Setting inside margins

I am unable to reset the inside margins on an existing document.  Editing "Document Preset" for inside margin has no effect on the document - I can change the numbers to any value with no effect on the document.  Changing gutter has no effect.  I have tried setting margins in the master pages, also no effect.  I can change margins by right click on an existing text frame (text frame options), but this only allows setting left or right frame margins for the whole document.

Let me amplify Willi's comment...
After the initial creation of the file, Document setup can be used to change the page size and bleed/slug settings, but that's all. There should be no access at all in an exisiting file to margins or columns from anywhere but the Layout menu. Depending on what page is active, changing the margins will affect only an active document page or group of selected pages inthe pages panel, or a selected master page and any masters based on it if you have a master page active. Changing the master page will only update margins on the documetn page if you have not previously adjusted them directly.

    Print View workarounds
    Numbers has never had Page Breaks. The Numbers approach is to have several tables, each with a purpose. For example, an input table, a number crunching table, and a "Presentation" table to summarise results.
    If your quotation runs to six pages, perhaps you could have 6 tables designed so that each fits within a layout guide:
    Layout Guide for Numbers
    Option 2, if you previously had Numbers 2.3 (Numbers '09) it now lives in a folder called iWork '09 inside your Applications folder. It works just as well as it used to, and has a proper Print View.
    Option 3, copy and paste your table to Pages where I believe the layout is easier to arrange (maybe).

  • Why won't Pages set uneven margins for binding a booklet?

    I have set up a booklet, mostly with pictures, with a page size of 5.5 x 8.5. I want a wider inside margin for binding the booklet. Pages 09 lets me select this margin, but it doesn't appear on the screen. I am planning to have this booklet printed by a professional printer, not on my own printer. How can I make this work?
    I am using 10.6.8.

    Beth,
    First, I suspect from your picture that you may be working with a Page Layout document, which would seem appropriate for the subject matter. In that case, margins are pretty much irrelevant because they apply to the main text layer, which doesn't exist. All objects in Page Layout are floating and can be positioned anywhere, including off the page. You just center the left pages on (in your example) on a layout line 4" from the left edge of the page and the right pages on a line at 4 ½."
    It's a little hard to see from your photo, but the ruler measurements don't seem to have any relationship to your page so there may be some other issue here. (If you type Command Shift 4, you get a cursor which you can drag across the screen to capture a screenshot, which will be easier and more readable.)

  • How to set printer margins if using a lot of printers in virtual desktops which are deleted each time users logs off

    Hello,
    i am using Firefox version 31. I have a problem with page setup margins. I need to use left
    30mm; right 10mm; top 20mm; bottom 20mm. I am using VMware floating assignemnt linked clones
    virtual desktops. After users log off - machines are deleted and users next time logs on get's brand
    new VDI's. Users gets printers to VDI using login script from Active Directory.
    Option Explicit
    Dim strPrinterUNC, objNetwork
    strPrinterUNC = "\\some_server\printer_number_1"
    Set objNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network")
    objNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection strPrinterUNC
    WScript.Sleep (20000)
    objNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter strPrinterUNC
    Set objNetwork = Nothing
    Each user have different logon script, because they use different printers (different printer names e.g. \\some_server\printer_number_2 ; \\some_server\printer_number_3 and etc. Page setup margins in Internet Explorer are ok. But how to make Firefox page setup margins as i need? For other options i have
    used CCK2 Wizard 2.0.4 tool. It worked fine. Maybe i can put some information in C:\Program
    Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref\autoconfig.js I have some usefull data in it allready. I
    have found info that: "Setting print margins is done in the printer settings". I have a lot of
    printers, so i can not set printer margins individualy for each of them. Now mozilla shows top,
    bottom, right, left each 12.7 mm. What should i do if i have a lot of printers in enterprise
    environment?

    Firefox has a profile folder that has preferences to save this. But the config that would need to be changed is:
    print. save_print_settings = True - (default): Save the print settings after each print job
    Locking that preference: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locking_preferences]
    Or done manually:
    #In order to check the margins, we need to go to ''File'' > ''Page Setup''.
    #Once this is done, switch to the ''Margins & Header/Footer'' tab.
    #Check what's set there under ''Margins''.
    The following are the default values for ''Margins'':
    Check these values accordingly and change them if necessary.

  • How do I set the margins for a book in ibook author

    I am fairly new to Ibooks author and am having trouble figuring out how to set my margins to follow throughout the book.  I am making the book in landscape mode and want the hardcopy version to be 11 x 8.5.  I need the left margin to be set at 2.5 and no matter what I have done it skews the following pages.  I will publish this online but since this is going to be a family history book, I am going to have to export it eventually to PDF and send it to a printer.  Does anyone know how to change these settings?

