Setting the top picture for a photo album

My conversion to the new iWeb has gone smoothly so far. I'm doing some re-ordering of my site to use the new My Albums pages. The thing is, when I drag one of my old Photo pages under the My Albums page, it always shows the first photo. How do I change this? While I can skim through the contents of the Photo Page like I can skim events in iPhoto, it doesn't set the preview photo like you do in iPhoto. Am I missing something?
This is probably dirt simple, but I just can't see it right now.

I can't figure out how to do this either. It is not mentioned in the iWeb Help. I've seen a few forum discussions on this and have not seen anyone yet who has figured this out. If this ability is in there, it needs to be made easier to discover. If this feature is not in there, it needs to be. To my thinking, this is core functionality. Apple would seem to agree, because they have included the ability to identify "key" photos for Events in iPhoto '08. And in the new Web Galleries. Even lowly old Homepage can do this...
The current implementation of just using the first photo on a page does not cut it. If photos are presented on a page in chronological order, (eg, to tell a story), or in alphabetical order, etc., the first picture is not going to be a good representation of the content. And having to rearrange the photos on your page to place the best picture first makes no sense from an organizational standpoint.
If you agree that this is a problem, please provide feedback to Apple.

new PHOTO app replacing iPhoto bugs/ Problems OTHER PROBLEMS :
- no longer has a five star rating system
- my keywords for selecting albums are gone.
- cannot copy location of one photo to another
- cannot have an album with keywords AND rating > a value
- cannot set key photo of album/event
- multi parameter search feature gone
Anyone got any ideas how to get around this terrible downgrade of the software ?
BTW I have just discovered that iPhoto and its' libraries are still there, so I can go back but be left behind and frozen in time on this version if I do.
Photos now take up 700Gb whereas it was 350Gb #@!$#@!@#!@#

That are all good points - but Photos is a completely new application. and it is only version 1.
Continue to use iPhoto, girraween; the next update to Photos will probably add a few more features.
iPhoto 9.6.1 is working very well with MacOS X 10.10.3.
The migration let iPhoto installed and also your iPhoto Library will still work with iPhoto.
If you did not uninstall iPhoto, it will still be there in your Applications folder. And if you had updated to the latest version iPhoto 9.6.1 before you upgraded to MacOS X 10.10.3, you can simply drag iPhoto back to the Dock from your Applications folder and continue to use it. Double click iPhoto and confirm, that you want to open iPhoto and not Photos. It is not compulsory to use Photos, while it it still the first release. When you launch iPhoto, you will see a warning, that the iPhoto Library has been migrated to Photos, but simply click the "Open iPhoto" button.The library will still work with iPhoto. ()see: If Photos won't open a library that you already migrated - Apple Support
If your iPhoto version is not iPhoto 9.6.1, you need to update it.

The main idea is to move the iPhoto app to the Trash, so Spotlight does not see it as installed, reload the AppStore, and then to try to download again from the App Store - from your Purchases tab, not from the main page, since you can neither buy iPhoto nor update it, but you can reinstall, if your AppleID is associated with it.
Meanwhile you may want to send a feature request to Apple using the feedback form. Apple - Photos - Feedback
I hope, Apple will listen and add more features to Photos to make it usable for large Photo Libraries.

I can not access the top folder in my photo albums

when I go to 'photos' in my ipod touch (3rd version) there are two folders in th menu... the first folder (the one on the top of the menu) is not accessable because the heading 'albums' is covering it.... has anyone encountered this before ?

Multiple MobileMe accounts – Set the one used for publishing Photos & Video

I'm running OS 3.0 on an iPhone 3G S. I've configured two MobileMe accounts, both Mail only (no Calendar, no Contacts). MobileMe account 1 is also the default email account as of Settings.
However: When I use one of the sharing features in the Photos app, it wants to publish to Galleries of MobileMe account 2 (though, as stated above, account 1 is set to be the default email account).
Any idea how to change this?
In the list of configured email accounts MobileMe account 2 is listed below MobileMe account 1. However, alphatically MobileMe account 2 ranges before MobileMe account 1. Is Photos simply picking the first MobileMe account it finds in alphabetical order?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

On getting the deleted mail accounts to sync back from iTunes, I had to de-select them first, and then re-select to get them to show up afterwards, but at least I can upload to the correct account now.

Photo albums are not searched by Spotlight Search. Go to Settings > General > Spotlight Search to see and reorder the available search items.

I am looking for software to store photos with. I am not a fancy photographer, and really am just looking for the digital version of a photo album. iPhoto is not cutting it, mainly because it does not back up and restore easily on an external HD.

