Setting FROM address on outgoing mail

Can I set the FROM address on all outgoing email to something other than my .MAC account? I want my email to go to a mail forwarding address? I belong to a professional association that provides an email forwarding service to its members, along with spam & antivirus scanning. I have it set to forward automatically to my .MAC account, so Mac Mail 2.x does not have an account record for that holding account. When I was using Outlook on my PC, I was able to set the FROM address on all outgoing messages to my forwarding address. However, now that I'm using Mac Mail rather than outlook, I haven't been able to set email to use that address rather than my Mac Mail address.

I went to the local Apple store earlier this week and asked on of the folks at the Genius Bar if he knew how to set the outgoing mail address. He showed me that I could enable the "reply to" field and then put my mail forwarding address into that field. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to pre-populate that field so that it always has my mail forwarding account address.

  • How to set a default "from" field on outgoing Mail message

    i read through the last few pages of this support forum and googled my topic but i havent found a suitable solution.
    in Mail v 3 (3.4) there is a "From:" field in any outgoing mail. very useful for those of us with multiple non-accounts and/or .Mac aliases. i generally set a specific outgoing mail server (so that field is removed from outgoing email).
    my problem is how to set a default outgoing email address so that my recipients always get from a certain (eg work) email address when i am at work. at work, anything i send, i want to show my work email without always having to manually select the "FROM" field in the outgoing email.
    ( aside: i had read that Mail version 3 was supposed to auto-select any reply so that the reply would come from the same email i orginally sent as. this does not work on my mac.)
    This problem is exacerbated as Mail auto-rotates between my 4 email accounts/aliases (which are all listed (correctly) in the FROM field. it would be great if this list could be fixed with a default FROM address.
    eg i send an email from my work email address (FROM: [email protected]) the next email i send will be rotated through my list of .mac aliases. i.e. the next email i send will not be from [email protected], but from [email protected] the next time it might move on to [email protected] or it might revert to [email protected]
    any thoughts on how to fix?
    i have tried deleting the home/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist. that is fine, but any .mac aliases (which i do use, but i dont want to be listed in the "FROM" field) are listed in the "FROM" field, and are auto-switched through my Mail again.
    i looked through Rules and Automator, but no obvious help there. any thoughts?

    Did you try Preferences > Accounts > Account Information and entering these other email aliases in the Email Address: field, separated by commas? That would give you a pop-down menu in the New Message window letting you choose which alias to use when sending an email.
    If you go to Preferences > Composing, there should be a pop-down menu near the middle of that window labeled "Send new mail from:" which will let you choose any email address you have entered in the Account Information field mentioned above, or "Account of last viewed mailbox" as the default.

  • Setting a Custom Gmail "From" Address in iPhone Mail

    I'm trying to set a different "From" or "Reply-to" address in the iPhone Mail app when using my Gmail account. I want the messages I send out to look like I've sent it from another e-mail account and not my gmail account. I tried the way Gmail recommends: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=81375# but that doesn't seem to work. It might be a different function with the iPhone 3G/iPhone 2.0 software.
    Anyone know of a workaround?

    Jrags, you can do this by setting up your email on your iPhone not using the "Gmail" option under "Add account" but rather the "Other" option." You can then specify the "from" address you want. You then also have to enter all the settings yourself for the Gmail incoming and outgoing servers.
    While in general it works just fine, there is one quirk you should know about. When you set it up this way, and you also choose to have the copies of the messages you have sent saved on the Gmail server, it can take up to 24 hours for them to appear there. If you save the copies of your outgoing messages on your iPhone they are saved instantly.

  • Setting from address on linux to receive the mail after shell script ran

    Hi,
    I scheduled some shell scripts on Linux as cronjobs. Once the shell scripts are executed at the scheduled timings i am receiving the mails as shown in the below. PRDORA, TSTORA, DEVORA are my environments.
    From     Subject     Size     Received
    oracle     dbora01cocen.corp.psi:PRDORA RMAN Archive Completed using Control file     11 KB     Wed 8/13
    [email protected]     TSTORA:[14]ORA-12012: error on auto execute of job 854     10 KB     Wed 8/13
    [email protected]     DEVORA:[7]ORA-12012: error on auto execute of job 1524     68 KB     Wed 8/13
    In the FROM address:
    I should receive the mail format: oracle@hostname in the FROM address like shown below.
    From     Subject     Size     Received
    [email protected] PRDORA01 RMAN Archive Completed using Control file     11 KB     Wed 8/13
    [email protected]     TSTORA01:[14]ORA-12012: error on auto execute of job 854     10 KB     Wed 8/13
    [email protected]      DEVORA01:[7]ORA-12012: error on auto execute of job 1524     68 KB     Wed 8/13.
    Rightnow this dbora01cocen.corp.psi is mixing up with the subject in PRDORA instead it should in the FROM address. Can anyone please guide where i am suppose to make modifications in order to get this change.
    Thanks

