Setting Image Capture defaults.

I use Image Capture to do all my scanning. In Snow Leopard, I had the default file type set to PDF and the default file location set to desktop. When I first used image capture in Mountain Lion, the default file type was JPEG and the default file location was the picture folder. I changed the defaults to match what I had in Snow Leopard. However, each time I open Image Capture, The default file type stays on PDF but the default file location reverts to the picture folder. Anyone know how to keep the default file location set to desktop?

Do a backup.
Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.Image_Capture.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart the computer, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

  • Image Capture Default Scan Resolution

I have researched how to change the default scan resolution in Image Capture. Everything I have found thus far either doesn't work or references a preference file that does not seem to exist on my machine. Current OS  is 10.5.8. I had the plist file (com.apple.ImageCaptureApp.plist) open in BBEdit and noticed that when I Quit the application "Image Capture" the setting for ICScannerPresScanResulation switched from 300 to 150 immediately.

OK, look for some of these files...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.Image_Capture.XXXXXXXXX X.plist
Also, it seems that some Scanners store the Default Rez in them, might see if setting that is an option for yours.

  • Setting image resolution default to pixels/cm?

    Hi all,
A small question:  is there a way to set PS CS5's default for image resolution to pxels/cm?
In Preferences (with no file open), I've set rulers to mms, and whatever I can I've changed from pixels/inch to pixels/cm.  But when I open an image, and go into Image/Image Size, the dimensions show up in mms but the resolution is still always shown as pixels/inch.  Yeah, it's just a single step to drop the option down and change to pixels/cm, but I've got a few hundred images to edit (and manually - they're all in different locations!)  And it is just easier for what I'm doing to work in cms - it's a consistent 68 pixels/cm, which is easier to set than 172.72 pixels/inch.
Any way to make PS CS5 default to pixels/cm, please?  Thanks for any help.

Try setting to cm's instead of mm's in the preferences under ruler units.
One thing, if you change the ruler units on the rulers themselves, then
you might get a different unit in the image size dialog.

  • Image capture doesn't recognize iphone

    OS X 10.7.4, iphoto 11, iphone 4, ios 5.xx
-I have photos on iphone that are not in photo stream, and videos as well, that I want to download
-image capture does not recognize the iphone as a device when I launch it. It does not autostart even though I set the IMAGECAPTURE option in iPhoto preferences
    -itunes does see the phone
-iphoto does not see the phone and does not have the missing images - I cannot manually import anything from any device
-Activity monitor shows a new copy of ptpcamera each time I plug in the iPhone to the USB cable
    -restarting iPhone/iTUnes/iPhoto/Mac have no effect
Something changed with the latest iPhoto/iTunes combination

Found the resolution in another thread. Have to go to iPhoto preferences and set Image Capture to open when a camera is plugged in. Then it should auto start.

  • Hot to perminantly disable image capture?

    Hey all,
I am using a bretford cart to manage 30 iPad's at once. We are having a problem with image capture poping up every time we plug in an iPad. I know people are going to be quick to point out that you can set image capture to do nothing with that device. But the problem is that every time we plug in an iPad it thinks it is the first time it's ever been connected. So no there is way to predifine a selected behavior pattern for it ahead of time.  Is there a way to simply disable image capture that has been built in to the O.S. ? We will never need to export photos from a device on this machine so the image capture feature simply isn't needed.

Delete it from that machine. That's the only way I know. When you want to restore it, copy it from another machine running the same OS version.

  • Image Capture scans the whole bed?

How can I set Image Capture to scan only the document?
It scans the whole scanning bed and is adjusting my printed page so that it shrinks the image terribly. I make doll patterns so this is important to me to scan close to the size I draw. We can do it on my husband's windows laptop *shudder* but not my brand new Apple computer.
This is the least user-friendly system I've used since I bought my first Apple computer in 1993.

  • Stop image capture from opening when iphone is connected ?

how do i get "image capture" to stop auto opening when i connect my iphone ?
i have set image capture to open when i connect a camera, but i don't want it to open when i connect the iphone.
    is this possible ?

    Chenks,
The way you have it set, Image Capture will open whenever it detects photos that have been taken with the iPhone. To prevent it, you can just import the photos you've taken with the iPhone to your computer and then erase them off the phone (you can then sync them back to the phone if you want them), or you can set Image Capture to not open when any camera is connected. That will apply to other digital cameras as well as the iPhone.
    Hope this helps,
    Jennifer B.

  • How to print from Image Capture Scan Overview

Image Capture 2.1.4, on Powerbook G4, with Mac OS 10.3.9, can take an Overview, low-resolution prescan from my scanner. I could then choose to print the prescanned image.
This allowed for a fairly convenient copy facility, but with preview before printing.
No image save was necessary or desired.
With Image Capture 4.0, on Macbook Pro, with Mac OS 10.5.5, print of the prescanned image includes the entire Image Capture panel (Scan mode, bit depth, resolution, format, etc.)
Why do I want to print all that?
Is there a way with Leopard to set Image Capture to print just the scanner image without the panel and without image save?
    Thanks,
    Wrekngcrew

I wish I had an answer...I'd like to know how to just print something from Image Capture instead of generating a file, then having to print it from Preview....

  • Image Capture and iphoto

I set image capture to download photos from my iphone. The setting in icapture said to delete photos after capturing. The download started as ususl deleting photos and videos but when the iphoto screen came on the message sais no photos were captured because there is no room in the iphoto library. Now the images are deleted from my camera and they have not been captured to iphoto. Is there a way to retrieve these images, and why is there no warning that the library is too full before deleting the images?

