Setting to turn off .Mac advertisements?

Is there some setting in iWeb to turn off the .mac advertisement window? It pops up every time this application starts or when I transfer photos from iPhoto.

I found a way around it although it's not a very elegant fix.
1. Open System Preferences.
2. Click on .Mac.
3. Enter a member name and password. Type return so System Preferences tries to validate the member name and password. It doesn't matter what they are - Just make them up.
4. Close System Preferences.
5. Open iWeb and the .Mac advertisement is no longer there.
Hope this helps!

  • PSE 7 Welcome Screen startup options and turning off the advertising

The PSE 7 Welcome Screen no longer provides a start-up option for bypassing it and going directly to the Organizer or Editor. In addition, many people are annoyed by the advertising for Photoshop.com on the Welcome Screen and by the constant flashing tips in the lower right corner of the Organizer and Editor.
    Here are some workarounds:
Create shortcuts directly to the Organizer and Editor. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to
    > C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0
Find the file PhotoshopelementsEditor.exe, right-click it, and select Create Shortcut. You can then drag the shortcut to your desktop or the Start Menu. Alternatively, you can right click photoshopelementseditor.exe and click Pin To Start Menu, which will place a shortcut on the Windows Start menu. Do the same thing for the file PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe.
Turn off the advertising on the Welcome Screen. By turning off the advertising, you can still use the Welcome Screen to get to the Organizer, the Editor, Photoshop.com, and the tutorials. Use Windows Explorer to set the permissions of
    >C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Locale\en_US\Welcome Screen Pods
to deny Read & execute for Everyone (The path is a little different on XP.)
Turn off the flashing tips on the lower right corner of the Organizer and Editor. Use Windows Explorer to set the permissions of
    >C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Locale\en_US\Messaging Pods
to deny Read & execute for Everyone. (The path is a little different on XP.)

I am using XP and the path to the folder is as follows:
    C:\Document and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\7.0\Locale\en_US\Messaging Pods
However, I can't figure out how to "set the permissions". Is this possible in XP? Could someone please elaborate.
I am only interested in changing the tips (in the lower right corner that lead you to photoshop.com) in the Editor, since I do not use the Welcome Screen or Organizer.
    Thanks,

  • Turning off MAC filtering

I can't connect to the internet and the problem is with my airport extreme/leopard. I need to find out how to cut off the MAC address filtering to allow my iPhone and windows computer to connect to the internet. I have the modem ethernet plug in my airport, and another ethernet cable coming from that to my windows PC. Both the PC and my iPhone get the 169 IP address and the subnet of 255.255.0.0, so this is an issue with the security on my airport extreme. This issue wasn't there when I had tiger installed but I recently upgraded to Leopard and all of a sudden this is an issue. How do you turn off MAC filtering as I am sure this is the issue holding me up.

Open the Airport Utility, which is in Applications > Utilities.
Select your Airport Extreme and click "Manual Setup".
    Choose the Access Control tab.
Set MAC Address Access Control to "Not Enabled" and click "Update".

Hi , and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
And sorry to report that OSX is more Widows like than ever, but….
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • Emptied trash of iphoto, turned off Mac in middle to stop process but lost most photos. Trying to find them...

I deleted my photos in my iphoto library as I thought I had backed them up to my harddrive. However, when I emptied trash of iphoto, I worried I hadn't saved them and could not stop it so I turned off Mac in middle but when I turned on Mac, there were only 3000 images left out of the 8000 original photos. Can I retrieve them somehow or are they gone foreve

When you empty the trash in iPhoto the photos will/should be moved to the System Trash in your Dock. Have you looked there, if there are still photos left? Then drag them out of the Trash.

  • If I turn off Mac Mini Mid2011, LED doesn't turn black.

I turned off the Mac Mini Mid 2011. BUT, the Mac Mini's Light(White LED) doesn't want to turn off and the only way to COMPLETELY shut down is to force shut down.I'm worrying about bad sectors so I'm asking.
Is there any way to solve?

I just want to know if I turn off iMessages and iCloud Back up, and ONLY use SMS myself and my family just SMS's me - and do this on my PHONE ONLY and not touch his ipad (so he doesn't know), if he will get any of my messages I send or receive on his ipad please. Its just a temp thing and I just want to take action myself on my own phone and want to know if this will work. Does anyone know?
SMS messages will not go to the iPad Mini. It's not capable of receving them. If you have access and can do it without it causing a problem, remove your iPhone from the Apple ID Support profile:
    Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
    Click on "Edit Products"
Click on the "X" to the right of the product.
    Click "Unregister"
If anyone in your family uses iMessage, they will go to both you and your boyfriend unless you do that.
To be completely safe, you may want to simply use an alternate message app such as Skype, Viber, Whatsapp (assuming everyone has a smartphone) until the issue is resolved. Google Voice will also allow you to send and receive texts to another number on your phone.
    Best of luck.

