Setting Exchange as default address book

I use only Exchange to store my email, contacts, and calendar data. Unfortunately, Address Book insists on also having it's "On My Mac" folder/account, which I can't seem to delete. I wouldn't care except that whenever I create a new contact (or "Add to Address Book" from within Mail), it automatically creates the contact within On My Mac, and not within my Exchange account where I keep all my contacts. It's a bit annoying having to go in and manually move the contact from On My Computer to my Exchange account.
Is there any way to set a "default" account within Address Book such that I can have it automatically use the Exchange one?
Dan

Problem solved:
Open Address Book
Hit Cmd+; or click Address Book \ Preferences
Click Accounts on the toolbar
Under the "On My Mac" account, change the setting for "Default account for new contacts".
That's it! So glad this setting is in here. A bit hard to find (I just stumbled upon it a few moments ago), but at least it's there.

  • ICloud destroys default address book.

Using iCloud for Outlook 2010 on Multiple W7Pro PC's and also have multiple MACs using Lion.  Outlook sync on the PC destroys all entries to the Default Address Book and writes them to the iCloud Address Book making all tasks and Calendar entries not visible on the Outlook Home page.  The problem is that the Default Address Book is still there and empty and many addins that use Outlook want to see addresses in the Default Address Book.  New contacts end up in the Default Address Book and then get synced to iCloud.  However, changes to the iCloud calendar in Outlook only sync to iCal on other Apple machines, not to other PC's with iCloud and Outlook sync turned on.
There are lots of us loyal Apple enthusiasts who still have to live in a PC World at the office.  Apple doesn't have any help on this subject and has just thumbed their nose at customers like us.  They sure should pop up a warning on the perils of Outlook sync.
    Any help is appreciated.

That is standard Outlook behaviour with subscription accounts, such as iCloud. There is no workaround unless you dump Outlook, or iCloud. I would dump Outlook, it's awful unless you have an Exchange account.

  • To get GAL of non default address book from multiple accounts in outlook

I have two domain accounts configured in my outlook, for example [email protected] and [email protected]
There are 2 address books (Please refer to the picture attached). I want to show user to SelectNameDialog by adding the recipients from non-default account's address book. But it adds the names to the selectnamedialog from the default address book and displays.
    C# code : Outlook.SelectNamesDialog snd = app.Session.GetSelectNamesDialog();
How to get non-default account’s address book programmatically.
    ThankYou for your suggestion.

Setting the InitialAddressList property is the programmatic equivalent to selecting an AddressList from the drop-down list for Address Book in
    the Select Names dialog box.
In its default state, InitialAddressList is the AddressList that has the property AddressList.IsInitialAddressList set
to True. IsInitialAddressList corresponds to setting Show this address list first in the Addressing dialog
box, which is available by clicking Tools, and then Options in the Address
    Book dialog box.

  • Default address book

How can I make address book of my gmail account as default?
Secondly if I want to add email address of any downloaded emails or incoming emails then by default they add it to my default address book of my gmail account.

You can't change the default address book, but if you use the Contacts sidebar (F9 in a Write window), you can select which address book appears when the sidebar is visible.
When you click the yellow start next to a sender's address in the Message Header to add it to an address book, the first click stores it in Personal Address Book, but if you click the star again, it's possible to select the address book from the drop-down list.

  • How to move old address book (XP) into new computer (8.1) as the existing default address book.

I have exported the address book in LDIF format and have also found the abook.mab file in my old XP computer. My new W8.1 address book is totally empty. I don't know where to find the Profile folder on W8.1 and when I import the LDIF it creates a new address book folder which I don't want. I just want everything in the default address book.

Open the newly created address book. Click on one contact to select it. Hit control+a to select them all. Drag and drop them on the personal Address Book folder to move them there.

He needs to add your Apple ID in settings > mail, contacts, calendars (as a secondary iCloud account), then check contacts and calendars from the options available.
Note, he would be able to enable mail, reminders etc as well at will. should he wish to do so. If you are OK with that, it should all work as you want it to.

