Setting performance (GPU) in preferences (PS CS5)

HI all,
this is my first post and I am just starting learning PS CS5.
I have a MBP i7 2.66 / 8Gb RAM with GT330M GPU and I noted that when I go into the performance panel (under preferences setting) the default values of cache levels / size are respectively 4 / 128k.
If I press the big and flat button the settings change to 6 / 128k, i.e. there is no change of cache tile size (though level jumps to 6): is this normal? Why does it not rise to 1024?
Is it due to PS or to my HW configuration?
Thank you for your kind feedback and help
Cheers

fv88,
This is an expected behaviour. For more details on optimizing PS CS5, check this link:

  • Where do you set drawing mode in preferences? Can't find anywhere

I read Chris' response to the issue of the screen going dark when using tools. He said to set the drawing mode to basic in preferences. I can't find an option anywhere in preferences to do this. Where do I go to accomplish this?

Preferences -> Performance -> GPU section, click the Advanced button.
But you're still better off updating the video card driver from the GPU maker's website to work around the Win8 GPU bug.

  • How can I set up a default page in CS5-CC?

How can I set up a default page in CS5-CC?

Save or modify one of the presets here on Mac (windows similar location):

When making a new document, choose the preset you saved.

  • There is no "performance" tab in Preferences

I just watched the new YT video about "hidden gems in lightroom CC" I am keen to try these new features, so I updated to v5.7.1 and I can't see these improvements. There is no "auto" in Catalog Settings\Standard preview size and there is no "performance" tab in Preferences. I'm in Australia, are we getting a different version? Can anyone help?

Hmm - I have this problem too.
    I'm confused.
I have Photoshop/Lightroom - what I thought was CC - I pay monthly - my understanding is that I get the latest Lightroom and upgrades when they are available. The about in Lightroom has only ever describe it as Lightroom 5.x... Never Lightroom CC. Photoshop is described as Photoshop CC.
Today I was offered an upgrade - Pano/HDR/Performance improvements etc. So I upgraded. It upgraded but is showing Lightroom 5.7 - not 6 not CC. Pano/HDR etc are all there.
So what am I missing? What do I have to do to get version CC/6? I have tried to find where to upgrade to CC/6 on the Adobe web site - but I can't find it.
What is it that I'm not understanding?
I'm running Windows 7 64bit, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 with latest drive from Nvidia site.

  • I Can't Switch between 'power-saving GPU' and 'High-Performance GPU' in Catalyst Control Center

    Hi,
Whatever if my computer was only on the battery or was only plugged in to the main power supply. In Catalyst Control Center, I noticed that 'High-Performance GPU' was always selected', although the 'automatically select power-saving GPU when on battery' was enabled. Also, When I tried to switch into the 'power-saving GPU', there was no response at all. However, when my laptop was only on the battery, I noticed the the try of switching into 'Power-Saving GPU' results in shutting down my computer suddenly.
Thus, I had to open the Device Manager, then I disabled 'Radeon HD'. After that,  'power-Saving GPU' was selected(Screen shot below), regardless of whether my laptop was on only the battery or was only plugged in to the main power supply. To switch it into 'High-performance GPU' again, I only must enable 'Radeon HD' in the Device Manager since clicking on 'High-performance GPU' in the Catalyst Control Center didn't respond.
As conclusion, 'High-performance GPU is always selected, regardless of whether my computer was only the Battery, or was only plugged in to the main power supply. To let 'power-saving GPU' is selected, then 'Radeon HD' must be disabled in the Device Manager.

