Setting up Airport Extreme to "play nice"  with Sony's LocationFree TV

Hi,
I have a PSP, an Airport Extreme and Express and a Sony LocationFree TV Base Station (LF-PK1). I had it all set-up and everything but had to reset my Airports (don't ask). Now, I can't get my LocationFree TV to work while on the go. If I connect through my home wireless network, it's all good. I think it has to do with Port Forwarding on my Extreme. I remember finding a great article on this website or forum but I can't find it anymore.
Can you please help me troubleshoot this? I went on Sony's website (horrible, their site isn't Mac friendly) but couldn't find much help. Oh, and lastly, I would love to know if there is a Mac-compatible LocationFree player for Canadians. The one from Iogen is only for American clients... yikes!
This forum rocks, thanks in advance guys.

  • HP laserjet P2035 on airport express not playing nice with Windows

I recently bought a new HP laserjet P2035 and hooked it up to my network via the usb connector on an airport express 802.11n. The Airport Express extends my network created on an Airport extreme 802.11n dualband.
I have a MBP 13 and it prints fine. The problem I have is with two PC's. I installed Bonjour on both of them (one on Vista and another one on XP) and they started to print fine. The next day, only my Mac was able to print. Nothing changed whatsoever. Only that I turned off the printer for the night.
I checked and both Windows machines and the printers appear just like they did the day before.
    Any ideas?

  • How do I set up Airport extreme as a remote with Gateway 2wire as a base

I just switched over to sbcglobal from comcast. Before switching, I had been using an APE as a base station connected with ethernet to my G5 and another APE as a remote. With sbcgobal I got a Gateway 2wire modem. What I would like to know is how do I set up my APE as remote? I need this to be able get my G4 powerbook to connect. I can wireless connect using my G4 a short distance away but if I go to the other end of the house no luck. Thats why I need this remote.
    thanks

Unfortunately, you won't be able to do this as few non-AirPort routers will work with AirPorts in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS).

  • How to set up Airport Extreme with Charter ARRIS Modem TM902A for the first time for WIRELESS.