  • Exchange 2010 - Offline Address Book and Global Address List Issue!

I don't think I'm going crazy but cant find out why this is happening?
When I search the Address book in cached mode (OAB) in outlook for "Jackie W"
I get a number of users which include "Jackie W***"
but some are "Jackie K***" or "Jackie B***"
but their Office is set to "Westminster"
But this is the strange part when I search on the address book with Cached mode disabled (GAL) I only get users with Surnames begging with
"W" so only "Jackie W***" show up and if I just type in "Westminster" I get users form that location! but not a mix like on the OAB! Also when using the OAB if I type
"Jackie West" it brings up the Jackie from Westminster but this dose not happen when using the GAL because there is no
"Jackie West" in the Address book?
To my knowledge the OAB is just a Copy of the GAL that updates every 24 hours, and should be the same (give or take a few starters and leavers in the last 24 hours) and should pull up the same information when searching is this correct or am I going crazy!
    :D

    Hi MattE,
Does it happen for each Outlook profile you have, from every user account which is on Cached Mode.
A.If not then I believe OAB copy is either corrupted or Out of date.
Checking it on OWA would confirm the actual GAL data.(Similar to Online Exchange)
Client side update runs by default at Startup and every 24hrs , if skipped it will wait for next day or manual update.
1.In Outlook 2010, select the File tab in the upper left corner, then Download Address Book from the Account Settings drop down menu.
Outlook 2007 users should select Tools from Outlooks uppermost menu, then Send/Receive and Download Address Book from the Tools drop down menus.
2.The Offline Address Book window will appear. Make sure the following options are selected:
##De-check the Download changes since last Send/Receive option
##Make sure Full Details is selected
##Make sure the \Global Address List is selected from the Choose address book drop down menu
Q: How frequently is the offline address book updated on the Outlook client?
A: If left constantly running, Outlook in cached mode automatically updates the offline address book on the client every 24 hours. The 24-hour time period is measured from the time that the offline address book was last downloaded successfully. For example, if you complete an offline address book download at 09:00 today, Outlook will start the offline address book download the next day at approximately 09:00. Therefore, different people will receive updates at different, random times.
Note The default setting on the Exchange computer is to generate an offline address book differential file every morning at 04:00. For a change that is made in Active Directory to reach the client computer, the following events must occur:•The change must be picked up by the Exchange computer that generates the offline address book files. This can take several hours. At worst, it can take 24 hours. This variable will be referred to as "x."
•The Outlook clients must download the offline address book updates every 24 hours. This update can take several hours. At worst, it can take 24 hours. This variable will be referred to as "y."
The update reaches the client machines x+y hours later. It would be rare for a client to ever experience a 48-hour delay or more unless there were some Active Directory or public folder replication issues.
B.If yes, then there is a issue with OAB generation, that needs further troubleshooting depending on the distribution structure used Public Folder based or EWS.
    • Try following:
EMC > Organization configuration > Mailbox > Offline address book.
Then right click on "Default offline addressbook" and select properies.
Click on "Distribution" tab, and untick "Enable public folder distribution". Click "Apply" and "OK"
Update the Address Book. Let replication finish.
Now go back to same location and tick "Enable public folder distribution" back again. Click "Apply" and "OK".

Do you mean the new Offline Address Book has been set to default and can be updated successfully? And now, the new issue is that send/receive hang on "Offline address book Connecting to Microsoft Exchange" and will never finish. Is it right?

  • Mail App connecting to Exchange via IMAP - Address Book Images

Not a life or death problem, I have multiple accounts in Mail App - some using POP3, Some using IMAP. The IMAP accounts don't show Address Book images at all. The POP3 accounts are fine.
    Odd one, any ideas why?

For the best Mac compatibility with Exchange, I suggest you use Microsoft Entourage, part of Microsoft Office.

  • How do I change the default address book from the Personal Address Book?

Whenever I click on an email address from within an email and ask to add it to my address book, the contact is added to Personal Address Book. How do I change that so that new addresses will be added to another book?

