Setting thresholds for Metrics in OEM

I want to set thresholds for metrics in OEM and everytime I do, the following error occurs.
Error occurred while editing the metric thresholds.
Communication exception occurred while saving the thresholds data to the emd.
Error
java.lang.Exception: No such metric
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening and what can I do to fix it.

Hi.
Monitoring templates are not permanently associated with targets.
Applying a template on a target updates the target's settings but if you modify the template afterwards you need re-apply it.
Furthermore, you can apply more than one template on a target. The second apply operation will generally override settings applied in the first one.
(As a best practice I would make sure that if I use more than one template for a specific target type , the different templates will
include different metrics).
Apply operations are logged and you can check which template was applied against which target.
This is available under "past apply operations" in the templates page.

Setting thresholds for cpu governor with TLP?

I used to have a set of scripts with every power saving trick I ever collected that would run upon un/plugging my laptop. But today I decided to play with TLP because it's all the rage these days.
It's really nice! It seems to hit more stuff than Laptop Mode Tools did, which is awesome. My powertop is reporting under 11 watts, which is about as good as I can ever get with this laptop.
The one thing I'm missing, though, is I like to switch to conservative governor when on battery. I also change the up and down thresholds to 98 and 95, respectively as per this probably dated article: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/libra … index.html .
Anyway, I have TLP set to switch to performance when plugged in and conservative when on battery. Is there any way to get TLP to also set the thresholds when the computer is unplugged? Any kind of "run this script upon unplugging" option? I think Laptop Mode Tools had that, so that would be the one thing which I'd say is better about LMT if TLP doesn't also have that.

I would assign 8 CPUs to affinity mask (CPU) and 8 CPUs to I/O affinity mask per instance.

Need Advise on Setting Critical Metric Threshold for "Status"

Hi All,
I am trying top copy all metric thresholds from OEM 9i to 10G. I ran across the metric threshold for "Status" (whether the node is up or down). It is set to "Down" and, although I'd like to set it to "Up/Down", when I hit Continue it comes back with
"The format of the critical threshold is not correct.". Does anyone know what the problem is?

you are status metrics for all targets in grid control
the notification rules for databases,hosts,listener,aplication server are enabled the send mail if the status change.

How to set collection schedule for metric thresholds

Windows Server 2008 R2Please know that I am a newbie when in regards Enterprise Manager (any version).
I am trying to use EM-Database Control version that was installed when I installed Oracle.
I am trying to activate e-mail notification when tablespace(s) usage exceeds set thresholds. Specifically the locally managed tablespaces.
I found the Metric Thresholds page, and I found the “Tablespace Space Used (%)” metric. Note this is NOT the “(dictionary managed)” metric.
I do have e-mail and credential information established.
I found where you can identify a SQL script to be executed for corrective actions for the warning and critical thresholds. However I don’t want to execute any corrective action, I am just interested in the e-mail notification.
I know I could setup a SQL script that would send an e-mail but from my reading/research I believe that e-mail notification should automatically take place so long as e-mail and credential information has been established, which has been established.
My question is:
I can find now way to set a Collection Schedule. The dictionary managed tablespace metric has a collection schedule link (i.e. Every 15 Minutes), but the non-dictionary managed tablespace metric(s) has none.
Clicking the edit icon(s) provides no way of setting the collection schedule.
Where/how do I establish a Collection Schedule for this metric?

Hi Bob,
With Grid/Cloud Control you can modify the collection frequency (interval) for the Tablespace Space Used (%) metric for locally managed tablespaces; however, you cannot do the same in DB control.
That being said, alerts from the metric are server-generated alerts, which are generated from the monitored database target. When the space used percentage exceeds the Warning or Critical threshold, assuming you have subscribed to an appropriate notification rule for email notification, you should receive an email notification in about 1 minute or so.

Set metric threshold for default metrics

Running Grid Control 10.2.0.4; have not had the time to go through an upgrade to 10.2.0.5 yet.
There are several metrics I am interested in setting a threshold for, specifically the Streams Replication metrics. When I click the "All Metrics" link on the cluster database's homepage I see a category called Streams Process Count as well as several metrics within that group. Right now none of those metrics have thresholds set. I have tried adding a threshold in the monitoring config (Preferences -> Rules -> Database availability and critical states) but the Streams metrics do not appear.
Am I missing something here? I feel kind of ridiculous for asking, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere...

Not every metric in 'all metrics' is configurable with metric thresholds.
Your workaround is to write an user definied metric.

Alerting Metric thresholds for Notification rules

Hi Guys,
Can i edit the Response Time (msec) metric under the Listener Availability Notification rule to alert only if the response time is breaching the alerting threshold for 5 minutes,as in for 5 consecutive occurences when this metric is pooled ?
For example we can execute dbms_server_alert.set_threshold(.....
consecutive_occurrences=>5
for a metric like redo_generated_sec
Can we do this for Response Time (msec) metric under the Listener Availability Notification rule ?
I am also not seeing this metric listed under v$METRICNAME
Any ideas...