How to set up Airport Extreme with Charter ARRIS Modem TM902A for the first time for WIRELESS.
When Charter Tech goes to your site, have them connect the modem up, but do not connect the modem to your iMAC or MacBook Pro.  What you want to do is connect the Airport Extreme to the iMac or MacBook Pro first with the Ethernet Cable. You have to do this to configure via Airport Utility to set up the Base Station Name & Base Station Password.
You will then create/configure a Wireless Network, create your Wireless Password that will be entered on each of your Devices, example, Apple Tv, your iPhone, etc., you want to allow access to your Wireless Network you are creating.
Wireless Security will be -> WPA/WPA2 personal or just WPA2
Enter the Wireless Password you want
Verify the Wireless Password (enter it again)
After it is created you will see it on the Airport Utility window with the name you created for it and to the left, will be a Dot (circle that will be yellow).
Next you then want to unplug the power to the Airport Extreme, and then take the end of the Ethernet cable you unplugged from the iMac or Lap top MacBook Pro and connect it to the back of the Modem.
Next unplug the power cord from the modem and wait about 5 minutes, then plug the power back into the Arris Modem and wait until all lights come back on the modem wait
about 5 minutes, then plug the power cord back to the Airport Extreme and you will see it the light blinking yellow.  Wait about 5 to 10 minutes, during this time Restart you IMAC or MacBook Pro, and once it is back up click on the Airport Utility and you should see on the Airport Utility screen.
For INTERNET to the left the light should be green and you should see the Airport Extreme also appear and the light to the left on the screen should also be green.  If they are, you then should be able to click on the Wireless Symbol on top of bar of the screen and click to select the Wireless Network Name you created.
If you Do Not See the light (Icon) next to INTERNET turn Green, or if you see the Internet Light Green, but the Light (Icon) next to the Airport Extreme is yellow, unplug the power again to the modem and unplug the power again to the Airport extreme and wait about 15 minutes or up to 30 minutes. Then plug the power cord back to the modem wait till all the lights light up then, plug the power cord back into the Airport Extreme and Restart your iMAC or MacBook Pro.
The Airport Extreme light should change from yellow to green. Open up the Airport Utility to see what the indicators are showing they should both be green.  Again select Wireless network you created under the Wireless Icon on the top right of the screen. Open Safari and see if you are able to Route to a web page or the apple site should appear.
WHAT TO DO IF YOUR AIRPORT EXTREME WAS PREVIOUSLY SET UP FOR USE WITH ANOTHER CARRIERS ROUTER OR MODEM.
NOTE:  If you already had your Airport Extreme connected for example, I previously had ATT Uverse and the Airport Extreme was connected to the Wireless Router Model 3801HGV, I disabled the Uverse Wireless and used the Airport Extreme for the Wireless signal in bridge mode, as the Airport extreme Signal is much stronger than the Uverse router, and I was able to obtain a Wireless signal with the Airport Extreme way much better with no signal loss which was very very frustrating with the Uverse router.
Anyhow if you had it hooked up like this, now that you will be using it with the Charter ARRIS Modem TM902A, you will need to reset the Airport Extreme to clear out the old data it has in memory, with the previous set up otherwise it will not work. Trust me I spent 6 hours trying to make it work reading all Apple Support Community questions and answers relating to this type issue/problem others have been having trying to get their set up working. I tried all the tips, and I finally decided just to see if by chance I would be able to connect with someone with Charter Tech support who might be familiar with Apple to be able to assist me and by luck I did.  He told me why it was not working and was all due the previous configuration with the ATT Uverse router was still in memory with the Airport Extreme. Finally it was 10:30 PM when I decided to call Charter Tech Support and I had been working on this since 3:00 pm pacific. I did not call them earlier as all the post I read said they never received any good help from Charter. After calling them I finished up by 11:00 PM and was able to finally connect Apple Tv, iMac, iPhones and Macbook Pro. We love our Apple Product and Happy all is connected with the new
Internet Provider Charter. I must say the speed is way way much better than it ever was with AT&T Uverse.
THIS IS WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO DO:
First you will need to unplug the Airport Extreme, then by taking the tip of a pen or paper clip end you need to push the reset button on the back of the Airport Extreme and hold it
down and at the same time plug the power cord back into the Airport Extreme count to 5 or 10 then release the reset button. Then once he light in front of the Airport Extreme stops blinking you need to plug the Ethernet cable from the Airport Extreme to your iMAC or Macbook Pro, and restart which ever one you have, then open the Airport Utility once it is back up.  If you see airport extreme pop up with the old network name or it shows and yellow triangle click on the Airport Extreme ICON it will not let you configure it but will ask if you want to get rid of it or remove and just do it.  Then Again restart your iMAC or MacBook Pro, open up Airport Utility again, and on the top left you should see under “Other Airport Base Stations” the MAC ID for the Airport Extreme.

I just got a Charter Modem. Model TM822. While I was moving, my Airport Extreme was still at my old place.
I have a Linksys WRT320N I used for the initial Charter setup.
I can get my Airport to work here, but the Internet light on the Modem flashes Yellow.
Hasn't caused any issues so far but one thing I did notice.
On the Linksys there were 3 DNS servers listed.
The Airport Extreme only lists 2 and i don't see where I could add another, only change whats already there.
I tried everything above, but light on modem still flashes yellow.
I have the technicians cell phone. Told me "that shouldn't be" and gave the same advice listed above.
I'll break down and call Charter one day, see if it's on their end. NSA tracking may need a reset LMAO.

  • Need help Please. Which play nice with macs? Palm Treo's Or Tmobile MDA?

