Setting motion menu loop point to 1 second or under causes Encore CS3 to crash

Has anyone else had this problem?  I created a motion menu that I want to loop to a point just 24 frames after the beginning (the motion background fades in over 24 frames), but every time I try it causes Encore to crash when I go to preview the DVD and get to the loop point.

No.
VOB files (or Video OBjects) are the multiplexes for the timelines, and also (in the VTS_xx_0.VOB) the menu files themselves.
IFO (or InFOrmation files) tell the player what should be there.
Cells are the smallest part a menu or a timeline can be broken down into, and they need to be at least 1 second long.
(If you could see "under the hood" and have multiple cells in a motion menu, and a return call is made (after the movie has played) to cell 2 ignoring cell 1 (which could be, EG, a copyright warning or whatever) you might see:
CallSS VMGM (menu ROOT, rsm_cell 2)
which would tell the player to return to the Root menu at the second cell, bypassing the first cell completely.

  • Can't set a menu loop point for my buttons to come in

because my menu loop background video has text that flies in, i need my menu buttons that correspond to that text to come in on a delay. reading my dvdsp3 book, it seems i would need to set a loop point in the menu to trick it into doing this, however i cannot set a loop point on my menu - that option is greyed out and i cannot toggle it.
the guide i have says looping isn't possible if i add drop zones or text, but i have done neither within dvdsp3.
    any help appreciated
    thanks

ok i think i know what happened
i was using moving video as an asset for my buttons
once i changed that i could set a loop.
i guess i will edit my moving video into small "buttons" in FCP and then create the real selection buttons in DVDSP3.

  • Menu Loop Point 1-second skip

I'm hoping somebody can help me...
I've created a menu that has a video clip background, and set a loop point about 4 seconds in (after everything flies in, and the image remains static).
The problem is that from the "At End:" dropdown list, "Loop" is selected, but in the box next to it, the duration (number of seconds) input field is not available to me -- I can't change it. So it's set on "1 sec"... but that leaves a terrible pause at the end of the clip before it goes back to the loop point, and I'm trying to give it a seamless loop (which seems like it should be the logical default).
What am I doing wrong?? I've searched the manual and this forum, and can't find an answer. Please help ASAP... thanks!
    OZ

It's a great suggestion, Hal. Thanks. But are you really saying that that skip is unavoidable? What's the point in being able to "loop" something, if the loop can't appear seamless?
I'm not doubting that you know what you're talking about, I'm just surprised if such a fundemental problem hasn't been resolved by the manufacturers. Or am I really that much more pedantic than everyone else out there? (From what I've seen on this forum, I'd find that hard to believe!)
Thanks for the great suggestion, anyway. (I've done something similar, where the music fades out at the end of a 2-minute menu, and when it loops, you can very clearly see the stutter, but it almost looks intentional. Not nearly as efficient (or effective) as the looping 20-second menu I was originally planning, but if that's the technology's limitations, well, whaddya do?)

  • CS6, standard motion menu loops to black

Since I have beaning having the problem with rendering my blu-ray project, I worked on a DVD project today that I had previously completed in CS5.5
My client requested some changes, so I made the modifications in Premier Pro, created a MPG2 file,
and replaced it in the encore project. This is a motion menu (standard "NTSC_Floral Menu").
Since this worked previously I had no doubt it would work again, but when I viewed the DVD, the menu (motion) only runs for about 30 seconds and goes to black. The thumb nail buttons are still visible (non animated).
The exact same thing happens in Preview!
    Loop is set to forever!

Great, thank you both for your replies.
The motion menu is not created by me but one of your standard menu's included in the library. All I did was import the video and audio, create thumbnail buttons and linked to chapter points (non motion buttons).
Also when I replaced the asset, I did not use the "replace Asset option". I essentially did it the old school way (dumb way) by importing the new video asset only (not the Audio) with a new name. The change made to the Ppro project was just text. I then deleted the old asset, recreated my chapter points and relinked to the buttons.
Again, this problem never happened in CS5.1, only now in CS6.

