Setting internet mailbox as "from" address

I have a secure anonymous e-mail address as part of a standard e-mail account. The anonymous address is accessible only with a web browser through the password-protected e-mail account. So there is no password associated with the anonymous account and I can't figure out how to use it as a customized return address.
I often want to send e-mail that has an anonymous return address (easy to do with Eudora). Is there any way to accomplish this with Apple Mail?
Thanks!

Golden Shoes,
You've got it right. The only current access to my anonymous e-mail account is via the web through the major account. So, as you understand, I can't therefore set up Mail with the anonymous e-mail address. I could make it the "reply to" address, but the sending address would still be visible (and I'd no longer be anonymous).
Eudora, which now seems pretty flaky on the new Macs, did at least allow using the anonymous e-mail address as a "sent from" option so that people could reply to it. I could use my own name but wouldn't have to see the replies if I didn't want to.

• Setting up mailboxes for alias addresses

I can't see how in the Rules it's possible to direct a particular alias email address into a particular mailbox - it only appears to allow for instance all POP addresses, not just one of them. I want to be able to direct mail from my primary account address into one mailbox and from the alias address into another (and be able to send mail from both).

Not sure what your problem really is. It seems pretty straightforward to me:
If [any/all] of the following conditions are met:
[Any Recipient] [Contains] address
Perform the following actions:
[Move Message] to mailbox [Mailbox]

• Setting a Custom Gmail "From" Address in iPhone Mail

I'm trying to set a different "From" or "Reply-to" address in the iPhone Mail app when using my Gmail account. I want the messages I send out to look like I've sent it from another e-mail account and not my gmail account. I tried the way Gmail recommends: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=81375# but that doesn't seem to work. It might be a different function with the iPhone 3G/iPhone 2.0 software.
Anyone know of a workaround?

Jrags, you can do this by setting up your email on your iPhone not using the "Gmail" option under "Add account" but rather the "Other" option." You can then specify the "from" address you want. You then also have to enter all the settings yourself for the Gmail incoming and outgoing servers.
While in general it works just fine, there is one quirk you should know about. When you set it up this way, and you also choose to have the copies of the messages you have sent saved on the Gmail server, it can take up to 24 hours for them to appear there. If you save the copies of your outgoing messages on your iPhone they are saved instantly.

• Can I set a default Reply-From email address on my iPad/iPhone?

In Mail for the Mac, there is an option under the Compose settings to set a default Reply-From email address for all your emails, so that, regardless of which account any email came from, you will always reply by default from one specific address. Is there a way to set a default Reply-From address on the iPad/iPhone?

[EDIT: Sorry, mis-read question. Ignore me.]

• Can we change the from address displayed in gmail

Hi,
I am using javamail to send mails from gmail account. I was able to change the from name in e- mail with the name
I specified. But can I use javamail to change the from address displayed in gmail ? If its possible please tell me how.
Urgent requirement in my project. Please help.
Example.
Now its displayed like this.
specifiedName<mail id from which campaigns are sent>
I want to change it to
specifiedName <specified email id> [ I want to mask the original id]

JavaMail will let you set the From address to whatever you want, but Gmail might
not let you send a message with a From address that doesn't match the account
you're using for sending, or it might override the From address you set to be the
From address corresponding to the account.
The best approach is to send the message from an account that matches the
From address. If you can't do that, you probably need another ISP or your own
mail server that will allow you to specify whatever you want.

• Setting the From Address for Reply in Mail

I am having trouble setting the default “From” address for replies in Mail. When I click on “Reply” the new window opens with a default mail address I do not wish to use. This can be changes by going into the drop down box and setting a different one. This is time consuming and it is easy to send from an inappropriate address.
“Help” menu says that the default address ( top one in the drop down box) can be changed and gives these instructions:
Set the From address
Your messages are sent from the account of the currently selected mailbox. If you have multiple email accounts, you can specify a different account to use for sending all messages, or select an account just for the message you’re writing.
To specify the account to use for sending all messages, choose Mail > Preferences, click Composing, and then choose an account from the “Send new messages from” pop-up menu.
To specify an account just for the message you’re writing, click the From pop-up menu, and then choose an email address.
To change the order in which addresses are listed in the pop-up menu, reorder the addresses in the “Email address” field in the Account Information pane of Mail account preferences.
When I open the Mail Account Preferences and go to Account Information there is no list of addresses in the “Email address” just the one for the particular account highlighted in the left column eg. “[email protected]” or “[email protected]” .
I tried to move the order of the accounts in the left hand box but nothing wants to move. Clicking and holding to push one account over another seems not to work.
Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this?
NB: This is about "Reply". Default for "New Message" is setting fine.

i found out how to do this finally!
1) set up google gmail account to forward your emails to (from the [email protected])
2) go to your gmail account
3) go to settings (cog in right hand corner)
4) go to 'accounts and import'
5) go to 'send mail as'
6) click 'Add another email address you own' - add your [email protected] address
7) google will send a verification email with code to that email address.
8) enter code
9) go back to gmail account >'send mail as' and select 'make default'
10) close mac 'mail' program and reopen it.
as long as you have gmail account selected as the primary account in MAIL - mail will now come throught as being sent from that [email protected] address!!

• Set Reply-To for Shared Mailbox Using Existing Address?

We have a shared mailbox named [email protected] Is there a way to set the reply-to email address for that shared mailbox to [email protected] if [email protected] is an existing mailbox?

No, unfortunately you can not have same Reply-To or Primary SMTP address to two different mailboxes.
Alternatively you can create a transport rule forward a mail to [email protected] if it is addressed to [email protected] or you could set forwarder on mailbox level too...

