Setting Speakers(Logitech Z5500-Digital) To Multi-Channel 5.1 OpticalOut

Hello i Have an MBP and im using the optical out to connect my speakers(logitech Z5500-digital).
But when I open the Audio/MIDI Configuratio utility and try to configure my speakers, i can only set it to Stereo(default) and the Multichannel-> Stereo(from dropdown menu)
Can anyone tell me why i cant set it to the 5.1 option? My speakers support 5.1!
thanks!

first- i have the same speakers-
you do not have to mess with the MIDI-
also- what are you listening to? itunes is not 5.1- you must have a 5.1 dvd playing in your DVD app- and then in the preferences in DVD player you can set your setting to get 5.1- hope this helps

  • FAO Logitech Z5500 Users. Advice Need

    Hi,
I got an X-Fi Xtreme Music last December but my current speakers (Boston BA7500) have never worked fully with it (no sound from rear speakers). I have decided after months of contact with Creative Tech Support to just get a new set as everything I have tried so far has not worked.
I have decided to go for a new set of Logitech Z5500 speakers.
    My question to anyone that uses these speakers is as follows;
Will I be able to use these speakers out of the box using the X-Fi's Digital I/O port and get full use out of all the speakers? Has anyone encountered issues with this setup on their PC?
Any help is welcome as I do not wish to spend almost ?300 on a new set of speakers only to experience the same issues as I have been having with my current pair.
    Thanks in advance!

Digital connection won't get you 5. channel in games or in normal usage. You will only get 5. output when the source is actually a 5. encoded material such as Dolby Digital 5., DTS 5., etc... If the new speaker you're getting has 5. analog connection, I would suggest going with those instead of Digital.
There is a sticky thread at the top of the board that has information on Digital connection which you may be interested in.

  • Problem with Audigy 2ZS and Logitech z5500 speakers

Hi, all. I've had my Audigy 2ZS for a while, and I've been using Creative 4. speakers. I just got the logitech z5500 5. speakers, and I've been trying to get them to work properly with my soundcard, but it's giving me headaches.
The setup: I'm using the 3 direct inputs to go from the sound card to the speakers, so all the various digital issues I've read about *shouldn't* be issues for me.
The problem: When I do my a sound test using the Speaker Settings controller, my rear speakers are reversed, and one of them doesn't play at all! I've confirmed that all my speakers work, and I've used the diagnostic tools that come with the speakers to make sure that the speakers themselves are set up and working correctly.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm really frustrated...this seems like it's either a card or software issue, but I'm just not certain how to fix it.
    Thanks!

I had the same problem with two different X-Fi extreme music cards. I fixed it by running the speaker test for individual speakers and changin the speaker settings ad nauseum. 'tis an issue with the jack sensing on the drivers.
If you unplug all the connectors and plug them back in, you'll find that some other channel gets screwed up.

  • Setting Default Audio Channels on a multi-channel interface

Does anyone know how to set the default output channels for QT to anything other than the first 2 channels on a multi-channel interface (in my case a MOTU 828mkII)? I use the digital outputs on my interface, and this works fine wih every other app apart from QT (I select the motu in Audiomidi Setup, and then use the device driver to set the appropriate default output channels). I can do it in QT on a movie by movie basis using the Movie Properties pane, but this is irritating, and I want to set digital outputs as the default so QT sound files in a browser play back through the correct channels of the interface.
    Thanks if you can help,
    Rob

The mic is mono. It only records on one channel. Rather than double the sound you can center it. Edit into the timeline only the track of audio with the mic. Select the audio in the timeline and press Control-period to center pan the sound.

  • Multi-channel audio? How ? (Dolby Digital, PCM etc.)

    So,
Take 2 now support 5.1 channels audio out, at least for some HD rentals.
I am wondering if anyone has gotten that to work.
I have Apple TV connected via HDMI to my receiver (which can decode both the bitstream as well as linear PCM for multi-channel tracks).
However, I don't seem to get any multichannel, and the Dolby Digital toggle in Apple tunes makes no difference.
Has anyone gotten 5.1 to work, and if so, which which movie/tv show/trailer?
    Thanks,
    Dan

    1. Not a great fan of detaching audio except in multicam clips. Generally I'd suggest using the expand audio components function to access the channels.
    2. Yes. Switch off the auto tracks in the browser and only turn them back on for the clips you need in the project. With expanded audio components, if you turn the channels back on they will reappear in the timeline.
    3. You use roles for this. I know time is tight for news, but taking a few moments to assign roles to the clips in the borwser, which you can do in globally, will allow you to export with separate tracks.

  • Why can I not set dpi in a multi channel file?

