Setting up a new site
Hi All -
I use Dreamweaver currently and I want to switch over to CFBuilder, but I can't get my server set up properly. I have network access to the drives on the server where the content lives. When I create a site in Dreamweaver, everything makes sense to me, but when I create a 'server' (I work on about 5 sites, all on the same server) I get confused by 'host name', 'context root', 'application server name'. Is there some documentation somewhere that tells me what to do?
I guess I should also note that we are on CF8.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob
Hi Bhakti,
Long time no speak!
I recently re-installed our internal testing server to run as CF8 Multiserver. I could never get the Standalone or even the ColdFusion 9 Beta to work properly with CF Builder.
I ran through the steps on your blog for the Multiserver install, and I ran into this error when running adminstart.bat.
"This application has failed to start because MSVCR71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."
Within the Command Prompt I see the following:
"Error loading: C:\JRun4\jre\bin\client\jvm.dll"
Why might this be? I just re-installed CF8 from scratch, so why would files be missing? I am currently running CF Builder Beta 2.
Thanks,
Jose

Setting up a New Site and Having Issues with Flash SWF's
Hello. I just set up a new site definition, with a testiing server using MAMP Pro, and everything seems to be functioning properly, except that my swf's are not showing up when you publish to a browser from dreamweaver, instead you get the place holder message to upgrade to the newest version of flashplayer... besides the fact that my computers flash player is up to date. At this point in time my two other websites swf components work just fine when I publish out of dreamweaver.
I'd also like to mention that the Live View works perfectly and is displayinig the swf's as they should be.
Thanks!I copied the associated scripts over to the site folder on the testing server and I'm getting the same results. I'm sure this is something that is really simple. The site files are on our server and I can still access them. I was not the one who installed and set up Dreamweaver initially and don't know very much about the program Just enough to manage our simple site and keep it updated. Just need help setting it up so that it's back to managing our website.
Go to Site > New Site and define your site. See screenshots:
Servers: Enter your FTP log-in credentials and remote server's root directory. If unsure, check with your hosting provider for details.
Click on TEST button. If you're unable to connect, click the More Options triangle.

What do I do it has never happened to me befor
You need to set up a site definition before you can use DW...
http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-dreamweaver-cs5/gs01-defining-a-new-site/
Without that critical first step, as you've seen, the program gets a little cranky with you.
Here's a print version specifically for DWCS3...

I have been forced to set up a new site because of
reinstalling
Windows XP. That's another story.
I have set up the site. Used the "Test Connection" and
received the
message that it was successful.
From a past problem I selected "Passive FTP".
I have access to the site through WS_FTP so I know that my
password is
correct.
DW gives the error message:
"FTP error occurred - Cannot get remote folder information.
Access
denied. the file may not exist or there could be a permission
probe
lm"
I have rechecked the "Test Connection" and once again it was
successful.
What have I missed?
Thanks,

I'm new to Dreamweaver and have spent a few days with the
online video and other tutorials. I'm having trouble with John
Vares' tutorial for setting up a new site. The instructions direct
the user to work with the Site Manager. I follow all the
instructions and the site is properly created. But my site does not
include all the folders shown in FIG 2 of John's sample site:
NEW
SITE TUTORIAL
Is the Site Manager supposed to generate a standard set of
file folders and necessary files for a new site or do we include
those manually? If manually are there "best practices" or "industry
standards" for setting up the site folder structure?> Is the Site Manager supposed to generate a standard set
of file folders and
> necessary files for a new site or do we include those
manually?
No. you create the files yourself.
BUT- in the case of that tutorial, there is a link at the
start of it for a
zipped set of practice files.
Sample files:
* cafe_townsend_cs3.zip (ZIP, 2.1MB)
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/developer/cafe_townsend_cs3.zip
unzip that file inside of the "local site folder" you've
created, then
follow the tutorial.

Virtual Host, new site not working.
OK I'm fairly techie (I write IOS/MacOS apps for a living), I just don't do web technologies. I have SL Server on my iMac running several sites prefectly on one IP.
example.com
webmail.example.com
somethingelse.com
I set up a new site thru Server Admin (clients.example.com). I keep getting "Safari can't find server."
The other sites work beautifully, my DNS settings are ok (checked via "changeip -checkhostname").
I even deleted the client site and copied webmail.example.com since that site works. I did everything I can think of (yes I checked the aliases, general system/site folder permissions, and rebooted several times). Can I only do three sites?
I really just need a list of things to try, most of the setups involve terminal and client Mac OS. It's the same, but since I created all the other sites with Server Admin, clients.example.com should be the same.If the HTTP requests were getting to the server, the server would answer them (maybe with an inappropriate virtual site, but it'd respond). The "Safari can't find server" error indicates that the client isn't able to contact the server, i.e. a DNS, network connectivity, wrong port etc problem. In this case, since your other virtual sites are reachable, it's probably a DNS issue. "changeip -checkhostname" validates the reverse lookup of the server's primary IP address against its hostname, which isn't what you need to check here. You need to do a forward lookup of clients.example.com and make sure it resolves to the server's IP address. "host clients.example.com" is my favorite for this, although "dig clients.example.com" would give somewhat more detail.

I am trying to set up my new iPad 2 and to begin I installed iTunes on my laptop and connected the iPad to the USB port. Neither Windows or iTunes recognizes the device. I did everything this site told me to try and still no luck. Help!
You will not be able to see what version you are running until the iPad is activated. It will be in Settings>General>About >Version when you can get to the settings app.
The slider bar that you are describing sounds like the screen lock side switch and that has no bearing on setting up the iPad or connecting to WiFi.
Why don't you try rebooting your router? Unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again and see if the iPad will recognize and join the network. -
I am trying to set up app tabs, but when I am using one, if I go to a new site from there, the app tab changes to the new site instead of opening in a new tab, then the app tab changes to the new site. i.e. The app tabs don't stay constant. This occurs while still in Firefox, and does not relate to when I close it. Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks
If you backed up the iPhone to either iTunes or the iCloud, restore the backup. If not, the data is gone.
