Setting Num Lock by default

How do I turn "Num Lock" on by default, either prior to logging in or after a user logs in?? I have tried using "xset -led 1" this just sets the light to be on. I am running Solaris 10 with the latest patch cluster.

I've a sneaking suspicion that there is no resolution, at least as regards setting DEFINE OFF within a script.
The SQL Developer Help under section "SQL*Plus Statements Supported and Not Supported in SQL Worksheet" specifies the SET command for option PAUSE OFF alone. No other SET options are listed; although "DEFINE" is listed as a command, that is the definition of a SQLPLUS variable, not the environment setting DEFINE.
I was looking around for a Preference, but could not see anything; OTOH, it is pretty late at night so I could have missed one.

  • G505S Set Num Lock on at boot?

    I just bought a G505S and an annoying bit is that Num Lock is set off by default. Usually this would be a 10 second fix in the BIOS, as on my last 10-15 computers, but this new craptacular UEFI BIOS has almost NO user changeable options.. Anyone know of a way to turn on Num Lock prior to logon any other way? Or Hint Hint: Lenovo release a new updated BIOS?
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi Aaron,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
    I’m sorry to inform you that in UEFI BIOS settings that NUM lock cannot be Enabled/Disabled in G505S also there is no other available ways to turn it on at the startup.
    Do post us back for further queries.

  • Keyboard Problem, as if num lock is On

    When I type K a 2 is shown. Same with the rest of the keys, J L U I O are shown as 1 3 4 5 6 respectively. But num lock is not on!
    If I set num lock on, none of these keys work.
    Curiously when I turn on the computer the first Key I press works fine, but the second keystroke has the problem.
    Could someone give me an idea?

    I have just startet my HP Pavilion 500-106eo today with windows 8.1. The problem is, that num lock is off after start and restart, and bios is set correctly to on and value in H-key is 2 ( num lock on after start) I have tried to shut down fast start up and it didn't work either. I can manually set num lock on after start....Help me solve this issue, please.

    Eskil4930, welcome to the forum.
    The reason that you can't change "fast startup" is because you have to click on the phrase at the top of the page "Change settings that are currently unavailable".  Once you click on it the settings that you weren't able to change will become available.  Uncheck "Turn on fast startup (recommended) and close the Control Panel and restart the computer.

  • Satellite L50t-A-145 - Num Lock ON as default on Boot Up

    Hi,
    I was wondering if anyone on here knew how to set an L50t-A-145 running Win 8.1 to boot up with Num Lock on as the default boot state.
    I have tried looking at the BIOS settings, where I have always set this before on other computers, but can't find the option here.
    Many thanks
    Iain

    No, this option isnt available in BIOS.
    My Toshiba notebook does not contain such option in BIOS but the NUM LOCK in still enabled after the notebook has been rebooted.
    For example: I boot up the unit NUM LOCK is disabled.
    Now I enable the NUM LOCK pressing numlock button.
    Now, NUM LOCK is ON.
    If I reboot the notebook, the numlock is still ON.

    Its most convenient for us to have NUM LOCK set to "on" at boot up.
    But how to do this?
    I'm used to PCs where this can be pre-set in the BIOS. How to make it work with a MAC MINI?
    We do have an Apple keyboard ( the slim metal wired variety with numeric keypad...)

    Here is something to try:

  • Windows 10 Caps Lock and Num Lock dosen`t work

    Hi guys,

    This problem appered yesterday when windows make the last update.
    If anybody is in the same problem like me please answer the solution.

    I've developed registry settings that both enable the "Filter Keys" feature in the Ease of Access center and use other values for which there are not UI fields to set repeat values to slow things down, but use values a little different
    than those provided by the UI.
    With this registry file the start of auto-repeat is slowed to 440 milliseconds, and the keys repeat at a reasonable rate of something around 30 per second.
    http://Noel.ProDigitalSoftware.com/ForumPosts/Win10/Win10FastKeyboardRepeatFix.reg
    Here's what's inside the above:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Accessibility\Keyboard Response]
    "Last Valid Wait"=dword:00000000
    "Last Valid Delay"=dword:000003e8
    "Last Valid Repeat"=dword:000001f4
    "Last BounceKey Setting"=dword:00000000
    "Flags"="59"
    "DelayBeforeAcceptance"="0"
    "AutoRepeatRate"="20"
    "AutoRepeatDelay"="440"
    "BounceTime"="0"
    The following registry file disables "Filter Keys" and returns Windows to the default settings.  If you employ the above, after the next build drop I suggest running the following and see if Microsoft has fixed the problem (they've acknowledged
    it and said it will be fixed in a future build).
    http://Noel.ProDigitalSoftware.com/ForumPosts/Win10/Win10KeyboardRepeatReturnToDefault.reg
    The above contains:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Accessibility\Keyboard Response]
    "Last Valid Wait"=dword:00000000
    "Last Valid Delay"=dword:000003e8
    "Last Valid Repeat"=dword:000001f4
    "Last BounceKey Setting"=dword:00000000
    "Flags"="58"
    "DelayBeforeAcceptance"="0"
    "AutoRepeatRate"="500"
    "AutoRepeatDelay"="1000"
    "BounceTime"="0"
    If you're at all skeptical about running downloaded .reg files from other folks (as you should be), I encourage you to use the text yourself or download them and look inside with an editor before running them.