I was sent a file that was saved in "multi channel and cannot do the settings I need to do for output. cannot add registration marks, cannot resave as a lower version file and cannot set the dpi I need for screenprinting. I have only been doing this for 20 years and of course this is the first ti,me I have had this problem and the customer is out of town and needs the job at the end of the week.

Open the multi-channel file and Select All>Copy>New, which will let you make a new grayscale image to the same pixel dimensions:
Then you can simply drag and drop the spot channels to the new file. Here my multi-channel spot plates are set as Pantone 7495, 212, and 279:
I can then save the grayscale as a PSD (DCS is no longer needed), place it in InDesign (InDesign does not support a multi-channel color space so it has to be GS, RGB, CMYK, plus spot channels), and either print separations with crops at a chosen line screen, or export the spot separations to PDF.
If you want to skip the InDesign step you can save the grayscale plus spots directly to PDF (PDF/X-4) from Photoshop:

  • X-Fi: cannot get multi-channel sound or SPDIF passthrough

I've owned an X-Fi XtremeMusic since it first came out, and have been running it with a MCE2005 system. I've had it hooked up to a home theater receiver via SPDIF and 5. analog, but have only had stereo speakers until today. So, right now I'm trying to get multi-channel sound to work. I'm using the latest drivers (have also tried the original drivers) and have all Microsoft patches applied.
First, I cannot seem to get it out of stereo mode. Using the analog outputs to the 5. analog input on my receiver and setting the X-Fi to 5. speakers refuses to produce sound from anything except front left/right. I've used the Speaker Connection Wizard, the THX Console, the Speaker & Headphone console... and no matter what speaker icon I click on the sound comes out of the front left or right as if it is downmixing. I've also tried 4.0, 6. and 7. modes - no improvement. Also, multi-channel sound does not work in MCE setup, games, etc.
Quite by accident I discovered that if I enable CMSS I can get *some* sort of sound from the rear speakers, but only in the sense of an effect. Also, with CMSS enabled, when testing the front center I get the word "front" out of the left/right speakers which then fades out before "center". If I test it again I get nothing (except a slight effect from the rear).
Finally, I cannot get the SPDIF passthrough to work (it DOES work just fine passing out stereo 48khz sound). I've enabled SPDIF on the flexi-jack, I've set Dolby Digital and DTS to "external decoder required", and NONE of my applications present me with an option to use the SPDIF. This includes MCE, VLC and the latest version of CyberLink PowerDVD. Basically it seems that they can't see that there is a SPDIF on the system to use.
Anyone else experienced this? I've spent 5 hours testing everything I can think of and trying different combinations of settings and I am completely at a loss!

Well, I guess I'll answer my own problem in the hopes that it might help someone else.
It seems that hour 8 of frustrated troubleshooting turned up the cure: all of this boils down to Logitech's stupid Quickcam Fusion drivers. With Logitech's "AEC" echo cancellation mode enabled for the built-in microphone, their drivers automatically turn audio acceleration down to second from the bottom. This results in the X-Fi performing nearly no hardware processing (later testing with DXDiag also said I had no hardware buffer). This results in no multi-channel audio, and no SPDIF passthrough.
There are a couple of solutions...
) Disable "AEC" mode from the Logitech Quickcam control panel applet's Audio tab (and reboot). This worked for me.
    2) If this doesn't work, go into the Device Manager and disable the Quickcam's microphone (and reboot). This worked for me, but then I tried # which also worked and still let me use the microphone.
    3) Logitech's site (which mentions this problem/solution but only in the context of it causing BSOD crashes, not with it messing up multi-channel sound cards) mentions renaming one of their Audio directories to disable the microphone, although I don't see why this would be better than #2 (see http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/...p?p_faqid=4066 for more).
    4) Unplug the camera.
So, I'm back in business - or rather, I'm only NOW in business!
Interesting that the Creative diagnostics utility turned up anything amiss. It claimed that everything was hunky dory, when the card was obviously in a mode where it could not possibly work correctly.

  • Multi Channel Input on Recei

    http://img202.imageshack.us/img202/586/5pchinputlarge9cj.jpg[/img] width="300" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us" >
Ok I know that for the front and rear I would use a 3.5mm stereo to RCA but for the center/sub channel what should I use? Should it be a 3.5mm mono to RCA or something different or can it be a regular stereo red and white one?
Btw how much does this degrade the quality of the sound? I hoping that this method with the multi channel inputs and nice home theater speakers sounds better than a PC speaker system like the 5500.