  • Issue with Motion Menu looping in CS6

Greetings all!  I have been troubled with a recurring issue in a project I've been working on for a while where my Main Menu (the only one I have with a moving background) will not loop correctly.  I am not an Encore veteran so there may be something simple that I'm doing wrong and just haven't caught yet... or perhaps this is some weird bug, I'm not sure.  Here is what I've set up and the problem I'm having:
My Main Menu has 4 buttons: one goes to a primary video and the others are 3 submenus... all submenus work fine and can link back to the Main Menu without issue and when the Main Menu first loads, it also works fine with the video in the background playing normally.  The primary video linked from the Main Menu also returns to the Main Menu as its End Action.  My problem arises when the Main Menu is allowed to reach the end of its video and loops back to the beginning again before navigating away to another part of the disc.  When it loops, the background video plays all the way through a second time like you would expect, however the menu is no longer interactive and no buttons can be pressed (the highlight also disappears on the second loop).  Following the conclusion of the second loop, the Main Menu doesn't loop a third time but rather jumps randomly to about chapter 2 or 3 of the primary video!  I have definitely not set it to do this.  I was not sure what to do about the End Action of the Main Menu itself, as the "Motion" tab of the Menu's properties has a drop-down for looping the motion part... thus so far I have the End Action set to "Main Menu: Default".  The motion background video is 45 seconds long and I have tried messing with the loop settings under the Motion tab, but it hasn't seemed to make much of a difference, it still breaks.  Just for clarification, this is an error which I didn't notice right away because it appears to loop through the menu a second time normally, but the error occurs after the first play of the motion menu.  Also, it happens both in preview and when I burn it to a disc.
If anyone else has experienced an issue like this or happens to know what I did wrong, please let me know so I can finally get this DVD project over with!  I would be most grateful!  Thank you!

Project corruption most frequently occurs because one or more changes are made and Encore gets "confused." But we rarely know why some such changes behave correctly and others do not.
If you must change an asset use a different name, never ever simply overwrite.
This just may be the issue then... Using Adobe's fancy "Dynamic Link" thingy I did edit a few assets after importing them into Encore.  Sadly, I think Encore is definitely confused by this as now every time I open my project it prompts me to re-import one of the assets because it detected "changes" when in fact I have not changed it more than once and it is just trying to re-import the same thing over and over.  I really wish I'd known to take these measure beforehand as I'm not sure how long it'll take now to rebuild the project completely, but I suppose I have no other choice if I want a working menu...  wish me luck!
I'd like to note, however, that the asset that it always prompts me for is NOT related in any way to the Main Menu that is causing problems.  It's an asset linked to from a different submenu.  Also, I had planned everything out first, but as you might expect, little hiccups appear along the way and things need to be tweaked to have them work the way you want.  Or maybe you think to add something later that you hadn't thought of before, it actually happens pretty often.
Still, it seems like Adobe is trying to promote the easy manipulation of assets within projects with the Dynamic Link feature.  I really hate how these softwares do not even work the way they should... and yet Adobe charges people insane amounts of money for them.
Is there any good DVD authoring software that isn't so temperamental?  I apologize if this isn't the appropriate place to ask... just curious for the sake of my own sanity.