    I've just started having problems with my NUM LOCK.  For the last 3 years I've had it off - no problems.  Now all of a sudden it's toggling on and off by itself.

  • Num lock activated on login screen

    Hello,
    anyone have a solution to enable num lock on multipoint server ? I've change registry value (initialkeyboardindicator in H_Key_User), and the num lock is activated at the beginning, but when the server detect station and load the identification page, num
    lock turn off.
    Do you have a solution to fix this bug ?
    Thank's

    I think what we need here is a modern version of this article
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/262625/en-us which creates a logon script using WSH. I don't think that will work with 2012. Someone might want to try with a test box. I would expect it to just fail not do any actual damage if it doesn't work.
    I also found this which are registry values for Win7. These are "probably" still relevant and could also be tested. I found this as a solution in another forum.
    "I experienced the same problem myself; fortunately, the solution is simple.  For some reason, the default value of some of the registry keys (not all) were changed in windows 7, which causes the system to apparently ignore the InitialKeyboardIndicators
    settings in the other locations.  All that is requireded is the performance of a search of the registry using regedit for that key.  It is important to use the find function to locate ALL keyboard keys forInitialKeyboardIndicators
    and set them to the same value setting.  The value options are as follows:
    0 - Turn all indicators Off (NumLock, CapsLock, ScrollLock)
    1 - Turn CapsLock On
    2 - Turn NumLock On
    3 - Turn CapsLock and NumLock On
    4 - Turn ScrollLock On
    5 - Turn CapsLock and ScrollLock On
    6 - Turn NumLock and ScrollLock On
    7 - Turn all indicators On (NumLock, CapsLock, ScrollLock)
    In my case, the string value was some 7 or 8 digit number such as 21765430.  These entries are the cause of the reboot change in the num lock status.  If you want it on when you boot, set the string value to 2 in all the keys with numeric values.
    Problem solved!"
    Happy testing. Let us know if it works please.
    thanks, Amy

  • Can I enable Num Lock on boot up via a VBScript in Win 8.1 with Update 1?

    Hope this is the correct place for this - someone directed me to the TechNet Forums from the Windows 8.1 general forum, and then from the 'Windows Forms General' forum to this one (not sure if my thread has been copied/moved to this forum already by one
    of the moderators; if it has, my apologies, but I am not am regular forum user and I don't understamnd most of the shorthand being used by others, whether something is something someone has written as part of a repsonse or an action they have taken, or just
    part of their sign off or what).
    In the good old days of Windows XP, I was able to ensure Num Lock was on at boot up by the use of a small VB Script file, which was this:
    set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    WshShell.SendKeys "{NUMLOCK}"
    It is really annoying with Win 8.1 that on Boot Up, AND
    every time I want to switch user, Num Lock goes off (even if it was on before switching user).  I want Num Lock to be on at Boot Up AND stay on when switching user.
    I have seen the suggested remedies in other forums about changing the appropriate value in the Registry (which does not work until after logon) and changing the BIOS setting (which does not work because Windows overrules the BIOS setting).  The question
    is whether the VBScript solution will work with Win 8.1?
    If it will, in which folder do I put the Script file in order for it to work for all Users?
    And do I have to make the any changes to Group Policy to make it work, and if so what chnages, as seems to be the case if the OS was Win 7 (mine is Win 8.1 Update 1, and NOT Win 8 Pro).
    Thanks in advance for all technical help on this one.
    Neil