1 - it is strongly recommended that you never have a computer automatically delete photos - things do go wrong and as you just found out when they do you lose things unless you have a backup (in this case the photos remaining on your iPhone)
2 - Is your drive really too full? How much free space do you have on your disk? You need to have a minimum of 10GB at all times for the system to operate properly  --  if you have less than that then your first priority is to fix that - either delete un-needed files, get an external hard drive for large files like the iPhoto library or install a larger hard drive in your computer

  • Setting Adobe Acrobat as a scan destination in Image Capture?

Is there a way of setting Adobe Acrobat as the default scan destination in Image Capture?

Yes, I can do that...but is there a way of setting it as a default?..so that it pops up in the main choices...(alongside Preview, Aperture, etc) so that I don't have to go and look for it every time.

  • How to Set up Print As Image Registry Default.

This is a response to the archived post at:
martin hrubes, "How to customize printing by registry - print as image" #, 6 Nov 2007 2:28 am
I was trying to find out how to set the "Print As Image" advanced setting to be enabled by default. Here is what I discovered through trial and error.
    1. The setting is stored per user and per printer. (i.e. it has to be set for each printer for each user.)
    2. The registry setting is stored in the following key:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\8.0\General\cPrintAsImage]
    3. In this key, each printer has a separate binary value named s0, s1, s2, etc. The number increments by 1 for each printer added. If you open the value data, you will see it contains the name of the printer encoded in hex. (ex. hex coded for \\Server\Printer1)
My recomendation is to open a pdf file in reader, go to File -> Print ->Select Desired Printer -> Click "Advanced" Options -> Enable "Print As Image" -> Click OK - Click OK again. Repeat for each printer you want to
    change.
**NOTE** If you don't click OK both times (i.e. cancel the print dialog), the change will not be saved. You have to actually print something to the printer. If you don't want to print something, make sure the printer is offline or not accessible (unplug the network, usb, parallel, serial cable) first. Once the printer has been changed, it will keep the setting until to you change it.
After you have set-up all of the desired printers, open RegEdit and navigate to the above key. Right click on it, and export it. Note the file name and location you are saving to. Close RegEdit. "Edit" (Right Click) the file just exported ("Opening" the file will just import it back into the registry.). Once opened, highlight and copy the registry key and all of the registry values. Paste the key and values at the end of the file. In one of the keys change "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\" to "HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\". Save and exit the file.
When imported this file will enable the "Print As Image" setting for the currently logged in user plus add the setting to the default users profile so any new users to the machine will have it enabled by default also. However, it will not add it to any other user profiles that already exist on the computer. To do this, either use a login script for domain computers or add the reg file to the "All Users Startup" folder.
It would be nice to have a setting in the deployment custimazation wizard to handle this, but for now we're stuck with enabling it the hard way.

Yes Spyla, please see this link http://www.404techsupport.com/2008/09/09/make-adobe-reader-and-adobe-acrobat-use-print-as- image-setting-by-default-2/comment-page-1/#comment-3112.
Allan, many thanks for your post, it certainly helped point me in the right direction.  what I found though is that you do not need to tick the print as image box at any point during the setting up of this.  All you need to do is add the registry key for whichever version of Adobe you are using for this to work.  So basically. what you are saying for each instance of Adobe is regardless of whether or not the print as image is selected, the registry key is saying always print as image for the printer as specified by the hex code. I have found that for network printers, you have to include the full path i.e. \\<servername>\<printername> e.g \\testserver\printer1 and convert all of that to hex. With later versions (9 up over), they have allowed for the string name of the printer so that it is just plain text which also makes life easier.
What I do is apply this registry entry via Group Policy on a per room basis so that we only ever need to add one printer to the list.  you could do this globally by adding all printers sequentially using s0, s1, s2 or t0, t1, t2 etc depending on which version you are using.  The screenshot shows the registry key for 1 printer for Adobe Reader 8.
The value data is the binary code for the actual full printer name
    This works a treat.
    Hope this helps
    Thanks

  • Image Capture resolution setting screwed up

Running Mavericks 10.9.5 on an iMac 27" with 3.6 GHz Core i5.
All of the sudden while scanning with  Image Capture, the pull down menu for setting the resolution is screwed up. It flicker and scrolls through all the potential values from 50 to 12,800 but won't let me pick any value.
The scanner is an Epson 2450 and I attached it to another computer and it works just fine using Image Capture there.
I'm not sure if this is a problem with Image Capture or the Epson driver, but something got corrupted.
    Any ideas?

  • Why does TextEdit revert to Helvetica 12 even after you set a new default font whenever you drop an image into an RTFD?

Anyone know a workaround for when TextEdit reverts to Helvetica 12 even after you set the new default to say Verdana 14 every time your drop an image into an RTFD? Kind of defeats the purpose! Is there a way around this? THANKS!

Among the alternatives not mentioned... Using a TiVo DVR, rather than the X1; a Roamio Plus or Pro would solve both the concern over the quality of the DVR, as well as providing the MoCA bridge capability the poster so desperately wanted the X1 DVR to provide. (Although the TiVo's support only MoCA 1.1.) Just get a third-party MoCA adapter for the distant location. Why the hang-up on having a device provided by Comcast? This seems especially ironic given the opinions expressed regarding payments over time to Comcast. If a MoCA 2.0 bridge was the requirement, they don't exist outside providers. So couldn't the poster have simply requested a replacement XB3 from the local office and configured it down to only providing MoCA bridging -- and perhaps as a wireless access point? Comcast would bill him the monthly rate for the extra device, but such is the state of MoCA 2.0. Much of the OP sounds like frustration over devices providing capabilities the poster *thinks* they should have.
