Setting geofences in Reminders in ios 5.1?

Hi,
I have read that ios 5.1 now allows you to set a reminder based on a geofence, but I don't see how to do it.
I know what a geofence is, I have used them in a location based app (LocationMinder), but I would like to do this with the Reminder app. It would be great if it let you select a location on a map and then set a radius from that location. If that funtionality is there please point out how to use it.
Any helpful info is welcome.

I guess I've been through the process you described. I was hoping that reminders would tie into the map app to allow us to pick a spot on the map (as other aps do), but I guess that isn't the case.
Besides, I wouldn't refer to this as geofencing if you can't define a distance (radius) from the target location.
It's a real pain to have a contact for each location I may someday want to set a reminder for.
Guess I'll use other apps for this purpose, or wait for reminders to add the map option.

HI, if I did this, then I believe that I cloud would then hold my info which I don't want. Is that the case? The reason is that I'm an old git, therefore used to not giving out info. Would I be right?

Is there a way to specify a sorting order in Notes and Reminders in IOS 7? Although Notes and Reminders now sink with Outlook (via an Exchange server,) they seem to appear in a random order.

If you're on an iPhone and you pull down on the unsorted reminder list, it exposes a Search box and an alarm clock. If you select the alarm clock, it puts the reminders in ascending chonological order grouped by date -- e.g., "Today", "Thursday, September 26", etc. with the caption "Scheduled" at the top.

I can set location based reminders with location restrictions turned off, but I want them on. Otherwise if I lost or if somebody stole my iPhone they could just turn off the find my iPhone function. If you have birthdays setup in your Contacts app:
iPhone/iPad/iPod:
1. Check Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Default Alert Times > Birthdays > set your default time here.
2. In Calendar app > Calendars (bottom centre) > OTHER > make sure Birthdays is selected.
Mac:
Calendar app > Preferences... >
General > Show Birthdays calendar > make sure it is selected.
Alerts > Birthdays > set your birthdays default time here

That's up to you, if you want to use it on a cellular network and make good pictures, go for the iPhone.
If you want to use the internet and listen to music, go for the iPod

No badge alert on setting icon when the new ios update is released

Hi all,
I use iphone 5. I found that a badge is not shown on the setting icon when a new ios update is released. Only way letting me know that there is an update is manual check update, i.e. go to setting->general->software update. I think, normally, the badge should present automatically on the setting icon everytime the update is released. Does anyone find this problem? How to solve this?

I have the exact same problem. Been searching Google for answers but have found none :-(
I upgraded from an iPhone 4s to 5 recently. I had the Settings badge show up right after I got the phone, but after I got home and did a restore from backup to get my 4s stuff over to the 5, then no more badge notification.
I can't find any settings anywhere to help with this.

Hello pootieq, iCloud is an awesome feature for backing up your phone info. Have you checked your iCloud settings to ensure the Backup option for contacts is enabled http://vz.to/1E1kigx? You can also check the iCloud page via browser to review your backed up phone content at www.apple.com/icloud.

One other thing you could try is to type the name or partial URL of the tab you want to duplicate in a new tab. Safari will use your history to give you suggestions, which may or may not be less than 7 taps:
Open a new tab using "+" button.
Tap in address view to bring up keyboard.
Start typing part of the title or URL of the tab to duplicate.
Tap the search result that matches.
Obviously Step 3 may require multiple keyboard taps, so it may be more than 7, and this won't guarantee to duplicate the URL exactly if you have a lot of pages open with similar titles or URLs (or from the same web site), but I thought I'd offer it as an alternative.

Why Won't Reminders for iOS Sync with iCloud?

I've been forced to use iCloud for Reminders now that I've upgraded to Mac OS X Mountain Lion. Because Reminders & Calendar share a checkbox on Mountain Lion, I've been forced to use iCloud for that, too, because once that checkbox is checked, Calendar refuses to sync with my phone via iTunes.
Now, the sole reason I've done this is to sync Reminders between my iPhone 4 and my iMac, but no matter what I try, after the initial sync when iCloud is set up, changes to my Reminders (additions, edits, etc.) refuse to make it to iCloud. I know because I've added and changed numerous reminders in the last few days, and none of those changes show up on iCloud.com. So this is an issue between iOS and iCloud's servers.
This has been going on since I upgraded OS X and enabled iCloud last weekend, and the only time I've managed to resolve it was by doing this:
1. Backing up all my Calendar & Reminders data
2. Turning off iCloud for Calendar and Reminders on both my iPhone and iMac (making certain to preserve the Reminders stored on my iPhone, which had the most recent changes)
3. Deleting all the Reminders shown on iCloud.com
4. Turning iCloud back on for both devices.
I'm not sure if all these steps were necessary (especially deleting the Reminders from iCloud.com), but the even if the other 3 steps are, it is unacceptable to me (and anyone with half a brain) to need to turn iCloud off and back on every time I want a backup of my iPhone's Reminders on a different device (in case I lose the iPhone or it is destroyed).
In case anyone was wondering, I've already tried all the troubleshooting steps at http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4000. I'm running the latest version of OS X Mountain Lion with all applicable updates, and my iPhone is running the latest version of iOS 6 (6.1.3) that Apple will allow me to have. Yes, that means I haven't patched the SSL bug, but I'm rarely away from home, and when I am, I am rarely somewhere with accessible (not locked) wi-fi. In addition, my home network is secured and running good encryption, so I'm not worried. I just turn my wi-fi off when away from home.
Oh, and upgrading to iOS 7 is out of the question at this point in time, because I don't like it (especially the look and the combined Address/Search bar in Safari, among other things) and I'm concerned about battery life/performance. Also, I've seen a class-action lawsuit going around right now regarding the fact that iOS 7 can potentially fry the Broadcomm wireless chip in older iPhones (i.e. mine).
So, with all this info in mind, can someone help me?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Check that all your contacts are in your primary iCloud group, only contacts in this group will sync with your primary iCloud account.
In the example above I have a secondary iCloud account, but you might also see a 'On My Phone' group.

