Setting key photo for iWeb photo album

This one's confusing me a little. I'm trying to select a key photo for my album in iWeb, but it keeps defaulting to the first photo in the album. I would've thought it would be similar to selecting a key photo for an event in iPhoto (i.e. just scrolling to the desired photo and hitting the space bar), but no go. Just wondering if anybody has figured out how to do it. Thanks

I think the iWeb programmers thought we would be excited enough by the mouse over feature of the albums.
You could send them feedback suggesting this feature for a future update as others have asked the same question.

select the photos and change the date/time - photo menu ==> adjust time and date to make a relative adjustment to a number of photos ==> batch change ==> time and date to set an absolute time date for them

  • Photos for iWeb: do they need to be sized, or does the program do that?

I have a number of fairly large files that i want to use in a little website I'm making in iWeb.Do I need to rez down, sharpen, etc? Or can I just import?

It can help to resize/optimize before adding to iWeb. It all depends on how many and how big the overall site is. For my photo pages with around 60 photos I just let iWeb do it's thing.
If you have a lot of photos you can batch resize/optimize them with an application like Resize!. With it you can set the pixel dimensions you want and the amount of jpeg compression (Quality). Since Resize! creates new files in a new folder you can experiment with quality levels until you get the smallest size possible that still meets your visual quality requirements.
Before you add those photos to iWeb turn off iWebs optimizing so that they get added just as you created them. If you add them to a photo page iWeb resizes to 800 x 600 so use those dimensions for your resizing. If you add a photo to a page iWeb always changes its size a bit and adds a stroke to it. You can remove the stroke and get it to the size you created via the Inspector/Graphic pane (for the stroke) and the Inspector/Metrics pane (for the size).

  • Can i set the timing for individual photos in a slideshow

there are text pages that need to be read but not at a 4 second speed
it has to be slower more time
syncing to music i compose is a must
can each individual photo have its own time
i hope so or else they ruined a wonderful product
    with this limitation

    Glen:
Yes, you can. Under the slide there's a button titled "Adjust'. Click on it and you can set the time for that slide, the transition, etc.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Default display for iweb photo albums page

I am trying to make a web site using i web with several different photopages. I am using an albums page but the default display for the album covers is landscape. Can anyone tell me how to make them portrait so my pictures on the album cover are not cropped?

    Hi,
this sounds to me ridiculous. This has to be considered as bug, not limitation as I am allowed to put pictures in portrait to my "Pictures"-template site. How can I contact Apple regarding this issue as on their support page they seem to hide the way to contact them in case of troubles... Bad customer care Apple...

  • How to set image size for importing photos from a digital camera

I'm using Iphoto 6 and am a novice user of my new digital camera. The camera is set to HQ image quality. Initially when I imported photos from the camera into IPhoto, the images were very large (over 1 meg) and produced good quality 4X6 prints. Now when I import photos from the same camera still set to HQ image quality, the photos are very small (less than 100 kb) after being imported into IPhoto. I think I must have changed some kind of setting in IPhoto that affects the size of an imported image, but I can't find where that is or how to change it back so that the size is not changed when imported. Can someone please help me with this? Thanks!

Dave, thanks for clarifying Toad's response for me - I was just too ignorant to connect the dots from his responses. As you said, there were 2 versions - 1 in the original folder and 1 in data; the original folder had the photos that were 1 mb. We must have pulled from that folder previously to print photos not realizing they existed in 2 places. So when we found these thumbnail photos, we just thought they were the real thing. Where can you go to learn about the struction and hierarchy of the photos in terms of what Iphoto does to an image when you import it? Is it in Iphoto help somewhere? Thanks so much for your help with this, and you too Toad for leading me down the path.
If you're getting the size from Finder, I think Old
Toad's question makes a lot of sense. Is the file
you're looking at, somewhere in a folder called
"Data" in iPhoto Library? That 56k sounds about the
    right size for a thumbnail.
If you do a search for the image name, both the
actual photo and the small thumbnail are stored with
    the same image, e.g. abc.jpg

  • Compressing photos for iWeb

Ok, is it true that if I drag and drop my photos from iPhoto directly into iWeb they are not compressed at all!!!?? Is this why some of my pages load so slowly? I am about to start a new site and put about 30 photos directly from iPhoto into the first page. If what I said above is true, what is the quickest and most efficient way to compress. Can I do this after I import into iWeb, or possibly in iPhoto before I drag and drop into iWeb?
    Thanks!

