Setting for iPad video

I use many diffent video formats (5D, GoPro, 7D, etc) and need a setting to Convert to 1280x720 to import via my camera connection kit from an SD card so I can edit on iMovie. I don't want to use AppleTV setting since it's smaller than 720p, and I can convert my 1080p with no issues, but I can't convert my GoPro footage to work, even if I force an aspect of 1280x720 and a frame rate of 30. The iPad just doesn't see it.... Just from the GoPro..
Anyone have a setting that completely wipes out the meta data and creates a clean new movie that I can import on my iPad at the iPad 720p settings?

Doesn't. I've tried many combinations of it and if it source not as 1920x1080 or 1280x720, it doesn't work. If I use an odd setting and force it to 1280x720 at h.264 it doesn't work. Everything but my GoPro footage works.

There are a number of lens kits available that will work on the iPad, but I've never seen one that will work on the forward lense (which is what I assum you are looking for). Doesn't mean there isn't one however.

Jabber for iPad video issue

How can I troubleshoot video issues?
I setup the iPad device (G711) and then placed a call to a Jabber for Windows (G729) phone. Audio worked fine but no video. I changed the Jabber for Windows to G711 and video started working?
Is Jabber for iPad going to support G729 and if so when?

Checking from app whether a passcode lock is set for Ipad

Hi,
Since my app would be dealing with sensitive data of the user, I would like to know if there is a way I can check from my app whether there is a Passcode Lock set for the Ipad.
The reason I need to check this is because say if the user has in the app some information and then keeps it on the table and goes out for a couple of minutes. The ipad/iphone by default, goes to standby mode. If a passcode lock had been set, only when the correct passcode is entered, would anyone be able to use the ipad. This would provide an additional security measure to prevent any passerby to view the sensitive data from the app.
So basically, I would like my app to check whether the passcode lock is set and if not prompt the user to do it.
Is this possible and if so, would any one be able to point me in the right direction?

well, that still does not give me what I need.. I have implemented that functionality already in my app..
Since this is a client requirement, I need to make sure whether it is possible or not.. so again, I need to check from my app, whether there is a passcode set in the ipad ( so that only when the passcode is typed, will the ipad be unlocked) . if a passcode lock is not set in the ipad, then I should be able to tell the user to do it...

Best export setting for HD Video

I am currently woriking with Final Cut Express HD and I am new to the whole HD experience. I would like to know what is the best exporting setting for FCE to be copied on DVD and viewed. I am currently working on a wedding project with a JVC Pro HD camera GY-HD110 720p. Any help will be appreciated. Thank You.

Best Quality setting for iPad Playback

Just wondering if there is a recommended setting (1024-by-768) H.264 at ? bitrate for the new iPad?
Assuming the source video is HD either 720p or 1080p at 30fps.

Not really. The multicast rate defines the bottom limit of the wireless data rate allowable before the wireless connection is discontinued. If you set this higher, you will cause disconnects if the signal is low. One way to think of this is that a higher multicast rate will decrease the usable range since you have to be closer to the base station to get a high data rate.

Creating chapters for iPad video

I understand that chapters can be added to videos using Quicktime Pro. If I do this, will I be able to see the chapters on an iPad? I don't want to pay the upgrade price and find out it doesn't work. Has anyone done this or willing to do a quick test for me?

Compressor setting for 227min video to DVD9

I have a 227 min. video (no audio) captured from Super8 rolls shot in the late 60's. It's edited in FCE HD, PAL. I've tried to use bitrate calculators, but they all give a caluclated bitrate to use without VBR encoding. I'd like to get the best possible result with Compressor 2 and DVDSP 4 using Two pass VBR Best option, but I can't figure out what values I need for Average and maximum bitrate to make the output m2v file fit on a DVD9 disk. I've tried Average as low as 3.5 and Max 7.0, but the resulting enoced file was just above 10Gb and too big for a DVD9 disk. Should I drop the average bitrate below 3.5 ?
What effect would it have on the encoded filesize to also drop the Maximum bitrate ?
Any good suggestions on how I can achieve my goal will be much appreciated !!

Don't forget that with VBR you are aiming for an average bit rate. Some of it will be higher, some lower, but overall the encoder will aim to reach the average for the footage. This means that your bit rate calculator (which should be stating about 4.6MBPS in your case) is what you set the average to.
If you set the maximum to be 5.5MBPS then the encoder will allocate whatever bits it needs to allocate to the sections that can take a lower rate, accommodating the higher rate sections to achieve the average overall of 4.6MBPS.
If you set the upper to be 8MBPS, then the longer the sections that use this upper rate, the harder it will be to achieve the average, and subsequently the encoder will allocate lower than expected rates to the sections it can.
Using two pass will help significantly, but don't go expecting miracles if you make the maximum too high!
Oh - and do run a test on a section that you think will demand a higher bitrate overall. Choose a section of fast action, pans or zooms, etc, and encode that at different rates, then see what it looks like. Try using 4, 4.3 and 4.6 as your average settings, and 5, 5.5 and 6 as the max...

