Setting page size of PDF converted from .ps by Preview
I'm trying to generate an A4 PDF from an A4 .ps file, but Preview changes the page dimensions to 8.5"x11". I'm assuming/hoping there must be some way of setting the default page size, but I can't find it in Preview's preferences, or in the printing section of System Preferences.
Some background, if it matters:
The .ps was generated by Inkscape, which isn't aware of the OS X printing services, but does allow PostScript output to a file. The bounding box defined at the top of the .ps is A4 proportioned (596:842 = 1:1.414), but I don't know what the units are.
Hi Lynne,
I can't remember if any of the defaults changed in Acrobat v.9 (it's at v.XI now). However, the options in the Acrobat Print settings are "sticky", so perhaps it was set for one job and not noticed when yours was run.

Setting page size in Numbers on Ipad?
Anyone know if you can set page size in Numbers on Ipad?
I don't see a setting for page size. Everything else related to that (sans setting the page size) appears to be found here:
Click the wrench
Share & Print
Print
Select portrait/landscape, content size, page numbering, headers
Done (don't actually print it)
I wonder if you set the page size when you actually go to print it. I don't have a printer to try it on. Otherwise it looks like 8.5x11 is all you get. -

Need Help Programmatically setting Page Size for printing to Adobe PDF
We are upgrading from Adobe 5 to Adobe 9. In Adobe 5, we set a few parameters in the __pdf.ini file to create a document with a specific Page Size. For Example:
[Acrobat PDFWriter]
PDFFileName=
bDocInfo=0
Orient=1
bExecViewer=0
cpmarginwhole=18
cpwidepart=0
cpwidewhole=612
cpheightpart=0
cpheightwhole=792
Paper=0
Since upgrading to Adobe 9.2, this no longer appears to work. I have also tried adding these values to the following Registry Locations with no luck:
HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat PDFWrite
and
HKCU\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Distiller\PrinterJobControl
Is it still possible to create a custom page size using this method? Or am I going to have to do that in a different way?Bill, thanks for the quick response. However, we generate many forms on a daily basis with different page size requirements. The way this was accomplished through Adobe PDFWriter was by setting the various parameters in the __pdf.ini file for the Document that we are generating. I believe we have about 7 different page sizes that we generate.

Setting page size in INDD for crown quarto in p ( point?)
hi- not sure this is a " problem" so much as a question.
I am revising my project ( never " approved" final yet:).
the book specs are for crown quarto- which I want. I need to convert the INDD-pdf into specs that match crown quarto. I have the numbers 7.44x9.68 ( or 18.91cmx24.589 cm), etc. HOWEVER.. when I went into the INDD file for page setup.. and custom page layout. it is listed in/ as 36p0 and 54p0... not inches or centimeters.
SOOOOO... what specs/numbers do I need to enter so that it fits a crown quarto layout?
thanks
TeriQuoting Peter Spier <[email protected]>:
hi again,
( btw- those B masters do have dotted X's through the page.
placeholder thingy?).
anyway- trying to figure out how to do what you are suggesting.. not
so much worried/ tentative.. as .. maybe I need the 101 on
placeholders first.. because I'm not sure I am following what you
described ( and you're clear.. that isn't the difficulty:) I think I
just have a gap in the knowledge base..
and yeah- revert and undo are wonderful inventions:)
is there a video/ demo on the placeholders somewhere? btw- i'd be
more than happy to let someone look at the raw file to see what was
done.. ( not asking.. just not hoarding,either:) then someone might
know what to tell me to do, or how to do it.. if they could tell what
was already done/ how set:
thanks so much- what a great learning adventure:)
Teri
I meant move the position, since presumably the size and shape is correct.
Here's how placeholders work: When you place content into them on
the document page they remain linked to the master page for any
attribute you don't subsequently change on the live page. A typical
example would be a placeholder text frame on the master for a
headline (in this case it probably would have text in it that said
Put headline here, and you'd override it manually to change the
text, but the principle is the same).
You change the headline on the live page, but do nothing else. Now,
if you go back to the master page and chnage the color or the font
size of the text in the palceholder, the color of or font size your
live headline will also change. If you move the headline frame on
the master page, the headline will move on the live page.
If, however, you decided to change the font size from 14 pts to 18
pts onthe live page, but then changed it from 14 pts to 24 pts on
the master page, the one you changed on a live page would not be
affected by the size change.
I sense you are nervous about trying this. You can't do any real
damage by trying. Save the document before you, and if it doesn't do
what you want you have both the undo command and the revert command
available.

