Setting up Apache Tomcat 4.0 for hosting a webpage

Hi, I am trying to setup an Apache Tomcat 4.0 web server for hosting on my computer through a verizon DSL connection, and a DI-604 router, and a program called no-ip (http://www.no-ip.com) that is supposed to allow you to host a web server from your home computer using dynamic ip addresses I can't seem to get it to work,
I can reach the server though http://localhost/
I can reach the server though http://127.0.0.1/
I can't reach the server though http://leeand00.servehttp.com/
which is the address IM supposed to access it though on no-ip.
When I ping leeand00.servehttp.com it returns 100% of the packets, I think it must have something to do with the ports, and I know I can't use port 80 because it's blocked by verizon.
Thanks in advance,
Maskkkk

Like what I java application?
or a servlet/JSP web application?
I'm confused....
Hi,
localhost and 127.0.0.1 are basically the same. So
So try creating an application and connecting through
http://localhost/aplication_name
If this does not work, then you need to check your
ur configuration out, and most of this is done in the
conf/server.xml file

  • Setting up Apache Tomcat - information in Wiki do not work!

    Hello there,
I wanted to install Apache Tomcat on my Webserver, but was not able to follow the wiki entry in http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Tomcat_and_Apache.
Installing Tomcat via pacman was not a problem. Then, the first problem came up:
Edit /etc/conf.d/tomcat. Change CATALINA_USER to some user that suites your system (like "nobody")
My default /etc/conf.d/tomcat looks like this:
    # Arguments for catalina
    #CATALINA_OPTS=
There is no CATALINA_USER entry. Adding one didn't help anything.
    modprobe capability gives me
    FATAL: Module capability not found.
and trying to start tomcat with /etc/rc.d/tomcat start tells me
:: Starting Tomcat [BUSY] 06/03/2010 14:04:13 31786 jsvc error: Cannot locate Java Home
    [FAIL]
Ok. Adding JAVA_HOME to /etc/conf.d/tomcat and setting it to /opt/java (which is my Java home) did even take no effect.
What am I doing wrong, how can I get it to run?
    Thanks in Advance,
    beachcoder

The package 'openjdk' installs to /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk
but the package 'jdk' installs to /opt/java
This is a problem, as the wiki is written assuming jdk (rather than openjdk) really, they should install to the same place to avoid confusion (and both openjdk and jdk conflict, so you can't install them both at the same time)
If you're using openjdk, replace $JAVA_HOME in /etc/rc.d/tomcat with /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk
if you're using jdk, it should be /opt/java
    hope that helps

  • Apache Tomcat and eclipse for EP

    Hi,
I have got anew book on SAP Enterprise protal by SAP Press.
There is also a CD which contains Portal development kit, eclipse 2.1, apache tomcat 3.3.1 and portal development kit plug-in for eclipse.
I don't have any SAP Access as if now.
Is it possible to learn SAP EP programming based on the softwares I have got on these CD and the book.
    Tushar

Tushur,  yes you can use that software to learn how to code JSPDynPage applications for the portal.   This is how I started learning portal technology.  I have since moved on to webdynpro.   You might consider, as Srinivas suggested,  download the Sneak Preview of WAS 6.40 java.  This will give you a complete development envirnment,  the NWDS,  the portal,  and the WAS to run it on.  Next thing you now, you'll be writing webdynpro apps like the best of em.

  • Setting Classpath in TomCat 5.5 for Custom Application

I seem to have messed up my application. I cant access some of my java classes written and deployed in the WEB-INF/classes directory from a JSP Page stored in my app root.
However, the fun part of this is if I create a package in WEB-INF/classes, store my java/class files in it and access these from the JSP using import, it works pretty fine. I'm unable to debug the scenario.
I've given only the context path for the application in the server.xml. I suppose that would be sufficient for my application to be deployed, and need not specify any other classpaths anywhere.
Please help me and correct me if i'm wrong.
    fun_one

As of Java 1.4, if any class is in a package, then it can no longer access or import classes from the default (non) package.
As of Tomcat 5.0, all TC classes, including the translated JSP pages, are in a package. That means that they can not access your classes that are not in a package.
Your only option is the best one you should always do anyway: put all the classes in a package.

  • Instructions on hosting my portlet on Portal's Apache Tomcat.

    Greetings,
I wrote a portlet that I have been hosting on a copy of Apache Tomcat I installed on my local machine. Now I want the Portal's Apache Tomcat Web Server to host it.
I don't just want to muck with the portal's internal copy of the web.config file if there is a more elegant way. I presume there must be because as we installed the different services, they made portlets available.
Any help, guidance, or instructions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
Portal application has nothing to do with your portlet application. Your portlet application has to be hosted on remote server (as soon as there is no native portlets anymore).
It still may be the some Tomcat instance where your portal is (bad practice), but even in this case it will be different application in webapp catalog. Portal will allways communicate with your portlet over http. This is one of the most important difference of Plumtree in compare with many other portal vendors.

