Setting unread mail to read mail

i restored my itouch 2G and then when i opened my mail app i got over 50 unread messages. but of course i read each one already before the restore when they came in one by one. how can put the unread mail as read without reading each one?

Depending on what type of account it is, you might be able to mark the messages unread on your computer and then as read.
If it's IMAP, it should mark the ones on the iPod as read too.
POP, probably not.

  • The fonts all turned bold even in sites and even in mails for read and unread mails.

When I visit any sites, the fonts on my browser turns bold. Even when in my e-mail accounts (yahoo, gmail), my read and unread mails/messages are both in bold. Why? What Should I do?

Such an error can indicate a problem with a missing or corrupted font.
You can try to run the System File Checker program to see if that fixes it.

  • Can't find a 'phantom' unread mail or mark it as being read

I'm using mail on various machines to access an Exchange server account. It generally works with no problems, but on my work MacPro (and only on this computer not the iMac at home, various laptops, iPad, iPhone etc) mail tells me there is an unread message. However, I can't find this message and it's not there when I use a webmail interface to access the same account. No problem, I figured I could just right click on the mailbox and 'mark all messages as read', but this doesn't work! I like to keep a clear inbox with no unread messages and it's driving me nuts!
I'm guessing that there's some strange synching conflict, but don't know how to solve it. Any ideas, please?
    Thanks, Jon.

I tried both, but neither has worked.
    a) Rebuilding the mailbox revealed another unread mail that actually existed, but didn't remove the 'phantom'.
    b) The SM trick uncovered lots of unread news items from Apple, but not the 'phantom'.
Thanks for your help, but I might need to do something more drastic like deleting the account and adding it again.
    Thanks, Jon.

  • Setting up Mail to read Hotmail...?

How do I set up Mail to read my hotmail? What sort of account - POP, IMAP etc. and what do I put as the mail server - hotmail.com or something else?

I don't know the incoming or outgoing mail server but to access a Hotmail account with the Mail.app requires installing a httpmail plugin which adds the httpmail protocol and the account type to choose from when creating the account.
You can download the httpmail plugin here.

  • Why does Mail reply to the first unread mail in a conversation rather than the one I'm viewing?

When I have "Organize by Conversation" set in Mail and I click on the top of a conversation group which brings up all the messages in that conversation, usually highlighting the earliest unread message, which is fine behavior.
However, when I scroll through the messages to a more recent read or unread message and now have a completely different message in view than that first one, when I hit Reply, Mail replies to that earliest unread message even though it is completely not in view. This is very confusing and frustrating behavior for me since I would expect mail to respond to the message I'm looking at, not one I was looking at a few minutes ago! I can probably get around this by turning of the conversation view, but I like that part and this seems like a big that should be fixed.
Is anyone else frustrated by this strange UI-ism? Know a work around?
    Thanks

Thanks for the reply CT. I forgot to say I wanted to use just the keyboard. II was using the keyboard shortcut cmd-R for reply when I was having the problem.
I think there is some set of keys that I stumbled upon once to delve into the messages in a conversation but I can't rememember it, recreate it, or always remember to highlight the message I'm looking at before I hit cmd-R.

  • Mail - Unread Mail Count corrupted

I have set up a Smart Mailbox in Mail to hold all of my unread mail until I have a chance to deal with it.  It is called "Unread" and the condition for the box is simply all messages that match the condition "Message is Unread"
There are currently 15 messages in this Smart Mailbox, yet the count at the side of the Mailbox list indicates 1197, and when I click on that Mailbox the title across the top of Mail indicates "Unread (15 messages, 1197 unread)".
Clearly that unread count has been corrupted some way ... is there any way to reset it?
Many thanks to anyone who can help!
    OS X 10.9 [Mavericks] Build 13A693 | Mail Version 7.0 (1816)

Not entirely te same thing but after upgrading to 10.9 my Gmail item count in my "Inboxes" is continually set at "1" eventhough there are no unread messages.  I have also gone to gmail via the web app and it shows no unread messages.  So something is assuredly wacky.

