Setting up Acrobat 9 Pro in Windows 7

Old computer (XP) croaked, new computer has Windows 7.
I installed CS4 and am having trouble getting Acrobat to work. I can export from InDesign to PDF, but sometimes I need to print to PDF (e.g., when I need to generate color separations), which I can't do at all. I get the message "downloading procset" and ID locks up and I have to force quit. I've waited several minutes (using a simple one-page document with no photos or large graphics) and it won't respond.
I also can't figure out how to print to file -- I want to create a PS file so I can distill it. I know I need to install a PS "printer," but since my old PC is kaput, I don't know what PS printer was installed on it, and anyway it probably wouldn't work with Windows 7. I've got a Xerox color laser printer with real PS, and tried installing that driver to print to file, but either the driver doesn't work or I installed it wrong. (I haven't tried to install it as a real printer yet.)
Any suggestions?
TIA,
Marlene

Also, when you have it set up, just print to the Adobe PDF printer (it is a PS printer) and you should have the PDF created automatically  (AcroTray takes care of the Distiller part for automatic PDF creation). Do not change to print to print to file unless you do it for testing purposes.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro in Windows 7 w/ Autocad in XP Mode- not working

I'm running Autocad Arch Desktop (ADT) in Windows XP Mode within Windows 7, and have Adobe Acrobat Pro installed in Windows 7.  Unfortunately, no "Adobe PDF"  pulldown was created within ADT once Adobe Pro was installed, and there isn't any sign of Adobe in ADT (normally, Adobe automatically installs pulldowns within ADT once installed).  Adobe and ADT function normally otherwise.  Does anyone know how to get Adobe Acrobat Pro in Windows 7 to recognize and work with ADT in Windows XP Mode?

Can you tell me how to set the defaults to Courier 10pt font?  I tried select all and it's grayed out, but that was after the
fact.  Where are the original default presets?
    Thank you in advance.

I have adobe acrobat pro for windows and it is freezing up when I try to convert a word file to pdf... I have tried to get this done six ways from Sunday but it is just not working... help!  Chris.

It would be helpful to know what version of Acrobat, WORD, and operating system.
Without that info, I would suggest at this point to open your WORD file and then go to the print menu and print to file using the Adobe PDF printer. Open the created file in Distiller and see if you get a PDF. If so, check to see if AcroTray is running in the background.
You say you tried many ways. It would help to know what you tried and what worked or did not work, and at what point the failure occurs.

  • Cannot install Adobe Acrobat Pro on Windows XP

    Good day,
I cannot install Adobe Acrobat Pro on my windows XP machine with SP2 and the latest updates.
The error says that the software cannot be installed on the Operating system, please see minimum requirements. I meet all these but cannot install
I saw a similar question posted on the forums but it is unanswered.
    Please assist me.

    Hi,
This link has the minimum system requirements for Acrobat 10 Pro : Acrobat X Pro Tech Specs
On Windows XP, the minimum requirement is SP3 for 32 bit. I would recommend that you update to SP3 by running Windows Update and then reinstall the application.

  • Opening .msp.crdownload Acrobat Pro in Windows XP

    Hi
I am trying to open an update for Acrobat Pro 9. The file extension is .msp.crdownload and Windows XP doesn't open it. How can I open and install the update?
    Thanks.
    Nancy Pedem

I get a message to check for updates and it takes me to an Adobe download page (sorry I don't have the link right now).
I just ran the program and asked it to check for updates and I got a message back that none were available. I am using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.5.1.
I guess I will close this for now but I may be back if I keep getting the update que and so many glitches. Couldn't get program to work at all yesterday but today was able to use it. I had a power outage yesterday and maybe that did something to my whole system. I have cleaned things out.
Thanks for posting this in the correct place. I will stumble along for now. Can't afford newest version.

  • Passwords set in Acrobat Pro 8.0 are not accepted as valid

I have numerous files that I authored in Acrobat Pro 8.0 and secured with a password to access various functions. Both in my original files that I have maintained and were also sent to others and then renamed by the recipient, my previously established password is not accepted. I need to unprotect these files for further use. Any ideas on the problem? Each of these problem files were created with the problem password prior to installing the V8.25 update this year. Other  files that I have created since and password protected have no problem accepting the correct password.

    re: George Johnson
Thank you for the response. This process that we are looking to do is necessary. We have 400+ OLD PDF forms that currently are printed by our print shop and then manually filled out and scanned into our system. The current process requires a clinician to log into our scanning system, identify a patient chart, and then identify the type of report they are scanning in. This process is time consuming with possibility of errors (wrong chart selected, wrong form, etc.). Plus, we have to stock up to 400 forms at each location.
We don’t have the funds to convert 400+ complex forms into electronic submissions where the form fields are discrete and file accordingly. So, what we have come up with to save costs of a new system and reduce potential errors is to add a barcode to each existing form.
Basically, each form will get a barcode and a javascript function in the onload event to process and parse passed in link parameters.
So when a clinician clicks on a form link in our EMR system the form will load passing in the patient acct. number and form name into the link parameters (all on our local intranet) so it will get embedded into the barcode on the form. They will then print the form fill out the data (or have the patient fill it out) and then drop it in the scanner. Our scanning system will automatically see the barcode and file the form under the correct patient and form folder based on the barcode info. (A scanned image of the form will save to the patient profile).
Ultimately we would like to convert all of these forms to electronic signature/submission but we do not have the funds or the time to do this.

