  • EA6300 - Cascading the Linksys router to another router (LAN-LAN) - Does not Bridge built in Wifi AP

    Regarding:
    http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?pid=80&vw=1&articleid=3733#
Cascading the Linksys router to another router (LAN-LAN)
The Bridge mode function on the EA6300 does not bridge the Wifi AP radio to the network.
The ethernet ports are bridged, and the router can see network devices and wifi devices connected to itand ping devices in both directions , but Wifi clients connecting to the unit running in bridge mode are not "bridged" to the network.
    ~
Using the built in webpage of the router, all devices can be pinged.
Ethernet RJ-45 devices plugged into it can ping the unit and pull up the units config webpage, but not ping wifi clients connected to it.
Wfii devices connected to its access point radio, can pull up the units config webpage, but not ping ethernet RJ-45 devices connected to it.
If there is a bridge, then the bridge is broken in half and not functional.
    ~
All devices are set with IPs on the same subnet,  192.168.2.x
    ~
I have a Netgear router in Bridge mode, and it works fine, connecting the wifi access point and RJ-45 ethernet clients together like it should be, so I know how Bridge mode... should work...
But it doesn't on this unit, it is not working completely out the factory door.   It will bridge one Router to another via the RJ-45 ethernet ports, but its own AP radio is no longer bridged and connected (like when running in NAT
Note that doing cascading  using NAT as described under "Cascading the Linksys router to another router (LAN-WAN)" works fine.

    Hi,
There's no WLAN bridge feature on the new Linksys Smart Wifi routers. You might also like to check and review these articles about Bridge Mode:

  • A bridge? A switch? Another router?

I had a internet modem connected via ethernet cable to a Linksys router (the wireless ability had been deactivated) and then I ran from the Linksys one ethernet cable to one Apple Express (N) and another ethernet cable to another Apple Express (b/g for some G3 Macs). The internet stopped working so I plugged the modem directly into the N Apple Express. I guess I need to get rid of the Linksys. What should I get to replace it so I can run the N and the B/G Apple Expresses again? A bridge? A switch? Another router?
    Thanks,
    P.Hyland

When you plugged your Express devices into the Linksys router, did you first configure them to act as a "bridge"?. In other words, the Connection Sharing setting in AirPort Utility must be set to "Off (Bridge Mode).
You would need to do this for both Express devices as follows:
Open Hard Drive > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
    Click Manual Setup
Click the Internet icon at the top of the setup page
At the bottom of the next page, look for the setting for Connection Sharing. This must be set to "Off (Bridge Mode) whenever the device is plugged into a router.
Chances are, your Linkys is fine and the Express devices were not correctly configured to connect to the Linksys. If you connected the Expresses to your old Apple router (I'm assuming it has LAN ethernet ports as well), they will be configured the same way. So, whether you use the Linksys or the Apple, configure your Express devices as above.
So, your network will look like this:
Modem > Router > Express Devices > Computers can connect by wireless or they can connect by ethernet to the Router.

Oh boy... guess it's not a good idea to chill on a Sunday afternoon, having few beers and also tweaking Linux...
I have commited a typo which costed me about 1 hour of confusion.
    Wrong setting:
    eth1="eth0 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255"
    Good setting (after another beer):

  • Cannot get Cisco Connect to install or set up E1000 router

    1. We have been using an E1000 router connected to our main Dell desktop (running XP SP3) to handle a small home network that includes wife's laptop which has card and kids' desktop with USB wireless adapter.
    2. We purchased a new main desktop computer, ZT Systems running Windows 7. I am attempting to install Cisco Connect on this computer and set up the router. I reset it to factory specifications because I figured I'd have to start from step 1.
    3. I cannot find the original setup CD that came with the router and I have no clue whatsoever what my password is.
    4. So, I downloaded CiscoConnect.E1000.1.3.11069.2, the appropriate software to my desktop, and have been trying to install the software and configure the router, without any success whatsoever. When I plug it in, it asks me to connect the router which I do. It then will get to 25 percent of setup and stop, saying it couldn't be configured. At the same time, I have no Internet access, keeps telling me it's looking for networks when I actually am trying to set up a network.
    5. I've tried the steps for configuring without the software, Windows still searches for a network and tells me it can't find one and I have no Internet access.
    6. Can anyone tell me what's going on here, what I'm doing wrong, anything I'm missing? Do I need to just buy another router or what? Thanks in advance for any help.

Does your desktop have wireless? If so, switch it off and retry the installation. Make sure to reset the E1000 by holding the reset button for about 10 seconds.

  • Problems setting up static routing

    HI
I'm having a problem setting up static routing.  I keep getting the message "invalid static route".   I have an E1550 router and my frimware is up to date.  I have tried a few different gateway addresses ie 192.168.1.1,  127.0.0.1 and my router's address on the net, but I keep getting the same message.  Has anyone else had this problem and been able to fix it?

