Setting QA client to Productive

We have a proposal to set the QA systems in our landscape to Productive, on a permanent basis, to enable tables like OB52 and OB08 to be modified. I am worried that doing that will open other tables as well, and create the possibility that people can go into the quality systems and make changes in config which they should not be making.
Would it be a good idea to leave the "productive" setting on in Quality systems?
(If we do, we would need to switch it off when doing assets loads and resets, etc.)
Is there a list somewhere that I can see which config tables/objects have the current settings indicator enabled.
Thanks in advance
Piet Strydom

Thanks for your response Sangram.
I have done some research on our side as well, and there are some other factors which I needed to take into account:
In production, access to tcodes are more restricted. So there are config objects where the current settings indicator has been switched on, but where the users do not have access to those settings to modify them.
However, in the quality systems, all "configurers" have access to SPRO, to be able to see what the current configuration settings in the system is. That is fine, because the client is blocked for config, so nobody can change anything. HOWEVER, as soon as you make the client productive, all current setting config objects become modifiable by all configurers.
So before we will set the clients to productive, we will need to review all objects to ensure that only the ones where we want to be allow configurers to modify (OB52, OB08) is available.

  • Risks when locking Prod in SCC4, but not setting Company Code to productive

    Hi,
I am trying to figure out the risks related to not setting Company Codes to productive... even though the Production system is locked in SCC4. Will the lock in SCC4 mitigate the risk of not setting Company Codes to productive?
To my understanding, setting Company Codes to non-productive in the Production system would result in a risk for deleting financial data. I therefore wonder if defining the lock in SCC4 would compensate for this risk.

    IT-auditor

I asked myself the same question.
The F1-help in SCC4 says the following:
"This field should be maintained by the customer for documentary purposes."
    But also:
"- Production clients and SAP reference clients are protected from the client copy tools, including "Copy by Transport Request" (transaction SCC1).
    - There is corresponding protection from the automatic Customizing Distribution and other tools.
    - In a production client, customizing settings that can be maintained as "current settings" are excluded from a client lock or transport connection; this means current settings (e.g. exchange rates, posting periods) can always be maintained in a productive client without recording changes. Other clients usually require a transport request."
So, i think that the client role option is more a documentation thing. But also disables some client copy and automatic transport functionality. In my opinion it should be "production" on a production system because if not there are several functions activated that shouldn´t be for security reasons.
That´s what i think. Maybe someone can correct me or give more information to this thread.

  • Is license required for Oracle 10g client on production

Is license required for Oracle 10g client on production?

Standard disclaimer: We don't represent Oracle. Your situation may be different because of specific wording in your particular Oracle contract, because of differences in licensing regimes over the years, because of laws in your particular country, etc. If you have a serious licensing question, you really need to address it to Oracle Sales. Explaining that some guy on the internet told you it was OK is going to be cold comfort if you're ever audited by Oracle and they disagree with my interpretation...
In general, no, you don't need a separate client license. The database is generally licensed to support a number of named users and/or all the users that a certain hardware configuration can support. Assuming the person using the Oracle client is connecting to a properly licensed database (and that they are one of the named users if that is the licensing regime), you shouldn't need a separate license.
There may be slightly different rules if we're talking about developers connecting to the database because of the "Oracle Programmer" set of licenses that appears on pricing sheets that I've never fully understood.

  • Transformation pointing to Quality Client in Production System Repeatedly

    Hi,
I need to understand one issue which is explained in detail below step by step.
    1. I created one Customized Data Source(Full Load) and replicated in BW.
    2. Also created Info Objects, DSO, Info Package, Transformation, DTP.
    3. While transporting this modelling to Production(first time), i unknowingly/mistakenly missed capturing the datasource in Transport Request.Sequence of transport was -
    Data Source
    Info Area
    Info Object Catalogue
    Info Object
    DSO
    Cube & MP
    Data Source
    Transformation
    Info Package & DTP
Now, the moment TR for transformation was transported it threw an error - "Data Source does not exist in Quality client". Then I transported the Data Source TR and after that re-transported the transformation TR production and this error was removed.
But, there were 2 transformations in production - 1) Pointing to Production, 2) Pointing to quality.
    4. I request the basis team to delete the second transformation(pointing to quality) from BW production system.
    5. After that we captured Data Source and transformation in same TR and transport was successful.
    6. Now, after few days we transported a change to production for same object and the system again threw the same error mentioned in point no.3 above and created two transformations again.
How to resolve this issue permanently and I also want to know the reason of this type of system behavior.

