Setting up a Mail domain Alias

Hi
We are trying to set up a mail domain alias so that a user can receive mails on either [email protected] or [email protected], the default mail domain on which OCS has been installed is domainA.com
I've tried the rewrite rules for inbound SMTP as:
Pattern To Match
$[email protected]
Action
Apply Rewrite
Rewrite To Apply
$[email protected]
But it does not seem to work (I'm just not receiving any test mails and don't know where we can check for logs for any discarded mails)
Is there any simple way to set up this 'maildomain alias'?
Many thanks for your assistance
Rgds
Vicky

Marc,
In this situation, I think you only need to add the additional addresses, into the Email Address entry box in Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information. You put a comma after the existing address, and add another. Put a comma after the new, one, and you can add still another.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302215
and
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mail/2.0/en/ml1019.html
You will need to be sure to select the correct one, in each reply or new message. The latter link is also found in Mail Help.
Does this fulfill your need?

  • Virtual Mail Domains

    10.4.10 Server.
I've set up virtual mail domains. Added email addresses to the shortnames list. When anyone sends an email to [email protected] it gets delivered to all hosted domains. So i get the same email in domain2.com.
    Anyone know what's causing this?
    cheers
    Multiple   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Sydney, while you are waiting for a response, just a clarification on local DNS, MX, etc...
The MX record is only required for 'external' users, in order to discover where the responsible mail server is (because all they have to start from is a basic domain name, not a server hostname). In your LAN, your mail clients will already have this location as you put this into the sending/receiving field in the mail client - either as a hostname (which must be resolvable to the local server's IP in your local DNS) or directly as an IP address. So local DNS does not need an MX record if this scenario is applicable.
The hostname you put into your local mail client has no meaning to the mail server - it purely resolves to an IP address and then your client 'drops' that hostname and contacts the mail server at the IP address. The important bit of info used by the mail client is the user login name - this tells the mail server what account, in what domain, to access.

  • HT5361 Trying to set up a Crazy Domains hosted email address in Mail is proving impossible. Anyone got any idea of the correct settings?

Help! Does anyone know how to set up a Crazy Domains email account in Mac Mail? I'm at the point of screaming with frustration. None of the settings are specific enough and the automatic setup app doesn't work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Cathie

    Hi LondonSteveF,
         This is a regular ocurrance.
You can try and fix it until you're blue in the face ... there's nothing you can do.
I have spent days on this issue, and more than once.
It's to do with Crazy's system blocking you out, for no apparent reason.
It fixes itself within time. By the time you've raised concerns with Crazy and they eventually get back to you .... it's all over.
Hang tight.... your emails should come back online on their own.
As a side note ... I've been trying to fix an issue with them for the past 2-3 years. Everytime I bring it up, I get different answers from different 'Help Desk' staff. It's never been fixed.
Ever notice that when you raise a support ticket ... you'll get an email survey about how they went with it ... before you actually hear back from them or have to issue looked into and fixed?
    Cheers!

  • Still about domain alias and domain migration

Our company is under a domain name transition. Currently, our domain is lab.D.com, and we are moving to aaa.com.During the transition, we wish both domains could work for us for a long time.
I added a domain alias aaa.com for our domain lab.D.com, the ldif shows:
    dn: dc=aaa, dc=com, o=internet
    objectclass: alias
    objectclass: inetDomainAlias
    aliasedObjectName: dc=lab, dc=D, dc=com, o=internet
    dc: aaa
after restarting msg server, I can send email to [email protected] which is acutually [email protected]
However, this is only half-way to my goal. I wish our emails at receivers' mailboxes were [email protected], not [email protected], if we send emails though loging in web mail typing [email protected] in the user ID box, or by creating [email protected] accounts in MS Outlook.
===> Is there any way to do it?
===> can [email protected] account be created in MS Outlook?
In another post about domain migration, you suggested:
If you want to stop using the old domain, and make the new domain your "default domain", that's a little harder. It involves several steps:
    1. changing all the mail addresses.
    2. changing the "default domain" settings everywhere.
===> I wonder, how to do it? is there any command? ldapmodify?
as an alternative approach, if we decide to change our email addresses to [email protected] first,
===> will emails sending to either [email protected] or [email protected] arrive at users who are still in the lab.D.com, if I only change all the mail addresses' domian part to aaa.com since I have added domain alias aaa.com?
and, I do not think sending emails from [email protected] to the internet would be a problem, right???
The iMS we use is iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 (built Feb 21 2002), Directory Server is 4.16 which are very old versions :(
    Thanks.

