Setting time on 1130AG series Access Point

I noticed on one of my clients AP's which is an 1130AG series that it had a setting for SNTP. I was a little surprised that it did not have the capability to use regular NTP.
The SNTP servers configured for the AP were two Cisco routers.
Is this a common configuration? Is there a way to upgrade so that the AP's can use NTP?
The current code on the AP is 12.3(8)JA.
Thanks
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
The commands for this changed from NTP to SNTP somewhere in the 12.2.x releases, so "older" AP IOS's did support NTP. Here is some info for 12.3.(4)JA;
Managing the System Time and Date
You can manage the system time and date on the wireless device automatically, using the Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP), or manually, by setting the time and date on the wireless device.
Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP) is a simplified, client-only version of NTP. SNTP can only receive the time from NTP servers; it cannot be used to provide time services to other systems. SNTP typically provides time within 100 milliseconds of the accurate time, but it does not provide the complex filtering and statistical mechanisms of NTP.
You can configure SNTP to request and accept packets from configured servers or to accept NTP broadcast packets from any source. When multiple sources are sending NTP packets, the server with the best stratum is selected.
If multiple servers are at the same stratum, a configured server is preferred over a broadcast server. If multiple servers pass both tests, the first one to send a time packet is selected. SNTP will only choose a new server if it stops receiving packets from the currently selected server, or if a better server (according to the above criteria) is discovered.
Configuring SNTP
SNTP is disabled by default. To enable SNTP on the access point, use one or both of these commands in global configuration mode:
sntp server {address | hostname}
[version number]
Configures SNTP to request NTP packets from an NTP server.
sntp broadcast client
Configures SNTP to accept NTP packets from any NTP broadcast server
Enter the sntp server command once for each NTP server. The NTP servers must be configured to respond to the SNTP messages from the access point.
If you enter both the sntp server command and the sntp broadcast client command, the access point will accept time from a broadcast server but prefers time from a configured server, assuming the strata are equal. To display information about SNTP, use the show sntp EXEC command.
Hope this helps!

  • Bridging with 1131 Ag series access point.

    Hi,
I want to use 1131 AG series access point for bridging between two buildings which are 20 metres apart from each other.
Is it possible and what are the limitation for this design?
    Please help.
    thanks in advance.
    Pulkit Sharma

    Hi Pulkit,
The autonomous 1130AG series access point supports these operating wireless modes:
? Root access point?Connected to a wired LAN and supports wireless clients.
? Repeater access point? Not connected to a wired LAN, associates to a root access point, and supports wireless clients
? Workgroup bridge? Not connected to a wired LAN, associates to a root access point or bridge, and supports wired network devices.
As this unit was not designed to be use outdoors, having a clean RF line of sight is really difficult. To be honest I do not think this unit was designed to connect two remote buildings even if the units are indoors. I would look for APs with detachable antennas like the 1242AG or the 1200 modular series so you can use external antennas and bridging roles.
    Hope it helps,
    Roger Carpio.

  • Need to disable AP mode multicast in 1231 series access point

    Hi
I have one controller 2504 and some 1200 series access points.I am using 3 SSID .I want to use two ssid in HREAP mode but HREAP mode is not showinh in access point because multicast is enabled on AP mode. Please see the below picture
I have disabled the multicast globally from CLI.
    config network multicast global disabled
Please help me in disabling the multicast so that i can set the access point in HREAP mode.
    Thanks ....

    Hi George
I have found a document in which it is mentioned which platform are supported..
These are the restrictions to remember while you use H-REAP.
Hybrid REAP is supported only on the 1130AG, 1140, 1240, 1250, 1260,           AP801, AP 802, 1040, and AP3550 APs and on the Cisco WiSM, Cisco 5500, 4400,           2100, 2500, Flex 7500 Series Controllers, the Catalyst 3750G Integrated           Wireless LAN Controller Switch, and the Controller Network Module for           Integrated Services Routers.
But why it is giving an remark on controller tab that multicast is not supported with HREAP on this platform ?
Is this the limitation of cisco 2504 controller or the limitation of 1231 access point ?
Does that mean i can use my SSID in HREAP mode if i am using 1231 series access point ?
    Thanks...