Hi all, I post on here from time to time, but hardly anyone ever answers my questions. Here's my dilema. I bought a Tmobile MDA over the weekend that runs microsoft windows mobile 5.0. And while playing with it have noticed some things about it that i think are'nt that good. For example, I like the fact that its a windows os, but think that it's flawed. I have done quite a bit of research but don't think that it's active sync software is even compatible with mac osx. so have'nt even tried to mess with it. now i'm still in the 14 day window and am thinking about returning it. but here's the thing....
I know that tmobile has EDGE, and it's considerably slower than verizon or sprints EVDO. (since i've researched it i know that edge is around the 70-170KBPS range when EVDO has 300-700KBPS) And tonight i was messing with this tmobile MDA and finally got it to work to connect to the net with it using bluetooth and it's "modem" ability to connect it to the web. But it S U C K S! i went to and did a bandwith test and i was only getting like 12.1-27.1kbps download (after running 2 tests) dude, it feels slower than dialup!
so with that bullet against it, comes the compatible part. I can't sycn this thing with my mac for NOTHING! do any of you out there have a palm treo? (either verizon, sprint, or att.... carrier X?) How does it sync with your mac? is it hard? any extra software i need to get/buy? have any of you used it to connect to the net? and if so, how's the speed? And here's an even bettter question... How long did it take to config it to work using the phone as a modem? Did you use bluetooth? or serial link? was it easy to config? Where did you find the instructions?
I know these are a lot of questions, but this is a large investment for me. I mean this thing ain't cheap and it does'nt really play nice. I don't mind paying a little extra, for some peace of mind, and knowing that it won't crash often and will work with my mac. Anyone out there got any other suggestions? I would really appreciate it. I would like your opinion on which one is the easiest to use that plays nice with a mac, and has a interface that's almost as nice. Thank you so much for your time. I will be following this post closely and comment you all back for your replys

It really is a toss up cause Ive owned two Treo's and Ive read extensive reviews on Windows mobile devices and it seems to me like they're pretty similar in the way of hardware and software(minus the fact of using different operating systems). So I think the determining factor really ought to be more focused on how much you're willing to pay, and the level of support you get for each device. I recently got rid of my Treo 650 due to an interesting touchscreen problem and got a windows mobile device(should come tomorrow)
in the way of syncing with a mac:
The Treo is extremely simple to set up and use with a Mac(keep in mind Im not talking about the 700w/wx)in every aspect. Palm provides OSx compatible software(though its almost impossible to get rid of after installation). However, in my experience, Palm does not really do a good job in the customer service department. While they have a rather extensive support page for each device(some of the info is outdated), that's pretty much all you get unless you don't mind spending hrs scouring various forums. Talking to customer service is a joke. Like I said I had a problem with the touchscreen and the best the rep could give me was "try a hard reset" and "send it in for repair".
I have yet to experience what windows mobile will be like. At the very least with syncing, theres syncing software made by people who had OSx in mind(ie: Missing Sync or Pocketmac) who will probably be able to help out a lot more in this area and possible also be able to help out with the other issues you mentioned.
a good place to check out would be howardforums.com, you'll probably get better answers there.

  • Cheap wireless router that plays nice with macs??

    Greetings:
I have the older cone-shaped airport extreme base station...
it's working fine & I'm very happy with it.
    My situation is this....
Periodically I go thru times of network degradation when I pull my hair out trying to ascertain if the issue is my ISP mothership, my cable modem, the airport extreme base station, or any of the myriad of links in the chain along the way.
It's struck me on more than one occasion that it sure would be handy if I had *another wireless router on the shelf that I could grab & go with.
At issue, however are several matters:
--the fact that many other routers don't play nice with macs
--the fact that I **need to do WEP security (it seems to be being dropped by a lot of newer routers).......but my TIVO won't do WPA & also I still have 2 older imacs on my home wireless network.
I would LOVE to hear a recommendation of something cheap & locally plentiful (like at the local best buy) that still does WEP & will play nice with macs.
    Thanks for your help.

You have the option to configure both your AirPort Extreme and the AirPort Express to "participate in a WDS network, so the Express will connect to the AiirPort Extreme using wireless only and then "extend" the reach of the wireless network.
Or, connect the Express to the Extreme using an Ethernet cable and configure it to "create a wireless nework", which will also provide more wireless coverage.....with greater bandwidth because you are connecting routers together using Ethernet, not wireless.
The following Apple document will give  you all the options:

  • AirPort Extreme Card Connectivity Problem with D-Link DI-524

Have the DI-524 connected to my cable modem and to my old 9600 via ethernet. The 524 connects wirelessly with my son's Dell laptop wthout difficulty. Have no encryption enabled. Have a new G5 with AE Card, which shows that I'm getting a wireless signal (all bars lit), but cannot get Safari to work. Get a "Computer to Computer" network status message. Keep getting a "This computer is not connected to the internet." message from Safari, and no amount of configuring works. The Network Set-Up Assistant keeps asking for a DHCP client ID, which I do not use with the TCP/IP setup, so I can never get through the set-up on the G5. I must say this is really ticking me off. Got no help from D-Link, except to check that the 524 seems to be working properly. the cable company was of equally no use. Hopefully, one of you Mac faithful can help me out. It's a **** shame a free-after-rebate D-Link can get up and running with the Dell, and a $100 AE Card is making me crazy.

I cannot offer any suggestions, but we've got the same problem.
My DL-524 does not play nice with my wife's 12" PowerBook using wireless, but my 15" PowerBook works fine over wireless. I normally enable WEP and MAC address filtering on the DL-524, but I disabled everything and still no dice. The PowerBook responds the same each time:
"There was an error joining the AirPort network"
I looked in the console logs (on the PowerBook) and see multiple occurrences of this:
    WirelessJoin unexpected status: 8
The thing is, I generally know what I'm doing with my home network. I have 4 computers at home that work fine both wired and wireless, and like I said, my 15" PowerBook works fine wirelessly with the DL-524. But the 12" PowerBook will not communicate wirelessly.

  • How to set up Airport Extreme for 11ac and 11n?

I have just purchased the new Airport Extreme (August 2014) because Apple's website states
    Simultaneous dual-band support.
AirPort Extreme features simultaneous dual-band 802.11ac Wi‑Fi. That means it transmits at both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies at the same time. So no matter which band your wireless devices use, they’ll automatically connect to the best available band for the fastest possible performance.
I have number of Macs in my home from a new MacBook Pro with Mavericks to a Macbook Air with Snow Leopard (due to required software) and iPads.
So after setting up the new Extreme my new MacBook only accesses 11n as does my older Macs. I checked by holding down the option key while clicking the WiFi icon at the top of my Mac. Well, not so automatic then as I was expecting 11ac and 3 times faster access (as stated by Apple).
I then looked for some documentation for setting up but cannot find anything.
    Hence my question here.
How to set up Airport Extreme for 11ac and 11n simultaneously?
At present the new Extreme is no better than my previous 2 year old one.
    Thank you.
    Michael

How to set up Airport Extreme for 11ac and 11n simultaneously?
Assuming that it is operating correctly, 802.11ac and 802.11b/g/n are broadcast simultaneously by default.
That is advertising. The real information is usually found in the small and hard to read footnotes:
Based on theoretical peak speeds. Actual speeds will be lower.
AirPort Extreme is based on an IEEE 802.11ac draft specification. Performance based on comparison with Apple’s 802.11n products. Comparison assumes AirPort Extreme network with 802.11ac-enabled computer. Speed and range will be less if an 802.11a/b/g product joins the network. Accessing the wireless network requires a Wi‑Fi-enabled device. Actual speed will vary based on range, connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors. Range will vary with site conditions.
Since the 802.11ac signal is being broadcast only using the 5 GHz band, some users report that they have had better results by using the option to assign a different name to the 5 GHz band, and then pointing their Mac to that specific signal or network. You may want to try that option.
But first as a test, please locate the MacBook Pro about 10-15 feet or 3-4 meters from the AirPort Extreme with clear line-of-sight between the two devices. Restart both the AirPort Extreme and the Macbook Pro and then check to see if the Mac is connected to an 802.11ac signal.
If not, please power off your other wireless devices...computers, mobile devices, etc. temporarily, and try the same test again.
    Please report on your results.

  • I can not set my Airport Extreme

    Hello,
I just bought a airport extreme today and have spent most of the evening trying to set it up and having no luck.
I have two computers that I would like to set up. 1st computer is a Dell Desktop and the 2nd computer is a Mac Powerbook G5. Currently my Dell has a DSL connection and I want to connect my Powerbook to the DSL through the Airport Extreme.
When I hooked everything up per the start up guide, My dell computer said it was hooked up to DSL but I could not get onto the internet. The same thing happened on my powerbook. I am not sure if I even set up my airport extreme correctly. I was not sure if I was suppose to use Ethernet or PPP over Ethernet.
Please help I am so confused! The tech person at the apple store told me I needed to have this and that it was so easy to set up.

