Setting preferences in Adobe CS4

Adobe CS4 programs will not display the folders on my computer when I try to save a file or perform a function. For example when using the Export function in Fireworks the drop down menu will not display the folders on my computer. The middle is missing. I have the top which has Save as: a folder is displayed; if I want to change the folder only the most recent folders used are displayed. So I have to save it and then go to Bridge and transfer the file to the folder I want. The three buttons are also missing at the top left: red, yellow, green in the Export Box. How do I change the settings?

If you are getting the message that PowerPC applications are no longer supported, there are some suggestions in this Adobe support article:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/915/cpsid_91595.html
and this thread:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3190134?start=0&tstart=0
Something there should help.
If that's not what you mean, please post back and clarify what it is you are trying to accomplish.
Regards.

What color management settings? Color mode? This sounds like you are simply not using the proper profile.

  • Can I save my preferences in Bridge CS4?

I regularly back up my Photoshop CS4 preferences file (Adobe Photoshop X64 CS4 Prefs.psp). That way, if I have to trash my current prefs because Photoshop has gone haywire, I can simply copy the last good backup to the [Users...] folder, and I don't have to change absolutely everything to the way I like it.
Is there a way of saving Bridge Prefs files? I need to reset my Bridge prefs every couple of weeks, when the Tools, Photoshop... menu item disappears, and it takes a bit of time to rearrange my workspaces, and especially to set up my Favorites list. I'd really love to know a way of saving the Favorites list for reinstallation. Is there a registry key I could save?
    Mary

    Hi John
I'd already tried saving the stuff in C:\Users\Username\roaming\Adobe\Bridge CS4 (in Windows 7, same location as Vista64) and copying it back after  resetting Bridge prefs - trying the files one by one to see the effect. None of them did what I wanted: to restore my Favorites, and things like my highlight color, my customized workspaces, etc.
Last night I trawled through the Registry and found the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Bridge CS4\Preferences. It was all there - highlight color, favorites list, etc. I looked at each value, comparing with Bridge in my laptop, which still has its 'Tools, Photoshop' menu item.
I found the value 'DisabledScripts'. It read:
    GallerySheet
    VersionCue
    VersionCueSDKLoader
    AutoStacks
    photoshop
    bridge-3
In my laptop, the 'photoshop' line wasn't there.
I backed up the Registry in my desktop and removed the 'photoshop' line from 'DisabledScripts'. When I opened Bridge, 'Tools, Photoshop' was back.
I lose it almost every time Bridge crashes, which it does every couple of weeks - and I do use the 'Tools, Photoshop' submenu items a good deal. So now I have a way of restoring it without spending 15 minutes to half an hour setting up my Prefs from scratch.
    I've got 2 possible strategies:
    - open the registry, where I've now saved the Bridge Preferences key as a favourite, and delete the 'photoshop' line from 'DisabledScripts', or
    - export the whole key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Bridge CS4\Preferences' when Bridge is in a fully functional state, and apply it when Bridge goes wonky.
Either of them will take about 2 minutes - a great improvement!
    Best wishes

  • Using iPhoto 09 with Adobe CS4

    Hi,
I am trying to use iPhoto 09 with Adobe CS4.
I have Adobe as the default external editor and when I click on edit file, it opens the file in CS4. The problem is when I save the file, the changes are not reflected in the image and don't show up in iPhoto.
    I found this:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
But that doesn't work for me. The original file just shows up again. Any ideas?
    Thanks..

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The following will help you use PS with iPhoto:
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

  • Help, where are the render preferences in Adobe Photoshop CS6

Okay, I admitt, .... I am an idiot that is new to Adobe Photoshop.
But help the new girl out, here.... Please...
Where are the render preferences in Adobe Photoshop Extended CS6.
I searched Adobe Help in Dutch already but they point me towards options that doesn't excist.
Maybe they were there in Adobe CS5 and I am reading an older version of the documentation...
But in CS6 I can only find the option Render and no Render Preferences...
    Thanks !!

Adobe changed the way video is rendered in CS6. Adobe Media Encoder in now used in CS6 only a subset of the Adobe's full Adobe Media Encoder is included in CS6 is a dll. I do not think you can add new Rendering Presets however you can change some setting when you use the supplied Reddening Presets.  Perhaps if you have the Adobe suite and have the full Adobe Media Encoder you can create some presets and add them to Photoshop Rendering presets.  I seem some compliants about CS6 Quicktime rendering presets lack the power of CS5.  The Rendering presets seem to be stored in sub folders in "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Presets\Video\Adobe Media Encoder" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Presets\Video\Adobe Media Encoder"

  • After upgrading to Lion my white MacBook I can't launch Adobe CS4 Applications. Please help!