  • Combine PDF feature missing from right click option Acrobat Pro 9/Windows 7

I combine PDF's all day long and need this feature. I had it on my old computer and since moving over to the new computer I do not have the option to combine PDF's when right clicking on PDF documents. I have searched the forum and found other fixes, however none have worked, I have uninstalled and re-installed three times as well and no luck. Does anyone have any other ideas for fixes for this. I need this feature.....

Found this it worked for me :
http://acrobatusers.com/forum/pdf-creation/right-click-option-combine-supported-files-miss ing a known issue caused by the context menu handler not being registered (tends to result from patches and installs when Windows UAC is active).
    It's
From the Start menu, choose 'All Programs' > 'Accessories, and *right-click* on 'Command Prompt'Select 'Run as Administrator' and approve the UAC window (if one is displayed)
If you have 64-bit Windows, in the command window type the following and press Enter, including the quotes:
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat Elements\ContextMenu64.dll"
On 32-bit Windows, type this instead:
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat Elements\ContextMenu.dll"
You should see a message saying it was successful. Close the command prompt window, and your context menus should be back up and running. .

  • Acrobat Pro 7, Windows 7 and Office 2010. C: blocked by GPO. Designer application can not save. Ther

    Hello,
Please I need some help if possible. I just recently upgraded a user to Windows 7 with Office 2010 and reinstalled her Acrobat 7. We locked down c: thru GPO, and it seems this is causing an issue when she uses Designer. She and click save or save as all she wants but nothing happens. If I log in under admin (i can see c:) everything works fine, if possible could someone lead me to the solution. We can not open c: for her, if there is a registry edit where i can change the default location that would be great. Thanks in advance.
    Paul

If the Win7 is a 64-bit system, you will need to upgrade the Acrobat to XI. AA 7 will work with Win7, 32-bit, after some playing around but will not be automatic. I am specifically referring to printing to the Adobe PDF printer. PDF Maker will definitely not work with OFFICE 2010, that requires AA X with updates as a minimum.
For AA7, the AcroTray function will probably fail (it did for me on a 64-bit system). In fact, you will likely not even get a printer. I was able to install an HP PS printer (color should probably be selected) and change the name to the Adobe PDF printer. Then change the port to file. When you print to the printer, it will create a PS (actually listed as PRN) file that can then be opened in Distiller to complete the process of the PDF creation. For most users, this is not an obvious solution -- I even did it with AA5 on a 32-bit Win7. Because of the issues, it is strongly recommended to upgrade (at this point it is a new purchase since AA9 is needed for the upgrade at present) to AA XI. Sorry for the bad news, but AA7 is 8 years old and is ancient in software terms (OK, I still have it on some XP machines).

  • Form field background color printing - acrobat pro 8, Windows

My committee is tasked with making about 150 PDF forms writable and savable each year for a national organization. Over 3,000 people use these forms for reporting purposes, and also people who are entering contests, such as students, submit these forms. This is the first year my committee has made the forms savable, as it is a new feature in v8.
PROCESS: The PDF forms we receive are generated in Quark and sent to us. We cannot use Live Cycle to make the forms writable, as it generates files sizes that are too big for some of our users to download. We draw form fields and set up calculations, etc. on the forms we receive. Making them savable is the last step in the process.
PROBLEM: Some users have reported having the form fields print in blue or green. Usually upgrading to Reader 8+ solves this problem. Unfortunately, some users are sending in forms that are almost unreadable because the form fields have a colored background--(they didn't contact us). It's hard to determine how widespread this problem really is.
I spoke with Adobe technical support and learned that this isn't a "known" issue. He suggested that setting the background to "white" in Quark before the PDF is generated might help.
Does anyone have a solution that will keep these forms from printing colors in field backgrounds in earlier versions of Reader? Or any way to set the background color when NOT using Live Cycle?
    Thanks for any help!

Olaf, I tried to send you an email at the above address, and got the following message:
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
    PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 13): 553 5.3.0 <your email address>... Relaying denied
I did substitute for AT and DOT, so I did the email correctly.

  • Acrobat pro dc windows 8.1 only digital signatures allowed when creating forms

When creating fill in forms, my only option for inserting a signature is a digital signature and then when it comes time to complete the form, it wants a digital signature and does not allow you to just insert one on the tablet you are using to complete the form,

Click to Run according to Microsoft:

  • Acrobat Pro 11.0.07 is crashing on Windows 8.1

I've only seen a couple memos on this crash issue, is Adobe or MS working on this? Both my Acrobat Pro and Windows 8.1 are fully updated.
Acrobat is crashing have not found a work around or any memo reply on the site. Always on save as or any save with a file modification. Version of Office? If 2013 you may have to revert to 2010 seems Acrobat and the pdfMaker in Office 2013 are like mixing oil and water they don' work together. I don’t want to mix oil and water but sure as hell would like to be able to work?

    Hi GIS-USNEF,
Acrobat 11.0.07 is perfectly compatible with Office 2013
    When does the application crash?
    Was it working fine before?
Is the issue specific to some pdf files?
Do you get any error when Acrobat crashes?
Try using a different Admin account and check the performance.
We might also want to have a look at the crash log and procmon logs for detailed analysis.
