Setting multiple tab groups as home?

Here's what I'm trying to do:
I have been using 2 separate tab groups frequently. The first of these are a trio of tabs I use as my home page (all 3, by using the | separator between URLs)
Simply saving my session on close is NOT sufficient!
I often surf about, my tabs become somewhat befuddled and I don't want to start from where I left off when opening FF again, I want to start fresh from my tabs, but in two groups! (so please, don't tell me "Options>Show my windows and tabs from last time" That's not the result I'd like!)
I would LOVE for my "Show my homepage" option to open two Tab Groups.
Is there a similar separator, akin to |, which FF recognizes as a Tab Group separator? Is there a way to save all Tab Groups as my Homepage? so that I am not forced to muck about with whatever mess I've left behind when I closed my last session?

Install the add-ons like speed dial and set it as your home page. Recomended speed dial add on is "FVD speed dial, new tab" install it.

• How do I save or set default Tab Groups?

There are many questions like this already, but non for the actual FF4 release.
When I close FF4 I lose all my tab groups.
If I tell FF to open previously opened tabs, it saves the tabs & tab groups of the most recently closed FF4 window. This means that if I have 2 FF windows open and I close the one that has all of my favorite tabs, I've just lost everything.
I'm sure there is a setting somewhere to "bake" or set basic tab groups. (perhaps a folder that I could bookmark my defaults to?)
I really don't want to have to install an add on to make tab groups useful.

App tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data in the file sessionstore.js in the Firefox Profile Folder
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Session_Restore
Make sure that you do not use Clear Recent History to clear the "Browsing History"

• How can I set the "tab groups" page as my home page?

I've searched for about:config options, and even installed Customizable Shortcuts 0.5.11.1 with the hopes that there would be a shortcut for "options" or "preferences", so that I could simply click "set as home page" while in the tab groups page. No dice. I've just started working with tab groups again (I was away on Chrome for maybe a year... but I'm back), and I think it would be great if I could simply have all my tab groups displayed when I start firefox up. How do I do it?

The tab view page is dynamically populated based on the tab groups in the current window. Although the "page" has an address, opening that address directly yields a blank tab, so I think that's a dead end.
Since the keyboard shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+e, maybe you can find a way to send that automatically?
Also, if you rely heavily on tab groups, I assume you are using something like the Session Manager extension to protect against data loss. Because tab groups (and of course the tabs themselves) are stored only long enough to restore the immediately previous session, it's not too difficult to accidentally lose them all.

• I have multipl tabs as my home page. How can I restore a single tab to home without restting them all

In Internet explorer, my home page consists of four separate tabs. If I click the home page drop down menu, I can select which tab I want the current open tab to restore to. Only that single tab is affected. ie, if I have been surfing in more than one tab, but want to retain some but go 'home' on the others, I can with IE. With Firefox, I have to restore all four tabs.
If I click the home button in IE, it will open the four tabs starting from the open tab. Fiurefox adds a completely new set.
Am I missing something, or do you plan to address this.
I was hoping to come away from IE as it has too many instability problems, however, it still offers more functionality than either Firefox or Chrome.

If you want to open a specific tab(s) the use a folder on the Bookmarks Toolbar and middle click the folder to open all bookmarks in it in tabs or open the folder an click an item to open one of them. Firefox will then open that single bookmark in the current tab, but will open the set in new tabs if you middle-click the bookmark or folder. You can't customize the home page to do that, but you can check the Add-ons page to see if there is an extension that adds that feature.

• How do I set new tabs to open home page

How do I set tabs to open my home page instead of a blank page?
== This happened ==
Every time Firefox opened

Hello Justin.
You can simply middle-click the home button to open the home page in a new tab, or you can install one of the many extensions that let you tweak what the new tab opens. Tab Mix Plus and New Tab Homepage are two of them, although they have different focuses.
I hope this helps.

Hello Ankit,
All you need is to specify the IdMso value of the built-tab where you want to place your controls. See

• How to set new tab to my home pagein Firefox 18

I would like my new tabs to open in google or my home page which has google on it, rather than the 9 little boxes. Is there a way to make my home page open in a new tab? Is there a way to have google search open in a new tab?

hello hildegard, yes this is possible - enter about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up), search for the preference named browser.newtab.url and double-click & change its value to www.google.com (or any other address you want to show up when you open a new tab).