Everytime I try launching an Adobe CS4 application (Photoshop, Illustrator, watever...) I keep getting this kind of message, more or less:
"To open [Photoshop] CS4 you should install a Java executed environment, but you are not connected to the internet"
And I am! Why can't I run any of those applications? Can anyone please help me?
    Thanks in advance.

Hello Carolyn, thank you for your help.
I tried what they recommend on the Adobe pages, but the problem seems to be that the internet connection is not being detected.
I tried opening Java Preferences and a similar window appeared saying a Java environment is needed but I am not connected to the internet - but obviously I am.
As soon as I can solve this problem I will try what you recommend.
Can you please help me with the connection issue? As you may see, the window suggests to open the Network Diagnostics preferences panel. When I do, I get a good diagnosis but when I ask to verify the connection and enter the WEP password it fails to connect. I close the Prefs panel and connect again using the signal icon above, and I am back online!
    Thank you again, Carolyn.

  • Adobe CS4 Design Premium Compatability

    Hello,
My daughter is required to use Adobe CS4 Design Premium by her School. I will have to buy a new laptop for this purpose. In this regard, I have few queries:
Most laptops come with Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) OS. Since the Adobe website states that this program is certified for 32-bit, I am not sure whether CS4 could perform perfectly on Vista 64-bit platform?
If the answer to the above is yes, then I intend to purchase a laptop with specs of Intel Duo 2 Core T6500 (2.1 Ghz 800 FSB 2MB Cache), 4GB RAM DDR2 800 MHz, display 1280 x 800, and 250GB 5400 rpm hard drive. Is this hardware sufficient to run CS4?
I am a layman as far as technology is concerned. I called up Adobe technical support 2 times: first time they said it wont work and second time they said it will work!!. I am totally confused. Since this means a significant investment to me, I request help and guidance from anyone on this subject.
    Thanks,
    AlokSaap

As you realize, the sky is the limit in terms of how you can configure a system. You could literally spend $10,000 on a new production PC but that certainly would not necessarily buy you any advantage unless you had particular needs that could take advantage of the extra juice that such a pricey configuration provides.
The problem with your request is that it doesn't say really what the typical user of these 2 to 3 new production PCs will actually be doing. For example, are they doing simple web page design in Dreamweaver with occasional entry into Photoshop to edit low resolution images for web display? Or are they jack-of-all-trade designers with windows open in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator simultaneously dealing with graphically very complex and large files? Dedicated to graphics work or are there half a dozen browser windows plus Outlook (or some other e-mail client) open simultaneously?
Personally, I tend to “over-configure” on the basis that if I buy high quality systems not quite at the bleeding edge, but closer to the leading edge, I'll have a system that has a useful lifetime of at least four to five years although Adobe does “allow” its engineering employees' systems to be replaced every three years. I am currently running on a Dell Precision 5400 workstation (current model is 5500) with dual Xeon Quad Core 3ghz processors, 8GB of memory, two 15000rpm SAS (serially attached SCSI) 300GB disk drives, a DVD+/-R burner, gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth, and an nVidia Quadro FX 1700 video card driving a Dell 3007WP 30" monitor (2560x1600pixels). I have a very pedestrian Dell keyboard, but a Microsoft 8000 Bluetooth mouse. I do run quite a bit of stuff on this system using it as the hub in my office for running backups of other systems (to a bunch of IEEE1394-attached external drives), running InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop often in parallel, running tests against a development copy of the Adobe PDF Print Engine running on my system, as well as having e-mail and browsers open at all time. This system is running Vista Ultimate SP2 64-bit. This is really overkill for most users.
What you can get away for your users with of course depends on the tasks they will be running per my questions in the second paragraph above. Without those answers, some generalities:
    (1)     Unless you are doing heavy video work, you really don't need more than one processor. A single processor at approximately 2.5 ghz or better with either 2 or 4 cores will do fine in most cases.
    (2)     Memory is relatively cheap and will enhance performance more than almost any other resource you can buy today. In conjunction with that, go for either Vista 64-bit or Windows 7 64-bit (stay away from XP 64-bit like the plague). Why? Even though only Photoshop currently has a 64-bit version that can take advantage of 64-bit processing on its own, the 64-bit OS supports more than 3GB of memory and as such allowing larger amounts of real memory, you avoid the tremendous amount of disk thrashing that goes on as part of virtual memory paging operations when a whole bunch of applications running concurrently are competing for a small amount of real memory. I personally recommend 8 GB of memory in conjunction with Windows 64-bit as a minimum, even on new notebook systems!
    (3)     Disk performance is also key, especially if you are dealing with large data files. As such, 10000rpm Serial ATA or 15000rpm SAS (serially attached SCSI) drives make a tremendous, noticeable difference in performance. However, high performance disks are quite pricey, especially the SAS ones since it is now a limited, specialty market. (For new notebook systems, avoid anything other than 7200rpm drives - the difference in cost for a 5400 versus a 7200rpm drive is quite small now. I just bought a new 500GB 7200rpm drive to update my notebook system - the cost of the drive was less than $150.)
    (4)     You don't need a smoking video card (those things that cost upwards of $500 to $1000) to support the Adobe Creative Suite unless you are doing extensive video work or playing high performance video games in your spare time. Typically, a mid-range video card that supports very high resolution (such as 2560x1600) will be fine. What you don't want, either on a desktop system or a notebook computer, is an “integrated display adapter” that shares memory with the CPU. Typically, such video support appears on low end desktop and/or notebook computers - avoid like the plague!
    (5)     For desktop systems, I'm partial to large, high resolution monitors even though my vision is quite good. I'm dealing with graphic arts and I need/want both high resolution and real estate. Although these 30" 2560x1600 monitors are relatively expensive, with reasonable care, they can last for years. I have one such monitor that is now in its fifth year with no degradation of quality. Cost per day is very low to keep your eyes from going crazy and to make your work more efficient. Once you use one these babies, you can't go back!
    (6)     No preference on motherboards. That decision is generally made for you if you order a system from a major vendor. I personally am not into build-it-yourself systems. Not that I can't build those, but quite frankly, my own time is worth something and my biggest problem is having enough time to do everything I want. I get no particular pleasure in DIY computer building.
More if you give me more specifics about the usage profiles for the systems you will need to purchase.

  • Black borders, Adobe CS4 & Canon Eos 550D

    Hi All,
Im pretty new to the video scene, and ive got adobe cs4 for a while but never
used it alot, now im recording video's with a canon eos550d with a great quality,
but allways after my bounce there appears 2 black borders up and down.
the video output format from the canon is: 1920 by 1080 .MOV H264
when I import it in a default page template called "DV PAL Widescreen 48K"
and using the youtube HD setting the output gives 2 black borders at the top of the movie and the bottom.
I tried to put the project to 1080p but then ive got no possibility to hit "enter" and a quick offline render..
is there a way to fix this ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nick

You want a sequence with 1080p square pixels, for a frame size of 1920 x 1080. The presets in CS 4 are in the AVCHD section that would match this, dependent on the frame rate at which you shot and whether your camera shoots progressive or interlaced video. Chose the one that matches the frame rate you actually shot at, you can export at a different frame size and frame rate after editing. The fact that the presets are designed for editing video compressed using AVCHD doesn't really matter as long as the sequence settings match the actually footage.

  • How do I get my adobe CS4 installed?

Ok so here's the problem I bought the student version of adobe cs4 extended. I filled out the form on www.myidentit-e.com/adobe-student-edition. I filled out all the boxes to the best of my ability and the emailed me saying they have my info. So, with that done I took out the c4 disc and put it in my computer. It buzzed and then showed the disc as a Dvd and did not start the setup. So I looked on here for help, it said to click on the main folder in the disc called setup. I did that and I get a text document with a bunch of language written on it that I don't understand (kinda like florum ipsum but not exactly). So how can I set this up or did I just buy a couple discs for two hundred and twenty two bucks for a document with a bunch of weird text on it?
Please help. I hope I wont have to go crazy and shave my head.

Bobpineo Windows 8 was not in existence during the time period which Creative Suite 4 was available.  You are certainly welcome to try installing and utilizing the software under Windows 8.1.
If you need a fresh copy of the installation files then you can download them from Download CS4 products.

  • Adobe CS4 (64bit) Potoshop, InDesign, Premiere crashes on startup

I am in need of some major help.  I have a user who only on his profile Adobe Potoshop, InDesign, and Premiere crash on startup.  I've tried most of the basic trouble shooting but still not working.  Any Ideas?
    Computer Specs:
    HP z400 Workstation
    Intel Xeon W3520 2.66 8MB/1066
    6GB of RAM
    ATI FirePro V5700 512MB Graphics

I was going to suggest resetting application preferences, but with multiple applications crashing, perhaps the problem is with the system...
First, I think I'd look to see if there are any updated display drivers available for the user's system, from the web site of the maker of the display adapter (video card).
You can try to see if disabling OpenGL support in Photoshop restores operation:  Edit - Preferences - Performance, uncheck [ ] Use OpenGL Drawing.
If you do want to try to reset Photoshop preferences back to defaults, which is known to correct a lot of problems, have the user do this:
    1.  Press and hold Control - Shift - Alt immediately after starting Photoshop from its shortcut or menu item.
    2.  When the prompt "Do you want to set preferences back to defaults" comes up, confirm.
    Best of luck.