    Sorry for the Late Reply.
    What does:
    $ /bin/hostname
    return for each of these environments?
    FOR DEV:
    [email protected][DEVORA01]% /bin/hostname
    devora01coden.corp.psi
    FOR TEST:
    [email protected][TSTORA01]$ /bin/hostname
    testora01coden.corp.psi
    FOR PRD:
    [email protected][PRDORA01]$ /bin/hostname
    dbora01cocen.corp.psi
    Are you using a local DNS or /etc/hosts entries to assign host names to IP addresses?I am not sure about this but i looked at /etc/hosts in each server and found the entry of the individual server on all the 3 servers.
    Thanks

  • Sent-From Address Changing in Mail?

    Hello,
    My father got an iPad and is using it for business. He has two email addresses: a business address and a Gmail address.
    In Gmail, there is an option to have your sent-from address be a different email address, so when he writes an email from Gmail, he has it set so that it appears that the email was set from his business address, NOT the Gmail address. So, even though he's officially sending it from his Gmail account, the recipient will see [email protected], not [email protected],
    This is great, but in Mail, when he writes an email from his Gmail address to a business contact, it shows it as being from the Gmail address, not the business address as he has it set. He is having to go to Gmail from his browser to send the email to have it have the proper From address, rather than being able to do it directly from Mail.
    Is there any way to rectify this?

    Gmail is primarily webmail and, of course, I know that that option is available when you're logged into and using Gmail.com. Your father would be able to domthe same thing, I.e., use Safari or the Google app to operate directly at Gmail instead of remotely through a client like Mail.
    The only other option I can think of would be to add his business account into Mail on the iPad, following the setup instructions in the User Guide. There is moding in Mail which allows you to assign any installed email address and outgoing email server to any message — Tapping the From: address shown in the message being composed pops a menu showing other options for the From field.

  • How to set FROM ADDRESS for EMAIL activity in Process Flow

    Hi all,
    Can any one tell how to set(which address) FROM ADDRESS for EMAIL activity in Process Flow?
    Thanks,
    Suvvi

    Did you set what OWB guide says:
    To execute a process flow with an email activity, you may need to access different host machines and ports. New security measures implemented in Oracle Database 11g Release 1 restrict access to hosts and ports. You must explicitly grant access to hosts and ports that the email activity accesses using the DBMS_NETWORK_ACL_ADMIN package.
    For example, the user OWBSYS needs to send an email through the mail server mail.example.com using port 25. The DBA must perform the following steps:
    1. Create an Access Control List (ACL) for the user OWBSYS using the following command:
    EXECUTE DBMS_NETWORK_ACL_ADMIN.CREATE_ACL
    (’acl_for_owb_cc.xml’,’ACL for Control Center’,’OWBSYS’,’CONNECT’);
    The ACL has no access control effect unless it is assigned to network target.
    2. Assign the Access Control List (ACL) to a network host, and optionally specify a TCP port range. Use the following command:
    EXECUTE DBMS_NETWORK_ACL_ADMIN.ASSIGN_ACL (’acl_for_owb_cc.xml’,’mail.example.com’,25)
    3. Commit the changes made using the COMMIT command.

  • From Address in iPhone Mail with multiple accounts

    If anyone has a multiple email accounts setup on their iPhone, can they confirm that when they reply to a message in one mailbox, it has the from address set as that account and doesn't use the same from address for every email account setup. Eg, if I have [email protected] and [email protected] setup and when it go into the CNN Inbox, choose a message, press Reply, it has [email protected] as the from/account its sending from and if I go into the BBC inbox, choose a message, hit reply, it has [email protected] as the reply/account its sending from?

  • Can't drag and drop from Address Book to Mail?

    Hi,
    I have always used Address Book to store my email contact information in SL. When I wanted to send an email, I would drag and drop from Address Book to the "To:" field in Mail and it would add the contact information to Mail. I upgraded to Lion, and now when I try this, the address icon moves like it should, the little green circle with the + in it appears when I hover over the field, but when I release it does not add the address to Mail. The drag and drop does not work at all, but it looks like it should. I have searched all around but have not found any information about this. Does anyone know what's up with this? How can I fix it? Thanks in advance.