  • Where is the setting to turn off descriptive audio

I cannot find a way to turn off descriptive audio overlay in QT player, so there are two slightly out of sync soundtracks with a descriptive audio track.
    What is the solution?

This isn't built in but if you Google something like
"iphone settings shortcuts without jailbreak" you'll find various ways to set these shortcuts up.  It's not exactly "official" but it does not involve doing that "escaping from legal custody" thing which we cannot mention here

  • Accidently turned off mac during install now it won't reinstall

As stated above I accidently turned off my mac during an install of lion. Before installing lion i used disk utillity to delete the Hdd and now it wont resume the instalation. It´s booting with the lion disk and enters the instalation, but comes up with a fail message saying that lion connot be installed. I have tried to redelete my Hdd using diskutility but it still wont work. cannot seen to get anywhere from here.
    what to do...?

I had a similar problem.  See this problem / answer for a solution:
        http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    which I found at:
        https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3207417
Resetting the PRAM by pressing Command-Option-P-R during the boot was all I had to do.  It automatically did a restart and I pressed Option to get prompted for the boot drive (don't know if I had to do that last part).

  • Can't turn off Mac after burning DVD.

I burned a DVD of images for a client on my MBP 15" Retina (i.e. latest model) on the USB Superdrive. It ejected fine and seems to have finished correctly.  However I had a message that the disc burn failed but that I could try again.  When I tried to turn my Mac off I got the message "The Finder is about to quit. Click Continue to eject the disc without burning “Untitled Disc” to it."  There was no disc in the drive (and I also tried this with a new disc in the drive with the same result) but I clicked continue, the window closed but the MBP stayed resolutely switched on.
I've since burned another DVD in the hope that that would make the Mac 'forget' about "Untitled Disc", but it hasn't and I can't turn off my computer!  There doesn't seem to be a hard 'power off' button like my old 17" MBP either.
There's no DVD disc image or folder called "Untitled Disc" that I can eject or delete.  Any advice on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Open Terminal (Utilities Folder) type
    drutil eject
    then hit enter.
    You may try also
    drutil eject external
    then hit enter.

  • Turn off apple advertising tracking!

I just found out that advertising tracking is "on" as a default.  To turn off the tracking, go to Settings, General, About, then Limit Ad Tracking and turn it off.
    http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2012/10/12/advertising_identifier_how_to _stop_apple_s_ios6_from_tracking_your_activity.html

I do not think of myself as being paranoid. I am not looking over my shoulder to see if "they" (whoever "they" are) are following me.
I understand that every time I make a call on my iPhone the location of the cell tower handling the call is logged. I understand that every time I access the internet my location is logged. Does this bother me? Of course not. If I were writing the software to handle these kind of interchanges I would also log those locations. Am I still making calls and googling when out? Of course. Am I losing sleep over this? Of course not.
But it offends my sense of privacy to know that Apple is actively tracking my locations and purposefully storing that information as compared to having the information stored as a side-effect of something else. Is there any real difference? No, I don't think so. But I think we all want at least the illusion of privacy.
The article contained the following paragraph:
--> In addition to giving Apple customers the ability to turn off all location features with one "on/off" toggle switch, Apple requires applications to get explicit customer approval when it asks for location information for the first time.
So I was asking where the "on/off" toggle was.

  • Is there a global setting to turn off black border on swfs?

    Hi there
I started this question in the Framemaker forum as I assumed it was a Framemaker issue..
see: FM12 Imported Captivate 8 files, how do I get rid of the black border?
but it seems to be an Acrobat thing, so am trying here as I've not used Acrobat much.
My problem is that all my swfs (imported into Framemaker 12 and then saved as pdf), show up with an unwanted black border around them. So there is this dialogue box which comes up when you right click an imported swf... and I can turn off the border on individual swfs after the pdf is produced. Could anyone tell me if there is a global equivalent or a way to stop them happening in the first place? Would be very much appreciated.

You need to file a feature request for Framemaker - it doesn't use Acrobat to create PDFs. The default for embedding Rich Media in Acrobat is 'no border', but the FM team clearly have another opinion on what their users want.

  • HT1807 in the general setting, i turned off cellular and made sure that the cellular date, enable lte and data roaming was off. if when off, i was receiving telephone calls while travelling in the usa

while travelling in the usa, i turned off cellular in settings and also made sure that the cellular data, enable lte and data roaming was off. \however, i was still receiging telephone calls

Turning off cellular data doesn't turn off the ability of the phone to make or receive phone calls. In order to do that, you'd need to put the phone in Airplane Mode.

  • How do I turn off the advertising bar on the right of the screen?

Everytime I start Firefox there is a very annoying bar on the right that contains advertising. I want to turn this feature off. How do I do it? I've searched the help menu but can't get an answer.

That is not a built-in feature of Firefox. First check to see if an add-on is causing this, to do that follow the procedure in the [[troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article.
Also check to see if that bar is part of a site that is stored as a home page, if it is you can change the home page, for details see [[how to set the home page]].
I am not aware of any malware that behaves like this, but to be safe try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:
