Setting the resolution for external monitor

Hello all,
I just purchased a ViewSonic vx2025wm 20.1" external monitor for my PowerBook G4 1.5Ghz 12". I've scoured the discussions regarding my question, but couldn't seem to find it. So I'll post it here...
I've successly connected the ViewSonic to my PB and the image seems to display fine in "spanning" mode (ie images span over two screens). However, when I try to "mirror" (ie have the same view show on both screens) the external monitor displays a 1024x768 resolution (the PB displays this as well, but that is the optimal resolution for the 12"). My question is this: how can I mirror while having each screen display its optimal resolution (the optimal resolutions would be 1680x1050 for the External monitor, and 1024x768 for the PB).
Thanks in advance for any wisdom on this!
PowerBook G4 1.5 Ghz 12 inch   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   1.25 Gig RAM

Thanks for the quick response -- and one follow-up question. Will turning mirror off (which, if I understand correctly, will place the displays in spanning mode) cause a strain on my PB? Since the PB will be supporting the displays of both the external monitor plus its own display. Does that make sense? I actually read something related to this in these discussions which is why I brought it up. I will try to locate that discussion and place a link in this thread so I can better explain.

  • What is the max resolution for external monitors from the intel hd 4000 graphics driver

What is the max resolution supported by the intel hd 4000 graphics driver found on the 13in MacBook Pro for EXTERNAL monitors?

OK so after doing much research... this seems to be the best workflow.
Bring HDV in to FCP as ProRes 422.
Edit show... add bells and whistles, etc.
    Export movie as ProRes 422.
Then for the client - ensure that they have latest version of Quicktime and download the Apple ProRes Quicktime Decoder (for mac or Windows). (It is assumed they have a decent computer to play back on.)
The client will then be able to play a movie encoded as proRes 422 and all will be happy.
As a back up a high resolution h264 file can't hurt.
Thanks for everyones input. We got there in the end.

  • Tecra S2 - resolution for external monitor on NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600

    Hello! I'm new here ...
I have a Tecra S2 with Windows XP SP2 and graphic card NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600. Internal resolution (display of notebook) is 1024 x 768. Its work fine. But I work with an external monitor VGA with "DualView" function. It is a Samsung Syncmaster 940N.
It??s all OK (19", resolution 1280 x 1024), with my new monitor Samsng Syncmaster 203B don't work: The external monitor's native resolution is 1400x1050 but the maximal resolution available is 1280 x 1024. And so, using 1280x1024 resolution, will cause the image on the external monitor and text is not clear.
I cannot set the 1400 x 1050 resolution via Control Panel nor via NVIDIA -menu.
Graphic card drivers are updated to the last version on the Toshiba site. Graphic card NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 is supported from my monitor Syncmaster 203B.
Max. resolution for external video of NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 is higher as 1400 x 1050.
I need to use this new monitor, can you help me?
    Many thanks in advance!

Unfortunately the Tecra S2 isn't capable to display the resolution 1400x1050.
Here are the resolutions you can use.

  • T400s max resolution for external monitor ?

    Hello
What is the max resolution for an external monitor connected to a thinkpad t400s  ? The reason i am asking is that:
    a) Intel says:  the max resolution of Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD is 2048x1536
    b) Lenovo says:  DisplayPort + D-sub dual-display output support 2560×1600 maximum resolution
What are your experiences and what maximum resolutions on external monitors have you succesfuly tried in real life ?
Would it be possible to connect a 30" monitor at 2560x1600  to a thinkpad t400s ?

i don't know and i never tried but i'm inclined to trust intel more than lenovo on this...unless the t400s has some beefed-up x4500mhd

  • Macbook doesn't have the right resolution for external monitor.

I have a Macbook Pro runing OS X 10.7.5 and have a HP w1907 LCD monitor. When I have the Macbook open, I can get the proper resoulution of 1440x900 on the LCD while the monitors are Mirrored. But when the macbook is closed, the options for the LCd monitor are replaced by VGA display. The VGA Display options do not have the 1440x900 resolution option.
What do I have to do to get my monitor's native resolution back while keeping the macbook closed.

Aha - got luck: In Preferences/DIsplays click in the window and press 'Option' - the 'Gather Windows' button changes to 'Detect Displays' and when clicked, discoverd the correct resolution.
    That does it.

  • Maximum resolution for external monitor on a B570e

    hi,
    i've just bought a Lenovo B570e in which i've plugged a Philips 221 V. That has a nominal resolution of 1920 x 1080.
However, when I try and setup its resolution, whether it's through the native windows graphic manager or the intel graphic manager, to 1920 x 1080, nothing is displayed. I need to lower the resolution down to 1680 x 1050 in order for the lenovo to display anything on the external monitor.
am i missing something, or is 1680 x 1050 the maximum resolution for dual display?
    thank you
    J.

    thanks for the help.