    Are you dragging from the actual AddressBook application, or the Address icon you can add to the NewMail and Reply toolbars in Mail?  (It ought to be there by default, but isn't).
    Either should work, but if AB doesn't, try the icon method:

  • Set sender address on iphone Mail

    hi there,
    I have set Gmail as an Exchange profil in iphone iOS 5 Mail client, but I have a little problem.
    I have a domain, but EMAIL is not hosted with Google apps, it's only forwarded at my provider to my gmail address.
    [email protected] --> [email protected]
    In Gmail / Settings I have "Send mail as:" option enabled, it means all outgoing emails and replying to messages are sent "on behalf of" my [email protected] address.
    I would like to have this set on iphone's Mail client as well. So, if I send out an email on the phone, it should state [email protected] as sender, and NOT [email protected]
    How can I do this?
    Thank you in advance,
    Zoltan

  • The "From: field on outgoing mail has dissappeared.

    and I can't find anywhere to add From.
    It simply vanished, whereas I'd always had a From, with pulldown menu that allowed me to choose which name/email address I wanted to send from.
    thanks,
    eek

    No - nothing to do with columns, alas.
    What is missing is the pulldown menu that used to be on lower left of address area.
    The pulldaown aid "accounts" and I could pull down to select which of my email names I wanted to send from.
    Oh - and this is the mail application, not the internet .
    Thank you!

  • Setting the Charset for outgoing mail in Mail

    When I send mails to windows-systems, the Outlook program gets the message with wrong characters. Especially of course the special danish characters, but also other information goes wrong. F.ex. grey lines hows up where I certainly did not put it!
    I have noticed, that the header of the message from Mail is like this:
    --Apple-Mail-1--672517002
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
    Content-Type: text/plain;
    charset=US-ASCII;
    delsp=yes;
    format=flowed
    Sometimes like this:
    --Apple-Mail-9--596884052
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
    Content-Type: text/plain;
    charset=UTF-8;
    delsp=yes;
    format=flowed
    When using the HTML functionality in Mail I get headers like this:
    --Apple-Mail-2--619494695
    Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable
    Content-Type: text/plain;
    charset=WINDOWS-1252;
    delsp=yes;
    format=flowed
    And the HTML-mails show's correctly!
    I guess it is an charset issue, but how can I control that maually?

    Open your Mail.app
    From the top of your screen choose Window>Connection Doctor.
    Double click on each server and make sure the password field is filled out, (your smtp server is likely to be missing the password)
    Enter the password into the field you find empty and close the preferences windows (saving changes if prompted) and close the Connection Doctor.
    Test to make sure you are fixed.
    If issues continue its going to be an issue with Keychain Access and you will need additional steps.

  • Need to change outgoing mail address which is from an old account

    We recently switched to a new internet service provider, but the old address is by default still being sent as the outgoing (from:) address in the Mail application. Is there a way to remove that address? The problem is not with the service provider because I have been able to check the current valid inbox address through the service provider's homepage online. The problem must lie with a setting in the computer that has retained the old address as a default.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    If you're sending from the new account, that address is the outgoing mail address, by default. Did you try deleting the server of the old account? It could be sending mail out through that server instead of the one provided by the new ISP, which would change the outgoing mail address.
    Go to Preferences > Accounts and select the new account; look near the bottom of the window where it says "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)" and check to be sure that is set to the server provided by your new mail provider. If it's not, you need to select the correct one from the pop-down list.

  • Email 'From' address in Mail

    In OSX Mail.app, you can now select 'Custom' from the pop-up menu for Aliases and enter whatever you want, even if they're not Apple addresses. But, how can one do this in iOS? All I can see in iOS Settings for an iCloud type account is the list of aliases set up in iCloud on the web (something you actually cannot do from iOS bizarrely), which can ONLY be iCloud.com addresses. Am I missing something here?
    At the moment it seems to me that Mail in OSX and iOS have entirely different capabilities. I need to be able to use different addresses to send From. I can do this when on my Mac, but I cannot seem to do that from any iOS device. With all the recent furore about Mavericks and iOS 7, I would have thought they might have noticed this glaring inconsistency.
    Anyone know if it is actually possible to use alternate (non Apple) From addresses in iOS Mail?

    I just checked something else. My mail account is a hotmail one, so I decided to log into hotmail proper and see how it displays there. The same thing happens on the hotmail site, so perhaps it's a sender issue.
    That would mean that Mail takes its 'from' field from the sender's metadata rather than data that's on my machine. Is this how it works?