I think the E1550 router supports LAN to LAN routing provided that you have two local networks. If you only have a plain modem and the E1550, I believe you can't do Static routing on that type of setup. Found this link that might help: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=12a84336a124498eb5d6f0204b85191e_17589.xml&pid=80&...

  • Problems setting up WRT54G2 router

I'm having problems setting up my Linksys WRT54G2 router. I want my mac laptop (iBook G3 running OSX) to use a wireless connection, and the home computer (running Windows XP) to stay connected to the modem.
I originally tried to set up the router by connecting it via ethernet to my laptop (and by ethernet to the modem), and went into the 192.168.1.1 address to configure it. The internet works fine on my laptop when connected to the wireless by ethernet but it can't connect wirelessly (it has an original airport card fitted, at first I thought I might need to upgrade the firmware but I ran a software update and one didn't come up). I then realised that I would need to MAC clone from the PC, that is connected to the modem? I tried to do this today, but I couldn't access the 192.168.1.1 address from the PC. I have tried resetting the router, and disabling the firewall but still can't access it. This PC also has anti-virus software running too - could this be the problem, or am I setting it up wrong? Thanks.

If you are trying to Setup your Router with the setup disk, Then you can exit from the setup and configure your Router manually. Before you configure your router, you need to Press and hold the reset button for 60 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 60 seconds and re-connect the power cable.....
You need to connect your Modem to Linksys Router on Internet Port and your Computer to Linksys Router on Port No.1.

    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select AES...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 >>Click on "Save Settings"...

They said I need to change my settings to NAT settings. I haven't been able to figure out or find anything. I have also spoken to Apple Support on the phone for hours without being able to figure out how to do this ( i don't think he knew much either lol.) Please help me because I've got about 15-20 devices in my house that require to be connected to the internet and this is just making things ridiculously slow and painful for me.
    Thanks!

It is on DHCP & NAT under router mode yet my isp is still the one issuing ip addresses to my devices instead of the router issuing them

In Mail Preferences/Accounts/each GMail account, set up the SMTP Outgoing Server for each account separately, going into SMTP name/edit/Advanced and specify the Username of each account.  The Outgoing servers must be two different servers, authenticated by the Username and Password of each.
Otherwise, the GMail SMTP server will change the from address to that of the account where the SMTP server was setup.

  • How to set the default route on a RVS4000 to point to a gateway in the LAN

    Hi
The dialog in the RVS4000 for static routes does not allow to set the default route to point to a gateway in the LAN. Clearly this is either a bug or a feature of the web-interface and not a restriction of the box, which runs some kind of linux. So my question is there a way around this problem rather then defining routes to n-class A networks to cover the internet? Like a terminal access to set the default route?
    Thanks and cheers
    Frank

    Hi David
Thanks for your reply. I did already the first part and it seems that I presumed wrongly that the RVS4000 can be used as a layer 3 switch, instead it is only a 1-port gateway. Not that there is a technical limitation from the hardware or the OS of the box. It does layer 3 routing e.g. for its VLAN's. The only point to stop it from having the capability which I expect from something called router is to set its default route to the right gateway independant which port might be connected. The reason why I want a LAN port pointing to the gateway and do not use the WAN port without firewall is of course the VLAN capability of the LAN ports. The idea of the RVS is to bundle two nets, including the one where the gateway is on, and send it to a WAP4410N box, which nicely makes them wireless with different SSID's. Actually I have two ports connetced to the core network, if I am forced to have only the WAN port connected to the core, due to this artificial limitation, I would have to reconfigure a bit. Therefore I try to find an easier solution setting the route by "hand".
    Cheers Frank

  • Connecting to mass storage and printers on another router

I have my wireless router connected to another router that router is connected to the internet. My wireless connection works fine getting to the internet, but I am unable to see the other items connected to the first router. This would be my network printer and mass storage. What can I do?

Windows uses a protocol called SMB to connect to network shares. You will need to route ports 139, 445, and possibly 137 between the 2 networks. Unless you have a specific reason I would dump the non-wireless router. Having 2 routers is asking for problems and making your network overly complicated.

  • Added another router to UC320 W network

We are currently using a UC320W for our router, phone system, and wireless.  We are wanting to add a device for VPN connections.  I was wanting to find out if we could disable the routing on the UC320 W and just have it on the lan and the wireless as an Access Point?  Basically install another firewall or router in front of it to handle the routing, dhcp, dns, and vpn connections.  Has anybody attempted this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

We've not found a way to disable the routing on the UC320. What we ended up doing was giving the UC320 its own public IP, then disable the DHCP/DNS options for it and place another router (a pfSense firewall) in parallel with it.