  • Top screen resolution for external monitor

I have a bit of a dumb question.  I have a Lenovo T410i, with integrated graphics.  Is the top resolution it can drive an external monitor at 1440 x 900?
And does that mean there is no point in getting a monitor bigger than 19inches?
    Many thanks,
    Joe
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

well that really depends on what uses you have in mind. What are you going to use your external monitor for?
Personally, when i use laptop as a desktop replacement, i would usually use 2 external LCDs, usually at least 19 inch in size. Most likely i would be using a 24 inch and a 20 to 22 inch.
Currently, the 22 inch and 23 inch format have the best pricing, and most people whom purchase these monitors would take that into consideration.
The intel GPU is fine for driving these LCDs, i use my T400 to drive a 24 inch and a 22 inch.

  • How to enable widescreen resolution for external monitor on Equium A60?

    Hi
I have got a Equium A60 with a ATI Radion Mobility 7000 grahpics chip in it. A short while ago the LCD died and decided to use a external monitor instead of replacing it. However, the external monitor is a 22" widescreen monitor which the computer does not provide a suitable display resolution for. Is there any way of updating the graphics card driver to provide widescreen formats. I have looked on the toshiba updates but there is nothing any newer on there and ATI are unwilling to offere support on a laptop.
    Any ideas ?

    Hi
You cannot choose your favorite resolution because the graphic driver does not support it.
Possibly the 3rd party driver would support your favorite display resolution but to be honest I would not use such drivers because it could cause some serious notebook troubles.
The point is that such 3rd party drivers are not tested and not certified by Toshiba.
Therefore the usage is only at your own risk.
    bye

  • Equium A100-306: Cannot set 1440x900 resolution on external monitor

Has anyone else come accross this problem? I've searched the web with no success and there doesn't seem to be any programs that will force the graphics into this resolution. Only appears to be linux based systems that have a complex solution for this. I have a new A100-306.
The maximum output I get is 1280x1024 which is ok but just lacks that final crispness.
I believe the solution will be an update to the video bios but this is a manufacturer update and not an intel one? As the machine is that new there doesn't appear to be any updates as yet. If anyone has a solution please post, otherwise Toshiba please hurry with an updated driver.
    thanks

    Hi
I have read several positing here in the forum about the different screen resolutions which are not available for the external screen.
Fact is that if any screen resolution is not available so the graphic driver doesnt contain this display resolution in the list. In such case you have to use the common screen resolution which is available. But this is not a problem.
Furthermore every display support a own resolution. I mean that the display work with one resolution which is the best for this display. Then the display and the picture is very clear and as you said crispness.
On my display I can choose several display resolutions but the best resolution for my display 1280x800.

I??ve got a U400 which was equipped with the Intel graphic card and I??ve got an external LCD which I have connected to the U400 using the DVI-to-HDMI cable.
My U400 unit supports the HDMI and the LCD the DVI port.
I have received also the driver disk with my LCD and I have installed the software.
I have also update the Intel driver and used one from the Intel page.
Now I have the access to many different external resolutions and can choose it.

  • Force resolution for external monitor

I have a NEC MultiSync LCD 2690WUXi which supports a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. I have it connected to my MBP i7 (early 2010) via DVI -> Mini-DV. However, the monitor preference pane only shows a max. resolution of 720p or 1024 x 576 pixels:
The help says that I can hold down the Alt-Key while clicking on "Skaliert" (it's in German, I don't know the translation, maybe "custom" or "scaled"; the radio button below "optimized for monitor").
But doing this has absolutely no effect. This means, I can't run the display in a reasonable resolution!
Is there a way to force ML to use a specific resoultion? Maybe a third party software?
    Any help appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Timo

Wow! 12 hours ago and dropped to page #14. Seems to be a lot of traffic here...
Anyone has a tip for a possibility to force resolution settings in ML?
    Thanks!

  • No 1680x1050 Resolution for External Monitor?

Hello, forum friends! So after getting a very nice 22"-ish Envision Monitor connected via VGA to my 2011 Macbook Pro, it appears that there is no option for the monitor's recommended resolution, which is 1680x1050! The highest level resolution is 1600x1200, which makes everything look a little stretched out. Does anyone know how to adjust this manually, or has anyone else had this problem? I've heard that this is a new problem from the recent display update.
    Thanks for your help!
    - Catboy. Meow!

Hmm, I've appeared to solve my own problem! I simply used the application SwitchResX. It worked very well.
Hope this helps someone else, then!

  • Set exported resolution for each image within InDesign

I'm generating a document in InDesign destined only for the screen (as a PDF) and I'm wondering whether in CS6 the user can set the exported resolution separately for each image. i.e click on a image and set the resolution for that image. Reason: to allow end-viewers to zoom in on certain images and retain quality.
And while I'm on the subject of changing resolution, a few years ago someone wrote a script for me (in response to a post), that when you clicked on an image within InDesign, resampled the original to 300 dpi, saved it, and made the necessary adjustments in InDesign so the image stayed the same size.
Can CS6 do that? Or do I need to dig up the old script?
