Setting up a Wireless laptop to the Linksys router wrt310n

I was able to set up my PC to the router with no problems, the advisor sees my desktop, printers, it will only see my wireless laptop only if it is hard wired, it does not see the laptop when it is wireless.  I have tried the faq's and still no results. Do I have to install the easy advisor on the laptop.

Check the wireless settings on the router....
Change the Wireless Channel from Auto to 40 Mhz
Radio Band -- 6 &
Standard channel to 8 ...
Click on Advanced Wireless
settings>>Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation
Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings" ....

  • EA6300 - Cascading the Linksys router to another router (LAN-LAN) - Does not Bridge built in Wifi AP

    http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=3733#
Cascading the Linksys router to another router (LAN-LAN)
The Bridge mode function on the EA6300 does not bridge the Wifi AP radio to the network.
The ethernet ports are bridged, and the router can see network devices and wifi devices connected to itand ping devices in both directions , but Wifi clients connecting to the unit running in bridge mode are not "bridged" to the network.
    ~
Using the built in webpage of the router, all devices can be pinged.
Ethernet RJ-45 devices plugged into it can ping the unit and pull up the units config webpage, but not ping wifi clients connected to it.
Wfii devices connected to its access point radio, can pull up the units config webpage, but not ping ethernet RJ-45 devices connected to it.
If there is a bridge, then the bridge is broken in half and not functional.
    ~
All devices are set with IPs on the same subnet,  192.168.2.x
    ~
I have a Netgear router in Bridge mode, and it works fine, connecting the wifi access point and RJ-45 ethernet clients together like it should be, so I know how Bridge mode... should work...
But it doesn't on this unit, it is not working completely out the factory door.   It will bridge one Router to another via the RJ-45 ethernet ports, but its own AP radio is no longer bridged and connected (like when running in NAT
Note that doing cascading  using NAT as described under "Cascading the Linksys router to another router (LAN-WAN)" works fine.

    Hi,
There's no WLAN bridge feature on the new Linksys Smart Wifi routers. You might also like to check and review these articles about Bridge Mode:

  • Befw11s4 - setting up 2nd wireless laptop

I have two wireless laptops to set up on my network.  The first laptop I was able to set up by changing the WEP address as instructed in the linksys tech support page.  The 2nd laptop is giving me trouble.  I wasn't sure if I needed to give this laptop a new WEP address or not, so I did.  The 2nd laptop now has limited connectivity.  I tried using the first laptop's WEP address for the 2nd laptop - but same thing - limited connectivity.
Can someone tell me how to get the 2nd laptop connected?

    Hi Roxy...
access your router set-up page and follow this
    just follow this..
    http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4055&p_sid=6iYl4KEi&...=#
use only one wep key is needed because that will serve as the restriction of your router for other people who wants to get online wirelessly ( in short like a thief)...

  • Wireless laptops in the domain disconnect and try to re-authenticate

    Hi,
I have a wireless setup that is using WLSM in a 6500 switch which is also acting as WDS.
The problem that am encountering is that wireless laptops that are not in the domain are working
perfectly without any issues, they can roam without dropping the wireless LAN connection while
laptops that are joined in the domain are dropping the wireless connection and get stuck while trying
    to re-authenticate.
Your help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sidi

    Sidi,
Just a stab in the dark here, but maybe your group policies are effecting your laptops local firewall and blocking something on the WiFi card which cuases them to get bumped off the WiFi.
Connect those laptops hard wired to the domainand force an update using gpupdate /force, after all is done and logged out with group policy, then try the WiFi connection again.
    Hope this helps...

  • Cascading the Linksys router to another router (LAN-LAN)

My current set is LAN-LAN asame like on this link...http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/GetArticle.aspx?docid=785463d9ecaf4cac84aed245b08d615f_3733.xml
my "main" router is set as DHCP server only and wireless is disabled on it. This router is in the basement.
my "secondary" router is in living room.....DHCP is disabled on this router and this routers beams provided wireless for the house in 2.4 and 5 Ghz...lets call 2.4 SSID   "Network 2" and 5 we call "Netowrk 5".  Wireless coverage is really good in all of the house except basement. I would like to make it better in the basement as well.
In this current set up what could i do to make it better. Since "main" router is not beaming wireless should I add another "third" router?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It should pick the strongest one of either the 2.4Ghz SSID or the 5Ghz SSID but only in the case were both router's have the same SSID for the 2.4Ghz and the same SSID for the 5Ghz. (Remember have separate SSID's for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz signals)
It can be confusing so here's an example:
    Main router:
    2.4 Ghz SSID: myhouse
    5Ghz SSID: myhouse_5gz
    Linksys router:
    2.4 Ghz SSID: myhouse
    5Ghz SSID: myhouse_5gz
As a wireless client moves around the location it will switch to the strongest signal for the SSID it last connected to.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • Best Wireless Security Settings-WRT54G Linksys Router

I've been running into problems attempting to set the wireless security settings for my router and then trying to connect to the internet from my iBook. As long as I enable SSID broadcasting I can find my router but the problem starts when I enable the security settings. The iBook will then ask for the password and nothing I've inserted works??? I'm at a loss. I've given up, those sorts of brickwalls can do a number on your head--major headache this weekend..so I will try again tomorrow. I thought the passphrase is your password--the only thing that I haven't tried (after searching the forums here) is putting the $ in front. Does anyone have this particular router that can give me some suggestions (in basic, simple terms please) that can help me get started on a good security setup so that I won't be scared someone in the neighborhood (as I've read previously) is scanning and can log onto my internet connection. Thanks!
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Why in heaven would you want WEP to secure your network when you can have WPA which is more secure and doesn't have this kind of problems???
With the right tools (available free on the net) you can crack almost any WEP protected network in less than a day (I have done this with my friends to prove them how weak WEP is).
So imagine you set your WEP protected network, a neighbor crack it and use it, all of this while you CAN'T use your own network.
You should try WPA, good luck...
BTW: I have the same router, with WPA and SSID broadcast disabled.

