    changes.  Obviously a bug which needs to be addressed.  Again the security settings do not disappear but are no longer handled properly every 3 hours or so.

    Hi,
    Is there any other files have the same issue? Please create a test folder and give the same permissions with the directory for ASP 2.0 application to see if the issue still exists.

    Hello Matthew,
    You should also change your temp directory to something woth no spaces, something like C:\temp.
    Sapisnt sometimes has problems with the spaces in the temp path, and the Universal Installer nearly always
    has a problem with this.

  • One PI set up for all the outbound interfaces

    Hello Friends,
    We have set of interfaces from SAP to 3rd party using PI system. We will not do any mapping for any interface in PI
    We will receive the IDocs ( Orders , deliveries , shipping and alll ) from SAP  and send it to 3rd party.
    is there any way to send these IDoc's with only set up in PI ... only one repository and directory for all the messages )
    Thanks

    Hi
    One way could be that on save of each transaction or event, an xml file is created which can be passed to the receiver.

  • Cannot set "'Directory'" (DynamicConfiguration UDF)

    Experts,
    in my scenario a generic interface (Proxy2Fille) is used, in which file receiver output FileName and Directory are being determined at runtime. this was implemented using udf at graphical message mapping phase. somehow, i am able to put "FileName" but can not put "Directory", I'm using 2 similar udf.
    setting Directory udf code:
    DynamicConfiguration conf = (DynamicConfiguration) container.getTransformationParameters().get(StreamTransformationConstants.DYNAMIC_CONFIGURATION);
    DynamicConfigurationKey FileDir = DynamicConfigurationKey.create("http:/"+"/sap.com/xi/XI/System/File";,"'Directory'");
    conf.put(FileDir, Dir);
    when interface is being executed, i can see (sxmb_moni --> SOAP:Header) the udf were running and (as far as i get) that FileName and Directory parameters were successfully chased during the mapping phase.
    i.e., :
    SAP:DynamicConfiguration..
    <SAP:Record namespace="http://sap.com/xi/XI/System/File" name="'Directory'">/rkv-erp/Int/XID</SAP:Record>
    yet, I'm getting the following error (RWB-Comunication Channel Monitoring):
    Message processing failed. Cause: com.sap.engine.interfaces.messaging.api.exception.MessagingException: com.sap.aii.adapter.file.configuration.DynamicConfigurationException: The Adapter Message Property 'Directory' was configured as mandatory element, but was not supplied in the XI Message header
    and obviusly, writing fails.
    what am i missing?
    Regards,
    Uri

    Hi,
    10x for your replay.
    both FileName and Directory are checked. I'm getting the recieved error (...The Adapter Message Property 'Directory' was configured as mandatory element...) since "Directory" is checked. in some of my tests, when i manipulate only FileName, everything went fine.
    Any other hint?
    Regards,
    Uri
