I have my own iTunes account. I would like to setup my daughter with a child account off my account. J can't find any place to tell me how to do this. Can anyone who has done this please give me a hand?
thanks

Ok. I found the answer to my question myself. Found a guy in my local apple store who pointed me to this URL:

This page has a link on it that immediately opens iTunes to the secret Allowance Wizard page!

my childs ipod and my ipad have the same email address and itunes ID how do I stop both devices duplicating everything, change email address or set up new itunes account?

On each device go to Settings> iTunes and App store> Turn off automatic downloads of Music, Apps and Books.  Now a purchase will only go to the device from which it was ordered.

  • Cannot set up child account, Apple instructions are wrong

I just got my 12 year old son an iPod 5 for Christmas.  I'm trying to get him into the Apple store so that he can download the apps he used to use on his sister's iPod.  However, because he is under 13, Apple requires him to have his account under a parent's account. Here is where the frustration comes in, because Apple's instructions to do this are wrong and we have hit a wall.  We cannot create his account, so it appears that he will not be able to use the Apple store for another year.
The instructions say this, exactly copied and pasted from Apple's support page:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 8
Use these steps to create an Apple ID and add the child to your family group:
Go to Settings > iCloud > Family, and tap "Create an Apple ID for a child."
Enter your child's birthday and tap Next. The birthday for a child's account can't be changed after the account is created. Be sure to enter the correct date.
The problem is, there is no "Family" menu under iCloud, and when we try to create the Apple ID for him, we get an error after we put his birth date in that says his ID needs to be part of a Family Share account.  I know this.  However, there appears to be absolutely no way to accomplish this.
This is why Apple is so frustrating to work with- incomplete or incorrect instructions leave their customers stranded and unable to use their devices.  Does anyone have any idea how to fix Apple's screw up?

I made an account on her ipod, created a family 2nd account.  Then I logged off. Signed back in as the child.  The child asked for approval to buy an app. I can not approve this anywhere else other than by signing out as the child and then signing back in as the adult.  There is no way to approve or set up family accounts on a non mac PC or non IOS system.  Is a serious problem as a parent.

  • A method to convert an existing iCloud account to a Child iCloud Account for Family Sharing

I do not see any method by which to convert an existing iCloud account (we have three set up for our kids, all their birthdays are set later than their actual birthdays so we could grab their actual names before they were all gone years ago) to a new Child iCloud Account for use with Family Sharing (namely to be able to take advantage of the new features: Family Calendar, Photostream, 'Ask to Buy' on the Stores, etc. on their own iPad minis.
If this is just not possible under the current scheme, please oh please Apple make this an option - there are probably thousands of others in this same boat, and I refuse to give up my kids' iCloud accounts!

I've read every string and workaround solution on these forums (to date). There's really no good options here.
USER STORY: My kid (age 7) has an iPad 2.  I created an email address for him (which he doesn't know about). I created an apple ID for him (which he also doesn't know or care about) and I set up his Apple ID with my credit card.  In addition I've set up parental controls on the iPad to lock it down and make it more age appropriate.   Over the past year or so it's worked out fine, he sees something he might like, brings the iPad to me and if I approve, I enter the Apple ID Password  and approve the purchase.   After a year of doing this, he has a nice little collection of apps, kid songs, a few movies, etc.   I would like to move my kid over to a legitimate kid account now that Apple has released features that support this.  Currently the ability to convert an account does not exist. Seems like it should be easy to change a birthday, etc.
Almost seems like Apple is penalizing us for getting our kid an iPad last year.
Apple  - Please consider my user story for your upcoming feature enhancements.

  • How can i delete an child iCloud account created in error?

I was setting up iCloud accounts for my two children today but mistakenly created an extra 'child' (for a non-existent 2 month old) account that i want to delete. How can i permanently delete a child iCloud account?

You can't delete an iCloud account. You can sign-out, or remove the account from devices, computer or related services.

  • Airport and Internet in child's account

    Hello,
I am trying to set up my sons account in parental controls. I have listed safe websites and checked off utilities in the apps section. The airport access does not darken when I log into my home network. I have no problem with my or my daughters account. There is an exclamation mark on the airport symbol or it stays blank. How do I get him access on safari?
    Thanks

Thanks for your suggestion. I did think it must be a permission thing. I repaired permissions on the main account just in case. Nothing, for the typing one, but the visual dictionary started to work.
In exploring your suggestion, I found that I am the owner of the typing program, and others had "read only." Changed that to "read and write" for others. Then in the child account, I found that I could open it.
However, when I double clicked the desktop icon I had set up, it reverted to the original problem. Some problem with a file called splash.dat. So I junked that desktop icon and dragged the functioning program into the dock. Now it works.
I wonder if the whole thing could have been due to a corruption in the desktop copy of the file.
In any case, the problem seems to be solved and again, thank you!

  • Set up separate iTunes accounts

How do I set up separate itunes accounts (unique one for each child) so they can download music and I can track $ usage. Each child has a separate shuffle but they use the same Imac computer.

There are several different ways to use two iPods with one computer, have a look at this help page for suggestions: How to use multiple iPods with one computer
You don't need a separate store account for each person by the way unless you particularly feel the need to segregate the purchases. You can set up one account and load songs from it onto any or all of the iPods (though you may want only one person, yourself for example, to hold the password and control the purchases).