I make no claim to be a programmer, nor am I expert
    with ldap commands.
I know of no easy way to change all, other than
export to ldif, and use a global change with a text
editor, and then re-import.So, db2ldif -> change in text editor -> ldif2db, right?
Another question here is about Direct LDAP.
    I enabled Direct LDAP.
aaa.com is the domain alias to lab.oldD.com (our old domain).
I also have changed user alas' email addresss from alas@ lab.oldD.com to [email protected] and added mailAlternateaddress for alas as [email protected], as you instructed in previous posts.
However, whenever I click "send" either to aaa.com or lab.oldD.com, it shows errors, for examples, - "Returning unknown or illegal alias: [email protected]", "Returning unknown or illegal alias: [email protected]"
    The log shows:

  • Domain Alias approch - Best Practice Request

    Hello,
I am managing a company that has many domains. We have been using standard sendmail for mail server.
I have set it up through relay-domains etc... such that a user can get mail at any of the listed domains (there are 76 of them!). So, if I have jdoe mail will route to that user if you send mail to [email protected], [email protected] etc... all 76 of them.
My question is how to best replicate this functionallity with minimal (one time?) administration in msgsrvr... imta.cnf? some other means?
    Thanks for reading...
    Mike

Mike, this question looks very much like the one that's been getting discussion in the ims-info forum. Please understand, I read that forum, daily. . .
The advise you get there should be considered totally authoratative.
Domain Alias is indeed the correct way to have our Messaging Server handle this task for you.

  • Domain alias in iMS 5.2

    Hi,
Objective: The Users of Domain abc.com want that mails can be sent to them at xyz.com domain too.
Methods: flat alias file (not recommended)
vanity Domains ( fit for small no of users only)
    Domain Alias ( recommended)
    Discussion:
I created a Domain alias for abc.com to be xyz.com
    ldif used
    =======
    dn: dc=xyz,dc=com,o=internet
    objectclass: alias
    objectclass: inetDomainAlias
    aliasedObjectName: dc=abc,dc=com,o=internet
    dc: xyz.com
    ldapmodify -a -D "cn=Directory manager" -w mypassword -f aboveldiffile
My option.dat has entries for aliasurl and alias magic
Now I try to login using user@xyz : success
I try to send mail to user@xyz instead of [email protected]: failure
What happens ..in directpry access logs:
dc root is checked for xyz domain ...on finding ...the search base is adjusted to abc.com....
But now the e-mail address searched for is [email protected]..in domain abc ...which is not set ...
SO I DEFINE ALTERNATEMAILADDRESS ATTRIBUTE FOR DOMAIN USERS ABC.COM
    so that search matches...
    Now things work fine ....
I also check some postings here on the sunbject ....
where JAY suggests to use DOMAIL_LEVEL = 2 in option.dat file..
I delete mailalternateaddresses ...for users add DOMAIN_UPLEVEL=2...
now sendinf mail addressed at [email protected] suceeds....
Looing at ldap access logs I find ...that the search is directly started at abc.com ???
and the mails searched for are [email protected] aswell as [email protected] ...
So my concern is WHAT DOES DOMAIN_LEVEL actually DO????
    Thanks

  • Help Setting Up 2nd Mail Server

I am running Mac OS 10.4 server. I have several web sites running on this server but only one of the domains currently has a mail server. I use Server Admin & Workgroup Manager to administor as I am not very unix savvy.
Here is what I have done so far.
Created the domain: m2venturepartners.com in the web:sites section
Created the Web Server Alias mail.m2venturepartners.com under the Web:Site:Aliases section
Since the DNS and website is hosted elsewhere I had them create the MX record that points to mail.m2venturepartners.com and a DNS record that points mail.m2venturepartners.com to 209.233.105.38 the ip address for my server.
I created mail users with the workgroup manager enabling mail and adding the mail server: mail.m2venturepartners.com
At this point I set up a user client and successfully logged into both the imap & smtp servers. But when I send an email to a [email protected] it comes back with the following failure notice:
Hi. This is the qmail-send program at yahoo.com.

    X-Mailer: Apple Mail (2.752.3)
I'm lost as to what to do under the Mail section of Server Admin. Because this section was filled in when I set up my original domain (theteelfamily.com) and I can't figure out how to add additional domains.
Can someone help me get this 2nd mail server up receiving mail?
    Thanks

I am having the same sort of problems as you - and I have not been able to resolve my problems as yet. The document which was referred to earlier might be helpful, but I have not been able to get this to work, and Apple don't seem to offer any real Postfix support. I can get outgoing mail to work but incoming mail is always rejected for one reason or another (550 nu such mailbox is the usual problem).