    Mohammed,
I did that also - please read my step no.4.
We are able to delete the transformation which was referring to quality client and then captured D.S & transformation in a single TR and transport as successful.
Now, after few days I did one change in the same transformation and transported to production.
    System Behavior:
Error - " No source exist (i.e.,system referred to quality in production)".
Also again transformation was visible in production which was referring to quality client(which we already deleted with the help of BASIS).
Now since again the transformation needs to be deleted from production, our basis team is telling us to they cannot delete objects every time in production. Thus,
    1. Is there any option to solve this issue permanently?
    2. Also is it necessary to transport data source along with the transformation which is directly linked to data source?
Please Note: We have Dev+Quality as one client and Production.

  • 2 Clients with Production Role in Production server , possible ?

My company has implemented 2 Systems SAP Landscape with one development and one production server. So far , we have one client in Production server been configured with Production role and one more is configured with customizing role.
If possible to configure the client with customizing role in production server to production role ? I tried but the syatem always tell me that a client with production role is already exist.
    Kindly advise .
    Thanks.
    Leon

    Hi, Rohit :
Once again . Thanks for your input .But , I really can't try what you are suggesting here as my production system is running 24 hours per day and I can't really take the risk by just trying open and close the existing client with production role .  Based on your 1st reply , you said that Production system is possible to have 2 clients with production role . If it is so , there should be settings that I could configure to achieve this rather than trying  to reconfigure the existing client with production role.
    Thanks.

  • Set default value for product type

I want to set default value in product type drop  down box
    in component PRD01QR.
    view  SearchHelp.
I tried with setter and getter , but not working
    they are using query string.

    Hi,
You can achieve this by redefining the method GET_VH_PRODUCT_TYPE() in IMPL class of searchHelp view. Just copy paste the implementation of this method from super class and now control the internal table as per your requirement like
comment out the line       APPEND INITIAL LINE TO lt_ddlb. (line no: 47)
as it will add an empty line at the starting of internal of product type values which you dont want. In you case there should be some default value for product type field, so arrange the inetrnal table values according to you requirement and what ever value you want to default for product type that should be the first value in the drop down without empty line and add an empty line at the end of the internal table.
No need to call super->GET_VH_PRODUCT_TYPE() in your implementation as you have written all the required code in your implemenation itself.
    Hope this would help you!
    Regards,
    Ajay

  • Setting Target Client in STMS- Import Queue

After restoring Db,we has some issues in Transport Routes so deleted and added the child system to Transport Domain Controller.
After adding the system, if we go to STMS->Import Overview-> QAS ( system queue name )-> here it asking to set the target client.
My issue is..when i click on " Set Target Client", it is ready to import all the transports...
Can i exclude importing all the transports and set the target client ?
    Thank you

    Hi NIA,
As mentioned by Sunny, you just have to add the NEW QAS system in the Domain.
Go to transport routes and then from "Configuration"-> "Adjust with Controller".
This will adjust the system with the Domain Controller.

  • Why we use different clients in production?

Why we use different clients in production?
    Regards,
    Subhasish

    Hi,
You usually will have only one client in production.
Its in either QA / DEV environments you will have multiple clients.
DEV - You have one for Config and once for custom development

  • What happens if I don't set a client id for durable subscribers?

What happens if I don't set a client id for durable subscribers?

If you do not set a clientID in 2.0, it will automatically set a clientID for
you. This means that you MUST unsubscribe the durable subscriber on the same
host (since otherwise the clientID's will be different)
In general, its good practice to set a client ID anytime you are using durables
(so that you have some control).

    Hi
I have created a set type and assigned to a product hierarchy.
Now I want to undo the assignment as this has been inherited by the lower level hierarchies.
Can anyone suggest how to remove this.
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi Dash,
Sorry to say that once you have assigned the set type to a product hierarchy you can not remove this.
