Setting Photoshop CS5 as the default for opening all photo files?

How do I make Photoshop CS5 the default for opening all photo files?

Close the jpeg in Photoshop! This procedure is done on an unopened (closed) file in the finder, Photoshop is not involved.
Open a FINDER window, click ONCE to select your file (NOT double click to open it)
Command I or in the Finder, File menu, select Get Info.
In the GET INFO window, change the Open With item to Photoshop
Click the CHANGE ALL button, You will get the warning "This change will apply to all Adobe Photoshop CS5.app documents with extension “.jpg”.
Click CONTINUE and from now on all jpegs double clicked in the finder will automatically open in Photoshop

  • Illustrator CS5 Not the Default for EPS and other Vector Formats

Hey everyone, the issue I'm haveing is not just with Illustrator, but sense I couldnt find a general CS5 forum, and Illustrator was the last CS5 application i noticed this for I'm hoping to find some answers here.
    So on to the issue....
I have noticed that on other computers (Macs for sure) that Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver etc... are set as the default handlers of certain file types that are associated with each application, and as such, give each filetype there own little icons reflecting such.
However on my system (Windows 7 Ultimate x64) this does not seem to be the case. I can go in and set them as default manually, which I have done for the filetypes I use most frequently, but I do not get to enjoy the nice icons that made for each filetype, i just get a bland, default icon that is the same for every filetype.
Is there a way to fix this issue?
    Thanks for you help.

Yes, I think i mentioned it before that I knew I could set the default app through Explorer (right clicking, going to "open with" etc..) but this doesn't let you use any of the custom icons that come with the adobe applications, it sets it as the default icon associated witht he particular application. I'll take a look in the properties when I get home but, but I think you may be referring to the "open with" dialogue.
Most applications like Firefox, iTunes etc.. have a button in there preferences menu to "set as default" for all file types they can open, however I don't see such an option in any Adobe applications except for bridge, and that doesn't seem to do anything.

I believe in the properties pane for one of those files it will display the default app for opening such files and you can  change it there as well and make it apply to all similar files.

  • How to set InDesign CS5 as the default in the system having InDesign CS4 has the default ?

How to set InDesign CS5 as the default .indd application when you have InDesign CS4 and CS5 installed and InDesign CS4 is the current default (InDesign CS4 was installed after CS5 installation)

Thanks, but I already tried it at first but it is not the effective method.
I think its because of the this reason :
Both - InDesign CS4 and InDesign CS5 have their application/program/exe named as "indesign.exe".
Installation of either InDesign CS4 or InDesign CS5, sets a Windows default path for the "indesign.exe". In this case, since InDesign CS4 was installed later (after InDesign CS5 was already installed), the "indesign.exe" which was directing InDesign CS5's "indesign.exe" was replaced by InDesign CS4's "indesign.exe".
But after long google and search through regedit, I've got the solution :
    Locate HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\InDesign.Document\Shell\Open\Command in regedit
Change the value of (Default) attribute to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS5.5\InDesign.exe" "%1"     // Include the quotes

  • Using Crystal Reports as the default for opening .rpt files

    Hi all,
I know this is a simple question with a simple answer, but I'm baffled, so here goes. I'm using Crystal Reports 2008 and I have the Crystal Report Viewer installed on my computer. I want to open .rpt files with Crystal Reports 2008 as the default application, not Crystal Report Viewer.
When I right-click the .rpt file I have three options, Crystal Report Viewer 2008, Microsoft Visual Studio Version Selector, and Choose Program. When I select Choose Program, then click the Browse button, Crystal Reports is not available as one of the programs to choose.
When I look at the programs available via the Control Panel, I see Crystal Reports 2008, but I'm not able to select it as the default for opening .rpt files. I'm assuming the program file is in my Program Files folder somewhere in the Business Objects folder, but I'm not sure which file I need to set Crystal as the default program. Can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance.

    C:\Program Files\Business Objects\Crystal Reports 12
    then crw32.exe

  • Question: how can I tell Bridge I want to set PS CS5 as the default program for opening .psd files

How do I change a specific file type association in Bridge CS5, namely the .psd file type? I had installed Photoshop CS6, but am unable to use it due to extreme slowness (another problem, not for this question). I have reverted to using Photoshop CS5 and Bridge CS5.
Now when I double-click on a .psd file in Bridge CS5 to open it (or right-click on the .psd file) , the file opens up in the glacially slow CS6. I went to edt>preferences>file type associations to change the association to Photoshop CS5, but .psd is not listed as a file type (.jpg and .dng and a host of other file types are listed). How can I change the association if I cannot find the file type? (BTW: I have changed the file type association in Windows Explorer; I am running Windows XP.) I know I can open PS CS5 manually and scroll to the image I want to open but, to my mind, that defeats one of the main purposes of Bridge.
Any advice you can offer would be gratefully received.
    Thank you.
    Heather

Adobe Bridge >> Preferences >> File Associations
This is mac screenshot, but should be in same place.
Win 7 works very goo on my home computer, much better security. One problem myslef inlcuded have had is files permissisons, especially on external drives, and you have to dig to china in the menus to fix it, or else you can't save over the same file name. So if you plan on upgrading do it on a day you can troublshoot to fix that annoyance, though at this point might be good to wait for win8.

  • HT2506 how do you set Preview as the default for opening pdf in browser?

How do I set the Preview application to be the default for viewing PDF's in while in Safari?  Previously, while in Safari and clicking on links to PDF's, they would display with buttons on the bottom that made it simple to view and download the PDF.  Since updating Adobe Reader it seems Reader is now the default application for viewing PDF's accessed from the internet.  I haven't been able to figure out how to revert back to Preview.....