    Thank you.  I just like the possibilities associated with Ibooks author.  But I will do that and maybe later transfer that data to Ibooks.
    Thanks again.

  • PDF Export: How to set bottom margin to 0

    Greetings,
    I am new to Crystal and I did  not see this question on the forums, so please forgive me, if this topic has been covered elsewhere.
    I am using Crystal Reports Standalone, XI R2 (product version 11.5.0.313). I am exporting a report to PDF and I need a company  logo to sit at the very bottom of the page, with no white space/border/margin showing.
    I was able to get the graphic image to "stretch" to the left and right , by picking a printer that allows for 0 margins. This fixed the issue with the left and the right, but i still get a small white border at the bottom of the page.
    I have tried too many tricks to mention here., and none get rid of the bottom space/margin.
    Is it possible to achieve this with Crystal? If so, I would be grateful for the steps to accomplish this.
    NOTE: We are not able to upgrade or download service packs at this time, due to environment constraints. If this is something that is fixed in a service pack or future release, please tell me and I can relay that information to those with the authority to upgrade.
    Thanks.

    Everybody is new sometime, and it is not always easy for find what you are searching for.
    Try going to FILE \ Page Setup and set your margins.

  • How can I set mirror margins (or "facing pages") in 5.0?

    I recently updated by Mac System to Maverick just so I could update to the new version of Pages. In so doing, I gave up my old MS word program (because it was outdated for this system). But Pages did most of those things I needed.
    HOWEVER
    Now, I am trying to format a .pdf file to publish a book and I CANNOT see how to set "mirror margins" or "facing pages" in order to properly format my book. What happened to this feature (and what the **** was Pages thinking when they dropped this feature, if they did?).
    I saw another post that suggested trashing Pages 5.0 and getting the old version out of a folder and using it (not sure I can now that I'm running Maverick).
    Do I need to go buy a new version of MS Word so that I can format books now?
    Help!
    (And I need it right NOW).
    Thanks,
    Lareena

    Both Pages '09 and Pages '08 work with Mavericks.

  • Set inside a Set and powerset problem. Need help.

    I've done other posts about this but I figured I'd start a new thread since I changed it so much. I understand the idea of power sets but not how it needs to be a Set inside a set and also how to get this thing to run. If anyone could show me a power set generator or help me fix my code I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance
    public static <E> Set<Set <E>> generatePowerSet(Set<E> S){
              Set<E> newSet = new HashSet<E>();
              Set<E> temp = new HashSet<E>();
              if (S.isEmpty() || S.equals("")) {
                   Set<E> emptySet = new HashSet<E>(S);
                   return (Set<Set<E>>) emptySet;
              else {
                   Iterator<E> iter = S.iterator();
                   temp = S;
                   while (iter.hasNext()) {
                        E obj = iter.next();
                        temp.remove(obj);
                        Set<E> P = new HashSet<E>(temp);
                        P.addAll(temp);
                        newSet.addAll(P);
                        return newSet;
              }

    I have no idea what a "power set" is.
    But, this line:
    if (S.isEmpty() || S.equals("")) {should just be:
    if (S.isEmpty()) {S is the input parameter, and is a Set. Therefore, S can never equal an empty string.
    Did you see my reply to your previous thread?
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=677353
    It seems that you didn't, because you didn't respond to it, and because your current code has the same problem.

  • How to set page margins in Numbers 3

    I just migrated from MS Excel after decades of use. I can't find out how to set page margins using the new Numbers 3 version. I believe I've exhausted all reference materials and the most relevant was an method in Numbers 8 & 9... both of which have a different top menu selection.  The answer is probably right in front of me and simple as it sometimes happens when learning new software...

    Hi caforestfire,
    There is no direct equivalent to page margins in Numbers 3.0. It's more oriented toward sharing on the web and on iPad screens than toward traditional printing.
    However, there are ways to achieve the effect of margins.  The idea is to first position your content (tables, charts, etc) on the canvas of a sheet, using rulers and guides if you want (you can drag the rulers onto the canvas to help in placement):
    Then you File>Print and in Print Preview fiddle with the slider until you get the white space you want around your content:
    Then click Print.
    For many purposes it works quite well. It's just a different approach from what we're used to in Excel, and the old Numbers 2.3.

