Setting Up a WRT54GS Inside a Firewalled Network

Hi hi!
Aaargh!! I hate these little things sometimes.
I'm the IT Director for a small refining company. I'm running a Windows 2000 network workgroup. We're behind a Watchguard Firebox, so I use static IPs to access the outside world.
A standard hard wired PC set up would look like this:
IP: 192.168.1.xxx (xxx=100-199)
Subet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.1.2
DNS: 216.99.225.30
I'm now hooking up a WRT54GS to one of our inside ports so that a new notebook PC can be use a wireless connection.
Maybe I have it figured wrong, but it seems I should be able to set a Static IP for the 54GS, using the settings listed above, then allow for DHCP so the notebook - also using DHCP can access the router, which in turn accesses the company LAN and the Internet. If not that, I can also go Static IP between the router and notebook. (I only use about 25 IP addresses, so I have plenty of room.)
When I try to set the Static IP for the router under the Internet Connection Type on the Basic Setup screen, I get the vague error:
"The WAN IP address is same with the LAN IP address! Please check them again!"
This tells me almost nothing. (Yes, the wording is weird.) It's referring to the Internet IP Address field on the Basic Setup screen, but any IP address using 192.168.1.xxx returns the same dialogue window.
I spent a couple hours with Linksys tech in India, trying to get it solved, but to no avail. About all I learned from THAT was the router really hates being readdressed to 192.168.2.1 because once it has been, the setup screen can NOT be accessed again.
Please advise. I have five sons at home, so I don't really NEED this added aggravation.
Thanks!

I have Dg834v2 as well which is a pain the neck with my macs, passwords and encryption methods are not remembered for more than a day or two by either of my os x laptops. Constantly interfered with by another Netgear router on the same street despite almost daily channel changes. ugh...
The only way I can get any stability at present is to disable all security in the Netgear and only allow the specific mac addresses of each laptop to connect. No idea if this secure and crazy though it is my Powerbook behaves far better as the only mac on the school windows wireless network than at home in a mac only environment !
Good luck with it!

  • Connecting ASA from inside of the network

The LAN has 10.10.10.0/24 ip pool and ASA has 10.10.11.0/24 pool. When i connect to the ASA from the inside of the network , i can't get to any node in the network but i can when i am outside of the network. I need to connect to all nodes even when I am inside of the network connecting to ASA. please advise.

    John,
Understand now, Hmmm.. indeed strange, this is what we could do to try isolating the problem and try confirming some local connectivity.
since 10.10.10.0/24 is routed through the ASA firewall 10.10.10.254 as all hosts default gateway load your asdm real time log and note traffic while trying to ping from user labtop to any other hosts on the same 10.10.10.0/24 segment, I am sure you have probably checked but from the users labtop have you verify machine is getting proper 10.10.10.x address with correct mask and DG given from ASA DHCP, if ASA is your inside DHCP server go to ASA command lline and issue.
asa#show dhcpd binding - to confirm hosts IP assigement is there for
try pinging from the ASA itself towards that particular users 10.10.10.X address to confirm local connectivity from asa to labtop.
Also from the labtop take note of complete output of ipconfig : and note all its current adapter bindings .
    c:\ipconfig /all
It seems this could be more of a settings issues on the machines but confirm above.
Also what ASA code version ? show ver
and what version os VPN client ?

How I can set up the DynDns inside the Time capsule, or only with the Time capsule I have external access from a PC for ex.?

MobileMe service is finished.. to get remote access to the Mac or TC you use iCloud account.. but that is for files.. not to access web cams.
Without dyndns client in the TC, you can perhaps run dyndns on the computer or video recorder..many of these will have clients built into them.
Even better get a static Public IP from your ISP.. that is the correct professional way to do it.
Or you can use whatever broadband modem you have and remove the TC as the main router.. simply bridge it. Use your adsl router for connection. Almost all adsl have built in dyndns.
Sorry your language is very hard to follow.. and I am sure you are finding my answers similarly difficult.
Basically the TC is about the hardest device to setup because it is lacking important networking functions.
Get a vpn router and use vpn connection is far superior to any other method. But you cannot do it with TC.

  • How set up my wrt54g v6 as access point

Hi i want to set up my wrt54g v6 to get wireless signal from my wrt54gx2 router 100 feet away. thanks.

