Setting iTunes burning preferences

I am unable to set burning preferences in iTunes. When I click on "Burning" under "Advanced" and "Preferences". iTunes freezes. I need to use Task Manager to exit iTunes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, and downloaded updated iTunes releases, to no avail. Windows Media Player and Nero will both burn disks with no problems. Any suggestions?

I have worked out a work around.
1.Close iTunes and Go to your iTunes installation folder
e.g. c:\Program Files\iTunes
2.There is a folder called "CD Configuration", move this folder somewhere outside of the iTunes folder (i put mine on the desktop) (n.b. DO NOT DELETE THIS)
3.Create a new folder and call it "CD Configuration"
4.Start iTunes, now you can edit the Burning preferences
5.Once you have changed your preferences, close iTunes
6.Go back to your iTunes folder and put the CD Configuration folder that you moved out back (thus overwriting the empty one you created in step 3.
Its not the nicest thing you can do, but it allows you to change the burning preferences.

  • Itunes burns all but purchased music

I'm trying to burn a playlist of existing and purchased music, but each time it burns, it excludes the purchased music. I have never burned the purchased music before, so I haven't reached the 7 song limit, and I know I checked those boxes. The suggestions given by itunes haven't helped. The CDs are fine otherwise. Any help is appreciated.

1st check if your purchased music will play on your Mac - maybe you need to authorize those tracks.
2nd check twice if your iTunes Burning Preferences are set to "AudioCD" (or DATA DVD/CD) as purchased music can't be burned to MP3 CDs.

  • ITunes 11.0.4 for Windows keeps restarting and removing my set-up and preferences

iTunes 11.0.4 for Windows keeps restarting and removing my set-up and preferences every time its shut down and re-opened, how can I stop this?
All of the music (etc) is still there but I need to agree to the terms and condition of the 'Software License Agreement for iTunes for Windows' every time I open iTunes.
Once opened there is no personal set-up, such as side menus and how the lists are set-up (e.g showing album images, music listed in ‘most played’ order, etc etc) I know how to re-do all of my settings, Its just getting very annoying now.
Anyone know how to stop this or at least why It is doing it?

I found why it defaults back to the wizard. I noticed in  C:/users/(User)/AppData/Roaming/Apple  Computer/iTunes/iTunesPerfs.xml file is deleted from this directory upon  exiting iTunes. When I manully restore this file itunes starts with my  correct settings. Why the .xml file being deleted I don't know. iTunes is deleting the file when you exit so I guess there is just a bug.

  • I get a message upon launching iTunes that the registry setting for burning are missing.

I get a message upon launching iTunes that the registry setting for burning CDs and DVDs are missing. I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. I didn't touch the registry. iTnes is fine except, of course, I cannot burn songs to CD.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • Resolution to iTunes Burn ID3 issue

Here is one resolution to not getting the ID3 tags when burning in iTunes
Go to edit>preferences>advanced>burning> if the audio CD is checked then your CD will not have the ID3 tags. But it will play in all or most CD players.
To get the ID3 tages you must have Data CD/DVD checked. If the music is bought @ iTunes music store and you give this disk to someone else or put it on one of your other computers you can transfer the music to your iTunes and it will have all the ID3 tags but you will have to autorize that computer to be able to play that music. You can have 3 or 5 computers authorized under your name. This is one of the ways to do it if you are backing up your iTunes.
If you have MP3 checked you will also have the ID3 tags and I am assuming this will take care of the problems people are having using iTunes burned CD in their CD Players that display ID3 Tag info
Hopefully this helps with some of the ID3 tag issues while burning in iTunes.

It overwrites the Artist too, it seems.
Do you know how it is setting the "Podcast is true" setting, and how I can disable that??
This is all very confusing and annoying. iTunes 4.9 didn't do much of this, and it was a better podcast client in my mind. iTunes 5.0 making me consider switching to another podcast client so I can have one that makes sense.

  • ITunes Burn Speed

Everytime I try to burn an Audio CD in iTunes it will always burn at the fastest speed possible. Even if I set the burn speed to 1x. Does anybody have a solution to this problem. I've already tried deleting the preferences file.

To anyone who is interested I think I may have found a possible solution. When you put a blank disc in the drive, wait about 30-60 seconds or so for it to stop spinning before burning.
This seems to work. It's a bit sticky but eventually works. I tried both TDK & Maxwell discs and 9 out of 11 worked. Absolutely no reason why the other 2 didn't, but it's a lot better than none.

  • How can I set iTunes to load "iTunes U = Name of University" at startup?

Is there a way thru preferences, plist, or app contents to make iTunes automatically load a specific URL when starting?

I too would like to set our University as the default iTunes application opening page for our SOE. The only solution (work around) I have to-date is to use the URL or the file generated by dragging and dropping any item in the store to the Finder, then placing this file in useful places such as the account Startup Items, the Dock, web browser's bookmarks etc.
My preference would be to as you suggested make this an iTunes startup preference and have bookmarks within the iTunes application.

  • HT203164 Why would iTunes burn a CD with AIFF files that don't play music?

I have been trying to burn a particular song to a CD to prepare for a performance. I own the song as a purchased song in iTunes, as part of an album. I wanted to brun one for the piano player and one for me to practice to.
I had one fail and was successful the second time. Then I have had several successive failures. I have tried varying the burn preferences a bit.
I am near the end of a large package of CompUSA brand CD-R media.
The weird thing is, the discs that are "failures" have AIFF files on them and when you GET INFO on them they read normal file sizes. But, when you try to play them in iTunes they take about one second to play with no sound. In a CD player you just get an error code.
I have tried burning at the "maximum possible" speed, which is the default, and at 8X and I have tried unchecking the "CD Text" option. I have also changed the seconds bewtween songs option. No difference.
Over the last two years, going through this large package of CD-R's, I am used to getting occasional failures. I just would toss the disc and then the next one would be good. But those would have nothing on them. Do you think this is bad media, a bad optical drive, or something else?
BTW, the computer is a 2008 15" MacBook Pro, running 10.7.5, and iTunes 10.7(21).
    Thanks!

