Setting monitor resolution in the login manager, before session launch
Hey guys,
I want to have SLiM set the resolution to "auto" once it boots. At the moment, it seems like it boots directly into 800x600, and not into my native resolution, 1366x768. Sometimes I have an external monitor connected as well, and it's a good deal larger.
I was thinking it would be possible to run "xrandr --auto" which does this for me, but I am unable to see how exactly this is done through SLiM.
If it becomes necessary, I'm willing to change login manager to something else. gdm, xdm, kdm, you name it.
Thanks,
gonX
Are you using a /etc/X11/xorg.conf file?
If not, then you may want to try setting up a basic one with settings for your video card, monitor, and screen that includes the resolution that you want slim to use.
Before XRandR, it was set up in the xorg.conf file.
Though, now that I think about it, if it's an issue with size of the fonts, I think that you can adjust that in the slim theme. I don't use slim or any login manager.
I find that it's easier for me to log in via the console and startx manually. That way if I break my X.... It's happened.
Anyway, HTH

Hi, whenever I open Dreamweaver CS5 I get this message:
Adobe Extension Manager loops with the following message:
“The Extension Manager will now launch and finish updating Dreamweaver”.
Then the manager starts and I have to wait and click a few buttons until I can close it.
How can I stop the Extension Manager popping up?
Thanks for advice.Seems to be a lot of this going on. Wondering if we're wasting our time with this??!!

I am using PictureRequest class to get the images of the presentation as,
PictureRequest request = new PictureRequest(inStream, ".pptx", PictureFormat.Png, outStream);
IAsyncResult result = request.BeginConvert(SPServiceContext.GetContext(siteCollection), null, null);
request.EndConvert(result);
After getting the response from the PictureRequest if I check the image size (in this case png) it has the resolution of 720x540. I want bigger resolution images. I searched all over the sharepoint central administration but could not find any setting related
to Powerpoint conversion service which may allow to set the desired image resolution.
Could you please anyone suggest where I can specify the required resolution?
Many thanks in advance!Hi,
According to your description, you want to convert PPT file to PNG file in a specific resolution.
There is no such OOTB settings in PowerPoint conversion service can meet your requirement. In
PictureRequest object, there is also no related method can set the resolution of the converting image.
As a workaround, I would suggest you do the conversion outside SharePoint, there will be more options available to handle the properties of the converted images.

How I can set Leopard to use the color management mixture that Tiger uses?
I have recently bought a new Mac with Leopard installed. My old Mac is running Tiger. Unfortunately the color management default settings in Leopard are different than in Tiger, so this is completely messing up my calibration. Can somebody please tell me how I can set Leopard to use whatever color management mixture that Tiger uses? - Thanks.
I already have set FF to No Proxy. This made FF work again, but not any of my other internet programs, programs that don't have the option to set to no proxy, they rely on the system settings. So I need to know how to reset my system settings back to their default values. This will allow all my net progs to access the net again, including FF using the Use System Settings option. Since FF has an option to use system settings, this is a somewhat FF related question. I need to get all my net programs working again, not just FF! And, if my system settings are restored, FF will work using the system settings, and all my other progs will work too.

A question about the IE management of session id
Hi, guys! I have a question about the IE browser management of session id.
As we know, firefox browser will use cookie to record session id, so if we delete the cookie files then the client can't find target session.
But it's not the same as IE browser.I found I already can find target session after I delete the cookies.
Then I think maybe IE browser use URL rewrite mechanism(GET request) and hidden text mechanism(POST request), but I'm not sure!
Or maybe IE browser use current IE window process's cache to record the session id?
Please help me, thank you very much in advance!
I'm Chinese, my English is so bad, please understand, thanks.Thank you for your answer, but I still have a question.
Can you tell me how your deleting cookies works? I just use IE browser tools->Internet Options->Delete Cookies to delete my cookie, but the session still can be retrieved! Just like you said, the session id is kept in the memory.
But if I use firefox to do the same operations, the session will can't be retrieved.Does that mean firefox not only delete cookies' files but also delete them in the memory.
Can I use IE browser to do the same effect as firefox browser? And how to do? Thank you. -
Howto set monitor resolution when I start with the monitor turned of ?
Hello,
I use the onboard Intel HD 4000 to display on my Dell monitor which works out of the box with native 2560x1600 resolution as long as I boot with the monitor turned on (both console and X11).
The problem is that sometimes I don't boot with the monitor being powered on and just need the monitor later.
I found in aur the program read-edid which gives me the needed info in case my monitor isn't powered at boot.
How could I use that information, for the console (I guess it's relared to grub2) and for X11 ?
Thank you very much !!!This is related to KMS.
Take a look in the wiki: Kernel Mode Setting: Forcing modes and EDID and Intel Graphics: KMS (Kernel Mode Setting) -
Can't set monitor resolution to 1900x1200
I have an HG281D monitor (hanns-g) with native resolution 1900x1200. Mac OS won't let me set the resolution higher than 1900x1080. How can I fix this? The display is clearly stretched vertically in its current configuration.
Thanks,