  • Cpupower - can set performance and powersave governors only

    Hi,
I got a HP compaq nx6110 laptop (I know, it's old and slow but it fits my needs for a laptop and it was free ). To increase the time on battery I installed laptop-mode-tools and cpupower. The laptop-mode-tools does what it should but cpupower doesn't set the governors correct.
After modprobing p4_clockmod I can make use of cpupower to get infos:
    [root@Laptop wudu]# cpupower frequency-info
    analyzing CPU 0:
    driver: p4-clockmod
CPUs which run at the same hardware frequency: 0
CPUs which need to have their frequency coordinated by software: 0
    maximum transition latency: 10.00 ms.
    hardware limits: 175 MHz - 1.40 GHz
    available frequency steps: 175 MHz, 350 MHz, 525 MHz, 700 MHz, 875 MHz, 1.05 GHz, 1.23 GHz, 1.40 GHz
    available cpufreq governors: ondemand, performance
current policy: frequency should be within 175 MHz and 1.40 GHz.
The governor "performance" may decide which speed to use
    within this range.
current CPU frequency is 1.40 GHz (asserted by call to hardware).
    boost state support:
    Supported: no
    Active: no
But I can't set the governor to ondemand:
    [root@Laptop wudu]# cpupower frequency-set -g ondemand
    Setting cpu: 0
    [root@Laptop wudu]# cpupower frequency-info
    analyzing CPU 0:
    driver: p4-clockmod
CPUs which run at the same hardware frequency: 0
CPUs which need to have their frequency coordinated by software: 0
    maximum transition latency: 10.00 ms.
    hardware limits: 175 MHz - 1.40 GHz
    available frequency steps: 175 MHz, 350 MHz, 525 MHz, 700 MHz, 875 MHz, 1.05 GHz, 1.23 GHz, 1.40 GHz
    available cpufreq governors: ondemand, performance
current policy: frequency should be within 175 MHz and 1.40 GHz.
The governor "performance" may decide which speed to use
    within this range.
current CPU frequency is 1.40 GHz (asserted by call to hardware).
    boost state support:
    Supported: no
    Active: no
After modprobing cpufreq_conservative and cpufreq_powersave cpupower tells me that these governors are available now:
    [root@Laptop wudu]# modprobe cpufreq_conservative
    [root@Laptop wudu]# modprobe cpufreq_powersave
    [root@Laptop wudu]# cpupower frequency-info
    analyzing CPU 0:
    driver: p4-clockmod
CPUs which run at the same hardware frequency: 0
CPUs which need to have their frequency coordinated by software: 0
    maximum transition latency: 10.00 ms.
    hardware limits: 175 MHz - 1.40 GHz
    available frequency steps: 175 MHz, 350 MHz, 525 MHz, 700 MHz, 875 MHz, 1.05 GHz, 1.23 GHz, 1.40 GHz
available cpufreq governors: powersave, conservative, ondemand, performance
current policy: frequency should be within 175 MHz and 1.40 GHz.
The governor "performance" may decide which speed to use
    within this range.
current CPU frequency is 1.40 GHz (asserted by call to hardware).
    boost state support:
    Supported: no
    Active: no
    So I'm trying them:
    [root@Laptop wudu]# cpupower frequency-set -g conservative
    Setting cpu: 0
    [root@Laptop wudu]# cpupower frequency-info
    analyzing CPU 0:
    driver: p4-clockmod
CPUs which run at the same hardware frequency: 0
CPUs which need to have their frequency coordinated by software: 0
    maximum transition latency: 10.00 ms.
    hardware limits: 175 MHz - 1.40 GHz
    available frequency steps: 175 MHz, 350 MHz, 525 MHz, 700 MHz, 875 MHz, 1.05 GHz, 1.23 GHz, 1.40 GHz
available cpufreq governors: powersave, conservative, ondemand, performance
current policy: frequency should be within 175 MHz and 1.40 GHz.
The governor "performance" may decide which speed to use
    within this range.
current CPU frequency is 1.40 GHz (asserted by call to hardware).
    boost state support:
    Supported: no
    Active: no
    [root@Laptop wudu]# cpupower frequency-set -g powersave
    Setting cpu: 0
    [root@Laptop wudu]# cpupower frequency-info
    analyzing CPU 0:
    driver: p4-clockmod
CPUs which run at the same hardware frequency: 0
CPUs which need to have their frequency coordinated by software: 0
    maximum transition latency: 10.00 ms.
    hardware limits: 175 MHz - 1.40 GHz
    available frequency steps: 175 MHz, 350 MHz, 525 MHz, 700 MHz, 875 MHz, 1.05 GHz, 1.23 GHz, 1.40 GHz
available cpufreq governors: powersave, conservative, ondemand, performance
current policy: frequency should be within 175 MHz and 1.40 GHz.
The governor "powersave" may decide which speed to use
    within this range.
current CPU frequency is 175 MHz (asserted by call to hardware).
    boost state support:
    Supported: no
    Active: no
As you can see cpupower can just set performance and powersave. I want to use ondemand when on battery because the laptop is already slow in performance mode but nearly unusable when in powersave mode (175MHz).
BTW I can set to all speeds listed manually. Showing you with 875MHz as example:
    [root@Laptop wudu]# cpupower frequency-set -u 875000
    Setting cpu: 0
    [root@Laptop wudu]# cpupower frequency-info
    analyzing CPU 0:
    driver: p4-clockmod
CPUs which run at the same hardware frequency: 0
CPUs which need to have their frequency coordinated by software: 0
    maximum transition latency: 10.00 ms.
    hardware limits: 175 MHz - 1.40 GHz
    available frequency steps: 175 MHz, 350 MHz, 525 MHz, 700 MHz, 875 MHz, 1.05 GHz, 1.23 GHz, 1.40 GHz
available cpufreq governors: powersave, conservative, ondemand, performance
current policy: frequency should be within 175 MHz and 875 MHz.
The governor "performance" may decide which speed to use
    within this range.
current CPU frequency is 875 MHz (asserted by call to hardware).
    boost state support:
    Supported: no
    Active: no
Hope some one has an idea...
    Thanks in advance.