That's how Time Machine and iPhoto now work. Restore the library to one of the external HDs, check it for the photos you want, export them to the boot drive and delete the restored library.
If you know the file name of the photo you're looking for you can search for them in the TM backup using Find Any File.
My workflow allows me to do that:
1 - upload new photos to a folder on the Desktop.
2 - name the folder to represent the contents and date: 01/03/10-Toads Bday
3 - use a file renaming app to sequentially rename the photos in the folder to: 2010-01-03-Toads Bday-001.JPG, -002,JPG, -003.JPG, etc.
4 - import the folder into iPhoto creating an Event with the same title as the folder.
Now I can search for those file by file name with any app of my choosing.

Try backing it up to your computer with iTunes. Connect it to your computer, open iTunes, click on the name of the phone in iTunes, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click Back Up Now. Also go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases to transfer you apps and other purchased media to your iTunes library.

He said that maybe it is Flash Player that runs in the background and avoid the computer to shutdown. I uninstalled Flash Player and the problem was fixed. Now I can’t watch any YouTube videos. Is there something else I can do to use Flash Player again to avoid the shutdown problem?

If YouTube is your only worry, you could instruct it to use HTML5 in stead of Flash:https://www.youtube.com/html5
Be advised though that Flash is used for other web stuff too.

"Set the Desktop Picture" command does not work in certain instances

I've decided to take a try at using automator. Anyways I've created a very simple workflow.
Get Specified Finder Items (points to an image file)
Set the Desktop Picture
Now this usually works when the desktop is set statically to a specified image. But when I set the desktop to change the picture periodically, the automator action fails to change the picture to the specified image, when executed.
Is this a bug? Is there any workaround for this?

Your workflow actually is changing the static desktop picture, it's merely failing to then switch off the "Change picture" feature.
The "Change picture" feature has a somewhat misleading name in that it's not actually changing your static desktop picture at all. Your static desktop picture remains in place as a new dynamic picture layer is continually drawn and redrawn directly on top of it.
I don't see any way of testing for or turning off the desktop slideshow automatically, short of writing a GUI AppleScript that opens System Preferences and clicks through to the relevant toggle setting. If you file feedback with Apple they might take a look at it.

How do I set the default folder for file - open file... ?

When I save a file, photo, etc., the default folder for OPENING a file becomes the last folder I SAVED to - even after closing and reopening Firefox. Is there a way to maintain the same default folder for opening files?

Diappearing photos replaced by an exclamation point within a triangle. Prior to loading Lion I could put the image number in finder and locate the original file for that photo. How do I restore photos now?

I had problems with photos disappearing and being replaced by an exclamation point within a triangle. I can see the photo in the thumbnail summary but when you click on it, the screen goes black and the exclamation point within a triangle appears along with the info on the original image number (i.e., img_1120.jpg). Prior to loading Lion, I could go to Finder, enter the image number and locate the original file for that photo. I could then restore it for editing, copying into Print Shop directly, etc. That no longer works after installing Lion. How do I restore photos now? I have 100s of photos that I have been going back to the original files and restoring and I am frantic that I will no longer be able to get to the original files. Please help! Thanks

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Can I set the address format for individual contacts?

I have some foreign friends and would like to set the address format for their individual cards correctly. I can't seem to find a way to do this. I will be taken aback if this can't be done - I think the old Claris contact product did that.
Anyone with any answer?

Hi Bryan,
When in edit mode, can you right click on the address field and change the country format there? I'm not on a Mac at the moment to double check, but that's what you do in OS 10.4 so I'd be surprised if it were changed in 10.5.

OK, you are getting closer. Now, use your result, and place a Layer above that. Use the Pen Tool to create the "pen strokes" basically tracing over your background image. Then, when you have created each Path (or Sub-Path), choose Stroke Path, with probably the Pencil Tool and a Brush size that is small enough.
Not sure which versions of PS these are good for, but here are some plug-ins, that might be helpful.

Upon Loading of page, Setting the Top and Left properties of a TextField

I would just like to ask for suggestions on how to successfully set the top and left properties of a Textfield as soon as the page is loaded.
Thru Giri's help, I was able to do this with the push of a button. What I would need to do right now is to set it as soon as the page is loaded.

Hi Jim,
It is not clear what you are trying to do here. If you want to set the top and left properties of a component when the page is loaded all you have to do is set it at design time itself. If the properties need to be set the second time the page loads then the code can be used in the event handler which submits the page.
It would help if you could explain the use case for setting the properties of a component when the page is loaded.