Note that Mac Pro ≠ MacBook Pro. This the MacBook Pro forum. The Mac Pro is a desktop machine. The MacBook Pro is a notebook computer, and you certainly can't have two NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 video cards installed in a MacBook Pro.
The proper forum for your question is here:

I will ask the Hosts to relocate this thread to the proper forum.

Good, it shouldn't be there.
For your Dock problem,
Go to your Finder "Go" menu choose "Go to Folder" and enter ~/Library/Preferences. Then delete these files then restart or log out and back in.

The GNOME login manager crashes upon booting
Every time I start up Arch, I get a window with a sad face in a computer saying that there was a problem and I have the option to log out which does nothing. The only way I am able to access my desktop is to open another terminal, manually log in, and run "startx." The login manager appeared one time but I have no clue how it happened. This is a fresh install of Arch that I installed yesterday. I am not familiar with troubleshooting so could you tell me what logs to post here? Here is a log file named :0.log which was located in the GDM log folder. This might say something about my issue.

Fatal server error is interesting. I don't know what is the problem. I even prepared new xorg.conf again.
Any ideas? -
Can't login, the system through me back to the login window.
I need help. Once I tried to login under admin account but the system through me out after accepting a psw. It happens like it checks the psw shows the blue screen and then return to the login window. Meantime I can succesfully log in under another user account. I tried to change psw and login but it doesn't help. The system is friendly accepting the admin psw for all the possible aims but not the login. Before that happend the system was blaiming me for overfulled hard drive. Now I cleaned it but that doens't help. What shall I do, in order to log in, what is wrong?
I have a time machine copy but recovery of admin user folder didn't help. Many thanks in advance for your assistance! You can use the install DVD to reset the password, repair the disk and repair permissions. If you don't have the install DVD you could try the following.
Print the following and then follow these instructions very carefully - at each stage wait for processes to complete - spaces are important:
1 - shutdown
2 - start in single user mode by holding command (Apple key) and S while it starts
3 - type the following and hit the return key to repair the disk
/sbin/fsck -fy
4 - type the following and hit the return key
/sbin/mount -uw /
5 - type the following and hit the return key
rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
5 - type the following and hit the return key
shutdown -h now
6 - start the Mac
7 - The above tricks the Mac into thinking it is starting for the first time. Follow the various processes as normal but DO NOT use a name that has been used on the Mac before. It will set up a new admin account without removing existing accounts with different names.
8 - Use the new admin account
9 - If necessary enable the root user (see Mac help) to reset passwords on other accounts. -

Just a quick one - I'm gonna do a bit more digging around, probably find something, but:
If I want to run, say, Enlightenment, I can stick it in .xinitrc. Then, if I want to run adesklets with it, I can stick that in .xinitrc as well. But, if I want to run some other environments as well, and I use a login manager, how can I get adesklets to load? It doesn't run the .xinitrc script anymore.
So,
a) is there a place to put login scripts that start adesklets regardless off what environment I use?
b) if not, is there somewhere to make the login manager call adesklets somehow?
I'm sure it can't be too complicated, but I can't get it quite right.
Cheers,
ThomFrom KDE FAQ:
How do I run a program at KDE startup?
There are many ways to do that. If what you want to do is to run some scripts that would set some environment variables (for example, to start gpg-agent, ssh-agent and others), you can put these scripts into $KDEHOME/env/ and make sure their names end in .sh. $KDEHOME is usually a folder named .kde (note the period at the beginning) in your home folder. If you want scripts to be executed for all KDE users, you can put them under $KDEDIR/env/, where $KDEDIR is the prefix KDE was installed to (you can find this out using the command kde-config --prefix).
If you wish to start a program after KDE has started, you may want to use the Autostart folder. To add entries to the Autostart folder:
1. Open Konqueror.
2. Select Go->Autostart from the menubar.
3. Right-click in the window view area and select Create New->File->Link to Application
4. Click on the Application tab in the window that appears and enter the name of the command to run in the Command text box. -
[SOLVED]Login manager in KDE 4.3 does not work!
This is a fresh install (just two days old and installed KDEbase just yesterday), and almost everything is working like a charm the only glitch I have experienced till now is that the login manager module in System Settings is not working as it should be. When I click on its button I know that it should normally ask me for my password but it does not do that and therefore when it opens up all the settings are greyed out and thus unchangable . Is this a bug or am I missing something (Anyone else experienced this!)?
Also, although not related to this topic, can somebody tell me where to find the setting for making windows shift to different workspace while dragging them through the edges of the screen. I'm sure I found this setting under Window Behavior>Window Behavior module in Kubuntu but it is nowhere to be found on the Arch KDE.