Sync reminders with IOS devices

Since upgrading to OSX Lion and IOS5 on Iphone and Ipad, I am able to sync reminders using Icloud between IOS devices, but not my Mac.

Hmmm. I do believe that Apple has set it up so that tasks sync in reminders in my iOS device, so that would be something to do with Apple, don't you think?

First, where can a person post a wish list for an iOS app, such as Reminders?
For discussion: I really like how Reminders will put Tasks into Outlook, which I'm forced to use at work.
I would like the ability to reorder the Tasks by dragging and type in landscape mode.

I have a similiar but slightly different problem. My badge won't go away in iCloud unless I "activate" it. This affects both Calendar and Reminders apps and only in iCloud. When I first log in, if I have no reminders I get this odd default # of calendar alerts and reminders. If I create an event that sets off an alert, the badge for the calendar will reset to 0 like its supposed to. If I do the same with a reminder, then the badge for the Reminders will reset to 0 like its supposed to.
Really, really annoying for apps that I use constantly. Unfortunately there's not really a good, simple replacement that doesn't require some other cloud service. Also, I do have one shared calendar and one shared reminder list.

I bought an ipad saturday. Sunday i upgraded to ios 7. Once completed, i turned it back on and was working fine. Late that night, I asked to put a passcode but i never set up for one. It didn't asked to put a new passcode when it was upgrading. No i can't get to the screen until i put the 4 digits code. Please help... thanks

There are three things you can do.
1) Type 0000. That is normally the standard passcode, or try 1234.
2) Do a reset by holding the on/off and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears.

HT202297 iCloud calendar unable to set events with reminders that work, despite ignoring the error message

I am using Outlook 2007, Windows 7, updated iCloud Control Panel. 2 office computers and multiple mobile devices are sharing Calendar/Contacts/Tasks. One office computer, and the mobile devices seem to have no issue setting up a new calendar event with a reminder - the reminder goes off as planned, syncs with iCloud, and is picked up by the other office computer and mobile devices.
My office computer can create iCloud calendar events, but when i attempt to set a reminder it gives me the 'The reminder for xxx will not appear because the item is in a folder that doesn't support reminders. Is this OK?' message. The help section on this site states that I can just ignore that, and the reminders will still be set up and work nonetheless. They don't. I also notice that despite being inside the iCloud calendar, as opposed to the local Outlook calendar on my PC, it still gives me the option to 'Move to iCloud,' as if I wasn't creating the event in iCloud. Yet if I set a new reminder, the event sticks, syncs with iCloud and will pop up on other devices. If I click the 'Move to iCloud' option that oddly appears in the created calendar event, it glitches out and crashes outlook. Tried this multiple times, and, oddly enough, one time it rebooted Outlook and seemed to be creating iCloud calendar events with reminders just fine. The 'Move to iCloud' option had disappeared and the reminders would stick. After the next computer restart, I was back to square one and it would no longer accept calendar reminders and the 'Move to iCloud option was back.
The reminder seems to the the only function that doesn't work. I've re-installed iCloud Control Panel, restarted all involved applications and the computer. There seems to be a partial disconnect from the iCloud calendar in my Outlook and the iCloud calendar; some functions work fine and sync, some are glitchy and do not function properly, and it is only this one device out of 2 PCs, an iPhone, and an iPad that has issues.
Any ideas?

Hi Paul,
I don't know about your phone, but on my Droid Pro, there is a little round white button underneath the battery, press that with a stylus, or the tip of a pen, then reassemble the phone and turn it on. That's all there is to it. I didn't have to re-configure anything. Check your user manual for your reset button location, it's probably in the section on troubleshooting.