  • 1300 Series Access Point/Bridge Power Injector - Using power over ethernet

Can I use power over ethernet to supply the Injector with power?

    Hi Mikael,
    Sorry, this will not work. Have a look at these specs;
    1300 Series Power
    Power
The access point/bridge receives inline power from the Cisco Aironet Power Injector (hereafter called the power injector). Dual-coax cables are used to provide Ethernet data and power from the power injector to the access point/bridge. The power injector is an external unit designed for operation in a sheltered environment, such as inside a building or vehicle. The power injector also functions as an Ethernet repeater by connecting to a Category 5 LAN backbone and using the dual-coax cable interface to the access point/bridge.
The power injector is available in two models:
Cisco Aironet Power Injector LR2 standard version (included with the access point/bridge)
    48-VDC input power
Uses the 48-VDC power module (included with the access point/bridge)
Cisco Aironet Power Injector LR2T optional transportation version
    12- to 40-VDC input power
Note The power injector and the power module must not be placed in an outdoor unprotected environment. The power module must not be placed in a building's environmental air space, such as above a suspended ceiling.

Dual coaxial cable to run from the power injector to the 1300. See attached notes:
    Cisco Aironet 1300 Series
Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Access Point/Bridge Power Injector
The Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Outdoor Access Point/Bridge Power Injector, converts the standard 10/100 BaseT Ethernet interface that is suitable for weather protected areas to a dual F-Type connector interface for coax cables that are more suitable for harsh outdoor environments. The Power Injector also provides power to the outdoor unit over the same cables with a power discover feature and surge protection. To support longer cable runs from your wireless network switch or router, the Power Injector LR is designed to accommodate up to a 100 meter coaxial cable run plus 100 meters of indoor cat5 cable?enabling total cable runs up to 200 meters. The Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Outdoor Access Point/Bridge ships with the Power Injector LR2 and an AC power supply.

  • 1600 series Access Point

i want to know 1600 series Access Point support the below or not :-
    1)Support up 64 Users
    2)VPN pass-through support
    3)Wireless Distribution System
    4)Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) 64-bit, 128-bit encryption

    Hi Peter,
will you use this AP as standalone or  with Controller ?
    1. Normally, the AP is a shared medium and acts as a wireless hub, the performance of each user decreases as the number of users increases on an individual AP. Ideally,as rule of thumb not more than 25 clients should associate with the AP because the throughput of the AP is reduced with each client that associates to the AP.
    2. VPN connection will work with this AP.
    3. WDS supported.
    4. yes, It supports.

  • How to set up the Time Capsule as an access point

    Hi there,
I have home office and am having wifi-connectivity issues due to the layout of my home.
I'm getting the electrician to set up ethernet outlets in various rooms in my house so that I can get wired connections in several rooms. What I want to do is connect my Time Capsule to one of those ethernet ports (see the diagram below) so that I can still broadcast a wi-fi signal in my house while having wired connections elsewhere.

    Lan Port 1

    Dining Room (Time Capsule)
In my research in how to set this up, I've come across documentation that shows how to convert an old Netgear/Linksys wifi router to an access point. Here's an example of the documentation I've run across: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-basics/30338-how-to-convert-a-w ireless-router-into-an-access-point. What I haven't encountered is how to do this with a Time Capsule.
    Here are my questions:
Do I just follow these instructions and substitute "Time Capsule" where the author references "AP"?
I currently have my network set up through the Time Capsule. Here are some of the things that I currently have set up and corresponding questions:
all computers can access the printer via wifi - under the above setup, will all computers (connected to the new network via wired OR wireless access) still have access to the printer?
I have my macbook set up as a media center for my xbox and PS3. The Xbox and PS3 connect to my macbook and access the movie files that I have saved on my Time Capsule and a 2nd HDD that is connected to the Time Capsule via USB - under the above setup, will I still be able to access those movies with my PS3 and Xbox via the macbook media center software?
Thanks a ton for any help or advice. It's much appreciated.

