Setting EJB JNDI name

Hi all !
I have one EJB application which needs to be run in two different containers (GlassFish
and Weblogic)
One issue I have faced is the JNDI binding. When I deploy my EJB, the jndiBinding of @RemoteBinding
is not used:
@Stateless
@RemoteBinding(jndiBinding="UserManagerEJB/remote")
public class UserManagerBean implements UserManagerEJB{
rather the EJB is bound at JAR_NAME_jarUserManagerBean_UserManagerEJB
is it possible to bind the EJB at "UserManagerEJB/remote" so that it's portable between the two App. servers?
thanks
Frank

I could not find RemoteBinding in the following doc :-
Link :[http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12840_01/wls/docs103/ejb30/annotations.html]
I wonder whether this would work. I am not sure whether this is implemented.

  • How to Set the JNDI name in J2EE 1.4 ??

    Hello,
    I am sure i am have done everything right except for the JNDI name ! I have recently shifted to J2EE 1.4. I was using j2EE 1.2.
    So kindly tell me how should i set me JNDI name in the deploytool.
    Here is the exception i got when i tried to run my application without having set any JNDI name !!

    Thanks.

    There are 2 types of descriptors:
    standard and portable deployment descriptors (e.g. ejb-jar.xml, web.xml, application.xml, etc)
    vendor specific deployment plan (e.g., sun-ejb-jar.xml, sun-web.xml, sun-application.xml, jboss.xml, weblogic.xml, etc)
    When you are developing ejb apps with glassfish, or JavaEE SDK, or Sun Java System Application Server, you usually package all descriptors in META-INF directory inside the jar.
    You can also create portable apps that do not contain any vendor specific deployment plans. So you can deploy it to any appserver. At deployment time, you then specify an option to pass the deployment plan to deploy tool. This is required by JSR 88 and all J2EE- or JavaEE-compliant appserver must support this.
    In Glassfish, JavaEE SDK, or SJSAS, you can:
    $SJSAS_HOME/bin/asadmin deploy --deploymentplan /tmp/deploy-plan.jar /tmp/my-ejb.jar
    where /tmp/deploy-plan.jar is a jar file containing sun-ejb-jar.xml for the deployable ejb-jar:
    jar tvf deployment-plan.jar
    0 Thu Oct 12 11:55:00 EDT 2006 META-INF/
    106 Thu Oct 12 11:54:58 EDT 2006 META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
    570 Thu Oct 12 11:55:00 EDT 2006 sun-ejb-jar.xml

  • A prefix can be included in the EJB JNDI name dynamically?

    In the Stateless annotation, we can specify the mappedName attribute to the EJB JNDI name bind.
    Can we specify a prefix to the mappedName separately?
    For example: We have this:
    @Stateless(mappedName="myEJB")And don't want to do this:
    @Stateless(mappedName="prefix/myEJB")We want to include the prefix in another place in the code dynamically.
    Can we do that??

    Hello! Thanks for reply!
    As I can't configure programatically, there is any way to configure in an application descriptor, or in another place of the application server?
    The idea is to publish two applications that use the same EJB classes, but in different JNDI namespaces, because we don't want to share the resources. Otherwise, it will result in JNDI name conflicts. The applications works in different contexts and we want to reuse the existing EJB definitions.
    Any suggestion?yes you can do this. ejb 3.0 keeps the features from 2.1, namely all the xml based configuration (although it is now optional). and, the annotations are always overriden by the xml configuration. thus, you can create different deployments with different the same compiled class files. you just need to override the annotation configuration with xml configuration (via ejb-jar.xml or whatever).Yes, we can do that. I've tested here, and it works. But, can we do better?
    The configuration via XML implies maintenance, and it's not good, because we have so many EJBs to maintain.
    And there is another problem... The EJB classes are in JARs, and these JARs are shared across the applications.
    Pretend that you have to maintain two versions of each EJB JAR. One with XML configured and other without. If we change one, the another must be changed too. How can it be productive?
    I have seen some EJB implementations that are more flexible with JNDI naming.
    See:

    Does it have a better solution in Glassfish?

  • Default ejb JNDI name in websphere ear

    Hi,
    I am using ejb2.0-2.1 in websphere 6.0 WAS.
    I have a local entity ejb.
    I wish to define a service locator for this as a singleton class that caches the entity bean's home after doing a JNDI lookup.
    I am interested in two things.
    1) Since my service locator is a simple singleton class I want it to lookup the local ejb homes using the JNDI names supplied in the websphere specific deployment descriptors correspondiing to ejb-jar.xml. (No point in even thinking of any ejb-local-ref) My service locator is defined inside the same ejb jar.
    2) Ideally I would like to not specify any explicit JNDI names in any websphere specific DD for the local ejb homes. I would like to use a JNDI name based on the ejb-name itself.
    I have been able to do 2) using JBoss.
    Thanks.

  • Session EJB JNDI name

    Hello all!
    I created this SLSB:
    @Local
    public interface CatalogServiceLocal {
         public float getCatalogVersion();
    @Stateless(name="CatalogService")
    public class CatalogService implements CatalogServiceLocal {
    I'm using JSF and I want to access my SLSB from a Managed Bean but the server always complains it didn't find the given name:
    this.catalogService = (CatalogServiceLocal) ctx.lookup(JNDI_NAME);
    I tried a lot of different names (CatalogService, ejb.CatalogService...). How can I know the correct name for the lookup. I searched for it in the admin console but I didn't find it either.
    Thank you very much!

  • Specify JNDI Name For EJB Module

    Hi folks, please I need to know how I can specify the Jndi name for an ejb module I am creating in netbeans 5.0, to be accessed by a web application.
    If this can be done using the sun java system application server 9 admin consle (just as for JDBC Resources), i'll also like to know how.
    Thanks.

    Thanks Jay. I went through the links, it seems that if you have the JNDI name set in the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml, there is no need to set the same in the weblogic admin console. I am using ejb 2.x version. Particularly if you get the WLInitialContextFactory in your code , then there is no need to set the JNDI name in the JNDI tree in weblogic admin console.
    Like:-
    Context ctx = null;
    java.sql.Connection conn = null;
    Hashtable<String,String> ht = new Hashtable<String,String>();
    ht.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY,"weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");
    ht.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL,"t3://localhost:7001");
    This will take care of JNDI tree, hence there is no need to set the JNDI name explictly in the weblogic admin console.
    Please correct me if i am wrong. Whether for datasource also whether we can do the same, by setting the resource-ref with datasource in the ejb-jar.xml and not set anything in weblogic admin console? Thanks.

  • JNDI name in ejb-jar.xml

    Hi all,
    I am deploying about 80 beans to WebSphere using the console. I was wondering if it was possible to set the jndi name of my beans in the standard ejb-jar.xml file within my jarfile.
    I tried to add the trags <jndi-name> or <jndiname> to my ejb-jar.xml but it is ignored and I still have to input all the jndi names by myself.
    Seems like the jndi-name resided in the vendor-specific ejb-jar.xml.
    Max.

    Perhaps the <jndi-name> in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml:
    <?xml version="1.0" ?>
      <!DOCTYPE weblogic-ejb-jar (View Source for full doctype...)>
      <weblogic-ejb-jar>
        <weblogic-enterprise-bean>
          <ejb-name>CurrencyConverterBean</ejb-name>
          <stateless-session-descriptor />
          <jndi-name>conv</jndi-name>
        </weblogic-enterprise-bean>
      </weblogic-ejb-jar>

  • How to externalize JNDI name (setting JNDI name dynamically)

    Hi,
    In adapters such as ftp, database, we have to specify the jndi name. This binds the adapter to a particular jndi name. While this is certainly better than binding the adapter directly to the physical resource, I was wondering if it is possible to have even more flexibililty- setting the jndi name dynamically.
    Basically my requirement is to develop a web service that reads a file from a FTP location. I know I can externalize the filename and directory, but I am wondering how to set the ftp location dynamically.
    http://darwin-it.blogspot.com/2008/03/configuration-of-ftp-synchronous-get.html provides the answer if I wish to set the hostname, portname, user id and password.
    But I want to setup the FTP adapter in AS, and then use that JNDI name in my service. Is it possible...I am using SOA 10.1.3.3
    Regards,
    Amit

    I was able to access the files. Thanks.
    The example shows how to use the header properties in file adapter, and it sets the filename and directory elements dynamically....this I already knew.
    <copy>
    <from variable="inputVariable" part="payload"
    query="/client:PassFilePropertiesDynamicallyProcessRequest/client:FileName"/>
    <to variable="outHeader" part="outboundHeader"
    query="/ns2:OutboundFileHeaderType/ns2:fileName"/>
    </copy>
    <copy>
    <from variable="inputVariable" part="payload"
    query="/client:PassFilePropertiesDynamicallyProcessRequest/client:Location"/>
    <to variable="outHeader" part="outboundHeader"
    query="/ns2:OutboundFileHeaderType/ns2:directory"/>
    </copy>
    What I want to know is, what is the element to be added in the ftpAdapterOutboundHeader.wsdl that denotes the FTP Location (which is different from the directory).
    I guess your next update which would talk about FTP adapter, would clarify things.
    Thanks for your replies,
    Amit