    Hi jrv
    Fine, and I followed your advice straight away (I posted exactly the same question on the GP Forum) and recived one reply about creating a script and using GP to do something.......
    BUT
    as my post above dated 10th September states very clearly:
    "Perhaps I need to add that this is a single, standalone, home PC, with 2 users, running Win 8.1 Core/Basic.  Also, I cannot find the Group Policy Editor on the PC; when I type either 'gpedit' or 'gpedit.msc' into Run, I get a message saying that
    the file canot be found on the PC.  This when logged on as user with administrator powers.  It is not found either from a Command prompt.  And there does not seem to be a GP Snap-in available via the MM Console."
    Given that situation, how on earth do I use Group Policy?
    I am not frustrated with the people who are trying to help me and I have tried everything that people have suggested.  But I am frustrated that people do not seem to be reading my contributions to this debate which are trying, as clearly as I know how,
    to explain what is actually happening at my end.  All I can truthfully say is that NONE of those suggestions that I am able to implement turn NumLock on at initial Bootup before anyone logs on.
    And I do not have access to Group Policy to change or add a new Script of any sort there.  If you are able to tell me how I can do that, then I might well be able to achieve what I want.  But it now seems that, without that, I cannot achieve what
    I want.  If that is the case, then end of.
    Neil
    Ok - you are home y=user with little technical training on deployment and management of desktop systems.  You should be posting in
    htttp://answers.microsoft.com.  This forum is for administrative scripting and not for user PC repair and configuration.  Forget about GP as it is for trained technicians and not for home users.  All you need to
    do on a home PC is to set the registry once.  There is a "FixIt" in the link I posted that will do this for you.
    You can also call the vendor or Microsoft support for help with the issue.  It is in no way a script related problem.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • How do I toggle num lock in Windows 7 via Boot Camp 4.0 on a MacBook Pro (Late 2011)?

    Is there a keyboard shortcut to enable num lock on the MacBook Pro 2011 (Late) in Windows 7 via Boot Camp 4.0?  I have a mouse with a numpad mapping on the side of it.  When I press the number keys, the cursor responds in the way one would expect it to with the num lock off (ie, 6 moves it right, 4 moves it left, etc); however, I need to use it to produce numbers.
    I have read http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1220, which covers the previous MBP keyboard (on which the F6 key function was numlock), but I can't find any information regarding the possibility of doing this with the new MBP model keyboard (on which the F6 key function is increasing the keyboard backlight).  Any thoughts?  Suggestions?

    I was looking for this answer and found it on another site. I realize this is an old thread, but just in case someone else stumbles here and needs to do it, here's how to turn numlock on or off in Windows, and to make it stick:
    Run Registry Editor (RegEdit)
    In Windows 8 or earlier you can press Command-R, then type regedit
    In Win7 or earlier, you can also just click Start menu, and type regedit in the search field.
    In the Registry Editor, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Control Panel -> Keyboard
    Within the Keyboard folder, you should have an entry named InitialKeyboardIndicators. Set the "Data" value accordingly:
    0 = Num Lock is turned OFF after login
    1 = Disable Num Lock
    2 = Numlock is turned ON after the login
    I hope this helps.

  • Can I use a VB SCript to enable Num Lock at logon in Win 8.1 with Update 1?

    Hope this is the correct place for this - someone directed me to the TechNet Forums from the Windows 8.1 general forum, and then from the 'Windows Forms General' forum to one on Scripting and now to this one on Group Policy this one.  Hope I have now
    got to the correct technical forum to answer the question below, which is driving me nuts.
    In the good old days of Windows XP, I was able to ensure Num Lock was on at boot up by the use of a small VB Script file, which was this:
    set WshShell = CreateObject("WScript.Shell")

    Thanks in advance for any help on this one.  Please note, I am NOT an expert user, so please try and explain any shorthand you use that you take for granted but which I won't understand!!
    Neil

    Thanks for this reply, RBoyde, but........
    ... as my orignal message suggested, I have hardly a clue what you are saying and the link doesn't help me understand any better either (as it doesn't seem to help with how to do something with an existing Registry key).
    To be speciific:
    1.  what script do I write?
    2.  where do I save it so it works for all users at logon AND on switching users?
    3.  how do I "run it as a logon script via group policy"????
    Perghaps I need to add that this is a single, standalone, home PC, with 2 users, running Win 8.1 Core/Basic.  Also, I cannot find the Group Policy Editor on the PC; when I type either 'gpedit' or 'gpedit.msc' into Run, I get a message saying that the

    Please clarify for me what looks to be a helpful response - for I am just a 'bear of little brain' (as per Winnie the Pooh).