  • How to set vertical margins

    I know we can set layout margins both for before and after certain section. The problem is that it doesn't define the margins for the whole pages. If you take a look at my example http://cl.ly/53Xe, you can see that I have some large margins in the beginning of my chapter, but in the following pages I lose those same margins. *How can I set fixed vertical margins throughout the document?*

    Thanks for the feedback, Joe. Sometimes when the answer seems so obvious it means that we have misread the question. Knowing if we made a correct assumption is helpful.

  • Set new margins for preformatted spreadsheet

    How do I set margins on a spreadsheet that came from a PC Excel to Numbers> It is preformatted for a statistics class.  I also need to set up 2 sided printing.  I also usually get a screen to do 2 sided from my printer, however that for some reason is not an option.
    When I see it to work on it the page is perfect however when I look at preview document one column goes off the page.  I try to make the columns smaller, but that makes the formulas not work properly.  Help!

    Hi robin,
    You really haven't supplied a lot more information about what is not working. I have no idea what you mean by "I lose some calculation forms."
    Going from memory, spiral binding requires a margin of about 1/2 inch; coil binding requires about 3/8 inch.
    Jerry has already answered the question regarding duplex (two sided) printing.
    Regarding shrinking the table to fit a page: Numbers has a nifty feature in Print View—at the bottom of the window (in Print View only) there's a slider to use to Scale Contents. It makes no change to the content of the table except to increase or reduce the size of everything on the page. Set your margins, then go to the View menu and Show Print View. Move the slider to the left until the whole table appears on a ingle page.

  • How to set bottom margin on pages

    how do I set bottom margins on pages document.  The printer always cuts it off

    That may just be part of your printer's non-printable area.
    Most printers do not print right to the edge with a large margin at the bottom of the sheet.
    To find out exactly where your printer prints, make a grey box to fill your entire page then print that, The white margins are non-printing.

    You didn't mention any color calibration being done on your monitor.  This is an essential part of any color-correct workflow.  What are you using to calibrate your monitor (and your printer)?
    Print profiles (for soft-proofing as well as printing) are for specific combinations of paper & printer.  The nine you have are each, most likely, for a common paper (perhaps mfr'd by Canon) to be used with your printer.
    I don't know what you mean when you say "I choose a high standard print option".
    Have you read the User Manual chapter on printing?

    There is also a good appendix on calibration:

  • Setting print margins

    Hello,
    I'm using javax.print package to print some tif. All goes well, but I have some troubles in setting up margins programmatically. It tells me that MediaPrintableArea is not a supported attribute for the choosen DocFlavor, but I see that the margins change, and they are quite correct! I try with several values and the margins change, but I always get the message.
    Below you can find a piece of code. I snipped the lines that actually send the image to the printer.
    Is this the right way to setup print margins?
    May I be using the ps.getUnsupportedAttributes() incorrectly?
       protected String print() throws Exception {
          StringBuffer result = new StringBuffer();
          PrintService ps =  PrintServiceLookup.lookupPrintServices(DocFlavor.SERVICE_FORMATTED.PRINTABLE, serviceAttribute)[0];
    //---- It is a A4 page (210x296mm)
          MediaPrintableArea mpa = new MediaPrintableArea(15, 25, 185, 251, MediaPrintableArea.MM);
          DocAttributeSet das = new HashDocAttributeSet();
          if ( !ps.isAttributeCategorySupported(MediaPrintableArea.class) ) {
            // Never goes throu these lines
            log.severe("Option not supported by print service"+ps.getName()+" '"+mpa.getName()+"'");
            result.append("Option not supported by print service"+ps.getName()+" '"+mpa.getName()+"'");
          else {
            das.add(mpa);
          AttributeSet nonSupportati = ps.getUnsupportedAttributes(DocFlavor.SERVICE_FORMATTED.PRINTABLE, das);
          if ( nonSupportati!=null && !nonSupportati.isEmpty() ) {
            // Always goes throu these lines
            Attribute a[] = nonSupportati.toArray();
            for ( int i=0; i<a.length; i++ ) {
              log.warning("Option value not supported by "+ps.getName()+" '"+a.getName()+"' = '"+a[i]+"'");
    result.append("Option value not supported by "+ps.getName()+" '"+a[i].getName()+"' = '"+a[i]+"'");
    // Now print: need more code to compile it
    /* SimpleDoc doc = new SimpleDoc(this, DocFlavor.SERVICE_FORMATTED.PRINTABLE, das );
    DocPrintJob pj = ps.createPrintJob();
    pj.print(doc, requestAttribute);
    pj = null;*/
    return result.toString();