    Hello Apnewbie...
I'm not sure of what the upshot of your post was, but
definitely do whatever you see fit based on your own
experiments. I don't use the slideshow function or
photo pages at all, so I can't really say for sure.
I've just been hearing a lot about people with
multi-GIGAbyte sized Domain files with a very large
delta between Domain and published site folder sizes.
I'm going out on a limb, but I'm postulating that
this all has something to do with publishing errors
or more likely Domain file corruption or increasing
    publishing times.
This is all just my opinion and what works for me.
I'm sure that if Apple wanted it this way, they
would have told everyone to preprocess their images
and the lot. But drag and drop is the mantra, so be
    it!
    .......... Lorna says ................................................
James, I know just enough to know that what you and Apnewbie are talking about is serious but not enough to know to do anything about fixing whatever Tom fool thing I've done in the past with my large photos.
What you said about increased publishing time struck a chime in my head. My publishing time is getting to be very long; I realize that "long" is subjective and that one might expect longer publishing times with more pages to publish, but still, I wonder whether I am not taxing my iWeb system with too-large photos.
Ok, correction: Now I am taking more care about what I put on my pages, but a lot of photos went onto my pages dead bang huge, I mean, as huge as Montana, and then I whittled them down to my palate On The Page. So now I learn that the Domain file is married to my large photo files and won't let go. Get along little dogies! Aw! 8-(
I did a Utility > Repair Permissions today and think I had better buy or download one of the two programs that two people here suggested I could use. At this point I do not want to lose my website because I haven't been practicing due diligence. I know that I have people's notes printed out and stuck in my folder, though.
I also back up my Domain file frequently. The question I always ask myself is: Can I afford to lose the work I've just done? And the answer is the obvious. So I now have about 10 backups. Yes, sometimes I forget about doing it. Usually the times when I work until 4:00 AM and get out of bed again at 8 AM. One time Varkgirl woke up in Florida and told me to go to bed in California.
So OPTIMIZER was one maintenance thing. Where can I get it? And Peelie suggested another program and then went off on a vacation with his family so I can't ask him.
I just made a page for a manager of a southern style red white and blue rock group. It was fun! The Newbie had fun!
OH: I discovered something. While trying to make a horizontal bar totally level on that page I ended up also re-positioning the counter box. I fully expected having to re-tweak the .js page after the Far-too-Long publishing process finished, but when I finally got to the page in Safari, THE MUSIC WAS STILL WORKING! But I believed that any kind of work on a page made it necessary to re-do the html/js file..... so....... although I am not complaining at all..... I am here to say that not always does one have to re-tweak. What happened to break the law of Re-Tweaking?

  • Batch prep of photos for iWeb..?

Anticipating that ‘file size’ might be a reasonable consideration in reducing their download time requirement. I’m looking for ways to reduce their resolution from the current of 72 dpi as JPEGs.
Any suggestions for optimal 'dpi' for web presentation...?
I'd also appreciate knowing what maneuvers could allow me to do a collection of a couple of dozen of them in a batch.
Currently dependent on Photoshop CS2, v.9.0.2.
These photo files are of two configurations- both approximately 7x9 inches.
    They’re either ‘landscape’ or ‘portrait’.
So howdya do it.? - and, ¿ in batches.?
    ThanX..!
    G-5; 400/896   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

There are a number of graphics programs that can do this. Adobe Photoshop certainly has this batch function available. It's under the File menu, I believe, under File>Scripts>Image Processor.
For quick and dirty image scaling and JPG compression, though, I like to use a program called "Downsize". It does the trick as well. http://www.stuntsoftware.com/Downsize/
If you have a folder full of portrait and landscape mixed photos, you can simply specify a maximum vertical and horizontal dimension of the same pixel length and all of your photos will be scaled proportionally to the same width or length no matter what their orientation. Instead of thinking in dpi, I like to think in actual pixels because that is how the webpage is measured as well.