Excellent.. great to see people doing the job properly and wiring ethernet.
    Here are my questions:
Do I just follow these instructions and substitute "Time Capsule" where the author references "AP"?
Apple system is slightly different.. although the AP method would work the TC has a programmed state for placing it in AP mode.
    And Apple even documented it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4260
The difference in your system, is you are not using an Apple primary router (I presume) but otherwise the same.
Any router setup as WAP, you bridge the router part.. and you use Same wireless name.. same security setting (WPA2 Personal is WPA2 AES and the only one suitable). Same passkey..
I would add one difference to the apple insstructions.. they depend on auto wireless channels working. IMHO, auto anything in wireless is akin to voodoo black arts and has more to do with beads and rattles than science. It works fine in some case.. terrible in others.. lock it down. Set the wireless yourself.. at 2.4ghz there are only 3 non overlapping channels.. 1, 6, 11 .. if you use 300mbit N on the main router, it will use 2 of those channels.. choose the third for the TC.
Of course the TC can also use 5ghz.. and I lock it down as well but that is more my control freak nature.. and strong skeptism of anything auto in the wireless world.
I currently have my network set up through the Time Capsule. Here are some of the things that I currently have set up and corresponding questions:
all computers can access the printer via wifi - under the above setup, will all computers (connected to the new network via wired OR wireless access) still have access to the printer?

Your number auto changed.. fun isn't it when i edit it shows correctly but when I post it changes the format.
On the new setup the printer will still be available to all clients .. whether wireless or wired.
And to second part, yes, all file access is not going to change.. well I don't predict any.. IP of the system might change around but overall you are creating a single flat network. And that will work fine.

  • Set up time capsule as wireless access point

I am trying to set up my old apple time capsule as a wireless access point for my girlfriend. She is at college and the university does not permit routers, so I am trying to set the time capsule up so that is just takes the hardwired internet and allows wireless access to the internet so she can use her iPad and MacBook Air on the wireless instead of having to use a gigabit adapter to use the ethernet. The time capsule has the newest firmware and she is running mavericks which has the newest airport utility software. However I am not sure what settings to use to make this work. I am fairly intelligent when it comes to computers however I am not very skilled in networking. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thank you in advance!

How old is the Time Capsule? Running what firmware?
You have a problem.. If you cannot use the TC in router mode, then you are going to have to use it in bridge.. and it then depends on if the Uni system will hand out mulitple IP addresses. .which I doubt. In the end you might be stuck.. and it is not possible really with any system..
Bridge normally requires that the TC take an IP address and then clients connecting to the TC wireless will also get IP addresses.. but if the uni system only hands out one address then the TC has already captured it and there are no more available.. but try that method first.. as it is the easiest.
If it fails there is a more complicated method.. where we can give the TC a separate static IP in a different IP range and the wireless will still be bridged.. so the MBA or the ipad can use the wireless.. but only one can ever be online at a time.
The only way around this is to use the TC as a router contra the rules in the uni.. although I would suggest the uni only cares if you break their system. Most people don't.. but I am unsure what happens if you do.
Ask their IT people how to use a wireless only device like ipad, when they only provide ethernet. You might find there already is a wireless internet system as well.

  • Setting wireless router as an access point

I'm trying to set up a wireless router as an access point for a wired router. The wired portion of the network is fine and the internet connection is working.  The laptop sees the wireless router and can log in to it.  However, the wireless router does not receive an internet connection and cannot "see" the wired portion of the network. I cannot log into the wireless router from one of the wired computers.
Below are the settings I'm using:
    Wired router--Linksys BEFSR41v3
     Obtain ID Automatically
     192.168.0.1
     255.255.255.0
     Local DHCP enabled
     Start # 192.168.0.100
     RIP Disabled
     UPnP off
    Wirless router--Linksys WRT54GS
     Automatic Conifguration DHCP
     192.168.0.2
     255.255.255.0
     DHCP Server off
     Firewall/NAT off
     UPnP off
Set to Router function (rather than Gateway)
I have had to set the laptop to a static IP, since it keeps revereting to a default IP.  It is set to 192.168.0.102, 255.255.255.0, Gateway=192.168.0.1, DNS=192.168.0.1
    Any suggestions would be welcome.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

As you have Disabled the DHCP Server on the Router and the Changed the IP on the Router to 192.168.0.2. the only thing remaining is the Connection part that is you need the Connect the BEFSR41 router from the Number one port to the Number one of WRT54GS that should Work. Please remove the Static IP Address from the Computers.