  • How to set-up voice mail to email on Unity Connection 8.6

    Hi all,
I need to set-up voice mail to email notification on a Unity Connection 8.6 MCS78XX server.  I've read several existing threads related to the subject, but have had somewhat of a difficult time finding a posting that provided a simplified approach with either or both of the options listed below.  I'm hoping and asking to receive a response (or responses) that will break it down.
    The intent is to either:
     A) Have new voice mail messages sent to end-user's e-mail inboxes as .wav files.
     B) Have notifications be e-mailed to end-user's inboxes whenever there is a new voice mail.
Cisco Unity Single Inbox is not the preferred method at this point.
I thank you all for your input and assistance!

Manish, if I may... I read the 2nd thread and it mentions the addition of the Exchange IP address under the smart host field... and it appears that the Exchange will also need the IP address of the Unity Connection server for relay...
question: under the Unity SMTP config options --> Server --> SMTP Domain --> can/should this be changed over to the Unity's IP address in an environment where the Unity Server's name is not resolvable?  The Unity Server in this case is not configured with DNS...  please advise
    Thank you again!

  • Setting up a mail server on a 2010 MacMini Server

    Hi,
I am having great difficulty in setting up my Mail server on my 2010 MM server.   Setup is as follows:
    1.  Domain name hosted by dyndns.org with mail forwarding setup to forward incoming mail to my mail address <[email protected]>
    2.  Outgoing mail is being sent from the server via my local ISP using their relay server
    3.  Mail Server settings in Server app shown as "Provide mail for: mail.domainname.org"
    4.  Authentication set to: "Relay outgoing mail through ISP"
    5.  dyndns.com confirm that the domain host side is set up correctly.
    6.  Local ISP confirms that local relay service is set up correctly.
Problem is Mail account cannot be activated in Apple Mail.    email setup details in my server Mail app are as follows:
         Account Type:    POP
         Email address:   [email protected]
         Full Name:         my name
         Incoming Mail Server:   mail.domainname.org
          User Name:      admin
Password:        password on the dynsdyn.com srever
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):   Local ISP providers mail relay service
Has anyone any idea where this setup is wrong?   Also, I am unable to find a server manual for OSX 10.8.4 server.  Does anyone know where I can get this?
Any help you can give is most appreciated.
    Thank in advance
    Roger

    Hi Linc,
For the email address on the server, I create the account in my Apple mail in the normal way.  I fill in the details shown on the accounts setup panel as shown in my original post above. I then click on the "Enable this account" button but it does not connect to anywhere.
For the Server setup, this is also described in points 3. and 4. above.
The result is that the server seems to be setup properly but this may not be the case, which is why I asked my questions.
Sorry I cannot be more explicit but if you are willing to ask deeper questions that might point to the problem, I would be more that delighted to supply the answers if I can.

  • Change of Mail Domain in SJS Messaging Server 2004Q2

    Hi,
I've installed the SJS Messaging Server 2004Q2 with LDAP Schema 2 and a domain name abc.com. How can I change the domain name to xyz.net without any user migration and mail migration. Should I use thing like domain alias to other to achieve this task.
    Clive

What I really want to do is that users are previously using abc.com as mail address and webmail and then switch to xyz.net in both mail address and webmail but still can receive mail using abc.com. Moreover I don't want to change the DIT and add a new organization in my ldap server
Adding domain alias, I think I should use associatedDomain attribute. But, what is the meaning of change every reference to abc.com in ldap to xyz.net. Is it means changing the value of attributes in every mail user entry?

  • Dns setting require for mail server 2013

    Hello Support,
I have install exchange server 2013 and working fine but right now i have some change in DNS server record and my mail services stop. what record add to start my mail services ( sent and received). till now exchange server mail box give the error mail not
connected with server. Please revered ASAP.

couple of things to notice. if you saying your exchange services stopped... this wont happen because of DNS or are you saying you exchange is not working/mail flow.
now i would suggest to quickly check the mail services. run a test for inbound and outbound at exrca.com there you will have the proper answer that what you have missed.
and at last.. for DNS.. you need MX and A record for your email server for basic functioning .. and for autodiscover couple of more. lets verify the MX and A record first and then verify the send and receive connector. to verify MX do a Nslookup as below
    >cmd
    >nsloookup   {This should resolve to your local DNS if you running this from exchange server, which is recommended and should not time out}
    >set type=mx
    > your-domain.com {This should result "A" record / FQDN of your mail server}
    > set type=A {To verify the above FQDN should point to right IP}
    > mail.your-domain.com [assuming that in MX output you got mail-your-domain.com]
    > 1.1.1.1  [IP of your email server]
if you are able to verify above then your chances are you dont have issue with DNS.
Make sure from oursite you are able to telnet t tour exchange server on port 25 and from inside you are able to resolve names from your exchange server and also have internet access.if you able to verify till this point then its the turn now to verify send
and receive connector. one easy way is exrca.com and then share the results.
to verify if your exchange is configured properly please follow this link.