It's an Intel Celeron CPU and according to https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CP … ncy_driver p4_clockmod is correct.
Trying to modprobe acpi-cpufreq gives me that:
    [root@Laptop wudu]# modprobe acpi-cpufreq
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'acpi_cpufreq': No such device
And p4_clockmod puts speedstep-lib in as well:
    [root@Laptop wudu]# lsmod | grep p4
    p4_clockmod 3201 0
    speedstep_lib 5136 1 p4_clockmod
    With speedstep-lib loaded without p4_clockmod I can't use cpupower:
    [root@Laptop wudu]# rmmod p4_clockmod
    [root@Laptop wudu]# lsmod | grep p4
    [root@Laptop wudu]# lsmod | grep speed
    speedstep_lib 5136 0
    [root@Laptop wudu]# cpupower frequency-info
    analyzing CPU 0:
no or unknown cpufreq driver is active on this CPU

  • 2 question about GPU and Lens correction ,cs5

    Hi
i have 2 questions about Gpu and lens correction in Cs5
    1)Filter->lens correction->search online
i get often and almost every connection time out at the first click on search online , at the second click i get no online profile
    is it normal?
    2) question is about Gpu
it run faster , but talking about ajustament layer
like saturation or vibrance for example
i found with the gpu on , a light slow refresh compared with gpu off
i have set cache  levels 6 ,history 20
    i guess are the defaul
well i add a saturation layer and move the saturation slide ,increase o decrease saturation
with Gpu Off , the changes are immedially , i mean i can see in real time the increase o decrease of saturation
with Gpu On it takes a few(very few) time more
    again is normal ?
don't be angry , i'm going to buy cs5 and i'm unsecure ... the price make a big role
    thanks

For what it's worth, I also see a timeout on the first [ Search Online ] click, after about half a minute delay.  Second click turns up results immediately.  This happens each time Lens Correction is started, even without restarting Photoshop, and in both 32 and 64 bit versions.  Also note that I started with one profile listed by default (though from the wrong camera) for my 40D with 28-135 zoom.
I alsow noticed that I was seeing progress bar activity in the Lens Correction dialog while I was typing this (even though Lens Correction was NOT the active window) every time I hit the 'L' key.  Strange.

  • Setting performer for embedded workflow

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me as to where we can define and assign a performer to an already defined(embedded) workflow. Do we need oracle workflow builder or can it be done in workflow administrator.
We are using Payables open interface workflow and a notification must go to a performer upon custom validation failure. We'd want the user to be able to query the notifictaion and view the notification from time to time. Also, what is to be done to send an email notification to the performer?
    Thanks in advance

This depends a bit on when you want to assign the performer and how the process was initially defined. I am not familiar with that particular workflow process, but for example if the notification has already been sent but not responded to, the administrator could simply reassign the notification in the Workflow Monitor. Before the notification is sent, if the performer defined for it in the Builder was specified as an item attribute, then the administrator could go into the Workflow Monitor during runtime and set the value of that item attribute. However if the performer was hard-coded to a certain role, then the change would have to be made in the Builder and would be effective only for process instances started after that point. Also if you are talking about adding a notification that is not already in the process, that would have to be done in the Builder as well.
Note that if you are making any changes to a seeded workflow in the Workflow Builder, it is very important to follow the customization guidelines to ensure that the changes will be supported. See the Oracle Workflow Guide and the Payables documentation for details.
To send an e-mail notification, you must run the Notification Mailer, and the user must have a valid e-mail address defined as well as a notification preference for receiving e-mail. For details, see the Setting Up Oracle Workflow chapter in the Oracle Workflow Guide.