One possibility is that you may need to "Upgrade" your Cable /DSL Modem if you have an older unit. ISP's that provide your Internet service in recent years have been switching over from DOCSIS 2.1 version Modems to DOCSIS 3.0 version Modems, which handle the new higher data streaming speeds the ISP's are offering. I would suggest you call your ISP's Technical Support and inquire about this possibility.

• How to set email "from" address when sending photo

when I send photos from my iPhone people respond to the wrong address. This just started. How do I switch the FROM address to the correct email address.

The From address you want has to be your default account - you can set this in the Mail settings.

• Setting FROM address on outgoing mail

Can I set the FROM address on all outgoing email to something other than my .MAC account? I want my email to go to a mail forwarding address? I belong to a professional association that provides an email forwarding service to its members, along with spam & antivirus scanning. I have it set to forward automatically to my .MAC account, so Mac Mail 2.x does not have an account record for that holding account. When I was using Outlook on my PC, I was able to set the FROM address on all outgoing messages to my forwarding address. However, now that I'm using Mac Mail rather than outlook, I haven't been able to set email to use that address rather than my Mac Mail address.

I went to the local Apple store earlier this week and asked on of the folks at the Genius Bar if he knew how to set the outgoing mail address. He showed me that I could enable the "reply to" field and then put my mail forwarding address into that field. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to pre-populate that field so that it always has my mail forwarding account address.

• How to set FROM ADDRESS for EMAIL activity in Process Flow

Hi all,
Can any one tell how to set(which address) FROM ADDRESS for EMAIL activity in Process Flow?
Thanks,
Suvvi

Did you set what OWB guide says:
To execute a process flow with an email activity, you may need to access different host machines and ports. New security measures implemented in Oracle Database 11g Release 1 restrict access to hosts and ports. You must explicitly grant access to hosts and ports that the email activity accesses using the DBMS_NETWORK_ACL_ADMIN package.
For example, the user OWBSYS needs to send an email through the mail server mail.example.com using port 25. The DBA must perform the following steps:
1. Create an Access Control List (ACL) for the user OWBSYS using the following command:
EXECUTE DBMS_NETWORK_ACL_ADMIN.CREATE_ACL
(’acl_for_owb_cc.xml’,’ACL for Control Center’,’OWBSYS’,’CONNECT’);
The ACL has no access control effect unless it is assigned to network target.
2. Assign the Access Control List (ACL) to a network host, and optionally specify a TCP port range. Use the following command:
EXECUTE DBMS_NETWORK_ACL_ADMIN.ASSIGN_ACL (’acl_for_owb_cc.xml’,’mail.example.com’,25)
3. Commit the changes made using the COMMIT command.

• Setting default from address

i have a few different e-mail addresses, one for friends and family, one for work, etc. when i start a new message in mail, it seems to choose one of them at random for the "from" address. this is pretty annoying. is there a way to set a default address for all messages?
thanks!

Thanks for the information. I tried out Thunderbird briefly and have some pretty big issues with it. One is that it has its own address book instead of using Mac OS X's address book (having 2 seems like an unnecessary complication even if I can easily export). Another problem is that there seems to be no easy way to export my vast amount of "sent" messages that are archived in my Mail's "sent" folder.
I do, however, like the idea that I can flag a message multiple ways (for example, as "to do"). If the above criticisms are addressed I may well move to Thunderbird. In the meantime, I'm still looking for a solution to my original problem.

• Unable to address internet web provider from inranet portal

Folks,
I'm trying to register an internet web provider from an intranet portal (3.0.9.8.2) but without success. I can call the provider's testpage from my browser but when activating the proxy on provider registration I'll get an error (WWC-43134; java.io.InterruptedIOException: Connection establishment timed out (WWC-43000)
). Do I have to set a proxy option anywhere else than under global settings? The provider servlet is the standard JPDK 3.0.x provider. Is the connection between portal inside and provider outside bi-directional?

Hi Detlef,
You probably don't have permission to access the host on which proxy server resides. Since all calls to remote portlet providers are initiated from Oracle8i JVM which is inside your database, you need to issue
the following command (under SYS): call dbms_java.grant_permission('SYS', 'SYS:java.net.SocketPermission', '*', 'connect,resolve');
This statement lets you access any host from Java classes running in your Oracle8i JVM. Probably you
also need to setup proxy settings for the JVM. Also take a look at trace file in udump directory for your database. It should be full of useful information! ;-)
Hope this helps

• Exchange - Gmail : how to set a REPLY-TO/FROM email address?

I have Gmail setup as a Microsoft Exchange Account, so that it syncs my mail, calendar, and contacts (works great)
BUT - the problem is I never use my @gmail.com address to send mail, in Gmail I have several other addresses set up that I send mail "from". I don't like to get tied down to an ISP or service provider domain in case I want to change one day, so I own my own domain names and use my domain for email.
In my desktop email clients (ie - Thunderbird) I can set the "FROM" address to one of these other addresses, but there is no such option on the iPad.
Is there any way to configure this?
Is this functionality going to be enabled in a future version?
Thank you

No, there is no Reply to: field in iPad Mail. There are some workarounds, though.
First, some have reported doing what you said couldn't be done, i.e., setting some other account as the default. I've never tried that but it shouldn't be difficult to find their descriptions here in the forums.
I only do it on a case-by-case basis, using Mail's way of selecting which email address and outgoing server to use as you start composing the message. That doesn't seem to quite meet your requirements, though.
As for the future, if you'd like your ideas and suggestions to influence it then submit them via the iPad Feedback Form — http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