  • Adding an a domain alias

    Dear All,
Would anyone please point me how can I add a domain alias for my existing domain...
let's suppose my existing domain has the following dn
    dn: o=company.com,dc=company,dc=com
my new alias should be in the form
    o=com-pany.net,dc=company,dc=com
I am using messaging server 6.3 and DSEE 6.3
    Thanks,

let's suppose my existing domain has the following dn
dn: o=company.com,dc=company,dc=comIf you are using schema 2 then domain 'aliases' are set with the associatedDomain attribute.
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4428/bgahk?a=view
So to add an "alias" domain you add the appropriate associatedDomain e.g.
    dn: o=company.com,dc=company,dc=com
    associatedDomain: com-pany.netRegards,

  • Virtual mail domain and POP problem

    Hi all,
I am currently on my 7th or 8th install of 10.5 server, so far without managing to make a working mailsetup with virtual domains and virtual users. That is, it works when my customers use an IMAP-client (or webmail via squirrelmail), but it doesn't work when using a POP-client. I have yet to discover the cause of my problems, as the server-logs show perfectly good logins – but unfortunately nothing gets downloaded to the client.
I currently host 15 domains, which until my purchase of 10.5 server were hosted on a computer running 10.4 client-version with dovecot as mailserver, a custom DNS-setup and various custominstalled supporting apps. On the old client, everything was running smoothly (albeit slowly, due to the old hardware), but as I have stated, on my new server I can't get POP-access to work.
When I do a fresh install of 10.5 server, I can log in to the accounts on the primary domain with either POP3 or IMAP, but as soon as I set up a virtual domain, POP-access to all accounts ceases to function.
I suspect Cyrus configuration to be the main culprit, since everything else seems to work as expected, but having no previous experience with cyrus, I have yet to find a solution.
If anyone has any pointers to a good source of cyrus-IMAP knowledge, I would be very grateful for any help.
    /Lars

    Hi Alex,
This is really strange, and it's also really bugging me!
I use OD. If I add several shortnames to a user, fqn and not-fqn, I can only log in with the first shortname and any of the fqn-names. However, only the login using the first shortname recieves any mail.
I dont know if you have any explanation as to why my setup doesn't include a /etc/postfix/virtual file or a virtualaliasmaps statement in main.cf, which is the only difference in my system that I registered compared to your guide.
This is some lines from mailaccess.log when logging in to an account using Outlook Express in XP (user info masked):

I have to agree with you , I too was disappointed to see that with IOS 4 on my iphone I still cant send from an alias. This is a feature thats available with the .me web access so why not the iphone mail app? If they can't do it, then at least let me be able to use .me via safari on the iphone and ipad.

  • Domain alias problem

    Hi Jay and all,
we are running Sun Java messaging 2004Q4 on solaris 9.
We want to create a domain alias so that our server can receive mails on different domain also.
Let's say we have already x.com and want y.com to be domain alias for it. So i ran this below script and it was successful
    ++++++
    echo dn: o=x.com,dc=x,dc=com >>/sbin/ldap99.txt
    echo changetype: modify >>/sbin/ldap99.txt
    echo add: associatedDomain >>/sbin/ldap99.txt
    echo associatedDomain: y.com >>/sbin/ldap99.txt
    cd /var/opt/mps/serverroot/shared/bin
    ./ldapmodify -D uid=admin,ou=people,o=x.com,dc=x,dc=com -w <admin-pass> -R -f /sbin/ldap99.txt
    ++++++++++++++
Now i suppose y.com has become an alias to x.com so that i can receive mails destined to [email protected] also and get them forwarded to the [email protected] mailbox (No need for user level aliasing again)
But when i say "telnet <mail-server> 25" and rcpt to:[email protected], it says "550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias: [email protected]".
it means that the vanity domain created successfully but not able to identify users already created on x.com (it did not throw the error - 550 5.7.1 Relaying not allowed: [email protected])
    Please advise me.
    TIA
    Prvn

    Hi,
Now i suppose y.com has become an alias to x.com so
that i can receive mails destined to [email protected] also
and get them forwarded to the [email protected] mailbox (No
need for user level aliasing again)You still need to add the user-level address attribute e.g.
    mailalternateaddress: [email protected]
Just adding the associatedDomain attribute doesn't automatically result in emails sent to [email protected] being delivered to the mailbox of [email protected]
But when i say "telnet <mail-server> 25" and rcpt
to:[email protected], it says "550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal
    alias: [email protected]".
Try adding the mailalternateaddress: [email protected] to the [email protected] account.
    Regards,
    Shane.
