Setting From field in Mail

I recently changed from cable (optonline.net) to DSL (verizon.net), because the price went from about $50/month (cable) to $20/month (DSL).
The email address I’d like to advertise to the world is one based on a university. It’s not a real address, but a forwarding address that I can change when my real address changes.
I inserted my university email address in:
Mail->Preferences->Accounts->Account Information->Email Address
The above worked with the cable provider, but does not work with the DSL provider. Here I get the error message:
Cannot send message using the server version
The sender address was rejected by the server outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net.
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
Sending from: David Kallman <email removed>
Any suggestions? I tried setting:
Reply To -> email removed
This works sometimes, but not always. The Reply To field seems to be ignored by some mailers.

I'll close the two items above.

I am having the same problem but with a twist. I have about 5 different email accounts for both business and personal emails. I want my business mail to look like it is sent from my different domain name addresses and not the imap gmail account to which it is forwarded before I download it into Apple Mail.
Previously somehow the old Gmail pop account set up under Tiger allowed me to permanently change the From To field but now I have to change it each time.
I have tried the Reply To field but that needs to be changed each time as well.
I tried changing the "Send new mail from" under Mail Preferences Composing but that affects all my outgoing mail not just a particular account.
Has this changed with Leopard?
In case you are wondering why I don't forget the forwarding thru Gmail, I can't because now so many of my emails have been going out with the gmail email address instead, that I might miss mail if I did. I also needed to switch from Gmail Pop to Imap to be able to see all my emails with an iphone and 2 macbooks. And Mobileme just adds another complication in the middle.

  • Set default "from" field in Mail per account?

    Is there any way I can set the default "from" field in Mail based on the account I'm sending from?
    I have two accounts defined: work and personal. Each account has 2 email addresses associated with it (as a comma-separated list in the "Email Address" field under "Account Information"). Let's call the email addresses work-A, work-B, personal-A, personal-B.
    In the Composing prefs I can either select ONE default email address to send ALL mail from, or I can select to send from "Account of Last Viewed Mailbox", in which case Mail will choose a work email address if I'm in a work mailbox and a personal email address if I'm in a personal mailbox.
    That second option is great, except I can't control which work email address it chooses - A or B. Changing the order of the email addresses in the Account Information->Email Address field has no effect - it consistently chooses the "wrong" one :-/
    Any way I can use "Account of Last Viewed Mailbox" and still set a default mail address per account?

    Since my last post, I found tried putting
    Preferences->Accounts->Email address to be my edu address
    would add my .edu address as one of my from choices
    Next, I sent myself a mail message, with following result:
    The .edu address is now rejected by the outgoing server with the message:
    Cannot send message using the server
    The sender address (my .edu address) was rejected by the server
    I had this working at some time, but not now. Help, please.

  • How do you set the from field in mail to be one of two addresses?

    I have two email addresses.  How do I set up mail so I select which of the addresses goes in the from field?

    The From field should include a drop down menu from which you chose the address you want to ue for that message.

  • How do you set the From field in Mail?

    Is there any way to set the From field in messages. I have two email addresses:
    an .edu address at an university
    a .net at my ISP
    I’d like the From field to be my .edu addreess. Mail sent to my .edu address is forwarded to an address of my choosing, which happens to be my .net address. I would, however, like to keep my .net relatively hidden so I can change ISPs. We did that year switching from cable to DSL.
    I tried changing Mail Preferences->Accunts->Email Address
    to my .edu address. That, however, did not work. My DSL provider ignored the Email Address field and inserted my .net address in the from field. (I believe this method worked when I had a cable ISP.)

  • Setting From Field/Gmail?

    I have two email addresses:
    1. one from a university I attended (this is a virtual address)
    2. one from the telephone company (this is a real address)
    Mail can be sent to my university address and is forwarded to my real address.
    The problem I'm having is that the telephone company rejects mail with a different From field when I send mail through it; I can't set the From field to my university address. (I was able to set the From field when we used a cable connection; we switched to the telephone company because it saved about $12-$15/month. As long as people use my university address, everything is OK. With cable, my cable address was never seen. With the telephone company, I can't hide my telephone company address.)
    Can sending mail through gmail accomplish what I'm trying to do?
    Any other thoughts?
    Thanks.