  • Typical propagation distance of outdoor(1552E series) access point

    Hello All,
I need to propose an design for outdoor WAP deployment for an huge resort. As it is a complete open space area without any obstruction, I believe the signal can be propagated easily in over 35 meters radius across the access point. However I don't get any documentation to know exact propagation distance.
Could someone please share their experiences as to what is the ideal distance of signal coverage that could be covered by a typical Cisco outdoor access point? I do not want to go for over quoting as that might result from the client opting for other vendor's product. I would thus want to go with most appropriate plan.
Also apart from 11ac capability and multiple spatial streams, does 1570 AP have any other major improvement as well our its predecessor 1552E series AP.
    Please share your expereinces.
    Best Regards,
    Muhammed Adnan

    Factors Affecting Wireless Networking Performance
There are many factors that affect your Wireless Networking Performance that are dependent on various areas within the network itself from the technology of the devices used, the local environment the signals will travel through, the fundamental physics behind wireless transmission and more. Some of these cannot be avoided and measures must be taken to try to minimise the negative affect that these factors will have on the network performance but others can be resolved completely either though equipment upgrading or good network planning.
There are some well known factors that affect Wireless Networking performance that most people will identify easily but that does not lessen their importance when considering network planning, these are:
Obvious Factors Affecting Wireless Networking Performance
        Physical Obstructions
Network Range & Distance between Devices
        Wireless Network Interference
        Signal Sharing
Quite Well Known Factors Affecting Wireless Networking Performance
        Network Usage & Load
        Poorly Deployed Antennas
        Local Environment Characteristics
        Spectrum Channel Limitations
        Signal Reflection
        Wireless Signal Restriction
Lesser Known Factors Affecting Wireless Networking Performance
        Transmitter Power Limitations
        Backwards Compatibility with Older Standards
        Polarisation of Signal
Speed Loss Due to Wireless Overheads
        Lowering Performance to Stay Connected

  • 3600 Series Access Point Problem

    Have a AIR-CT5508-K9 Controller running 7.0.116.0 software.
Just purchased 3 AIR-CAP3602I-A-K9 access points.
When these try to join the controller we receive the following error message.
    %CAPWAP-3-UNSUPPORTED_WLC_VERSION: Unsupported version 7.0.116.0 on WLC Plt-72-Controller-1
Do the 3600's require a certain revision of code?
Also I read were the 3600's require a GE connection. Will they work on a FE connection?
    Please advise.....................

Yes, you need to be funning 7.2 code for the 3600 to join and work.
Make sure you check the release notes for hte supported AP, incase you are running any that are not supported in 7.2

    Stan,
Sounds like you have an interference problem.
What did your site survey show up in terms of other AP's and overlapping coverage areas ? Try a new channel that has the 2 channel separation from other busy channels and maybe even try a new/better placement of the AP
effectivly what you have now is the equivalent of pulling out the cable and plugging it back in constantly on a standard IP phone this means you will not be able to make calls
What firmware you running on the AP ?

  • Does WLC 2500 series spupports 1262 series Access Point?

Does AIR-CT2504-25-K9 spupports AIR-LAP1262N-E-K9  Access Point? How can I check this?

AFAIK, the 2504 supports anything in the 7.0.116.0 Release Note.  It should be called out in the release note if the 2504 does not support anything in particular.
Since the 1262 is the non CleanAir version of the 3502e, which is only availabile in 7.0+ anyhow, I would have to imagine it is supported in the new WLC.