  • Wrong number of unread Mails in Dock icon

I have set Mail to check all mail folders to display the number of unread mails in the dock icon because I'm using IMAP accounts and have incoming mails filtered into different folders.
However, even if I mark all mails as read in every folder the dock icon still shows one unread message. I can't seem to find that damned mail.
Can I somehow reset the count? How do I find, which mail Mail still thinks is unread?
    Thanks in advance.

Create a smart folder based on mail status is unread. Then go to that folder and you should find the mail
An "unread mail" smart folder is quite handy for other things as well, such as easily finding all unread mail that's scattered across all those folders -- much more efficient

  • Mail Badge Does Not Update # of Unread Mail Messages

My iPhone is stubbornly refusing to update my number of MobileMe unread mail messages. For some reason, it is displaying 6 more unread messages than there actually are. No if I have no unread messages, the badge reads 6. If I have 5 unread messages, the badge reads 11.
I access MobileMe via my iMac, iPad, and iPhone (iOS 4.1). My iMac and iPad aren't having this issue. Any suggestions about how to fix this problem? Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Did you mean the connected Microsoft account used to Mail APP and all Windows 8.1 computer?
If yes, it's indeed as what you describe. Since Windows 8.1 Mail app has been designed such a way that, it will keep you in logged in mode all the time so that you will be able to check your emails without logging in to the webmail. In other words, it's
always keep session. Therefore, it wouldn't ask credential to confirm.
However, this is not only depending on Mail App but also related with mail type security. Based on my test, Adding an Exchange email account, it will prompt to check password setting at once if you change password. Adding an Hotmail account, nothing happened
    after change the password.

  • Unread Mail Count wrong after Time Machine restore

I, and others on this forum seem to have an unsolved issue having restored from Time Machine backup, so presumably a glitch somewhere in the restore system.
We have followed the normal advice of rebuilding mailboxes, but it doesn't help.
Does anyone have an answer to how to reset the unread mail count to zero other than trash all the accounts and manually 'rebuild'
    Thanks
    Stephen

    Hi,
I cannot take credit for this solution - I found the answer to this by searching through the Mail discussion forums. Another user had 3 emails that he had read, but they were still showing up in his Mail Badge Counter and this is how he fixed it.
    The super-simple-solution:
Create a "Smart Mailbox" and set it to only contain all unread mail messages. This will grab all of the emails that Mail "thinks" are unread and is marking as such in the badge counter. Select all the emails, mark as read... and you're good to go.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is Push supposed to be for unread mail only?

I have my iPhone set to receive Push notifications for Mail.
When I get new mail, I get a badge on the Mail icon and I get a banner notification when I have that turned on. All good so far...
However, when I read the email on one of my other devices (two computers or iPad) the 'read' status doesn't get pushed out to the phone. The only way the Mail app on the phone updates to the current state of my inbox is if I go to the app and force a refresh.
Is this a bug or a feature?
The only discussions of it I could find on here are from 2008, but I didn't want to resurrect an old thread so I'm asking again. From what I've seen it was never resolved back then, so I can only assume it's meant to be this way, but I can't see why. If you want Push, surely it's so that you can know the status of your inbox by just glancing at the icon, not having to go into the app and manually force an update. If Push is only ever supposed to send 'unread' notifications, not 'read' or 'deleted', isn't it kind of pointless? If I'm misunderstanding the concept, please educate me.