    I have a .edu address. There is no storage associated with the .edu address, which is why I call it virtual. All mail sent to the .edu address is forwarded to someplace else. I can login to the .edu server to control the forward.
    I need to do this when I switch email providers, which, in my case, happened to be .net. When I switched from a cable to a telephone provider, my physical email address changed. I did not need to inform anyone sending email to me unless they happened to be using my .net address.
    In the cable world, the provider accepted .edu From fields. So everything was OK. The telephone provider does not, however, accept different From fields, so the From field is my physical .net address. I've tried "Reply To", but it's effectiveness is sporadic.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

  • Change "Return-From" field in mail.app messages

    I need to be able to change the "Return-From" field in some of my outbound emails using the mail.app. I can't find a way to do this. Can anyone help? Here is what I am basically trying to accomplish:
    I need recipients of the email to be able to select Reply and have the email come back to the same email address as the From field, but if they have an out of office turned on, or if the email is no longer a valid email address, I need those messages to go to a different email box so they don't clutter up the real messages that need to be worked.
    Any suggestions or ideas are appreciated.

    You can add any headers you want to Mail, with the defaults write com.apple.mail UserHeaders command in Terminal. However, it is easy to get it wrong, particularly if you already have added headers, so I would suggest you try Cricket's Applescripts for Mail, which includes one for doing it.
    That said, is there a Return-From header? I cannot recall having noticed one.

  • Hiding BCC/From Fields in Mail?

    Is there a way to hide the BCC and From fields in compose mail window? I have checked the settings and didn't see anything. Hoping it's an oversight because those two fields that I don't want to see are taking up valuable screen space.
    Thanks,
    Tom

    if you don't enter anything... it collapses those fields to just one when you go back to the To, Subj, or Body
    if you do enter addresses in the cc, bcc, or from... it stays that way...
    but the point is trivial because as you type you have to scroll anyway which gives you back that screen space so precious to you...
    so why not just scroll... is it necessary to see who is in the header fields at all times? i don't know of a reason why...

  • Manually change the "sent from" field in mail

    Hi there,
    I have a MobileMe account set up in Mail but I would like my sent messages to appear as if they were sent from another email account (a non mobile me account).
    Is there a way to do this ?
    Thanks for helping !
    Marc

    You can fix this problem by adding an entry into a file on your mac. You have to add an alias, but manually so by editing this file below:
    I finally found a solution. You can edit this file where USERNAME = users acutal account on the mac:
    Close Mail.
    Go to:
    /Users/USERNAME/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/accounts.plist
    Under this:
                <key>EmailAddresses</key>
                <array>
                    <string>[email protected]</string>
                </array>
    Type:
                <key>EmailAliases</key>
                <array>
                    <dict>
                        <key>alias</key>
                        <string>[email protected]</string>
                        <key>name</key>
                        <string>Name 1</string>
                    </dict>
                </array>
    Save version of file.
    Open Mail.
    I hope this helps - it seemed to work for me.

  • How to set "from" field in Versamail 4.0.1 EAS / Palm Centro Verizon

    I have set up a Palm Centro to sync via Activesync using Versamail 4.01.00. All seems to be working normally but there doesn't seem to be a place to set the senders proper first and last name as the sender. When I send an outbound message the recipient receives the message from login "username" instead of "Firstname Lastname". Anyone know where to change this?
    Thanks,

  • Modify From: field in Mail Inbox view

    So I have what I hope to be a pretty straightforward question, but I can't seem to discover how to change it. I know if must be sitting right under my nose. When I'm viewing my Inbox in Mail, there are emails under the From column that list the senders name and others that list the senders email address. When doing searches in Mail, I like to use a persons name, but that doesn't work for some senders when its their address. I then have to modify the search using their email address. Quite a pain. Is there a way to change this or modify those emails that list the email versus the name in the From column? I have the user in my Address book and would have thought that is how Mail tags someone. Thanks in advance for your help.

    No help for the lost, eh?

  • How can one get/set ReplyTo field in mail message via GW API?

    Hi!
    Can anyone help me with that, please?

    You can not with the Object API.
    There is no plan to add the support to the Object API.
    You would have to use the SOAP API.