    Hi ,
i have installed apache 2.2.21 in the red hat linux 6 environment. Now i am trying to set that apache web server as a front end host ,proxy web server for my weblogic 10.3 application server cluster. My apache is listening to the port 8080.

Can any one guide me how to proceed ?
    Any help is highly appreciated......

    Thanks Ravi,
i have already gone through http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E12840_01/wls/docs103/plugins/apache.html.
In my case "mod_wl_22.so" was not available but i downloaded this p10051826_1033_Generic.zip file from where i got that file and make it available in the modules directory, changed the file permissions (using chmod 755 mod_wl_22.so) and also changed the httpd.conf file as below :
    LoadModule weblogic_module modules/mod_wl_22.so
    <IfModule mod_weblogic.c>
    WebLogicCluster wlserv1:7001,wlserv2.com:7001
    MatchExpression *.jsp
    </IfModule>
By using /bin/ls command i checked the following :
/bin/ls: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked (uses shared libs), for GNU/Linux 2.6.18, stripped
Using file mod_wl_22.so i checked the following:
mod_wl_22.so: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), dynamically linked, not stripped
My problem is when i used ./apachectl -t i got the following error :
httpd: Syntax error on line 112 of /u40/app/apache/conf/httpd.conf:
Cannot load /u40/app/apache/modules/mod_wl_22.so into server: libstdc++.so.5:

So can u please guide me where my problem is and how to rectify it ? Its urgent. please help me.

  • Unable to compile class for JSP. apache-tomcat-6. What could be wrong?

Hello, I am new to JSP and I am trying a very basic jsp and class file on Windows XP. I get the Unable to compile class for JSP.
    Steps that I have done:
    javac ch06_01.java , placed the ch06_01.class under
    C:\Apps\apache-tomcat-6.0.16\webapps\ch06\WEB-INF\classes
Then grabbed the ch06_02.jsp and placed it under
    C:\Apps\apache-tomcat-6.0.16\webapps\ch06\
When I run it (by placing this into Explorer or Firefox URL
http://localhost:8080/ch06/ch06_02.jsp) I get the error further
below. Things I have done and made sure they are in place are:
    set up JAVA_HOME to C:\Apps\jdk1.6.0_06
    Using CATALINA_BASE: C:\Apps\apache-tomcat-6.0.16
    Using CATALINA_HOME: C:\Apps\apache-tomcat-6.0.16
    Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: C:\Apps\apache-tomcat-6.0.16\temp
    Using JRE_HOME: C:\Apps\jre1.6.0_06
I did a google on the error and I found people saying to place the
tools.jar from the jsk into the lib directory under CATALINA_HOME. But
the examples still don't work. What step could I be missing? Your help is greatly

I just updated the directories of the variables to reflect the current status of my system.

What is wrong is that you are using an "old" jsp tutorial :-)
Since Java 1.4, JSPs have been unable to access classes in the "default" package.
    What you need to do:
Put the java class ch06_01 in a package.
    Steps to do this
    - Edit ch06_01 and add the following to the very top of the file (without the quotes): "package mypackage;"
    - create a folder "mypackage"
    - move ch06_01.java into that folder
    - compile that class (now in the mypackage package)
    - place ch06_01.class under C:\Apps\apache-tomcat-6.0.16\webapps\ch06\WEB-INF\classes\mypackage
    In your jsp:
    <%@ page import="mypackage.ch06_01" %>
I would suggest using a more up-to-date tutorial that uses JSTL.
Take a look at this [Apache Tomcat tutorial|http://www.coreservlets.com/Apache-Tomcat-Tutorial/index.html]

in one article i have found that we have to set up the Apache/Tomcat in order to rewrite the rmi-cgi call to the servlet.
i am not able to make run rmiservlethandler app. any tips for this app to run on Apache/Tomcat.

  • Setting the classpath of classes12.zip for Tomcat

    Hi
I am using Apache Tomcat webserver and while trying to run a jsp page which intializes oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver it throws an error
    java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver
Please suggest how to set the classpath of classes12.zip in Apache Tomcat
    My Code Snippett
    <%@ page import="java.util.*,java.sql.*,javax.servlet.*"%>
    <body>
         <%
         Connection con ;
         ResultSet rs ;
         Statement stmt ;
         ResultSetMetaData rsmd ;
         try{
         Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
         catch(Exception e)
out.println(e);//print the exception on the command prompt
    %>

The simplest way to do this is to copy classes12.zip to the WEB-INF/lib directory. The JSP should then find this automatically.
As a side note, that is an ancient JDBC driver - you might want to upgrade to something from this millennium.