Strictly speaking an audio CD is not  AIFF files, it's a 30 year old standard called Red Book.
I would say bad media is likely.  Normally I'm all for generics, except in optical media you really risk coasters.  I have Dynex brand DVDs and I think at least 25% show a burn failure.  Likely your CompUSA may have come from the same factory.
Bad media could be coupled with burner issues.  Maybe dust in the burner, or too fast a burn speed.

  • Exporting to iTunes (importing preferences)

I am exporting my songs with the intent of having them mastered professionally. does it matter what the iTUNE IMPORTING preferences are set on. i am looking at it now - which ENCODER should I use and which SETTING. The highest?

The recordings are mostly 30 or 45 minutes. I copy them to Garageband in real time, and then click on Export to iTunes in the File menu. The "creating mixdown" is often very slow. The longer, 45 minute files might take more than an hour to get into iTunes.

  • Converting my Lossless Format music to lower setting for burning/Ipod use

I have all my music saved to a HD in the lossless format and it unfortunately takes up a lot of memory when I want to burn to my IPOD and I don't get as many songs on the IPOD as I should. Is ITUNES set up to allow for a conversion to a lower setting when burning music to back to CD or IPOD so that I can get more songs on the device?
    Thanks.

You can convert your lossless songs to a compressed format in iTunes. It can't be done "on the fly" while updating an iPod. Unfortunately the option to "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC" is only available on the Shuffle. For the larger iPods the files have to be converted in iTunes first or indeed have to been imported in a compressed format prior to transfer.:

  • ITunes Store preferences in iTunes-create playlists

In the preferences for the iTunes Store, there is an option to automatically create playlists when buying song collections. How does this work? I don't ever see iTunes create a playlist when I buy songs/albums.

Turning off the option - I doubt - will change the 'Purchases' list. I have it 'off' in my prefs and I still have all iTS purchases added to the 'Purchases' list.
From the iTunes Help menu and a search for "song collection": <You can set iTunes to automatically create playlists when you buy collections from the iTunes Store, such as iMixes, submitted by iTunes users; and iTunes Essentials, favorites chosen by an iTunes Store staff of experts.>

  • Dvd burning preferences

    Hello,
Recently, I put a 16x disk in our 8x superdrive and tried to burn a show from idvd, but could'nt. I was baffled and put a different 16x disk in and it still wouldn't burn. I then thought does this superdrive allow 16x disks? I then put a 4x disk in the drive and successfully burned the show. It shouldn't matter though should it? I was looking for preferences in each of idvd and DVD Studio Pro, but couldn't locate burning preferences (ie. 4x, 8x, 16x). Is there somebody out there that could enighten me about this?
    Thanks,
    Jordan

I have both iDVD, DVDSP, and Toast. Once you are ready to burn a disc, choose the disc image option from which ever app you are using:
In iDVD 5, choose File > Save As Disc Image...
In DVDSP 3, choose File > Advanced Burn > Build and Format
I don't have DVDSP 4, but DVDSP 2 and 3 are similar in approach, as should DVDSP 4.
I recommend any burning software outside of the main DVD authoring apps. Why? Because when you are building a project and immediately burning it to a disc, you have no idea whether the build is good or not... not to mention the fact that if something hiccups during the process, the whole thing goes out the window... the build and all.
Toast is my preferred burning app because it has a reputable history... there are other apps out there, some free, others not, but not all of them offer the same ease or feature sets. Having the ability to specify the burn speed is a big plus, especially if you are working with finicky media.
Not that these comments are assuming that you are working with single layer media. Dual layer media has it's own quirks and you may not be able to use an app other than the one that authors it to burn the disc. I don't have a dual layer capable drive, so I can't say what the rules are regarding disc images.

  • Itunes burning question

anyone know what the real difference is, when about to burn a CD from itunes, under preferences/burning, whats the diff between choosing "AUDIO CD" or
"MP3 CD". Obviously a "DVD/DATA CD", can hold more music, but will it play on a CD player? If a car stereo has "MP3" capabilities, do i burn the disc in MP3 format? or "AUDIO CD" format??? is one better?
    thanks!!

An audiophile will talk all day about the quality issue. But in a car with my 63 year-old ears, I can't perceive any difference.
I wonder why you only got 19 songs on an MP3 CD. The last time I did one I put on 35 MP3s with room to spare.
    Here's a good comparison article: http://support.radioshack.com/supporttutorials/audiovideo/mp3-3.htm

  • Burn preferences will not open

The burning preferences tab will not open! in fact when clicked it locks up itunes. Itunes then has to be closed and restarated! windows says itunes is not responding.
the dvd/cd drive works for all other applications. all other features and itunes functions work properly.

    hmmmm.
okay, let's try see if it's a systemwide issue, or if it is associated with a specific XP user account.
    let's try an experiment.
head into your user accounts control panel and create a new user account with full administrative rights. (there's help documentation on how to do that at the left of the control panel screen.) while you're in that control panel, switch off "fast user switching" in your logging-on preferences.
now log out of the old account and log into the new account.
launch itunes. the itunes setup assistant will run, and eventually you'll see a blank library screen. (that's normal ... your music is off in the other account.)
now try opening the burning preferences tab in the itunes in the new account. does it open properly, or does it freeze there too?