My setup is similar to yours.
    - I have the 5. channel analog outputs of my X-Fi goes to the 5. multi-channel inputs of my preamp-processor. This setup alllow me not only to play my ripped music in 5. also allows me to play DVD-audio disc. You can also play DTS/DD encoded movies as well as long as you set the DD/DTS decoding option to off (internal decoding) in the creative console mixer.
Advantage: Can use the X-Fi CMSS-3D to get 5./7/ expansion
2- I also have the SPDIF output of the X-Fi goes to one digital coax input of my preamp-processor. This setup gives me the same processing as the above except the playback of DVD-audio disc.
Disadvantage: SPDIF will ouput only in stereo, you will need to use the receiver processing modes(Dolby prologic I/II, Neo6, Stereo 5/7) to get 5./7. expansion
For me connection 2 is the better choice for playback mode except DVD-audio, the reason is my preamp processor is a $4K unit with the highest (Audiophile) quality DACs, plus I have the flexibility of setting the bass-management of this unit independently. Plus, I have a multitude of processing modes on this unit such as : DPL-IIx, Neo-6, 5./7. Music etc... to expand a 2 channels signal into 5./7.
I can see you have a digital coax input on your receiver, just buy a mono 3.5mm to coaxial convertor. Connect the 3.5mm SPDIF end to the X-FI SPDIF flexi-jack, and the Coax digital end to your receiver Digital coax in. With this connection you need to set DD/DTS decoding on the X-Fi to ON (External decoder).

  • HELP!! Audigy 2 ZS + Logitech Z5500 speak

Hi, i have the Audigy 2 ZS and Logitech Z5500 speaker (with decoder), i plug the speaker wires and 3 plugs correctly with the sound card, i install the Audigy 2 ZS software and driver by default, and i have set the speaker setting to 5. on the sound card, when i test the speakers from the sound card, the "channel" buttom, i can only hear "front left" and "front right", no sound coming from center and rears and sub. i have set the speaker to 5. on the speaker control pad, and from the speaker control pad had set to "direct", not optical or coax, i think everything is setup correctly. i also tried to disable the decoder from Audigy 2 ZS, but no change, when i press "channel", only can hear "front left" and "front right". Please help me......... thanks alot.

<SPAN>i am 00% sure everything is connected correctly. When I use the Creative SB audigy 2 ZS software to test the speakers, on the "channel" buttom, i only hear sound coming from ?front left? and ?front right?, the rears and sub have no sound, I have set to ?6 channel? on the speaker control pad, and have set to 5. on Audigy 2 ZS, I had tried to disable the decoder from the sound card, but the problem still exist.<SPAN> When I set the speaker control pad to ?direct? effect on ?6 channel?, and test with the Audigy, I can hear ?front rightcenter?..all working, but when I listen to MP3 and CD, there are no sound come from the center speaker (on windows xp pro), But when I listen to MP3 and CD on Windows 98 (I have 2 systems installed on my computer), sound come from all speakers.<SPAN> Therefore, I believe that the sound card has problem running on Windows XP pro.

  • No multi-channel audio from DVD Player or Quicktime?

I have the A52Codec 1.7.6 installed. The codec preferences are set to output multi-channel audio. I have my Audio MIDI setup speaker configuration setup for multi-channel audio and the speaker assignment tests are all perfect. VLC plays back files with AC-3 soundtracks in perfect 5.1 multi-channel sound. Final Cut plays multi-channel audio properly as well.
When I watch a DVD, it is decoded to stereo. The dialog on 5.1 always comes from the left and right speakers and never from the center channel. It doesn't matter whether I remove the A52Codec and try again the result is aways the same, 5.1 audio in Quicktime and DVD Payer gets decoded to stereo. It is not that extra channels are missing, if that were true I'd get no dialog at all.
What do I have to do to make the DVD and Quicktime multi-channel audio decode as multi-channel audio and not stereo.

I'm not sure if this will resolve your issue or not, but have you configured it using /Utilities/Audi MIDI Setup ?

  • Multi Channel Audio Instrument [Kontakt 2]: Auxes not working?