  • HT204053 The entire family has used one itunes account for years. How do we all set up separate iCloud accounts now?

The entire family has used one itunes account for years. How do we all set up separate iCloud accounts now? Or should we? 5 macbooks, 2 ipads, 4 iphones, 2 itouch, 2 imacs.   How does one decide what to sync, share and what not to? Green Jeans.

You need to start by understanding the distinction between iTunes and iCloud - Apple confuse the issue by referring to 'iTunes Match' as part of iCloud. It isn't.
You don't have to have the same login (Apple ID) for iTunes and iCloud; many people don't and there's no problem about it.
Your iCloud ID gets you email, calendars, contacts, iWork documents and PhotoStream syncing between devices.
Your iTunes ID gets you the iTunes Store, the App Store for iOS, the Mac App Store for OSX,, 'iTunes in the Cloud' (downloading of purchased items to any logged-in device) and 'iTunes Match' (uploading of songs not purchased in the iTunes Store).
Your family members can easily each get their own iCloud account to keep email etc. separate - in each case they will need a different non-Apple email address (a free one from Yahoo etc. would do) to set up the ID. If they are sharing a Mac they need to be using a separate user account.
They can have their own iCloud accounts and still all sign into the same iTunes account: or they can open their own iTunes accounts using their new iCloud Apple IDs.
BUT they cannot transfer items purchased under the present iTunes ID to different iTunes IDs.

  • I have three iPads and one iPod and one iPhone.  How can I message between them without sending the message to all of them.  You send the message to your email address but all of them are set up und one account.

I have three iPads and one iPod and one iPhone.  How can I message between them without sending the message to all of them.  You send the message to your email address but all of them are set up under one account.

You can have a different receiving email in the Messages app on each device : Settings > Messages > Receive At . I'm not sure that there is a different way to have the message only go to one device.

  • How do I set up different icloud accounts for each family member and make them able to access them on our common mac using their user name on the mac.  I am doing this to make sure kids don't get access to our messages.

We have several apple products in the family.  I would like to set up different icloud accounts for each memeber.  I lately noticed having activated different devices with same icloud account that each device can access everyones messages by going in their settings and clicking which number or email they want to use to see messages.  Let me make sure I am understood, on my sons ipod in his messages settings he can switch to my cell number and see all my messages.  Re setting the devices isn't my great issue but can i set up each kids user account on my mac to their individual icloud accounts?
    Thanks!

Any devices connected to the same icloud account can sync all the data on that account.  For this reason an icloud account is really for a single user.
On a mac, if each user has their own account, then the itunes for that mac account should be set up to connect to that user's icloud account (System preferences>icloud).

  • My husband and I are using the same computer. He has a ton of songs in iTunes that I don't want...but when I sync my iPod I get all of his songs too. Is there a way of setting up another ITunes account without having to untick all of the ton songs iTunes

My husband has a ton of songs in iTunes that I don't want on my iPod nano. Is there a way to set up a separate account on the same computer in iTunes? Do I have to un-tick all of his songs (would take forever!! And then he would have to tick them again)....when we sync our iPods?

    No. Its not possible.
Alternatively, create another user account in your computer. Install iTunes in that account with the library you wish to sync.

  • How can I get my phone to set up a POP3 account instead of IMAP?

I use a premium Mail.com e-mail account and on my old 3GS, I had it set up as a POP3 account instead of IMAP.  There used to be an option at the top when creating an e-mail account to choose POP or IMAP but this option is no longer present in the 4S.
I follow the same process as on the 3GS - choose 'Other' when adding a mail account and I then enter all the details.  It was this screen on the 3GS that allowed me to choose the type, but not anymore.  I then click 'Next' and the phone automatically configures my account and sets it up as IMAP.  After the account has been set up, there doesn't seem to be a way to change it to a POP3 account, I have also tried that as well.
Having an IMAP account is a real pain because, even though I choose to save Drafts, Sent Messages and Deleted Items on the server, my iPhone still insists on creating new folders for these so I have multiple folders on my iPhone and then I end up with multiple folders on my web server as well, which looks a mess when I log in.  I usually end up deleting these folders.
Does anyone know how I can make my iPhone set up a POP3 account instead of an IMAP?  I cannot see why this should not be possible on a phone that claims to be as advanced as the 4S does...

Hotmail opens in a new window because the code or set of instructions on the MSN website tells Firefox to open Hotmail in a new window. I would suggest you right click on the Hotmail button and left click on "Open Link in New Tab". This will open a new tab in the current window.

  • I was setting up an iCloud account.  I set it up and the wanted to delete it.  When I did that, I inadvertently deleted all my contacts off my iPhone.  I don't think there was any backup.  How do I get my contacts back?

Hi.  I was setting up an iCloud account on my son's iPhone.  We set up the account, but then decided to delete it.  When we did, we accidentally deleted all the contacts from his iPhone.  There was no backup done yet.  I tried backing up his contacts in verizon backup, but that didn't work.  Can anyone help p,was.  He lost hundreds of contacts

If you deleted the account by going to Settings>icloud, scrolled to bottom of page and tapped Delete Account, then all you have to do is go to the same page an sign in using the same ID; be sure Contacts is turned on.