  • Setting pdf place/open preferences

Hello, I am trying place all the pages from a multipage pdf into a new AI document. Since placing a pdf with script only lets you pace the first page, I was planning on having the place/open preference change to give access to the different pages but... its not quite working. I can get it to place just fine, but I can't get the preferences to set... as in I can still only place page 1. Another method, although not as nice would be to extract all the pages to a folder and then place them individually but I am trying to avoid it. Any one know how to properly set them? or any suggestions or even letting me know that I'll never get the preferences to stick would be helpful.
    thanks
    I am using:
    mac cs5 and JavaScript.
    javascript code:
    var myDoc = app.documents.add();
//hopefully sets the default page open and place from 1 to 2
    var pdfOptions = app.preferences.PDFFileOptions;
    pdfOptions.pageToOpen = 2;
//lets user select a pdf for placing
    function getFolder() {
return File.openDialog('Please select the file to be imported:')
    function placeAll(selectedFile) {
             var myPlace = myDoc.placedItems.add();
             myPlace.file = selectedFile;
    placeAll (getFolder());

hopefully sets the default page open and place from 1 to 2
I think you will find this app preference is for using with the 'open()' command only… and has no effect on the placedItems.add() command…

  • Performance/History States Preference problem Photoshop CS3

Hello everybody, I am using windows 7/32 bits and I am having a huge problem with my photoshop CS3. When I try to open it it says: Could not initialize Photoshop because file is locked.
Then I go to delete the preferences and it works again but when I close it I get a message that says Photoshop stopped working so I try to open it again and it says again: Could not initialize Photoshop because file is locked. I don't know what to do, I've tried everything (restart computer, delete preferences, delete temporary files) and nothing works. Please help if you can I have a lot of work and can't do anything with photoshop acting like this. Thanks very much in advance.
UPDATE: it seems that the locked file got fixed. But now once I open photoshop I change the performance, history states to 100 cause I need to have that setting. Once I do that and try to close photoshop it never closes and it says photoshop stopped working like it crashes or something, but If I don't change the performance/history states it closes normally, what can I do Please help.
    A.

I don't know why it should crash.  It's happening right when you change the setting?
Assuming you have installed CS3 from your original media, have you updated to the latest Photoshop CS3 release (10.0.1)?

  • GX 70 - Mantle not working Due PowerXpress: Disable iGPU / set primary GPU

    Hello there,
I am a proud owner of the MSI GX70. Is there a known way to disable the iGPU from the APU?
The APU part is registered from the Catalys Driver as Primary 8650G Graphics Adapter, due the way PowerXpress Works, most games register this iGPU as Primary and only Card present.
Normaly it should work to disable the iGPU or set the Primary Card to dGPU , on systems from HP , this works well.
The Problem is that the Catalyst is not registering the 8970M as present in the System ( and also not BF4 ( even if the 8970 is running on Max the Game registers only the 8650G ) or the Star Swarm Demo ) because of this behaviour.
Therefore the speedpush through Mantle ( measured on a nearly identical HP Notebook ) from around 20 - 40 % are not reachable till a) MSI comes up with a way to set the Primary GPU or at least disabling the iGPU in any way or b) AMD comes up in xx Months with a driver Capable to see the secondary card.
    Has anyone seen a solution?

    Quote from: BlueAlexFPS;100063
    Hello WoFNuLL,
I would like to recommend you to set this function at AMD Catalyst Control Center,
choose the switchable graphics and select high performance discrete graphics to use.
Hi BlueAlexFPS: This will not work, as the Graphics Driver registers everytime the APU Part to the Game Engine, even if the Dedicated GPU is already running ( tryed this by giving BF4.exe High Performance and the Windows Calculator also , startet the calc, saw the switch between the GPUs and started BF4 -> BF4 still sees only the 8650G iGPU
    @highwind85:
This is what i already knew, this topic was meant to bring some attention to MSI , that an option to disable the iGPU  in the Bios or via software would be a solution for this problem ( and other Problems regarding reigsering the Wrong gpu in the system ). The problem was solved on other systems with identical hardware in this way.