Custom Page Sizes - How to change from centimeters to Inches?
Hello,
I'm working on some panoramic prints to an Epson R2400 and I need to set up a custom paper size for printing to roll paper. When I select Custom Page Sizes from the Page Setup dropdown, all my measurements are forced into centimeters. Even if I try and specify it to be in inches when I type in the values, I get an error saying "Invalid Number" because of the " (in mark designation).
And because the input box only allows two decimal places, I can't get accurate inches-to-centimeter conversions because the sizes I need are 3+ decimals when converted to centimeters.
Searching on the web I've come across many pages with info on the Custom Page Sizes dialog box and the images show the values being set in inches, but I've found nowhere that says where you specify where I can change this default measurement?
If anyone could help me, it'd be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Kristin.Answering my own questions.
Because I'm Canadian, in Preferences -> International -> Formats I needed to change "Measurement Units" to "US" instead of "Metric".

Setting page SIZE in INCHES?
I want to work with inches. When I go to set the page size in the Inspector \ document \ page setup my choice is only in centimeters. The template I'm required to work with is in inches. The conversions make weird numbers and make it extra difficult for me to manufacture a 'print-ready' PDF.
Is there a way I can set my page size in INCHES??
BenSorry, I was looking at the margin boxes when I tried the change in Pages Preferences. My error.
As for downsizing from Legal, those dimensions are not proportionate so there is no way to achieve that without adjusting or skewing things. If it’s a few pages it shouldn’t be a lot of work, but if there are many pages (as I suspect) I can see why you wouldn’t want to do that. However, if you’re willing to fill a little excess space on the sides with something, or you can live with larger margins, you can bring it down to 7.25 X 4.4. At the moment I can think of no way to reduce the mixed content except via PDF.

How to calculate output page size of pdf map request?
Hello,
i have a problem regarding requesting a map as pdf and the resulting page size of the pdf in MapViewer version Ver11_B071001.
i defined a bbox in srid 82015 that has a width of 297m and a height of 420m. The scale is 1:1000.
According to the documentation the standard device resolution is 96dpi, so the above bbox will result in an image with 1122 pixel width and 1587 pixel height.
A request with format="PNG_STREAM" returns an image with exact these dimensions.
But a request with format="PDF_URL" returns a pdf document which dimension is 395.8mm * 559.9mm.
I expected a dimension of 297mm * 420mm (which is DIN A3 as pagesize), so 1mm on the printed pdf equals 1000mm in the real world (scale 1:1000).
Where am i doing wrong?
Thanks for help in advance,
DirkHi Dirk,
based on some comments received from the PDF group, the PDF uses "pt" as reference.
96 dpi can be said as 96 px per in
so 96 px = 1 in
1 in = 1/96 px
1 px = 0.75pt (in 96 dpi system)
1 in = 72pt
1 in = 2.54cm = 25.4mm = 0.0254m
so in your calculation, you need to multiply by 0.75 in order to convert "px" into "pt".

I am trying Acrobat X on XP and 9 on Snow Leopard. Probably my question is one of FAQ, but I could not find a solution on the web.
I would like to know if I can easily change the page size (dimension) of a PDF file. For example, I have a PDF whose dimension is 50 mm x 100 mm with 1200 dpi. I want to change this PDF to 100 mm x 200 mm with 600 dpi. Because OCR function automatically down sample the file to 600 dpi, but I don't want to loose the detail of images.
Is there any easy solution?
If I "Print" the file to a new PDF from Preview.app print dialog using a custom page size and 200% scale factor, I can save the file in 100 mm x 200 mm. But Acrobat cause an error while OCRing this new PDF.I think this may help. I had a different problem, but similar.
There is a setting in the OS X print dialog box (under Copies & Pages) called "Paper Handling". By default it is set to "Scale to fit paper size: Letter" This has taken me weeks to figure out. We were trying to print large format (30" x 42") PDFs and they were alway coming out 8.5 x 11. I hope this helps you out.

Change page size in PDF (Acrobat 9)
I have created a PDF file and under document properties it says that the default page size is 11.69 x 8.26 in. I want to change this to A3, but cannot find the option or any help on this.
The PDF was created using the PDF printer from an application that normally only prints to A3. This created a separate PDF file for each sheet of the document, which I then combined using the combine option in Acrobat.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

How do you change default page size in pdf?
I purchased CREATE solely to create a pdf file from a scanned document. I created the PDF but the default page size is 30.15 x 20.83 INCHES. I cannot seem to change the page size. I called support services 4 times (talking with Sakthivel, Shashank, Medhet, and one other.) Each time they indicated that they would connect me to the correct people and they disconnected. I want some answers please. This seems to be a simple question. Is Adobe CREATE merely a scam?

Setting Page Size as a Percentage vs. pixels for optimal viewing
Is there a way to set the size of my web pages as percentages so that when viewer open my site, the pages will automatically resize itself to fit the computer on which it is being viewed?
Thanks in advance!
:)LYou will get better results using a hybrid of % along with min- and max-width in pixels. This will keep your page layout from collapsing or expanding too much on super wide and super narrow displays.

background-color: #222;
width: 90%;
min-width: 1045px;
max-width: 1580px;
margin-right: auto;