Your WRT54G is not designed to do this, at least not with Linksys firmware.  Perhaps you can find some 3rd party firmware to do this, however, if you load 3rd party firmware, it will void your Linksys warranty.
Most Linksys routers are designed to generate a wireless network, not connect to an existing wireless network.

  • WRT54G & XBOX 360 Wireless Networking Adapter-Router doesn't see my SSID

I purchased a XBOX 360 networking adapter yesterday.  I hooked it up and serched for networks and it doesn't see my SSID through the linksys router.  Before I purchased the 360 adapter, I could hard hook it to the router and it worked fine.  I called 360 and they suggested that I open my MAC on the Linksys Router so that it would recognize it, but I do not know how to do that.  I know how to get into 192.168.1.1, but don't want to do anything crazy.  Please advise. I'm not a novice, but not an advanced router owner.  Thanks,
    WRT54G v.8

SSID Broadcast should be Enabled on your router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab-
Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...SSID Broadcast should be Enabled...Check what is your SSID(change the SSID if it is Linksys)...Click Save Settings if you have changed anything...
Click on the subtab Wireless Security, if the Security Mode is WPA/WPA2 change it to WEP, if it is WEP take not of Key1(this is your wireless security)...
    X-Box Setting :
    1. Connect the appropriate wireless network adapter to the console. On the Xbox, a Wi-Fi adapter that connects to the Ethernet port (sometimes also called a wireless network bridge) must be used. Alternatively, the Xbox 360 is also designed to work with certain Wi-Fi game adapters that connect to a USB port.
    2. Turn on the console and navigate to the wireless settings screen. On the Xbox, the menu path is "Settings -> Network Settings -> Advanced -> Wireless -> Settings" On the Xbox 360, the menu path is "System -> Network Settings -> Edit Settings."
    3. Set the SSID (network name) on the Xbox to match that of the wireless router. If your wireless router has enabled SSID broadcast, the SSID name should appear pre-selected on the Xbox display. Otherwise, select the "Specify Unlisted Network" option and enter the SSID there.
    4. Specify "Infrastructure" as the Network Mode. (Infrastructure is the mode used by wireless routers.)
    5. Set the Security Type to match that of the wireless router. If your router uses WPA encryption and the type of adapter connected to the Xbox does not support WPA, you will need to change your router settings to use WEP encryption instead.
Note that the standard Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Network Adapter supports WPA while the standard Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740) only supports WEP.
    6. Save your settings and verify the network is functional.
On the Xbox, the Wireless Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made with the wireless router, and the Connect Status screen displays whether a connection has successfully been made through the Internet to Xbox Live.
On the Xbox 360, use the "Test Xbox Live Connection" option instead.

  • How to set up Time Capsule as an additional network

I have the 1 TB Time Capsule and I set it up as "creating a wireless network". It is connected via Ethernet to my linksys router. How do I set it up so that I have two wi-fi networks running? Options are a) join a wireless network b) connect to a network using Ethernet to extend the network or create a second network.

When you say faster speed, are you taking about using the 802.11n 5GHz protocols?
If that is the case, then you arrange for the TimeCapsule to join the existing network, and configure it to "Bridge" the ethernet to WiFi.
My assumption is that the other WiFi is 802.11g, so leave that one alone.
Back on the TimeCapsule, you configure it so it using 5GHz frequences ONLY.
You configure TC so it has its own SSID (network name).
Now Macs (or other systems) that are 802.11n WiFi capable can connect to the TC network name (SSID), and your older 802.11g devices can use the other WiFi base station.
If the TimeCapsule is a dual radio system, then you can configure the 2.4GHz radio so that it uses the same SSID and password as your existing WiFi base station, only have it use a different channel (you do not what the original and the TC 802.11g radio fighting over the same channel. Channels 1, 6, and 11 are best, but if you have conflicts with neighbors, try for something that doesn't conflict and is 5 or more channels away from your other 802.11g base station.

  • How do to set up time limits on a guest network

I have a new generation Airport Time Capsule and I have set up a Guest Network for my kids but I would like to set up time limits on the Guest Network also, is there a way to do it?