• Multiple tab groups

Hi everyone,
Has anyone created or seen a multi tab form?
Something like the screenshot below:
I'm having trouble when loading the xml all folders get grouped. However when previewed from B1 Studio works fine.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,

Okay, so I see that items are added in reverse order ? You add the button first, and the tab page it goes onto last ?
If so it seems to me that in the button the from_pane="0" to_pane="0" bit determines that the button should appear on the tab page with index 0 (i.e. the first one)
What I wonder about, is that a button is an item with a clear declaration (type="4" uid="Item_8"). Why do you not need to declare the tab page type ?
Is this an implicit thing, i.e. if you don't determine the type it becomes a panel / tab page ?
If that is so, can you explicitly determine a panel / tab page ?

• How can I set Safari to open multiple tabs when I open Safari?

I was able to set multiple tabs to open when I open Safari in the past. However, I do not know how to do so now.
Help!

Hello sgertel,
It sounds like you are asking about the OS X feature called Resume to have previous opened windows re-open when you launch Safari.
Automatically re-open windows, apps, and documents on your Mac - Apple Support
OS X Lion v10.7 and later include Resume, a feature that lets you re-open apps in the same state they were in when you last left them. For example, when you quit Safari, any webpages you're viewing are fully restored the next time you open Safari.
Is this not working for you?  Another thing I use is common folders in the Favorites bar where I can "Open in Tabs" at the bottom of the list.
Take care,
Nubz

• Home page multiple tabs

Is there anyway to load multiple tabs as the home page when opening Safari.

What a bummer. There is nothing like hitting the browser startup button in the morning and having all the pages one expects to work on immediately displayed in tabs. I guess I will just have to keep Firefox as my main browser and continue to have Safari regulated to the background. Thanks for the info. I was hoping to be able to have one browser with work page tabs on it and a second browser with reference page tabs on it. But I will just keep dreaming. Maybe Apple will incorporate this capability someday. They finally incorporated multiple speaker capability into iTunes, a capability I had asked Apple technical support for a couple of years ago, so there is hope.

• How do I delete a tab group or stop it from opening all tabs eveytime I start firefox?

I never set up a tab group but somehow I have one with three tabs in it and I have gone to the group and clicked on the X in the top right corner but it continues to open every tab in the group every time I open a browser. I don't want ANY of these opened, I don't even want a tab group, how do I delete this group thing and how do I make it stop opening these web pages?

Thank-you for your response however, I have NO IDEA what you are talking about. I don't know how to check to see what Firefox is set at upon opening, I didn't change anything, when I click on the Firefox it opens three tabs, none of which are my home page, if I click on it again it will open just one, my home page but I can't get this tab group to go away. I never set any tab group and didn't even know they existed until I tried to open a browser and got the three open tabs, that is when I started looking at the help topics to see what the hell....
So I ask again, how do I delete A tab group?

• Is there a way to move tab group from one window to another?

I have several windows open, and some of them have multiple tab groups. Is there an easy way to move these tab groups between the windows?
I saw the workaround of making bookmarks of all the tabs in one group, move to the target window and open the bookmarks there.
To be honest I found this one a slow and messy way to do things and hope to find a better solution or raise this as a feature request.

Hi bsbs,
I don't think so, there are bugs that do exist about this as well

Patrick helped me find this add on where it groups tab groups into other groups, and there are bugs that have the [feature request] title in them.

• How to set multiple home pages, the option is gone (replaced my hard drive and had to reinstall firefox) This version seems to only offer tabs, not pages?

My old version of Firefox had the option for me to set multiple home pages. My hard drive recently failed and had to be replaced, so I had to install the newest version of Firefox. The only option I see when I go to tools, options, general is to set the one home page. (and maybe tabs) I would like to open several of the same pages every time I open my Firefox. Does anyone know how to get this back, or which version had this feature so I can downgrade to that particular version?
Also, I was wondering if there is a way to get the bookmarks I had on the old version back. I think they are lost forever, but if anyone knows, I would be thankful. I do still have the old hard drive, but the way it failed was actually when you tried to open any browser, the hard drive would go and blue screen, this is why the old hard drive had to be replaced. Thanks. :)

So you mean you want to open new windows with the same page when you open Firefox?
Set more than one website as your home page should help if you want to open multiple pages when you open Firefox.
As for recovering your bookmarks, you can try to plug that hard drive into a working computer, and then read Recovering important data from an old profile to copy your bookmarks from it. However, if it is failing you may not be able to do that.
