Setting stop time of a song in iTunes

I have done this many times before in iTunes but for some reason it is no longer working. I go to "get info", choose the "options" tab, put a check in the "Stop time" box and then put the time in that I want. As soon as I make any move to exit back into iTunes main screens the "Stop Time" number goes back to what was originally there. Anybody have any ideas??

Sounds like you do not have full permissions to change the file.
Select the \Music\iTunes\ folder and see this -> http://paulstamatiou.com/how-to-quickie-vista-permissions

  • Why can't I set a stop time for a song in itunes?

I would like to shorten a song that I purchased on itunes.  When I set the stop time in options it continues to play to the end of the song and will not accept the shortened time I have set.  Why can I not shorten the stop time on a song?

I had a similar problem, with strange times appearing in the stop time field after I entered it.
I eventually realised that the song must not be playing, or even selected for playing, when you attempt the stop time edit. This is counter-intuitive; both of us wanted to edit the stop time for a song we were playing.
What worked for me was to first select another song and start it playing. Then select the song whose stop time you want to edit, and make the edit.
I hope that solves your problem.
However, a warning: Start and stop times do not seem to propagate to the home shared library, e.g., accessed by an iPad, or Apple TV; they only work when playing music directly from iTunes.

  • ITunes won't let me edit stop time on a particular song, will let me edit stop time on other songs

Recently I was given a bunch of digital music on hard drive.  One of the songs on the hard drive has a time of around 8 minutes and a file size of around 11 mb.  The song plays perfectly fine if I preview it off of the hard drive.  When the song is imported into iTunes the time drops to 8 seconds but the file remains the same size as before.  I've tried to edit the stop time of the song to reflect what it should be but will not apply the changes that I've made.  I've been able to edit the stop/start times of other songs from the same import.  Any ideas as to how to deal with this?

I didn't have precisely this issue, but one similar.  What fixed it (and I don't know why I tried it) was to have iTunes convert the song (from m4a to mp3 in my case), and iTunes corrected the time.
    Good luck

  • How do I change the start/stop time for multiple songs not just one song at a time?

How do I chnage the start/stop time for multiple songs not just one song at a time?

I don't think you can in iTunes.
Multiple editing in Get Info does not offer an option to change start/stop times.

    As Gatorgrad said:
"by right clicking on the song and selecting "Get Info."  Then paste the photo into the album art tab."

  • AirTunes stops streaming after each song but iTunes shows it playing

I've read through a lot of posts and either people are having the same issue just describing them differently or I'm seeing an entirely different issue.
My setup is Windows Vista running iTunes 8, Airport Express and an iPod Touch running the Remote app. I just bought it all yesterday and did all the firmware and software updates it asked me to when setting it all up.
I had it setup wirelessly and working -- the remote controlled iTunes which send audio to my AE and it worked beautifully. Then I realized the music stopped, I went to check and iTunes still showed the music playing, but no sound was coming out of the remote speakers. If I change the speaker output to computer then back to the remote speakers it starts playing again.
I've disabled wireless on the AE and put a long wire across to rule out wirless interference or problems. I've disabled the Windows Vista firewall as well.
I've tested both from the remote and from using iTunes directly. So I've ruled out the Remote App from the equation (I think). I say that, because first thing this morning I ran using just iTunes and it worked for 15 straight songs. I used the remote to change albums and start another and after the first song played it went silent. I noticed in iTunes a playlist called "Remote" comes up so I was thinking the Remote was causing it. I switched over to my library local on iTunes again removing the remote and it keeps happening anyway. So I'm not sure if by using the remote I put it in this "state" or if it's really not the Remotes problem.
OK, so once it happens, it stops streaming after very single song however iTunes still shows it's playing fine. To fix, turn the speaker off then on again or switch to computer then back to remote again. It works doing this via the Remote App or on iTunes directly.
This is FRUSTRATING! I spent a lot of money on the iPod, AE and getting a cheap stereo receiver/amp to feed my in-house speakers and now it's pretty much not even useful.
    Suggestions? Help? Anything?

I wanted to post a follow-up. I solved my own issue after starting to rule out every possible cause.
I have a Western Digital networked hard drive (NAS) which houses all of my MP3's. I knew accessing this drive was pretty slow but I've had my MP3's on it and iTunes' library is all coming off this drive. It has worked fine on my computer for years. However, it appears that the lag doesn't play nice with AirTunes.
I moved my entire iTunes library (about 80 GB) to my local machine's hard drive, rebuilt my library and now it plays flawlessly!
Just so people know, I've updated firmware on the AirportExpress and the iPod Touch, I have the new version of Remote on the touch and am running iTunes 8 on Windows Vista with its library on the local harddrive. No glitches, pauses, or problems. I ran it for 6 hours during a party over the weekend without flaw.

  • STOP continuous play of songs in itunes Iphone4

    Talk about irritating! ha!
I DO NOT want continuous play of songs in Itunes ON MY IPHONE 4.  How can I stop this?
I tried unchecking ALL of my songs (entire library) in Itunes on my PC.....and that works for NOT having continuous play on the PC......and then I re-synced my Iphone....after deleting all music from the Iphone............ but the songs still play continuously.    I do not mean the library of songs is looped.   I know how to use the "repeat" functions.
I just want Itunes to stop playing music after ONE song.   I am using Iphone to perform music and need to talk in between songs.
    HELP!
    Thanks in advance

I suspect it is a feature very few people want. However, if it's important to you, you should let Apple know:

  • Anyway to set the time signature mid song?

