Setting Locale and Hostname on New Installation Fails
Hello,
Tried doing an Arch install on my Acer Aspire One D255 today, but when I try to set the hostname and locale while chroot'ed into /mnt, I get:
Failed to get D-Bus connection: Failed to connect to socket /run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory
This occurs when running hostnamectl and localectl as per the Beginners' Guide. I had to set the locale manually in /etc/locale.conf, but I don't know what to do about the hostname, and something seems to indicate there's a more serious issue.
Any idea?

No problem, thanks for helping! However, I think you missed a few 'systemctl' commands. There's three here and one here. I don't know how to fix them, so for now I'll just configure them on reboot.

That is precisely the WRONG thing to do. You should never delete, but uninstall.
Now you need to look for, download and run the Adobe CS Cleaner tool. -

Cause
Some kernel tunables (parameters) have been changed but the new values will not be activated until the next server reboot
Solution
Reboot the server so that the kernel tunable (parameter) changes are activated before installing the Oracle software
Workaround
The errors/warnings can be ignored and the Oracle installation can be completed successfully, but it is best to schedule a reboot of the server soon so that the pending kernel parameter changes are activated.

Locale and language problem after installation
hello
on my new laptop i install fresh copy of arch linux, my old installation work over 4 years , but now i chcange laptop and i do new system. So following by official wiki guide i install arch, i install PL language pack, setting locale.gen etc... so now KDE is half polish and half english, also i cant running some application for example User Managment , i cant run krusader (root) all app has install in eng language like firefox, chromium, etc, console is eng language, no polish fonts, i check everything 4-5 times and looks OK, i read Polish guide some video tutorial and should work but not.. any ideas ?

You need to set the shortcuts in system prefs/spotlight and system prefs/keyboard and mouse
On my word processor Nisus or Mellel or on TextEdit even if I click on the Hebrew/Arabic icon and also choose the appropriate Hebrew/Arabic font it will only write in English.
That sounds bad. You might try setting up a new user account and see if it works when you are logged in there. If not, I would reinstall the OS.

Adobe Premiere and After Effects CS6 installer failed to initialize on Mac Book Air
Hi everybody,
I'm trying to install Adobe Premiere and After Effects CS6 for at least a month now.
I have downloaded the .dmg file at the Adobe Website and it starts to initializing the installer, then a error show up:
"The installer could not initialize. Download the Adobe Support Advisor."
There is no Adobe Support Advisor when I clicked on the link. "The Adobe Support Advisor has been discontinued" (http://www.adobe.com/support/loganalyzer/)
I've tried this many times, but every time being a failure.

New Installation Failing w/Error: The update could not be found.
On a new 2008 R2 server (Standard), using the Add Roles Wizard, I tried adding WSUS but it fails with "The update cound not be found. There may be a network connection issue. Click here for more information."
Clicking there takes me to the "Resolving WSUS issues" pages with refereces to Microsoft. The first is the most relevent:
"If you receive the message “The update could not be found. There may be a network connection issue.” when you try to install WSUS, refer to the information in the Network and Sharing Center Troubleshooting Guide."
Clicking on the link to the "Network and Sharing Center Troubleshooting Guide http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=140135" takes me there (so there are no connectivity issues) but nothing seems to apply to my issue. I can browse the internet just fine and have even went in and manually installed various required components like IIS, .NET Framework 3.5.1, and Windows Internal Database but still no luck. I even downloaded the file "WSUS30-KB972455-x64" and tried running that without success. What am I missing?

To install WSUS as a role, the candidate server must either have an active Internet connection to obtain the WSUS installation package from Microsoft Update, or be configured to update from an existing WSUS server with the WSUS3SP2 Dynamic Installer package already approved. If the R2 server is configured to use WSUS and the WSUS3SP2 Dynamic Installer package is not approved for installation for the group(s) in which the R2 server is a member, then you may also encounter this situation.