I do not know of a way to change the default but after you click the star beside the address to add it to the address book, click the star a second time to open the edit dialog box. There is a drop down list of your address books to make the change there.

  • Where does 10.6 keep exchange data for Address Book?

Today I lost many of my exchange contacts (??) and I'd like to restore from a backup, but the database in ~/Library/Application Support/Address Book only seems to contain the "on my mac" addresses, and I really need to restore from a backup that contains my exchange contacts. Restoring from time machine fails, it only restores my local contacts. Anyone know where I can find that data? Totally baffled by this...

It's not only Exchange entries, I have the problem with regular address book entries stored locally (and synced to MobileMe). Sometimes they pop up, sometimes they don't, sometimes some show up but not all of them, it's very odd. I can temporarily correct the problem by adding the Library/Application Data/Address Book folder to Spotlight privacy exclusion, letting it sit for a few minutes, then removing it (so that it re-indexes the data), but with hours, it back to mysteriously dropping data.
Also recently all data in my Address Book disappeared, and I had to delete all the files in the Library/Application Data/Address Book folder, then re-sync to MobileMe in order to get it back. Very concerning!
I've been having this issue since 10.6 was initially released, and it concerns me that 2 point releases have gone by without a fix for this.

  • Exchange synchronisation with Address book

    Hi all,
I am trying to get the synchronisation working between Address book and my Exchange server. I have managed to get the address book to talk to my correct exchange server (https://domain/exchange/userid), and can verify that it is actually sending http packets to my server (I used TCPDUMP to verify that it was hitting my server with packets whenever I hit Sync now in isync).
However, the very brief conversion between the exchange server and the sync process would indicate that something is awry with the process. (since it isn't syncing).
I was wondering if there is any way of turning on debugging in the exchange sync process to increase the verbosity in the system.log to work out what problem is happening (like bogus password, or my self signed exchange ssl certificate being unaccepted etc etc).
    The only messages I am getting in system.log is "....... Translator[2323]: Invoked to sync conduit com.apple.ExchangeConduit for entityNames: com.apple.contacts.Contact,com.apple.contacts.Email Address,com.apple.contacts.Phone Number,com.apple.contacts.Street Address,com.apple.contacts.URL

  • Setting Up a Shared Address Book

Hello, and thank you for taking a look at my question.
I concur with the many people on this forum who are amazed how frustratingly difficult it is to setup a shared Address Book. I have a small office network of 4 users (all running the latest Snow Leopard) connected to a Mac Pro running the most current Snow Leopard Server.
This forum did lead me to 2 good articles on the subject:
    http://osxupgrade.com/create-a-global-address-book-with-mac-os-x-snow-leopard-se rver/456/
    http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf= 1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fsupport.osxplain.de%2Fcontent%2F4%2F1%2Fde%2Fgruppenkontakte.ht ml&sl=de&tl=en
I followed them carefully and created my new Group in Workgroup Manager which I then populated with the users in my office.
I then tried to configure Address Book at the client's iMac. I couldn't get Address Book to 'see' the server.
There are 2 areas I may have got wrong and I would be very grateful for some advice/guidance please:
On the client Mac, how can I check the fully qualified address of my server to ensure I am entering the correct address in the Address Book Wizard when creating the new account (can I not use the static IP address of the server)?
On the server, I have created, and started, the Address Book Server service. What should I enter in the Authentication > Host Name please? The manual says "It should be a fully qualified domain name matched with a reverse lookup record". How can I check I have got this correct?
Sorry for the obvious questions but it's all new to me.
    Many thanks
    Chris

On the client Mac, how can I check the fully qualified address of my server to ensure I am entering the correct address in the >Address Book Wizard when creating the new account (can I not use the static IP address of the server)?
Open the Terminal window on your client Mac and type *dig [name of your server]* and check that it returns the IP address of your server. Then type *dig -x [ip address of your server] and check it returns the name of your server e.g. server.domain.com
This will show you what your client Mac thinks you server is.
Do the same on the server and it should match. If not then you may have a problem. Here is an example.
    *dig server.bumfodder.com*
