Setting up an erased iPhone
I finally got my Verizon iPhone and am giving my trusty old 3G to 6 year old nephew to use as a Touch for playing games. I erased everything via Settings on the iPhone. Now the screen shows the USB plug with instructions to connect to iTunes. When my nephew's parents plug it into iTunes on their PC, what will happen? Will there be a prompt to set it up as a new iPhone? Will the original apps be on the iPhone? The SIM card is in the iPhone but they will not be buying service, so will that be a problem when they set it up? I don't know what to tell them to expect.
Also, my nephew's sister has a Touch which is being synced on the same computer that will be used for syncing the iPhone. Will it be confusing for them to keep track of which apps are on which device? Sorry for all of the stupid questions. I don't have a Touch so haven't dealt with this. TIA for advise.

I lost my phone and set it to erase. Now I have found it. How do i cancel the erase function?
Here’s my question. My laptop is broken and I had a crack in my iPhone screen. Prior to sending it in to repair I backed up using iCloud and before restoring my phone to factory settings decided to do the software update. Half way through the update it asked me to connect to iTunes. So here’s were it gets complicated…
My charger is also broken, so in my panic at the stranger fixing my phone seeing my personal stuff I used the erase everything on the find my iPhone app, thinking iCloud had my back. It was still asking to be connected to iTunes so my friend have me their laptop nod charger (automatic sync not turned on) I plugged it in, the command went away and I sent my phone to be repaired.
It came back all shiny and new, but iCloud back up disppeared along with four years of photos, videos, etc etc. I contacted apple who had engineers go through their servers to find nothing from my iPhone backed up. I searched my friends laptop for music I have bought and even plugged the phone into their laptop but comes up with their phones name and their last back up. I have restored from iCloud and set up as a new phone.
I am worried my friend will have my information from my iPhone. Is it possible and if not has it just been erased forever?
sorry not really an answer but similar sort of question -
I am updating my iPhone 4 but have never backed it up. If I select "Set Up as New iPhone" will that erase everything -pictures, layout, downloaded apps?
Yes.

I just got an iphone 6. Not all of my music was on itunes, so I logged in and instead of clicking set up as new iphone I hit restore from backup, thinking it only pertained to the music in itunes. Now my new iphone looks just like my old iphone and has iphone 5 settings. How can I undo and get back to iphone 6 settings?
Settings/Reset/Erase all content and settings...
Recently I had to do the sequence above and when the phone rebooted, it came up as a new phone. -
Tried to upgrade os4 to os7 but could not due to "find my iphone" still turned on.
Could not turn it off at that stage so set up as new iphone. Now icloud will only accept past id email address and password which i no longer have,
but itunes on my phone has my correct current id and password. I need to restore my back up from itunes, i did not use icloud.
Any help please.
I did try yesterday but did not realise at that time that itunes had correct apple id. Hopefully this is a good thing!Thank you for your prompt reply.
I have looked at icloud.com/find numerous times and my iPad is not showing at all (see picture below). As I said I did turn off 'Find My iPhone' on my iPad and then erase all settings and data before taking it to the repair centre.
The gentleman at the repair centre said that the device won't restore because "Apple thinks that 'Find My iPhone' is still turned on" (I'm repeating what he said). -
I accidentally set up my new iPhone 4S as a new phone instead of using the backup I had from my old iPhone 3. Is there anyway to get my texts & contacts from that old backup now?
Neither of the above two posts will help you. If you want to restore your new phone from the backup of your old phone, you will have to start from scratch. On your new phone: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. Once done, you'll now be able to restore the backup of your old phone to your new phone.

how to get access to my iCloud back up when setting up a new iPhone 5s which needs the newest version of iOS7 first?
Set up the new phone as a new iPhone (without using your backup), then update it to the latest iOS (7.1.2). Then go to Settings>General>Reset, tap Erase All Content and Settings, go through the setup screens again and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup and follow the prompts. This process is explained in more detail here: iCloud: Restore your iOS device from iCloud.

I upgraded itunes since a pop up stated that I would have to upgrade it so it can recognize my iphone5's new software. I upgraded the itunes and now when I plug in the iphone its asking "set up as new iphone" will this delete everything on my phone? Also why is it forcing me to set up as a new iphone, why doesn't it recognize it like it did before I upgraded iTunes. I'm afaid I will lose all my apps, music, pictures etc. please help. thank you.
You are correct. Corrupted files are in the backup. If you've already restored the iPhone it has been erased and starting over is the way to go in order to eliminate the corrupted files.
Hope that helps -
Trying to set up my new iphone 5s from the cloud
Im trying to set up my new iphone 5s by restoring from the cloud. When I get to the "choose backup" screen, i try to choose my latest back up, but nothing happens. the wring is in gray and nothing happens when I touch it. the bottum of the screen says "No icoud backups are compatibel with the version of iOS(7.0.4) on this iphone) Please help. I can't use my phone and I need to make some calls.
It sounds as if your new iPhone has iOS 7.0.4, but the backup was performed using iOS 7.1. if that is the case, here is how to solve this:
1. Upgrade your new iPhone to iOS 7.1. If it cannot yet get to Setitings, set is up as a new iPhone. Then do Settings > General > Software Update.
2. Prepare to restore the iCloud backup. The way to do this is to now do Settings > Gerneral > Reset > Erase all content and settings
3. Restore the iCloud Backup. You will now be directed through the "Hello", set up WiFi, enter your Apple ID, and choose a backup.
This will only work if your old backup used the same telephone number, cellular carrier, and Apple ID of the new iPhone. -
I plugged in the iphone 5 to PC via itunes what should i do between Set up as new iphone or Restore from this back up? i just want to transfer all my purchased apps and contacts to my new iphone? don't want to screw thing up. Please help..... thanks
Is this a new iPhone?
If so, when connecting a new iPhone to iTunes for the first time that has been used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the new iPhone, or set up the new iPhone as a new iPhone.
If you don't want to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device, select set up as a new iPhone. No existing data or settings will be erased or changed when selecting as a new iPhone. Not that difficult or difficult at all. -
I can't restore factory setting on my old iPhone 4 and i dont know why? I have a iPhone 6 attached to my iTunes - is it something to do with that? I would like to pass my iPhone on to a family member but would prefer if it was wiped before - thank you for your help

Erase iPhone 3 data from iTunes without erasing 4S dataa
How do I erase the contact, calendar, and iPod data from my old iPhone 3G? I have a Mac. My data is on iTunes. It is on both my old phone and my new iPhone 4S? I am trying to erase the data from the old phone without erasing it from iTunes or from my new phone so that I can pass it on. In the old phone under settings - general. I selected "reset" but it wants me to sync with my computer. I am afraid to. Help
If you plug in to your old computer, you can select your device and click Restore. When it is done, you want to select "Set up as new iPhone."

I'm trying to locate my iPhone but I didn't set up find my iPhone how would I locate it?
I'm trying to find my iPhone but I didn't set up find my iPhone how would I locate it
Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only locate, lock or erase your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely. -
I Have a new wifi router and have set up my iPad / iPhone and wireless printer correctly to the new router but I can't print from the iPad and iPhone. It keeps saying ' no AirPrint printer found'. Help please!
Start with the most basic thing that you can try. Unplug the router from power for about 30 seconds, and restart the printer and the iPad and plug the router back into power.

can i set up my new iphone 5s using my ipad (because my work laptop wont allow me to installl itunes).?
No, but you do not need iTunes to setup a new iPhone 5s. Create an iCloud backup for anything you want to transfer to the new iPhone.