  • Picture jumps at menu loop point

You people that do this DVD thing every day are freakin' saints! You must have immeasurable patience...
NOW the client wants to add an audio loop to the 18 menus...
SEEMS like not that big of a deal, except that the picture jumps ( a little hiccup ) each time the reset happens...
    anyone...?... Bueller...? Drew?
    N

    When in doubt..cheat
If you have the space (and make the audio loop AC3 just in case) extend the loop to a long enough length so people never notice. The only ones who hang around long enough on menus are people who make DVDs who look for those things. (I drive people nuts when they watch DVDs with me, I will sit and watch menus over and over)
So if the audio is 10 seconds, make it 30 seconds (edit accordingly in Soundtrack or whatever). If enough room, make it a minute. If someone is watching a still image for a minute and still does not make a selection, well then timeout the menu where you want them to go

  • Encore CS4 - Main Menu Loops / Repeats Every Few Seconds (Blu-Ray)

    Hello there,
I am experiencing a rather unusual issue with Encore CS4 in which after burning my project to Blu-Ray the main menu (which has a two minute long audio track linked to it) appears to "reset" itself every one or two seconds repeatedly, thus making it next to impossible to select any of the buttons on the menu itself. (I should also note that I've tried playing this disc on both my Blu-Ray player and my computers Blu-Ray drive and both of them have produced the exact same results)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

The only thing I can think of to try is to delete the menu from your project (again!).  Also delete the .wav file asset.  Save the project, then close Encore.  Launch En and open any other project.  Go to Edit | Preferences | Media and clean the cache.  Re-open the problem project and re-import the .wav file and the menu.  Hopefully cleaning the cache will reset whatever En is doing with the menu audio.

  • URGENT! Hide buttons til after loop point on motion menu?

    Hi,
Is it possible to hide the buttons on a motion menu til AFTER the loop point?
I have a menu where there is a 10 second motion graphics intro, then a loop point, then 30 seconds of slight motion graphics in the background. As it should, after 30 seconds, it loops back to the loop point and only plays the last 30 seconds again and again.
The problem I am having is that the buttons appear on the menu at the start, which looks awful as they get in the way of the 10 second motion graphic intro.
Is there a way to make the buttons only appear at the 10 second (loop) point?
As a side note - I tried doing the 10 second intro on its own track, then having the track jump to the menu, but that creates a little delay that is quite noticeable.. It's not a smooth and continuous flow like the way I am doing it above.
    Thanks!!!

    JF:
I add the button graphics into my background movie at the loop point. Then, I create an overlay file in Photoshop and add it to the menu? It will then only activate at the loop point, which works well since that's where the text would appear in the movie?
    That's right!
I don't know is how to add the overlay in
Select your menu, and in the Inspector windows you'll find the Select Overlay option and navigate to your PSD overlay file.
I think that this Basic Menu Tutorial (from Drew13's www.dvdstepbystep.com site) could help you to create a basic overlay. Just keep the background of your file WHITE and your overlays graphics BLACK.

  • ENCORE menu video frozen at loop point

In creating my DVD menu I imported a video and audio file into my project and then linked them up to the main menu under Properties>Motion. At first I did not set a loop point and only the audio played when previewed; the background was black (perhaps the first frame of the video). When I set a loop point at 1 second the audio again played fine but the video was frozen at the loop point frame.
There must be something I'm missing...I thought I followed the tutorial article.
    Thank you!

No, I haven't. I'm remembering that option in the preview window and will try it. Thanks!

  • Initial button state in motion menu

I have a 5 sec motion menu and I want the active button state to delay highlight until the motion is done. I did not set a default button hoping it wouldn't select while playing but that didn't work. Is there a work around?

I just did this in a recent project. You have to use a menu overlay, then set the motion menu’s loop point at 5 seconds. The buttons will be invisible until you hit the loop point. The menu will continue to loop, but won’t include the first five seconds.
I could not get it to work with DVDSP’s built-in buttons.

  • DVD button loop point

I know this question is on here alot and I've already read some different things.
I have a project where the DVD menu has and intro and at about 16 secs. the buttons fade in. I have figured out how to make the button delay by setting the loop point. The problem is now my client wants the whole intro of the DVD menu to loop and have the buttons fade in at 16 secs. Is there anyway to keep the video looping back to the start and have the buttons still come in at 16 secs? i appreciate the help in advance.
    thanks.