  • Unable to set the ip address for hosted network client after creating WIFI hotspot

Original Title: INTERNET CONNECTIVITY PROBLEM WITH MY LAPTOP WIFI HOTSPOT
    HI all
I am able to use internet connection from my lap hotspot, when the internet source is Public or private wifi.
so I know the cmd window commands for hotspot and settings of client(sharing to hosted network client, assigning IP address etc.,)
but the problem I am facing is slight different
I am using my cdma wireless broadband datacard as my source internet connection(Reliance netconnect +)
when I try to create hotspot for this, as usual I am able to create the hotspot and able to share the internet to hostednework client.
but I am unable to set the ip address for hosted network client, if I try to set ip 192.169.137.1 and 255.255.255.0
as soon as I close the window, the ip address also disappears
when connect my android phone to that hotspot, it is able to connect but there is no internet connectivity.
when I check the hostednetwork client for packet transmission, both sent and received packet is happening., I mean transmitting
so what cause the failure in internet connectivity but success in hotspot connectivity?
    check the screen shots...
    can u help me..
    its little complicated

    Hi,
Please make sure the Ad hoc connection IP adress is at the same range with your local connection. In addition, how about recreate the ad hoc connection for test, please have a try.
If problem persists, please use Network troubleshooter in Action Center to fix this problem for test.

  • Are Wildcards possible for host name in "no proxy for" setting?

Our LAN requires a proxy for internet access. I need to bypass proxy for certain host names, as the proxy blocks many ports.
Things work if I enter the entire host name. But there are many, so I wish to use wildcards in the host name.
That does not seem to work.

There is no solution for host names and wild cards as far as I know. That is why I showed how to do this with the IP.
Does it work if you only specify the top level domain if you want to include other domains with the same postfix?

What are the latest versions of Apache/Tomcat that can be used with Business Objects 6.5 sp3 i.e. are particular Apache/Tomcat versions bundled with a Business Objects release
We have had doubts cast over the security features of the versions of Apaceh/Tomcat we use and need to know whether we can use later versions of Apache/Tomcat, whilst retaining existing version of Business Objects 6.5.3 ?

    bundled with Tomcat 5.5.25

  • Streaming CSV via Apache/ Tomcat  with Mod Proxy

I have Apache hooked up to Tomcat using mod_proxy and attempts to stream a CSV file from a Struts action via tomcat fails.
Using the tomcat port localhost:8080/testappp the streaming works fine but for some reason it does not work via the apache url
Build is Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 on Apache 2.0.52-25 and Tomcat 5.5
Below are pastes of the apache conf file and tomcat server.xml
    Thanks
    # httpd.conf
    # Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool.
    # This is the main Apache server configuration file. It contains the
    # configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
    # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/> for detailed information about
    # the directives.
    # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
    # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
    # consult the online docs. You have been warned.
    # The configuration directives are grouped into three basic sections:
    # 1. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a
    # whole (the 'global environment').
    # 2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server,
    # which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host.
    # These directives also provide default values for the settings
    # of all virtual hosts.
    # 3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to
    # different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the
    # same Apache server process.
    # Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
    # of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
    # server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do not begin
    # with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
    # with ServerRoot set to "/etc/httpd" will be interpreted by the
    # server as "/etc/httpd/logs/foo.log".
    ### Section 1: Global Environment
    # The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache,
    # such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it
    # can find its configuration files.

    # Specify a default language. This means that all data

    # Note 1: The suffix does not have to be the same as the language
    # keyword --- those with documents in Polish (whose net-standard
    # language code is pl) may wish to use "AddLanguage pl .po" to
    # avoid the ambiguity with the common suffix for perl scripts.
    # Note 2: The example entries below illustrate that in some cases
    # the two character 'Language' abbreviation is not identical to
    # the two character 'Country' code for its country,
    # E.g. 'Danmark/dk' versus 'Danish/da'.

And that's what's supposed to fix this problem in the first place, right??

  • Problem connecting oracle database to jsp pages using Apache Tomcat server 8.0

Well...I tried too many things..googled so many times..but still could not find solution to my problem.
I use windows 8 Enterprise Edition(if this has to do something with the problem)
    Oracle 11.2.0
    Apache Tomcat server 8.0
    JDK 1.7
My oracle is installed in the D: drive and tomcat in c:. i copied the ojdbc6.jar file from oracle to lib directory of tomcat server.
Then i set  CLASSPATH in environment variables as "C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 8.0\lib\ojdbc6.jar" in system variables
My path variable is set as "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_02\bin".
My program is as follows in notepad:

    >> Nothing solved this problem.
Can't fix a problem 'till an actual problem is identified.
    >> ODBC Driver Manager ... Data source name not found
That appears to be ODBC drivers looking for a DSN (Data Set Name). If it wants a DSN, the DSN has to be specified in the code, and the DSN has to be configured in the windows host ODBC applet. So that is at least two squirrels to get in the right tree before moving forward. A ...host:...[port:]SID|service name are some of the bits needed in a jdbc connect string, and that is in no way related to DSNs. A Whole Different Animal. If it wants a DSN that might be what needs to go in the URL bit.
And ODBC setups can be confusing, especially if an x64 OS is in the mix- if that is the case there are two different ODBC configuration applets, one for x64 the other for x86, and if one gets as far as talking to an actual database it might toss an architecture error. Only way to fix that "problem" is *delete* the ODBC DSN and then run the correct (maybe the x86) ODBC config utility, and set up the DSN. Again.