  • WOW is very slow when using the linksys router

If I connect directly into my cable modem I and run and play WOW with no problem, if I connect back the wireless router the proformance is very slow and can't see the characters sometimes. Is there a setting to turn off or lower the filters?
    I have the 54GS

You may need to forward ports in order to make it work properly. This http://portforward.com/cportsnotes/battlenet/wow.htm would be a help.

  • Newbie question about setting up a wireless USB device as a router.

Hi. I have this Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector, which used to be very useful for getting my DS and Wii online (I don't have a wireless router.)
By using some modified drivers from Buffalo I think, I eventually manage to install it as an ordinary wireless device and later set it up as an all-purpose wi-fi router device. I want to do exactly this in Arch if possible.
As far as I know, there are no real drivers for this device, but I tried some, and got stuck later on.
I basically want to simply be able to use my laptop, PS3, Wii and DS on it. Nothing fancy, and no encryption, as I only use it when necessary.
After plugging the device in the USB, I ran
    $ hwdetect --show-net
    NET : forcedeth ppp_generic slhc mac80211 rfkill rt2500usb rt2x00lib rt2x00usb cfg80211
I looked like it's was quite ordinary actually. So I tried modprobing rt2500usb (should I modprobe the 2 others too?).
Surprise, surprise! I haven't edited my /etc/rc.conf at all yet.
    $ iwconfig
    lo no wireless extensions.
    eth0 no wireless extensions.
    wmaster0 no wireless extensions.
    wlan0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:""
    Mode:Managed Channel:0 Access Point: Not-Associated

    Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
    Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
Well, at least it detected my wlan. I haven't been able to test if I can actually get online with this thing as there is no network to try on around here.
So, where do I go from here? The KISS way, if you know what I mean, hehehe
    - Thanks in advance.

Thank you. Got a bit further, but probably not in the right direction  : [
Figured out that the WFC uses the rt2570 chipset (according to wikipedia), which I downloaded from the link you gave. Installed it, and had to blacklist the other ralink-modules that were present for it to work.
Now, my iwconfig looks like this:
    lo no wireless extensions.
    eth0 no wireless extensions.
    rausb0 RT2500USB WLAN ESSID:"" Nickname:""
    Mode:Monitor Frequency=2.412 GHz Bit Rate=11 Mb/s

Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
    Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
    Well, it apperaently did something.
By looking at the lsmod it only shows up the rt2570.
Well, sudo iwconfig rausb0 mode master returns the same error I had ... :[
Does this mean I'm screwed? xD
EDIT: The forums on that site suggested that the master mode was disabled in the legacy drivers (and the other drivers for that matter) :[
Well, dual boot here we go

  • Can I set up two wireless security networks on my router?

I have read the earlier post that was similar, but I have a different router. I have a WRT160Nv3. I have set up WPA2 security and it works great. My son is upset because he can no longer access the WiFi with his DS. He has several games that allow him to play with others online. The DS games use only unsecured or WEP, anything stronger and they don't work. Is there anyway to open one port for the DS?

No. Either you use WEP security and have the high risk that your wireless network is quickly cracked or you stick with the secure WPA2. In the latter case your son should get a new DSi which supports WPA2 security.

  • I cannot get wireless security setup via Linksys router web page

Help.  I'm trying to reset my router.  I've gottne through everything and all is setup and working but now I cannot setup the wireless security.  I'm go to Wireless>Wireless Security, when trying to choose security mode I can select it, the page refreshes, but just goes back to 'Disabled'.  I can't get pat this, I get nothing.  Is my router fried and it just won't allow me to setup security?  I've tried everything.  I'm on a Mac, but dont believe that should make a difference.  Is there another setting somewhere?  I did change my password and name of the router, but that's all the farther I got.  I've followed all of the steps and get stuck on the page and drop down.  Driving me nuts!

I opened in Firefox and was actually able to choose WPA, the settings opened up and then the page locked up, refresh took me back to 'disabled'.  Reopened in a new window, opened up again, entered the WPA shared key and after spinning for over 5 minutes, lost my connection and had to log in to join my now secure network...finally!!!!!!  Thank you.

  • Unablr to connect when using the Linksys router

I'm using the WRT54Gx2, version 2 router and have configured it per the directions and with a computer directly connected and logged into the router it connects to SBCglobal just fine.  When I try to connect to the internet with the computer (not a wireless connection) it will not connect.  I'm using a new computer running vista - if that makes a difference.  I also tried connecting using another computer running xp and it will not connect.
    Any suggestions?

If it's a speedstream or westell modem, you'll need to change the router's address. Do you need to click an SBC icon or enter a username/password to get online on the modem or is it automatic?
The box said windows xp or better... So I installed Linux!
