Setting JFrame Color

Question

Hi everyone I have a problem setting JFrame background color and the Foreground color.
Here is part of my code where I have the problem.

   JPanel userFields= new JPanel();
   JPanel buttonsPanel = new JPanel();
   JLabel userName = new JLabel("User Name");
   JLabel lastName = new JLabel("Last Name");
   JButton submitButton= new JButton("Submit");
   public static void main(String[] args)
      userInfo User = new userInfo();
      User .setTitle("User Information");
      User .setSize(300, 175);
      User .setVisible(true);
   public userInfo()

      setBackground(Color.blue);  //-------> Doesn;t want to set the background color to blue, it flickers for a second and then go grey
      setForeground(Color.white); //-------> Doesn;t want to set the foreground color to white, it stays at black.
      submitButton.setForeground(Color.black);

     setLayout(new BorderLayout());
     userFields.setLayout(new GridLayout(4,2));
     buttonsPanel .setLayout(new FlowLayout());
     userFields.add(userName );
     userFields.add(lastName );
     buttonsPanel .add(submitButton);
     add(userFields, BorderLayout.CENTER);
     add(buttonsPanel , BorderLayout.SOUTH);
}I've also tried to set the JPanels to blue, that works, but if I set the JPanels foreground to white it doesn't want to apply.
userFields.setBackground(Color.blue);
userFields.setForeground(Color.white);How can I set the JFrame background color to blue and the foreground to white?
I've also tried, but it also doesn;t work.
getContentPane().setBackground(Color.blue);

thanks for the reply.
I've done that but if I do that I can as well just set the.
JPanel.setBackground(Color.blue);Is there a way to set the text of the JLabel thats added to the JPanel to default to white?
Example is to add the following and the text is displayed by default in white on the JPanel:
JPanel fieldPanel = new JPanel();
JLabel userName = new JLabel("User Name");
fieldPanel.add(userName);I know you can do it by setting the text on the JLabel to white, but if you have allot of JLabels it would be alot of coding to do that.
Or is that the only way to do it?