As nobody answered this question, I guess I'll just mark this thread as solved as even after a lot of search I'm unable to find the preference and so none of the arch users here know about it as well. I think that feature was kubuntu specific and as Arch ships vanilla KDE I think its useless trying to find it here.
Anyways thanks for the help guys -
Lpadmin stoppning the login process
Basic facts:
10.5.6 server with 10.5.6 clients over Airport (Airport Extreme and Airport Express).
Managed clients with mobile accounts.
Services on server: DHCP, AFP, OD, NFS, SU, Netboot, DNS, iCal.
All worked fine up until one client updated itself to 10.5.7 around the same time I moved the printer from the Airport Express to the Airport Extreme.
What happens is when one try to login at this client machine it accepts the login but before anything changes a adminstration window opos up stating that lpadmin needs the administrator priviliges to do some changes. I cannot do anything with this, I cannot add the administartion login nothing.
If I try to login into the machine with the local account the same thing happens.
If I unbind the client from the OD I can login with the local account.
I have tried to update the server to 10.5.7 nothing changed.
I refomatted the client and when I bid the computer the OD same thing happens again.
So something has happend on the server, but what? And what can I do to fix this?According to this thread, it solves the problem.
The thread indicated is this discussion.
This command, 'dseditgroup -o edit -p -a admin -t group _lpadmin', attempts to add a user 'admin' to a record type of 'group' named '_lpadmin'. If you do, 'dscl . -list /Groups', you will see a group '_lpadmin' already exists. If you do, 'dscl . -read /Groups/_lpadmin' it will show the local admins as members of the group. In this case, the '-t group', portion of the command is superfluous. If the user with the shortname 'admin' does not exist on the machine, then it does nothing.
More than likely the user shortname in the example, 'admin', was placed there to indicate an admin level user should be added to the '_lpadmin' group. So in order for this command, 'dseditgroup -o edit -a admin _lpadmin' to work, you would have to add all local admin users and any local users to the '_lpadmin' group.
What the dialog box is specifically asking for is admin privileges for the user '_lpadmin'. That is why this command, 'dseditgroup -o edit -a _lpadmin admin', is the correct syntax as it adds the user '_lpadmin' to the 'admin' group which satisfies the dialog box request and does not require you to add every user to the '_lpadmin' group.
Correct that dseditgroup does not require SUM, but if the user is having a login problem, any variables associated with login can be eliminated by booting into SUM.
If there are any jobs in any local printers on the machine that are not stopped, as soon as the machine boots, the jobs will start to spool. If the printers are unreachable or the problem under discussion is in effect, the machine could hang or become slow to respond. Reformatting the machine only removes the problem for local users. If a network user logs in, the spooled jobs will again start to print from the user's print spool. So the user's print jobs need to be cleared from the user's home folder on the server, also. -
How do I get system users/groups to appear in the Workgroup Manager list?
When I open the Workgroup Manager and select the Users tab, it only shows users set up in the Workgroup Manager -- same when I browse Groups. But, I also have a couple system users/groups set up not in the workgroup manager, but through the OS's System Preference interface for Users.
Is there a way to automatically have System users appear in the Workgroup list?
I also can't add users to System groups, since the groups also won't appear in the Workgroup Manager (like adding a user to the group Admin or Staff -- default system groups).
I'd just like the option to "show System users and groups" somewhere.
Thanks.
PatrickHi
If I understand your post correctly then launch WorkGroup Manager and select Preferences from the WorkGroup Manager Menu. Enable the Show "All Records" tab and inspector option and click OK. In the Users/Groups/Computer tab you should now see the addition of another icon - it looks like a bullseye. Select this and under the filter field selecting 'AccessControls' will show you a long list. Scroll down and select Users. Now go back to the Users tab and you should see all users visible and invisible. You’ll see the same thing for Groups.
You will see different Users and Groups depending which directory node you are in. In the LDAP node you should only see Directory and System Administrator as well as VPN MPPE Key Access User in addition to any user you have created within that node. In the local Net Info node you should see users such as Amavisd User, Clamav User, Cyrus IMAP User etc. You’ll also see UIDs and GUIDs amongst a wealth of other information if you select a user or group and select the Inspector tab.
You can modify record attribute and values as well as adding your own. You can even use WGM in the same way you would use Net Info Manager locally if you wish.
