Setting Prefernces for Editing in iPhoto 6

In iPhoto 5 if you double clicked an iPhoto and had selected in Prefernces for CS2 to open you could edit there. If you selected the EDIT button in iPhoto it went to iPhoto editing.
I find in iPhoto 6 that selecting CS2 in Prefernces and either double clicking an iPhoto or hitting the EDIT button both take you to CS2. Whatever you selected in iPhoto-- Preferences --General --EDIT IN-- It appears the only way to choose the edit application (CS2 or within iPhoto) is by changing the Prefernce setting in iPhoto. Am I missing something? Thanks for you help.

There are 2 ways to use an external editor and iPhoto's editor without switching preferences around.
1. Set an external editor. Yes, the EDIT button will still open your external editor. But try the Full-Screen Edit Icon (rectangle with arrows pointing outward at bottom left of window). It should open your photo for editing in iPhoto's Full-Screen edit mode.
2. From Old Toad:
Using 2 Image Editors in iPhoto
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and a 3rd party editor without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected the 3rd party editor as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". Then when you Control-click on an image, you can select "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu to edit in your selected editor.

I answered my own question: There's a difference between "download' and "install." Hunt for "install" (1.5 hrs in my case) and line up your passwords, Adobe ID, etc, then install. Took 15 min. The right choice shows up in Applications. Now it's on to figuring out why photo selected for edit in iPhoto does not show up on screen in Elements.

Single Monitor for editing in iPhoto?

My iBook does not present true colors when editing in iPhoto.
I have gone back to the PC and Photoshop Elements for Windows XP to edit photos.
Then, I export them to iPhoto.
Two Questions: 1) what is a good connector device to connect the iBook and the PC to my excellent Trinitron monitor 2) Is Photoshop Elements for Mac a good photo editing program? (Better than iPhoto?)

I can't answer #1 but the answer to #2 is a resounding YES. You can set iPhoto to open PSE when you double click on a photo while in iPhoto. As long as you do not change the file name or extension you can do a regular save. If you create a layered file, necessitating a new extension, .psd, then you need to save it to the desktop and then import as a new file.
Back to #1, There are connectors that will let you run the Sony from your PB. One that will let you switch between your Mac and the darkside, I'm not so sure about.

Best disk set-up for editing HDV on iMac G5

Are any of the G5 iMac's external interfaces (FireWire 400/USB 2.0) really fast enough for editing and playback of HDV in FCE or am I always going to suffer jerky stop-start performance? Currently using a LaCie d2 Quadra 500GB drive connected via USB which supports 'up to 60MB/s' according to spec – is this set-up going to cut it? If not, what's optimum for this iMac?

The application knows where the media is. It knows what bus it's coming from. Are you getting dropped frames in playback? Do you get an error message when you play back HDV material? There are many factors that can cause dropped frames. The error message lists some of them.

In Pages 5.0.1 option to set password for editing document is gone when exporting as a pdf

In last version of Pages, I would make a proposal to a customer and then go to 'share' and then choose 'PDF' from the drop down. Next screen allowed me to choose the option of password protecting the document from being edited. This new version of Pages only seems to allow setting a password for opening the document. I do not need to password protect the document from being opened, just edited. Any help for this new problem? Apple always seems to remove features that are so helpful and useful when they 'upgrade' apps., very frustrating!

Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs.

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5, after Exporting your files to Pages '09, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

Allow User to set dpi for "Edit in Photoshop"

It is very frustrating to continually have to change image dpi to 300 in Photoshop from the 240 default in Lightroom. Please let user set a preference to their desired dpi workspace.

Effective Drive Set-up for Editing JVC ProHD?

I'm considering a Mac Pro(dual 2.8; 4 gig ram)and Final Cut to edit ProHD acquired with the JVC GYHD200. My question is this: will I get the required date through-put speeds using internal drives only? If so, which drives should I order: 7500 RPM or 15,000 RPM? Or am I better off going the external RAID route? You get the idea... Any and all thoughts are appreciated!