  • Dynamic jndi-name in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml

    Is there a way to create dynamic (i.e. runtime) jndi-names for EJBs instead of
    (or in addition to) "hard coding" them in the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file? What
    I'm trying to do is have one WebLogic instance (JVM) host multiple environments
    (our Beta and Training environments) and I simply want to deploy the same .ear
    file twice but have each environment (application - .ear) reference a different
    database schema (jdbc connection pool). I have everything working just fine for
    this scenario except when I define jndi-names for our ejbs. The problem is that
    I am really deploying the same ejbs (jndi-names and actually code base) in each
    applicatoin instance and I get an exception when the WebLogic is trying to deploy
    the second application (.ear) because the jndi-names in it have already been deployed
    by the first application instance. I recieve a jndi error stating that the name
    is already deployed.
    Or is there a better path to go down for what I am trying to do to have one WebLogic
    instance support our beta and training environments? Usually (but not always)
    our code base is the for same for both of these environments, I simply need to
    have each environment use a different database schema.
    Thanks

    A little birdie tells me that BEA does this very thing. Looking at the
    descriptors for WebLogic Portal I see:
    <weblogic-enterprise-bean>
    <ejb-name>LoaderEJB</ejb-name>
    <enable-call-by-reference>True</enable-call-by-reference>
    <jndi-name>${APPNAME}.BEA_content.LoaderHome</jndi-name>
    </weblogic-enterprise-bean>
    Yes, the ${APPNAME} token really is expanded into the J2EE application
    name at deployment time!

    Does the JNDI name referenced in weblogic.xml need to be the same as that defined
    in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml? No. ejb-ref mechanism allows you to map an actual ejb jndi name to one used by your
    application - so, in theory, system administrator can change jndi names without
    touching your application code. You do not see it in the global JNDI tree because
    this mapping exists only in the context of your application.

    That's what ejb-ref in web.xml is for - you can create an ejb-ref in
    web.xml
    and map it to an actual jndi name in weblogic.xml ejb-reference-description.

    Why can't I reference the EJB using a seperate name (as in some J2EEexamples)?

  • Jndi-name in  Message Driven Bean

    Hi
    I have successfully created the ejb jar file for deployment using sun one studio . I created the message driven bean and I right clicked on the ejb and used the customize option to set the bean properties . But my problem is that the jndi-name in the <ejb> tags takes the value jms/(ejbname) instead of jms/(queuename) . I am attaching the xml file with this . Can any one tell how to set the jndi-name to queue value using studio

    Hi Bhagya,
    Thanks for your response. I think from EJB container we can call Local EJBs with the full JNDI name. The session facade bean which is being called is a remote bean. From the session facade bean I am calling a local stateless session bean for database access. I am getting the reference of the local EJB from my session facade bean with full JNDI name "java:comp/env/ejb/EJBJNDIName". It is working fine with out any problem. My servicelocator is able to provide me the reference of the local EJB from the session facade remote bean with Full JNDI name. I am only having this problem calling from the MDB. I am really not sure whether what is causing it?
    Thanks

  • New JNDI name created for each drag and drop of database table into table

    Hi All,
    I'm using Netbeans 5.5 with Visual Web Pack with Mysql as backend. Whenever I drag and drop a database table into table component it creates new JNDI (data source) name for each table. I want to use single JNDI name for all tables. If I change the JNDI name to default name then the design disappears and shows error . Is there any option to set the JNDI name unique for all tables?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi again,
    Well I've tried using the MouseListener / MouseMotionListener approach but it doesn't quite seem to work, although it does get the events correctly. I think the reason is that it doesn't interact correctly with the Java DnD machinery which is something that V.V hinted at. It's something that I may need to look into if / when I have more time available.
    I have to say though that I haven't had any problems with scrollbars - we're making fairly heavy use of large tables and if you drag over a table with a scroll bar and move to the top or bottom then it scrolls as you would expect and allows you to drop the data where you like. For this situation I've used pretty much the same approach as for the toy example above except that I've implemented separate source and destination TransferHandlers (the source table is read-only, and it really doesn't make sense to allow people to drag from the destination table so I've essentially split the functionality of the example handler down the middle).
    I'm not actually particularly in favour of messing too much with the mechanics of DnD, more because of lack of time than anything else. Guess I'll just have to put up with this for the moment. Doesn't help that DnD is so poorly documented by Sun.
    Thanks for all your help.