That's hard to say. Running the installer should not have presented any issues, but then you've not shared the exact details of that particular failure, which almost certainly would have been different from the previous failures encountered using Server Manager. Of course, successfully running the installer presumes that the server has been properly prepared and prerequisites have been properly installed and configured. I would be concerned that you don't seem to have referenced and followed the explicit instructions documented in either the Step By Step Guide or the Deployment Guide, so this is a high probability source of the cause. (Note: .NET Framework 3.5.1 is NOT a required component, the Windows Internal Database does not require manual installation for WSUS, and if IIS7 is not properly configured with the exact requirements for WSUS, the installation will fail.)Lawrence Garvin, M.S., MCITP:EA, MCDBA, MCSA

I had a lovely computer, about 8 years old, running Windows XP; the mother board died; the hard drive was fine.

How do I get my old Firefox bookmarks off the old hard drive and into my new Firefox installation?You can find your current profile using about:support pasted into the location bar then click on "Open Containing folder. That is where you will want to replace your old files into.

Windows7 (64bit) and itunes 64-bit installer failing
I'm trying to install the itunes 64-bit installer on my new windows7 64bit system to sync my phone and pad but comes up with the following error
any ideas?These ones are typically caused by underlying problems on the PC that also often cause Windows Updates to fail to install. If we can fix the Windows Update trouble, we can usually get the iTunes trouble cleaned up en passant.
Go into your Windows update and try to check for new updates. If updates install, stock up on the ones you're behind on, restarting the PC if requested to do so. After the restart, try installing iTunes again. Does it go through this time for you?
If windows updates fail to install, go into your Update History and doubleclick the failures. What alphanumeric codes appear for you? (For example, 8007000B.) -
Update Content and Creation of New Packages Fails, Errors in PKGXFERMGR.log
I am having a problem distributing packages to Distribution Points. This has worked for over a year previously. I believe there may be a problem with IIS configuration somewhere but I cannot find what the delta may be.
When I look at the pkgxfermgr.log I see several things.
First, I see the jobs that I have started are stuck in a pending state. Example below:

How do I set up and partition a new HD ?
If I put a new HD into an old machine, will it just offer me the option to partition it after it powers on, or do I have to do something more technical to partition that drive. I am under the impression that having a large HD partitioned will help me to back up my OS in one of the large partitions, in case the first one fails, and I can't boot from that damaged partition. Sort of, if #1 fails, then boot from #2 or #3.
Is this correct or no? How do I do it? What is the BEST method for having a dual boot system, or backing up my entire system to boot from an external drive ?

Well, yes, but what if the entire drive fails? Then you lose your primary boot vollume as well as your backup(s). If your intention is protection of your data and being able to boot your computer and access your data in case of a failure, a better strategy would be to backup to an external HDD, or better, to clone the entire volume on your internal HDD to an external firewire HDD, or, indeed, two separate external HDDs. Many of us maintain two or three separate backup/clones which we rotate so that we can more reliably protect our data.

C5180 - Existing software couldn't detect printer, new installs fail
Model C5180 - wired to my wireless router with manual static IP address on the network.
Windows Vista - all latest updates installed.
I recently ran into a network issue of some kind that prevented my computer from seeing the print on the network. Printing never stopped working, but scanning stopped. When I tried to open the Solution Center, it said no device was detected. The downloadable HP Print and Scan Doctor had no problem detecting the printer on my network, but said I did not have the full software package installed.
No amount of updating fixed this, so I decided to go with a full uninstall/re-install. I uninstalled all HP printing software, then tried the original included software disk. That failed, so I downloaded the latest available package for my printer.
Every time I try to install (using original disk or downloaded drivers), it gets to Step 3/4 and gives a "Fatal error during installation" message at 94% complete. The end result is that now not only can I not scan, I can also no longer print.
I have since tried running the automatically downloaded solution (which is just a bunch of "disconnect everything, then reconnect everything" non-sense -- did it anyway). I have tried the step-by-step solution recommended by HP for fatal errors without a code (Safe Mode and permissions changes). I have tried a third party's atl.dll fix. Nothing has worked.
Really would like to have my printer and scanner working.

No. Not at all, at least if you are still going to keep it. If you want to sell it or give it away, you want to erase it and remove it from your Apple devices. Take a look at this.

SL and Boot Camp - new installation
Just purchased another mac book pro and upgraded to snow leopard. Need to install a windows vista and MS office using boot camp. Need advice - what size partition should I give to the windows partition? System HD is 250 GB. This is a complete office install with project and visio. Only to be used as needed so no gaming, itunes, etc.
This is a spare system for me and the mac environment will be my primary working environment.