It is not possible to set up specific time limits for the Guest Network as a whole, but it is possible to set up individual time limits for each device that will be connecting to the Guest Network.....and, also the main network for that matter.
If you can provide us with some more specifics on what you are trying to accomplish, how many devices will be involved, etc.......that will help us craft our answer to provide accurate information.
Meanwhile, if you want to take a look at the general settings in Timed Access....

  • Major problems setting up a WRT54G as it keeps asking me for a Passphrase i do not know...

During the course of setting up a WRT54G, it is now asking me for a Passphrase before it will connect wireless to my notebook....  In other words, my notebook detected it and wants a Passphrase to allow the connection. It is like 16 characters long... I have no idea of what it could be. Is there any way to reset everything and start from scratch.
Also.... the pack in CD refused to reconize my two different computers Internet configurations.... One has XP, the other has Vista.
There is also a password box (which i never set a password to) poping up when i try to got to http://192.168.1.1

Well, I have a couple of suggestions for solving your password issue:
    A)with out reseting
    1) if you have an ethernet cable connected to you nic in your laptop,
    2) type in your router address in your window
    3) login as the user:admin, password; admin to your router
    4) go to wireless security pick a pass phrase you want to use as your encrypted code that you will use for your laptops wireless connection, click generate.(You should get 4 varaitions of it use one, make sure you pick 64 bit or 128 bit encryption most likely the 128.CTRL-C the chosen encryption.
    5) Reconnect wirelessly to your router, Ctrl-v in the passphrase box and login.
B)If nothin of that works reset your router and follow the steps again.

  • HELP: How do I set up an external hard through Wireless Network?

I just bought a Western Digital Hard Drive and I'm trying to set it up via my home wireless network, so multiple computers can send files to the hard drive. Can anyone help?
I see there was one thread earlier this month, but there wasn't a final answer to the question. I have tried allowing file sharing via Preferences and then going to the other computer's Finder>Go>Connect to Network. I enter the afp and it doesn't work.
    Can someone help? Thanks.

Yes, until/unless she makes a New User, YOU, on her Computer, that's all you'll see for Security purposes... unless you logged onto Her Computer with Her Username & Her Password, then you'd see everything She does... and visa versa.
But Sharepoints will give better control.
Launch Sharepoints, click the Normal Shares Tab if it isn't already.
On the bottom gove this "Share" a name, click the Browse button and selt your new HD.
Click the AFS sharing ytthing and select "+", click Create New Share.
Click on the Users... Tab, fill in, click add new user.
Click back on the Normal Tab, highlight the Share's name, click on the "Show File Properties" button.
Select Her username and give the rights you wish.

Nope. You can always reverse that if you choose.

  • Setting the content type inside the ABAP mapping.

    Hello All,
Can any one help me by telling me how to set the content-type inside ABAP mapping. I have searched a large no of blogs and help.sap.com for the same.
My requirement is I want to change the MIME type of the Main Document in side SXMB_MONI so that can change the content type of Main document which is application\xml by default.
I would appreciate an early response regarding the same.

    Hello Raj,
The output of my ABAP mapping is a flat file. So when I try to open the file with content type application/xml in the message monitor it shows the file has some error which is natural. The way to get around this problem is change the content type to application\txt from application\xml.
I am not finding an option to set the content type inside the ABAP mapping for the same.

You need to set the option to create a mobile account using the Directory Utility app.

  • Set a container element inside class to exit a loop

    Hi,
I want to set a container element inside a class to exit a loop.
The element is marked as import/export parameter and the binding from the task to the container exists as well.
The loop has a condition  &finish& = X but I cannot exit the loop. Looks like the value gets never updated in the container.
When i am using a container operation to set the element its working but i want to do this out of my method in the class.
Is it not possible to change a container element inside a loop without using a container operation?
    Thanks,
    Christoph

    Hi,
Using the container operation is a good method to solve the problem. But if you intend to do that in the method coding itself then you will have to have it as the export parameter of the method. You can view all the import and export parameters of a method by going to the Business Object Builder (SWO1) and then choose the method and click on the "Parameters" Button. Once you are done with the interface of the method use that method in the workflow builder as a task and in the binding there are two rows. One for the import that occurs just below the container elements and the export parameters appear below the import in a separate window. Make sure you have the binding set there too as this is where you can transfer the container elements back to the workflow container from the task container and it should work. Maybe you are missing that in the binding.
    Hope it helps,
    Sudhi