I am not sure if this is related, but you can added Metrics for the Service Test associated with the Beacon via the Monitoring Setting.
Example for homepage:
Select All Targets > EM Website > Metric and Policy Settings >Tests >Monitoring Settings of homepage
Then Add/edit Metric Thresholds and Collection settings accordingly.

Setting up a metrics template

hi,
sorry but another question regarding grid control ( you can probably guess that I am quite new to it).
I want to set up a metric monitoring template, I seemed to think I had this achieved but it seems to have taken all metrics and not just the 2 I chose.

In oem alerts click on the details - its a binoculars icon. It will show you which rule was used to send you the alert. Listener alerts are different metrics the databases. So are you sure you turned that off - if thats really what you want to do.
You can just stop the emails for certain metrics and still let oem catch them. See the preferences->rules tab.

Set alerts for resource profiles

How can I set alert in 10g OEM grid alerts for resource limits set in for a particualar user profile.
Let's say we want to get an alert when sessions_per_user reaches a value of 90 if sessions_per_user has been set to 100.
Kindly guide and provide navigation if possible.

If the existing metrics don't cover what you need you'll have to create a user defined metric. read the documentation on metrics, and shout if you still need help

Yeah. Once you're in your main database page, scroll to the bottom, or search in the page for "Metric and Policy Settings". That page has a metric "Blocking Session". You can set a number against that and modify how often to check for it.
For me however it was more critical to find out "Blocked Sessions" rather than "blocking session" (1 session can block 10, or 20 other sessions). So I created a user-defined metric:
select count(*) from (select /*+ ORDERED */ blocked.inst_id ||'-'||blocked.sid blocked_sid , TRUNC(blocked.ctime/60) min_blocked from (select * from gv$lock where block != 0) blocker , gv$lock blocked where blocked.block = 0 and blocked.id1 = blocker.id1);

Count() function throws error in EQL query for metric

I am trying to use count function in EQL query for Metric Bar to show the number of occurrences of a record.
When the record type doesn't exist i expect the function to return count as 0. Instead the function throws a runtime exception and the whole Metric Bar portlet fails, with error No Results Available. Even though other components in the metric bar have valid results.

Two statements are used here because the original question was pertaining to the null set (where there are employees in the nav state but no employees that fit the special analytics criteria in the navigation state). The question/answer has nothing to do with what is in the COUNT parentheses clause as Counting a null set will always give you NULL, not 0, no matter what you put in there.
What we're really doing, in the second part of the query, is writing a query over a set of data that is not the null set (i.e. the current navigation state). This allows the 0 value to come through in the case where the first analytics statement is evaluated over a null set of records. If there were truly no records in the navigation state, this too would return a null set and not zero.

Its external search engine for SAP, we can buy this and install in the XI server.

Possible to reset component metrics in OEM?

Is it possible to reset the component metrics in OEM for a given composite app?
I'd like to run a baseline performance test, reset the metrics, then do a revised run & profile the change.
This is straightforward in OSB, but I haven't seen a way of doing it in OEM.

Configuration of Cost threshold for Parallelism

Hi all,
I want to adjust the 'Cost Threshold for Parallelism' on the SQL server running OLTP databases.
MSDN says that this is an estimate query duration - in seconds.
Is this estimate available in a DMV? I want to look at my server's query workload & assess which queries I want to be considered for parallel processing and which ones I don't.
Some potential candidates include:
dm_exec_query_stats.max_elapsed_time / dm_exec_query_stats.execution_count
I don't want to use this as this actual - where the setting is an estimate (on some arbitrary server).
I thought it might be the Estimated Subtree Cost in the query plan? Though I've read this has nothing to do with an estimated number of seconds.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

I am looking at a server which is struggling to keep up with a substantial increase in volumes.
My top 3 waits are:
- CXPACKET @ 55%
- LCK_M_IX @ 25%
- SOS_SCHEDULER_YIELD @9% (25% signal waits)
The production server has only 2 CPUs - the current MAXDOP and Cost Threshold for Parallelism are the default, 0 and 5.

I applied a Patch Set Release 2 (9.2.0.8) Patch Set 7 for Microsoft Windows (32-Bit) on the Node 2,
All is fine but when i try to discover N2 from N1 with OMS, i get only the HTTP Servers, and no database discovred,
For your information, I've 2 databases on N2
Please help me to resolve this probleme because i need to schedule some jobs.

Check where you installed the 9.2.0.8 patch, in the database home or Enterprise Manager Agent's home?
Check the compatibility between the versions of agent, database and OEM.
Try to reinstall the (correct version) agent again in Node 1.
If you have 2 database on Node 2, if they both uses the same Oracle database version and same home, you need to install the patch only once, but got to run the upgrade and catpatch.sql seperately in each databases.