You seem to be describing the difference between Push, which sends out notification to the iPhone when ever a new message arrives, and Fetch which requires the iPhone to check with the server for new messages.
I get that difference, so no need to cut & paste that paragraph again...
What I don't understand is how that applies to my problem.
If I receive a new email, the badge icons on my desktop, laptop, iPad and iPhone all show that there's a new message, so I know Push is working. When I read the message on my desktop machine, the laptop icon reverts to no badge and the message is marked as read almost instantaneously. On the iPhone and the iPad, that doesn't happen until some other event makes the mobile app check in with the server. That event can either be opening the app or another new message arriving.
    Detailed example:
I send a message from GMail to my iCloud mail, subject 'Test 1'
The message appears on all 4 devices
I read the message on the desktop
The laptop immediately marks it as read, the iPad and iPhone still show '1' on the Mail icon
I send a second message from GMail to iClound, subject 'Test 2'
The laptop and desktop show one new message. The iPhone which happened to have the Mail app running buzzes as if there's new mail, but retains the '1' badge because it simultaneously marked Test 1 as read and received Test 2
The iPad which wasn't running Mail, shows '2' as a badge but on opening Mail, the app checks with the server and changes the number of new messages to '1'
My question is why does having the iOS devices setting for 'Fetch New Data' set to 'Push' not result in the same behaviour as seen on the MacOS Mail app? Is the fact that a message was read or deleted not considered new data?
Maybe I'll just experiment and put the iPhone on Fetch and leave the iPad on Push and see which gives me the more useful functionality.

  • Can I set new mail to top on iPhone 5s??

Can I set up my iPhone to bring new or unread mail to the top just like on a mac?

No with the built in app. However, there are lots of mail apps in the App Store. Depending on who your email provider is, one of them may meet your needs.

  • Unread Mail Count

Is it possible to have an application read an unread mail count (in the menu bar, etc.) while the actual Mail app is not active?

You can get that via AppleScript:
    tell application "Mail"
set theCount to unread count of mailbox "Junk"
    end tell
This will tell you how many unread Junk emails you have. Substitute any other mailbox name.

  • IPhone with Exchange 2010 account. Add "unread mail" folder?

    Hi,
Is there any way to make search folders appear (like unread mail) in the Mail app in iOS using our corporate exchange account?
If not are there any alternatives?
    Thank you,
    C.L.

Unread is a smart folder so no. But you can create a rule to move all new emails to your own "unread folder" you have to create. Just create a rule where you are in the To or CC of any email. Then either send a copy to that folder or all mail to the folder. This will give you an easy way to find the email, but creates duplicates in your Outlook Unread folder. Kind of a pain but gets the emails on your phone into the same area. Hope this helps.

  • VZ Contact Transfer will not work on Wi-Fi; Synch with iTunes sets up mail

VZ Contact Transfer goes into a loop with Verizon iPhone connected to your Wi-Fi and does not work.
Your wi-fi network will come up right after registering VZ iPhone. You could wait until later to allow it to connect.
Otherwise, disconnect router to force iPhone onto Verizon 3G network and proceed. If you click the change phone number button, it will get you a new access code to your old Verizon contacts from Verizon back up. (Back up before signing up on iPhone)
Took me hours of fooling around to learn this on another bulletin board.
Also after hours of fooling around to set up mail, synched iPhone thru iTunes to mail, calendar, etc and the email accounts set themselves up.
Hope this saves you some time
    Enjoy!

I don't have an answer for you but from my experience iOS WiFi syncing has always been a hit and miss affair (more miss than hit I'm afraid). I have gotten to the stage where I rarely use the WiFi sync. It is just quicker, easier and much less stressful to use the USB cable. I am having the same issues with all the iOS devices in our family which includes various models of iPhone, iPad and an iPod Touch and have been having them since WiFi syncing was introduced (in iOS5 ???). And then I have not even mentioned my favorite iTunes syncing messages: "Waiting for items to copy" and "Waiting for changes to be applied"!
iTunes is always extremely quick and eager to pick up the devices but as soon as I click on sync it shows "Looking for iDevice" and then the device disappears. I have found that initiating the sync from the Settings app on the device prevents this issue.
It does however seem as if it is worse with Windows 7. I did not have so many issues with my previous Windows Vista PC.
Sorry I cannot be of any help.