But you're not configuring it yourself; you're here trying to get others to configuring it for you for free.
The thing is, HDV cannot be monitored externally while you edit. If you want to do that, you have to use an all I-frame codec, or add an expensive 3rd party capture card or device. Then you need to make sure your media drives can handle the throughput required by your codec of choice.
DVCPRO HD is about 17 MB/sec. ProRes 422 is about 21 or 28 MB/sec. Uncompressed HD can be as much as 140 MB/sec. Then there's 4:4:4 RGB (dual link), which is in another galaxy far, far away.
Because hard drives, when they are near full, produce as little as half the throughput as when they're empty, you need to build your storage subsystem for twice the bandwidth you think you need, and account for more than one stream of video. For example, if you're using ProRes 422 HQ (28 MB/sec), 3 streams (a dissolve with a title over top) would require at least 84 MB/sec. Twice that would 168 MB/sec. I'd recommend allowing for some overhead, so you want an array that can do 200 MB/sec.
Same example with uncompressed would require an array capable of doing 840 MB/sec. That's why savvy system builders will spec for two streams of uncompressed 422, or 280 MB/sec. Twice that would be 560 MB/sec. Systems that can handle that are pricey and only a few vendors make systems that qualify.
Note that I consistently advocate over-building storage subsystems. Many will be satisfied to build for a little more than the minimum requirements. I overbuild because I provide 24/7 telephone support for my clients, and I do not want to open myself for a lot of 3am calls.

Have set Elements 12 as external editor for iPhoto =, but pictures identified for editing don't appear in Elements

Have just installed Elements 12 and nominated it as the external editor for iPhoto. When I identify a pic for edit in iPhoto and direct it to Elements it doesn't appear in Elements.
Help please

Usually that means you selected the logical file as your external editor instead of the correct one. The actual PSE editor is buried inside the Support Files folder:

Not sure why you would have Aperture there as it's not an editor.
To change, just select Aperture again, and this will give you the dialogue to change the choice.

Editing using iPhoto '08

I have iPhoto '08 version 7.1.5. I changed my preferences for editing from iPhoto to Photoshop Elements 6 and now I think that was a mistake. How do I re-set my preferences for editing photos to iPhoto and only using Elements 6 as a backup? Thanks

I get the same result when editing a file of 5.5 or similar size, it is only in raw format that I loose so much file size. I will shoot mostly in large jpeg size from now on, but I have a photo shoot already done in raw and I am trying to get it to my client.
Yes it does say RAW on the lower right corner of the screen, the file info is also at 13.5 mb.

It seems that the only two acceptable types of URI are those in the
portal project and those that point to a file in the filesystem. It
does not seem possible to forward on to a webapp in the same project, or
to an external URL outside of the application.
Is there a way to do this, or is this not possible?
The use case I am trying to implement is for all portlets to use a
generic edit page that is maximised. The page will be populated with
the available values for personalization for the portlet that the
request came from, and on submit, will return to the portlet and persist
changes.

Here's something you can try with a copy of your current library.
1 - go to iPhoto's Events preference pane and set the auto split option to 1 day per even.
2 - go the the Events mode, select all Events.
3 - go to the Events menu and and select Autosplit Selected Events.
which will give you an event for each day.
4 - again select all events (although it might be better do to fewer at a time) and export them to your desired destination via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with the following settings:
The workflow above will produce a folder for each days photos with the date as the folder's title.

How do I upload pictures from iphone 5c and iPhoto for editing in photoshop elements 12 please?

I used to be able to edit all my iphoto pictures in PSE10. I set the advanced section of preferences in iphoto to edit in PSE. Since installing Photoshop Elements 12, I cannot get the transfer into PSE of the photos (unedited and unreduced) to work.
The general preferences only give a camera the options of connecting to iphoto, aperture, image capture, or, no application. Assuming my phone is a camera for editing purposes, I would like to give it the option of connecting to PSE 12.
Also, I would like to import my photos from the iphone 5C into PSE12 for editing. There is an import action in PSE12 which does not seem to work with the imac and iphone.
In addition, my email application is greyed out in the general preferences; I use Microsoft Outlook for Mac.
How can I change the settings in 'general' and 'advanced' preferences to work for me, Please?

If you set PSE as external editor, be sure you pick the right file, which is not by any means the logical choice. You want this one:
You can also export the photos from iphoto, edit them and save them under new names and reimport the edited photos as new files. This is more trouble, but lets you save as many different versions of your image as you like (iphoto only remembers the last edited version + original).