    Hi,
I've searched the forums and come up with several posts about using multi-channel audio instruments, but none seems to exactly address the issue I'm seeing (and being confused by). I'm trying to set up Native Instruments' Kontact 2 sampler in multi-channel mode in Logic Pro 7. I perform the following steps:
    1. On an available audio instrument object, I click the input drop-down, select Multi Channel -> AU Instruments -> Native Instruments -> Kontakt 2.
    2. When Kontakt 2 opens, I load, say, three different instruments.
    3. In Kontakt 2's Outpus area, I create three outputs, labelled "st. 1", "st. 2", "st. 3". I cable these to "Plugin Output 1" and "Plugin Output 2" for st.1, "Plugin Output 3" and "Plugin Output 4" for st.2, "Plugin Output 5" and "Plugin Output 6" for st.3.
    4. In Kontakt 2, I assign the output of instrument 1 to st. 1, the output of instrument 2 to st. 2 and the output of instrument 3 to st. 3.
    5. Back in Logic Pro, I create two new (stereo) audio objects and assign them to channels Aux 1 and Aux 2 (and name them accordingly).
    6. In my Aux1 object, I select its input drop-down and choose Instrument1 -> Kontakt2 3 & 4.
    7. In my Aux2 object, I select its input drop-down and choose Instrument1 -> Kontakt2 5 & 6.
Okay, so basically I'm set up now, right? So to test this out, I set the MIDI receive channel of all of my instruments in Kontakt 2 to omni and click on the built-in keyboard in Kontakt 2. I can see the volume level indicators on all three instruments light up. I can also hear all three instruments coming out of my speakers. However, when I look at the environment page where I've created these objects, I find that they're all coming as a stereo sum from the original audio instrument object. The Aux1 and Aux2 objects are just sitting there doing nothing.
    What gives?
    Dual 1GHz PowerMac G4 (Quicksilver)   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   MOTU 828

Okay, I found the solution to this, and it's odd enough that I figured that I'd post it just in case anyone else ran into it.
It turns out that the multi-channel thing does not work at all when you play Kontakt 2 from the built-in keyboard (in K2). Visually, K2 still shows all the audio going out on the corresponding channels, etc., but I guess it's summing it and outputting in stereo only when you do that. If you send it data from Logic, it works just fine. So I had this setup correctly all along.

You can play a sound in a surround-system. However, Java Sound API has some restrictions.
1, It does not play multi-channel format.
2, It does not support speaker channel assignment. That means you can not choose a certain speaker channel to play.
So overall, it can play a sound format which is either one or two channels in a multi-channel system.

  • Gigawork s700 vs logitech z5500 vs klipsch ultra 5.1

i wanna buy a set of 5.1 speakers, the purpose is to use it on pc and DVD player.
i want GOOD SOUND QUALITY, LOUD and Earthquake BASS.
Which brand and model is better?
Gigawork s700? Logitech z5500? Klipsch ultra 5.1 or any other suggestion?
    Thanks alot.

Definitely go with the klipsch 5.1 ultras. It has by far the best bass out of the 3.1 The logitech may appear to have more bass but it will sound boomy and not as tight and refined as the ultra sub. The gigaworks sub doesn't compare as it's only one 8" instead of 2 and doesn't go as low as the ultras. The 5.1 ultras are just all around the best multimedia speaker set right out right now. The support with klipsch is also amazing and I've been helped by them myself in the past when my original klipsch 5.1's died and they upgraded them to the ultras for free AND paid for shipping all in a timely fashion. That's amazing service and logitechs and creative's service just do not compare. A set of gigaworks I tried a couple of weeks ago didn't even work out of the box. No sound from them at all. $100 down the drain for just trying out those speakers from newegg with shipping and restocking fee. I Bought another set of ultras and couldn't be happier.

  • Logitech z5500 and creative soundblaster l

Hi All?I have had the creative soundblaster li've for sometime and jsut decided to buy a set of 5. thx speakers. After alot of reading i decided to go for the logitech z5500 as they apealed to me the most. But i have one problem I am using the triple audio stereo cable to connect the speakers to my soundcard, when i perform a test through the creative software it only detects the left and right speakers. Is there something im doing wrong here cause it would be nice when performing a test that all speakers are detected. But the sound seems to be there and sounds good?Hope someone can help!!

Yeah, cant anyone answer this. I have the exact same problem here(except I am using Audigy 2 ZS). I reinstalled the drivers and software 3 times, still, same. As a matter of fact, ever since I updated the drivers, the sound quality has gone down.....How is it that Winamp would be able to send sound to all my speakers yet, the utility for the card wouldn't ? Makes no sense at all !! Anyone wants to try to make sense of this.
Thank you.Message Edited by phild on -23-200604:7 PM

I own a creative audigy 2 nx sound card and looking for the best speaker system compatible with it
After reading the reviews at varoius sites i concluded that the best speaker systems available in INDIA are creative gigaworks s750(35000 RS. INR) and logitech z5500(25000 RS. INR),money is not a consideration all i wanna know which of these speakers is better for watching DVD movies. I am really in a delimma here as logitech z5500 has an inbuilt dolby digital and dts decoder.
can anyone suggest me what to buy PLEAZzzzzzzzzzzz.

The gigaworks sound a lot better or so they say. I've never heard either of these speakers, but in terms of sound quality everyone agrees the gigas are the best PC speakers money can buy.
There are some build quality issues with the gigas though. If you look on this very forum, you'll find that many people have had 3-4 defective units in a row and others have had the system fail a few days after the warranty ran out. What percentage of the total user base this is, is unknown, but the gigas are quite popular amongst discerning pc users.