I did this and now Safari won't open the form at all.
I put the files back and it opens in Adobe.
When I save the files to desktop they open in Preview. But I am trying to read pdf's(? forms) while in Safari.
Adobe does not work smoothly in Safari and scrolling to read is a nightmare.
    OS X 10.8.5
This problem came up within the last few months.
Before everything opened in Preview perfectly.

  • Setting Photoshop CC as the default program for all images?

Where do I find Preferences dialog?

There are two levels: The OS (Mac Finder or Windows Explorer) and Bridge.
In the case of jpegs on my Mac, I open them in Preview at the OS level.
If I want them to open in Photoshop, I open Bridge CC, and then double-click on the thumbnails there, which opens them in Photoshop.
Photoshop is usually the default editor for Bridge.

  • How do I make Photoshop the default for opening images?

    Hi,
Right now it's set to Preview. How do I change it to Photoshop? Oh, I have an iMac with 10.6.8 now.
    Thank you.

Right click on the file and choose Get info.  In the Get info field will be Open with where you can select the app to open that file.  You can also select to open all similar files with the chosen app.

  • Setting quicktime 7.6.6 as default for opening all audio

I am having a problem getting rid of or even finding an older version of qt 7 (7.4.5) which seems to exist somewhere on my computer and is set as my default for opening .wav files when I need them to be opened with 7.6.6. How can I find it if within my applications and utilities if the only thing that seems to exist there is 7.6.6? Is there also just some way to set 7.6.6 to be the new default to deal with all audio in the future. I know about going into 'get info' and setting the 'open with' option and then 'change all…' but that still only seems to affect the 'all' in the same folder and not on my whole computer. Would be nice not to have to do all these extra steps every time I need to open up a file. Thanks in advance for any insight.

The update is for Tiger and Leopard only, not Snow Leopard.

  • How can I make CS4 the default for opening?

Help! I have most versions of PS but I prefer CS4. I am a photographer. Forever CS4 was the default when opening photos. Something happened yesterday and now when I double click on a photo to open it it opens but not in CS4. Not sure what version it's opening in. But I want it to open in 4. I can right click each and every time to open in 4 but I open tons of photos all day long and that takes too long. How can I again make it so that CS4 is the default?
    Thank you.

Thanks. I couldn't figure out what you meant.
What does CMD I stand for?
If I right click on a file I can open in CS4 but there's no 'change all' there, just option of opening in CS4 or something else.
I open RAW files. Then later I open jpg files. I think they are opening in CS4 as RAW (not sure) but the jpgs are not. If I right click it says CS6 is the default -- first one listed and has (default) next to it.

  • Make preview the default for opening .pdf

I can't open a document in Preview (when I try an iCloud screen shows up).  So I want to make Preview my default .pdf reader and open the doc by clicking on it's title.  But I don't know how to do that.

    Hi jackoett,
Go into your Documents or Downloads in your Finder and find a PDF file and click on it to select it (not to open it). Then click on "File" in the top menu and select "Get Info". You will see a dropdown like this:
As you can see, it currently says "Open With" Adobe Reader. Click on the little arrows to the right to see your other options:
    Select "Preview"
Right below the dropdown, you will see an option to "Change All" - click on this, and you will get the following warning:
If you do want to open all future PDF docs with Preview, click Continue. If you ever want to change it back, (or just change one of them to Adobe Reader), just follow the same steps.
    Cheers,

  • Set column view as the default for mount

I have a volume that mounts when every student logs on. It is called Stuff, has images, video clips etc, read only sort of things. The clients are all 10.4.11, intel macs. I would like to have this mount always come up as the column view. I don't care if a student changes it, but would like the default be the column view. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance.

You could try this: mount the volume (log in) as an administrator then use this:

  • Change Default for Open New Template File In Adobe Illustrator

How can I change the default folder when trying to "Open From Template".
When I use the open from template it defaults to the template folder in the program folders.
I want to change the default folder to a different location.
    Adobe Illustrator CS3 13.0.2

Here's how to have your templates available in the "File New From Template" in Adobe Illustrator for Windows.
    What you need to have
    Administrator access to your machine.
    What you need to know
The default directory for Adobe Illustrator templates is here (for CS5.1)
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS5.1\Cool Extras\en_US\Templates
The default Windows security doesn't allow shortcuts to be created directly under that directory.
You can, however, create the shortcut indirectly!
    What you need to do
    In Summary
Create one (or multiple) folder shortcut(s) in the default Illustrator template directory.
    In Detail
    Open Illustrator
Select File -> New From Template
Drop down the "Look in" drop-down, note the directory:C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS5.1\Cool Extras\en_US\Templates
Open a Windows Explorer, and navigate to that directory
Open another Windows Explorer, and navigate to the directory where you keep your templates.
Right-click-drag your folder from the second Explorer (your directory) to the first Explorer (default templates) and drop.
Select "Create shortcut" from the right-click popup menu that appears when you "drop" (release the mouse button).
Windows will display a message "Shortcut cannot be created here, do you want to create it on the desktop".
    Select Yes.
Move the directory shortcut to the Illustrator to the first Explorer (default templates directory)
Windows will ask for Administrator permissions.
    Select Yes.
You can right-click on the template shortcut and rename it without the " - Shortcut" suffix; you'll have to grant Administrator permissions for that as well.
After completing these steps, your template shortcut will appear properly and you can select it.  Happy designing!