  • Best file formats for graphics and photos for iWeb

What is the best format to transfer files from PDF's, JPEGS, Illustrator CS3 & InDesign for best resolution display in iWeb

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. JPEGS should have the sRGB color profile. I don't know of anything special for PDFs. You might compress them to make them load quicker when viewed but those that I've added I've not done anything to them. For Illistrator and InDesign it probably would be best to take screenshots of them and use those. I don't think iWeb can import those formats but since I don't use either I could be mistaken. All graphics in web sites are displayed at 72 dpi so having large graphic files are not needed. Resize to approximately the size you want to display on the web page at 72 dpi and use that.

  • Duplicate photos in iWeb photo gallery

A photo gallery in iWeb repeats it's self. The last half of the photo's repeat, then about half of those repeat again. some of the photos are shown 3 or 4 times. This site is important for my business and looks unprofessional. Also I think it slows down the loading time. Can anyone help me resolve this issue? Photos were loaded using iLife 08.
    The site is at;

    THANKS

Yes, the duplicates do show up in iweb before publishing. I have a splash page set up on another server with a link to this gallery. I am afraid that if I delete and republish that album that it will have a new address and then the splash page will have to be reconfigured. I would have to go pay to have that done. Do you think if I erased it and started over I would get the same web address?
Those photos with out credits were taken by me. The ones with credits are from photographers who are allowing me to use their photos.
    Your help is much appreciated.

  • Spry Slide Show-how to use one size photo for large photo and thumbnail?

    Hi all,
I'm am using Adobe's Spry Slide Show. I can only use one size photo 640x480px for both the large photo and the thumbnail.
I changed the size of the small thumnail on the html:
                     <li><a href="Photos/TestPhoto640x480.jpg" width="490" height="367"><img src="Photos/TestPhoto640x480.jpg" width="63" height="47" alt="photos-1.jpg" /></a></li>
The thumbnail looks fine until you hit Live View or Preview in Browser then photo comes in full size and you can only see the upper left hand corner.
I assume that the java is doing this. But I have no training in Java.
How can I change the Java Code so the thumbnail comes in at 63x47px?
    Many thanks.

Wish I could use scaled down versions of the thumbnails-but I can't.
    Why not?
        img.src = info.src;
        img.style.width =  "490px";<!--Large Photo size on internet-changed from info.width + "px"; to "490px";  *********-->
        img.style.height =  "368px";<!--Large Photo size on internet-changed from info.height + "px"; to "368px";  *******-->
You're shooting yourself in the foot with this.  It's overriding your HTML and CSS  values.
As an FYI, Adobe Abandoned the Spry framework late last year.

  • Set key accelerator for JComboBox

    Hi,
I would like to set a key accelerator (Alt+...) for the list items of a non-editable JComboBox. Something like what you do for Buttons and check boxes with setMnemonic(). Is there a way to do it? I couldn't find anything.
    Regarsd,
    Plamen

I'm not sure about being able to use the ALT key with a combo box, but once the box has focus, you can press a letter on the keyboard and the list will jump to the first item that begins with that letter. You may have already known about that, but I thought I'd throw it out there just in case.

  • Choose key photo for album

    Dear Common Wisdom:
I have created a web site of photo galleries with an index page at http://www.byzantineaegina.org
How can I choose a key photo to represent each gallery on the first page?
    Thanks!
    CJ

you can set key image for albums page, as long as the image is one of the first of 50 images in the album (aka photos page) and you need to know how iweb widgets work.
    have a look: http://temp.cyclosaurus.com/revolving/keyImageAlbums/keyImageAlbums.html
notice the displayed image is the 4th image in the album, not the first image.

  • Photos for TV viewing ... what rez do you use?

Hi all, Just got a iPod Video 5th Gen. Have a few questions someone may be able to help with.
1, for viewing on a TV (PAL) whats the best size to put them on the iPod? 720pixels wide max? or can the photos be higher rez than that.. does the ipod scale them if they are bigger than pal ? to fit?
2, Colour profile.. is it best to set the profiles for the photos in the albums I'm syncing to S-RGB rather than AbobeRGB.. or should I assign PAL/SECAM ?
Just to point out each Album in iPhotot has 3 Albums Orig/Posted/Ipod so the ones in the posted album say Berlin(ipod) album (the one I sync) will be optimized for viewing from ipod on a tv. Just can't work out whats the best rez/col profile to save them off in from Photochop.
    many thanks