I'm making a song in garageband and i need to change the time signature for one bar from 4/4 to 2/4 and then back again, is there anyway to do this?
    Your help is appreciated.

Sorry, GB only allows for one time sig per song. As long as you don't need the notation, you can probably live with it that your bars now are shifted two quarters - until you insert the next 2/4.

  • Every time I purchase songs from iTunes I lose my playlist

When I purchase songs from iTunes I get the new songs but all my previous songs disappear. This is getting frustrating and makes me not buy songs.

Who have you tried to contact (these are user-to-user forums) ? You should be able to copy iTunes purchases from your iPad to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. The 'cannot be copied' error implies to me that the 'pointer' to the song is on your computer's iTunes but the actual music file doesn't exist anymore - can you play that track on your computer ? If not then do you have a copy of it in anywhere ? If it's an iTunes purchase and it's on your iPad then you should be able to delete the 'pointer' from your computer's iTunes and File > Transfer Purchases should copy it back ; if it's a non-iTunes purchase that's on your iPad then you will need to find a third-party computer program that can copy it back.

  • HT5191 Lost my ability to burn discs, unable to update to latest version, getting "beep" noise every time i select songs in itunes

Unable to burn discs, will not download lastest version of itunes, beep noise when selecting songs in my itues library

    Some things that might help:
Restore one or all the devices as "new" and start from scratch.
Use playlists to control what syncs to the devices.
Create a "new" library in a different directory and see if that resolves the ongoing issue.

  • Okay, so my computer was having some problems.  I recently did a restore (the one where you set back time to an earlier date) itunes didnt work after that... i tried uninstalling it but that didnt work.  I then downloaded a third party app to...

completely remove itunes...  i re downloaded after that and itunes is up and running (currently listening to music)  however i now have no way to sync my iphone to the pc...  i first tried using wifi sync, but the phone said the "pc was unavailble" and the sync button was greyed out.  i then plugged the iphone directly into the computer via a apple usb 30 pin connector.  Nothing.  The computer recognizes the iphone in "my computer" and i can access my photos that way.  but itunes doesnt recognize it at all.  there is currently no way for me to sync my iphone.  I have already "reset" my iphone... (holding down home button and lock button until it shuts off... and still until it shows a apple icon and then releasing after the apple icon goes away).  i then turn it back on and plug it into the computer.  itunes still doesnt find it.  what do i do?  i really dont want to unistall it again.. its a huge hassle and take forever.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Start and stop time differ from iPod to computer

I joined 2 .mp3 together using a music edtion program (the first song was 4:30 and the second one 3:40) making one long sound file. The stop time for the song in iTunes is set at 8:10.
When I play the song on my iPod, it comes to a complete halt at 4:30 and my iPod turns dead, then moves on to another song after a few minutes (without playing anything in the meantime.)
The same song played from iTunes on my computer doesn't do that, it plays till the end (8:10).
    Can anyone explain this?
Do I need to edit the .mp3 files in a text editor, find the code (stop time reference) that causes the bug and resave it (what should I look for if that's the case?)
    Thanks

  • If I have manually set "Start Time" and "Stop Time" for songs, and my hard drive is backed up in Time Machine, when files/songs are transferred on new hard drive, will my "Start Time" "Stop Time" options be there?

My Macbook Pro will be going in for reimaging and my hard drive will be wiped, I want to know if all my iTunes preferences will be copied if I have backed them up on Time Machine. Specifically, if I have set certain "Start Time" and "Stop Time" for my songs, and I copy my iTunes library, will these "Start Time" and "Stop Time" options remain or will I have to manually set them one by one once again? I need a reply ASAP! Thanks so much!

As far as I'm aware the start & stop times are stored in the library database, not the media files. If you backup/restore/transfer the whole library then the settings are included. If you create a complete copy of your iTunes folder on another drive you can connect to that copy by holding down option/alt as you start iTunes so you can check that everything is working properly before you send the Macbook away.

  • Can't change stop time on song

    Hi all.
I have a song recently purchased on iTunes that won't let me change the stop time. The actual play time for the song is 3:21, but it stops and goes to the next song, in iTunes, after 3:08. I am not having any problems with the stop time with the same song on my iPhone 4. I know how to chage the stop time of a song; I've done it many times before. But when I go to the options tab on the song, select the stop time check box, and change the time, then click OK, it beeps at me and the stop time goes back to 3:08.
    Please help!

Can you confirm that you're -
    1 - selecting, then right-clicking a track
2 - selecting Get Info in the context menu and then going to the Options tab
3 - then using the mouse arrow to position the cursor in the Stop Time field
4 - and then changing the entry in that field.
If so, at what point does the problem occur?

  • Reset song start and stop times

Resetting start and stop times for all songs.
Hi. I recently trialled a DJ BPM matching software product and unknown to me, it scanned all my songs and in the majority of cases, put new start and stop times (in seconds) so now when I play my songs in iTunes, they either start to play early and/or stop playing before they are complete.
I can go and reset these parameters manually but I have 5000 songs so wondered if there was a utility or a file I could edit that would do this for me as its really annoying that the DJ software didnt reset these when I uninstalled it at the end of the trial period.
    Thanks
    Jason

You might be able to use this script to reset the start/stop times to zero.  Try with a small selection and see if it works for you.