Best compression setting for SD video on iWeb 09 for instant start

I've posted a website that has video clips on it and the video's play fine, but take about 2 to 3 minutes to load. No one wants to wait that long to watch a video. 3 of the video's are 2 minutes long and the 4th video is 7 minutes long. Is there a different setting in compressor that will keep decent video quality and allow the video to start playing as soon as possible. The current size is only half size and it still is taking a while to load. Thanks for your help.

You do not need more storage in iCloud. You need more space on the iPad itself.
Go to settings>General>Usage>Storage to see how much space you have used and how much you up have left. If you have movies that can be downloaded again for free, delete them from the iPad in order to make room. Movies take up a lot of space. You can also delete apps if you want to do so and download them again if needed.
Whatever you do, you should backup your iPad with either iCloud (if that is what you use) or iTunes. If you use iTunes, transfer all ontent to the computer and sync, before you delete any content, so that you can retrieve it at a later time.

How can i change the setting for audio-video for my face time to built in only so i can have my skype camera ?

The last few days my I lost the ability on Skype to be seen by the other party ... I can see them but they cannot see me. At the same time my Face Time sent me some messages error.
When I open my Skype and go to Preference and go to audio/video I see my image ... and when I go back to make a call the camera is off (no light). When I look at the bottom where I can have a drop down arrow I have Face Time (built in).
On my other Macpro (that work well) I have at the same place built-in only.
Cannot change anything on my MacBook air ... no drop in.

FLV files set for streaming video not working

I have been using Captivate 4 for some time using imported FLV and progressive download options. Playback is too slow, so I am trying to use a streaming service (Limelight Networks Flash Video Streaming Service). I took an existing Captivate project, uploaded the FLV file to the streaming service and select the following in Captivate under the Flash Video tab:
Video type: Streaming video
Server URI: points to server, app, instance from provider (eg: rtmp://xxx.net/yyy/zzz...)
Stream name: filename.flv
I publish (htm and swf files are local, flv is on the streaming provider's machine) and try to playback. Captivate loads and after a time I get an error saying that a script is causing the flashplayer to run slowly (version 10). It then locks up (tested in IE, Firefox and Chrome). I've changed options in Captivate such as Flashplayer version (from 8-10) and buffer delay, to no avail. No video played. Previously the video played in the project as a progressive download.

This still hasn't worked for us. We have been given a server name in this format: rtmp://server.name.net/ and an application name in the format app/name, which together form a url: rtmp://server.name.net/app/name
Then I have the move file in a subdirectory (/test) from this base url and finally the filename: myvideo.flv
So putting it together I have tried in Captivate:
Streaming
field 1: rtmp://server.name.net/app/name
field 2: /test/myvideo.flv
or
rtmp://server.name.net/app/name/test
myvideo.flv
or
rtmp://server.name.net/app/name
/test/myvideo
and other combations of these three. I've eliminated the flv extension, tried with and without preceding (/) and trailing (/) (eg: /test/... vs test/... or).
None of these seem to work. I can play the flv directly using a client called WIMPY so I know the streaming service works. With that client I enter a fully qualified path such as: rtmp:/server.name.net/app/name/test/myvideo.flv and it works flawlessly.

What's the best compression setting for exporting video to DVD?

My QT self contained file from FCP is 13 GB (1:02 min long) when I use DV NTSC while exporting. When iDVD finished encoding it, it went down to 3.4 GB (that includes video files in my iDVD menus).
*Since the DVD media is 4.7 GB can I make better quality DVD by lessening compression while exporting from FCP?*
I don't think there is a way to tweak compression in iDVD. And my second question:
*Is "self contained" file better quality than just a reference file?*
*I would like to make the best possible quality DVD and am looking for some tips on what settings would help me achieve it.*

Hi Joby,
Compressor is what you need.
Import your file, choose DVD best quality 90 minutes from the settings tab (lower left window in Compressor). This will allow your movie to be converted as MPEG 2 and ac3 dolby stereo (best compression for DVD audio).
The inspector window (lower right window) will allow you to decide/arrange settings as you like.
If you are not sure about best bit rate choice use the [Bit Budget|http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/bitbudget.html]
As you can see the inspector window offers a range of customizable settings if you are not familiar with those the manual (main menu>help>user manual) will answer all your questions. Simply type a word or definition in the search area and most likely the manual will provide the info you seek.
Self contained means that you create a file with exact copies from your original frames and edit on the timeline, a self-contained file becomes independent from your timeline. A reference movie as the definition says totally refers to your FCP project and wouldn't work on a different machine without referenced media files.
There is no difference in quality between the two QTmovie options.