So visually, the menu starts, at 16 seconds the buttons appear and they stay on screen whilst the menu appears to loop from the beginning?
What I would do is make a whole bunch of clips into a single clip using FCP and placing them consecutively on the timeline, then export that to use as the menu background. Visually, this will appear to start over and over, but in actual fact it is playing through just once. Make it five minutes long, if you want so that no-one will rightly sit through it all.
Now add your loop point at 16 seconds as before. The buttons will fade in as you want, and then stay on screen as the background footage continues to play, looking as though it is looping. At the very end of your footage there will be a slight pause and the menu will then actually loop to the loop point, missing hte first 15 seconds off. Since this is so long into the menu I doubt very much whether anyone would notice. I would tell the client that this is the most efficient way of achieving the look (which it is) and let them decide if they want something different.

  • MOTION MANUE LOOPING PROBLEM

    Hi all,
I have motion menue for 14 sec. between loops there is a small pause of about 1 sec.
How can I get rid of the pause?
    Thanks
    Shaul

You can't get rid of the pause. The laser on a DVD player has to reposition itself after playing to the end of the menu, and in that time the button highlights will blink off until the menu plays back again.
But you could make it less noticeable by making your motion menu longer, such as taking the background video file into Premiere and repeating it once or twice, which would make your video 28 or 42 seconds long, and then exporting it and using that as your menu video background. The longer your motion menu is, the more likely the viewer is to make a selection before the motion menu loops.

  • Setting loop point on a menu

Is it possible to set a loop point at a specific timecode on a motion menu?
When I try to set a point or use the up and down arrows it doesn't move frame by frame, it moves 10 to 15 frames at a time.
    I am working in PAL

As far as I know, loop points (and chapter markers) can only be placed at I-frames, which is why it moves 10-15 frames at a time. If you need to jump to a specific frame, you'll need to make sure that there's an I-frame at that frame. If you're using FCP, you can place either a chapter or compression marker and then re-export your footage. You'll need to re-encode the footage if you're not letting DVDSP do it.

  • Whenever I enter a loop point, menu background disappears

I've tried all sorts of combinations of menu duration/hold forever/animate buttons with different time lengths..but no matter what, if I enter a time for Loop Point, the background of my menu disappears.
I got it working once by deleting the menu and redoing everything, but now that doesnt work. Please help! All I'm trying to do is have a chapter menu with each chapter showing a video preview about 5 seconds long. I'm using one of the standard menus provided by Encore.
Does anyone know how to get it to work properly?
    I'm using Encore CS4

Maybe someone can educate both of us on this.
I don't recall where I formed the belief, but I generally do not mix a motion background and animate buttons.  I use a still background with animate buttons.  If I wanted to mix a motion background and animate buttons, I'd do it all in After Effects rather than using Encore for the animate buttons.  (You can in fact mix a motion background and animate buttons in Encore, but it does odd things like the one you are describing.)
I believe the "loop point" refers to the motion background and not animate buttons alone.  So when you set a loop point without a motion asset, you see black behind your buttons.  You can work around this by making a video of your still menu background, and selecting that as your motion asset.
All I see in the help document regarding loop point is for motion menus.

  • Is it possible to have a video loop while audio plays in a motion menu?

    Hi!
    Here's the deal:
I have a seamlesly looping 8 second video clip for my motion menu, but the audio file for that menu lasts 1 minute. For rendering time/disc space and bit budgeting purposes I would like to use the video file as a loop while the audio file plays trough in my motion menu.
Is it possible to have the video file loop while the audio plays trough, or do I have to make my video 1 minute long too?
    Any help will be appreciated!

The video must also be 1 minute long too.
You could always loop the 8 second clip though.
Load up Premiere, add your loop & 1 minute audio clip.
Set 2 seconds silence at the head of the audio.
Loop your 8 second clip 8 times to give you a 64 second video clip.
This will give you 2 seconds of silence at the trailing end, but there is really no other way