    First welcome to the discussions.
If I understand your post correctly.
    Turn both computers OFF.
Unplug the DSL connection from your Dell and plug it in to the Airport Extreme into the port with the circle of dots.
Next you can run an ethernet cable from the other port on the Airport Extreme the one with the 2 arrows pointing away from one another into your dell.
It would be best if you pull the power adapter from both the Internet Service Providers Modem and the Airport Extreme.
Now that you have your cables run and in the proper ports.
Plug in the power adapter into your ISP's Modem First and you must wait for it to acquire the signal this normally takes a minute or so.
Next plug in the power adapter into the Airport Extreme Base and again you must wait for the signal to re-establish. Now you can restart your computers.
On your Mac be sure you have your Network setting on Airport and it must have the litle green dot and drag it to the top of the list if it isn't already. The Dell is hardwired so you should be good there.
Good Luck, and check your Airport Extreme Booklet to determine the type of Network you want to set-up.
Your Powerbook should automaticlly see the Network, you will probably need to run the Airport Admin and Set-up Utility to name your network it's pretty straight forward.
Be sure your set to let the Airport Distribute the IP's and DHCP.
    Here is another option.

    Good Luck Don

  • Just bought a brand new Airport Extreme and having trouble with it being recognized. I have a Mac version 10.5.8. Is my computer compatible?  I have the Airport Express now and it works fine.

Just bought a brand new airport extreme and having trouble with it being recognized.  My mac is version 10.5.8.  What should I do?

The new AirPort Extreme needs the 6.x version of AirPort Utility, which comes packed in with Lion 10.7.5 or Mountain Lion 10.8.x......or......you can also configure the device using an iPhone or iPad running a recent iOS.
    From Apple's Specifications:
    Setup and Administration
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5 or later and AirPort Utility 1.3
Mac with OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later and AirPort Utility 6.3
    A few options.....
Borrow another Mac running Lion or Mountain Lion for 10-15 minutes and set it up. The Mac running 10.5.8 will be able to connect to the wireless....but it will not be able to make any changes to the configuration of the Extreme.
Update to Lion or Mountain Lion.....but check first to make sure that your Mac will support the operating system first.
Use....or borrow an iPhone or iPad to set up the Extreme

Thanks planb77. Your instructions worked but I had to do a little more than you stated. I did not realize that transferring files to a new computer was not enough. When the iPod synced I was told I needed to "authorize" my new computer to get my iTunes purchases to sync to the iPod. So after the initial sync, I ejected and disconnected the iPod, went into the iTunes store, set up "home sharing" and then authorized the new computer. When that was done I reconnected the iPod and was able to sync all my books and music. The only thing I couldn't do was rename the iPod as iTunes never asked me to. Is there a way to rename it after it has been set by iTunes as "owner's iPod"?

  • Will my airport extreme 2nd generation work with docsis 3.0 cable modems?

Will my airport extreme 2nd Gen work with docsis 3.0 cable modems?

    RRoger, everything is working fine.
So, what is the actual problem here?  You are now wondering if the Vonage can handle the speed from the modem? Is that the "problem" after all this discussion?
now I am wondering if my current setup will allow me to get docsis 3.0 speeds.
What speed is your Internet provider delivering to you?
The AirPort Express uses 100 Mbps Ethernet ports, so it will handle up to 100 Mbps. We have already told you that.
Vonage likely does the same. The answer is almost certainly "yes" .......both the Vonage and AirPort will handle the speed from the modem.
If you want to double check this, please provide the model number of the Vonage,  and we will try to look up the specifications for the device. If you have documentation there with specifications for the Vonage device, check to see if the Ethernet ports are listed as 10/100. This is standard with almost all devices, with some of them handling even higher speeds 10/100/1000.
Chances are, your network will handle a lot more speed than your service provider is supplying to you. So, the "choke" point on your network may very well be your service provider and modem......not the Vonage and AirPort.
